Employment rate realized as 48%
The number of employed persons rose by 1 million 52 thousand to 28
million 703 thousand persons in the period of June 2017 compared with
the same period of the previous year. The employment rate occurred as
48% with 0.9 percentage point increase.
The number of agricultural employment increased by 180 thousand
persons and the number of non-agricultural employment increased by
872 thousand persons in this period. According to the distribution of
employment by sector; 20.1% was employed in agriculture, 18.8% was
in industry, 7.6% was in construction and 53.6% was in services.
Employment in agriculture decreased by 0.1 percentage point, industry
decreased by 0.5 percentage point while construction increased by 0.1
percentage point and services increased by 0.5 percentage point.
Unemployment rate realized as 10.2%
The number of unemployed persons aged 15 years old and over increased
by 124 thousand to 3 million 251 thousand persons in the period of June
2017 in Turkey compared with the same period of the previous year. The
unemployment rate occurred as 10.2% without any change. In the same
period, non-agricultural unemployment rate occurred as 12.2% without
any change.
WHAT IS YOUTH UNEMPLOYEMENT?
The youth unemployment rate is the number of unemployed 15-24 year-
olds expressed as a percentage of the youth labor force. Unemployed
people are those who report that they are without work, that they are
available for work and that they have taken active steps to find work in the
last four weeks.
Young population constituted 16.3% of Turkey’s population
According to the results of Address Based Population Registration System
(ABPRS), while the total population of Turkey was 79 million 814 thousand
871 at the end of 2016, the young population at the age group of 15-24
was 12 million 989 thousand 42. Young population constituted 16.3% of
total population. While young male population constituted 51.2% of
young population, young female population constituted 48.8% of it.
TURKEY YOUTH UNEMPLOYEMENT RATE
Youth Unemployment Rate in Turkey decreased to 19.30 percent in
October from 20 percent in September of 2017. Youth Unemployment
Rate in Turkey averaged 19.14 percent from 1988 until 2017, reaching an
all time high of 28.60 percent in February of 2009 and a record low of 11
percent in September of 2000.
