Library QUEST 2014
Your quest is
to learn what a
modern library
is all about.
You have five tasks you must complete
to earn a LIBRARY MAVEN BADGE.
1. Find a book using the UCAT.
2. Track it down in the stacks.
3. Create a bibliographical citation for a works-cited
page for that book. Underneath that
write a short explanation of who wrote it and
why it is a good source.
4. Find a book by browsing through the stacks.
5. Scan a picture of a building, room, or garden
you would choose to write in.
Think of a place you have always wanted to visit. Using the UCAT (University
Catalogue), find a book about the architecture of that place. If you know of an
architect’s name, for example Gaudi and Barcelona, you can search by that too.
Quest Task 1: Using the Snipping Tool on your
menu, take a shot or two of the results. Play
with your document. See what you can do with
basic software.
Task1
Task 2 Find the book in the stacks
Quest Task 2: Take a picture of the book. Use
your phone, a camera, or the giant scanner.
Korres, Manolis, et al. Athens: from the Classical
Period to the present day (5th century B.C. –A.D.
2000), eds. Manolis Korres et al. Trans. Timothy
Cullen. Oak Knoll Pr: New Castle, Delaware.
2003. Print.
Professor Korres is the world’s foremost scholar on
Athenian architecture. He was the lead architect for the
Parthenon restoration and currently teaches at the
International Institute for Restorations in Athens.
Task 3
Quest Task 3: Create a
bibliographical citation and
a short explanation of who
wrote it and why it is a good
source.
Most of us dream of having a perfect
space in which to write, draw, read,
create, and just think. Knowing what you
know about your own tastes, track down
a book that can fire your imagination.
The Architecture stacks are on the
north side of the DT Library. Wander
around and look for a book that has a
photograph, drawing, or plan for a place
where you would like to write.
Task 4
Quest Task 4: Write down the LCS call number.
Task 5 Find an example of an ideal space.
Quest Task 5: Take a picture or scan the page that
shows a room where you would love to write.
TURN IN THE ASSIGNMENT
When you finish all 5 tasks, paste the
results into a word document. Then
attach it here in the assignment box..
