Gujarat state is one of the fastest developing state in India wherein the state plays a key role in supporting
economies of other state in our country. A state government have found a huge gap in terms of employment.
According to 2010 Forbes list cities like Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodra, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Bhavnagar, Vapi and
Junagadh are the some of the world fastest growing cities where the number of industries are increasing.
Large chunk of youth gets left out because of their incapability to connect with the industry. Therefore the
percentage of employment in professional courses in higher education is lacking behind and the number of
student’s remains unemployed. In order to address un-employability issues, we here at Knowledge
Consortium of Gujarat under UDISHA initiative as a part of Extensions are trying to deliver more apt
skills to make youth them fit for the industry and also to fulfil market demands.
UDISHA had started soft skills training program from 1st January 2015 and targeted youth pursuing their
higher education in Gujarat. We started with the Gujarat University as it is one of the renowned and oldest
university with many institutions affiliated to it.
1- To cater to the needs of student by matching their interest area
2- To strengthen the existing placement committees in educational institutes in Gujarat State

4- To train students by delivering an appropriate skills
5- To build effective network with the industries
6- To institutionalize UDISHA CLUBS among HEI’s across Gujarat

initiative.
UDISHA team also believes in examining the program. We kept the feedback session on the last day of

the students. On the basis of that UDISHA Team tried to maintain the relevance of personality development

  • 3. Gujarat state is one of the fastest developing state in India wherein the state plays a key role in supporting economies of other state in our country. A state government have found a huge gap in terms of employment. According to 2010 Forbes list cities like Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodra, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Bhavnagar, Vapi and Junagadh are the some of the world fastest growing cities where the number of industries are increasing. Large chunk of youth gets left out because of their incapability to connect with the industry. Therefore the percentage of employment in professional courses in higher education is lacking behind and the number of student’s remains unemployed. In order to address un-employability issues, we here at Knowledge Consortium of Gujarat under UDISHA initiative as a part of Extensions are trying to deliver more apt skills to make youth them fit for the industry and also to fulfil market demands. UDISHA had started soft skills training program from 1st January 2015 and targeted youth pursuing their higher education in Gujarat. We started with the Gujarat University as it is one of the renowned and oldest university with many institutions affiliated to it. 1- To cater to the needs of student by matching their interest area 2- To strengthen the existing placement committees in educational institutes in Gujarat State 3- To impart personality development & soft skills training for betterment of students 4- To train students by delivering an appropriate skills 5- To build effective network with the industries 6- To institutionalize UDISHA CLUBS among HEI’s across Gujarat 7- To improve employability status among youth in the state of Gujarat. UDISHA team is expecting 1000 students to get trained in the month of May 2015 by scheduling back to back session starting from 20th May 2015 under UDISHA initiative. UDISHA team also believes in examining the program. We kept the feedback session on the last day of training session to understand the impact of the training as well as for further informed decisions heard from the students. On the basis of that UDISHA Team tried to maintain the relevance of personality development sessions through change in the schedules and curriculum to make it more interactive, inclusive and participatory for students. We have divided soft skill training into three phases: I Phase – It involves developing attitudes and attributes II Phase – It involves fine-tuning communication skills to express attitudes, ideas and thoughts III Phase – Developing Interview and Group Discussions skills by conducting mock round in order to make them familiar with it and also to make them feel comfortable.
