Multi-Organizational Alliances: Maximizing Impact
Thursday | 2:30 PM - 3:45 PM
Topics covered: Collaboration / Partnership
In communities across the country, nonprofits are forming multi-organizational alliances to overcome common challenges, leverage economies of scale and increase their collective impact. Recent research described in the Stanford Social Innovation Review reveals that high functioning alliances share common practices and are guided by a consistent set of principles that generate powerful results. In 2009, Wellspring Consulting helped the Alameda County Alliance for Arts Learning Leadership revise its governance structure so that it could better serve its members’ individual and mutual interests. Today, more than 50 organizations and 90 individuals collaborate through the Alliance to carry out arts integration projects and advocate for public support of arts education. Presenters will share research findings and practical real-world examples you can use to build effective alliances and generate large scale change in your community.

THE SACRIFICE HOW PRO-PALESTINE PROTESTS STUDENTS ARE SACRIFICING TO CHANGE T...indexPub
The recent surge in pro-Palestine student activism has prompted significant responses from universities, ranging from negotiations and divestment commitments to increased transparency about investments in companies supporting the war on Gaza. This activism has led to the cessation of student encampments but also highlighted the substantial sacrifices made by students, including academic disruptions and personal risks. The primary drivers of these protests are poor university administration, lack of transparency, and inadequate communication between officials and students. This study examines the profound emotional, psychological, and professional impacts on students engaged in pro-Palestine protests, focusing on Generation Z's (Gen-Z) activism dynamics. This paper explores the significant sacrifices made by these students and even the professors supporting the pro-Palestine movement, with a focus on recent global movements. Through an in-depth analysis of printed and electronic media, the study examines the impacts of these sacrifices on the academic and personal lives of those involved. The paper highlights examples from various universities, demonstrating student activism's long-term and short-term effects, including disciplinary actions, social backlash, and career implications. The researchers also explore the broader implications of student sacrifices. The findings reveal that these sacrifices are driven by a profound commitment to justice and human rights, and are influenced by the increasing availability of information, peer interactions, and personal convictions. The study also discusses the broader implications of this activism, comparing it to historical precedents and assessing its potential to influence policy and public opinion. The emotional and psychological toll on student activists is significant, but their sense of purpose and community support mitigates some of these challenges. However, the researchers call for acknowledging the broader Impact of these sacrifices on the future global movement of FreePalestine.

6. Keynote Address
A plenary session featuring a keynote address at the Chan Centre for
Performing Arts concludes the one-day program. Each year, students
report that the keynote address is a conference highlight, inspiring them
to consider their potential as global leaders and how they might initiate
a change in the world around them. Dr. Stephen Lewis, Roberta Bondar
and Justin Trudeau are just some of the keynote speakers who have
previously spoken at the SLC.
Leadership Opportunities Fair
The Leadership Opportunities Fair features booths from different orga-
nizations that offer student leadership and involvement opportunities.
Participants include on-campus and community partners who offer both
short-term and long-term involvement and leadership opportunities.
Case Studies
The case studies, which are student-driven, aim to explore tangible
opportunities to address real issues in the local community. Small
groups will discuss community needs and work together to brainstorm
solutions and a course of action.
