UAVs are used for intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition and reconnaissance (ISTAR), electronic warfare (EW), and special operations missions. They include medium-altitude long-endurance (MALE) and tactical UAVs with over 200km range and 24+ hour endurance. Payloads include electro-optical/infrared with laser designation, synthetic aperture radar, and signals intelligence for EW. UAVs integrate with networks like Link 16 for command and control and share data with other assets like fighter jets using standards like STANAG protocols. Training and standardization are needed to develop an unmanned system capability and ensure interoperability between manned and unmanned assets.
