Disadvantages of HVDC system over HVAC system
• Compared to converter stations used in the HVAC systems, converter
stations used in the HVDC are expensive and complicated.
• The design and operation of multi-terminal HVDC systems are
sophisticated compared to HVAC.
• Current and voltage harmonics are generated during conversion,
which requires expensive filters.
• The presence of high-frequency constituents in the DC transmission
causes interference in the communication systems near the HVDC
system.
• The grounding of the HVDC system is complex and complicated

Disadvantages of HVAC system over HVDC system
• Compared to HVDC, HVAC has a very high interference with
communication lines.
• It is impossible to connect two unsynchronized HVAC .
• Compared to the HVDC systems, the HVAC systems are more likely to
experience corona effects during bad weather compared to HVDC.
• Unlike in HVDC, inductive and capacitive parameters are a limiting
factor in the HVAC systems.

Conclusion
From above study it is concluded that the choice of using HVDC or HVAC
is mainly depending on its cost versus benefits ,and its suitable application which
justify its use.
