Field: Furniture dealership
Scope: Create isometric views for all of
the spaces in the new showroom.
Programs: AutoCAD, SketchUP, V-Ray,
Photoshop
Summary: As WRG had recently moved
locations to their new space, I was given
the task of creating isometric views
for each area for the guide they were
creating. The area depicted is the Plaza/
break space which was my favorite spot
in the new building thus I decided to create
a perspective view in addition to the
isometric view.

Field: Onconlogy
Scope: Redesign a project within
10,000 square feet with one formgiver
(sustainability) and two focuses (sensory &
lighting design).
Programs: AutoCAD, SketchUP, V-Ray
Summary: The case studies researched
incorporated several different aesthetic
qualities as a positive distraction for anyone
in the waiting area. The render illustrates
the given concept of creating an illusion to
decreased wait time and also supports local
art work. Lastly, each student was required to
choose a formgiver, two focuses, and where
they all add up.

Programs: AutoCAD, SketchUP, V-Ray
Summary: The render illustrates the concept
of zoning specific areas in relation to
private vs. social spots. The pod system
shown was designed to be flexible in order
to adjust when needed and create different
configurations. The plan below the image
illustrates an example of the zoning principle
proposed. Social areas would be located on
the outside and became more private in the

Summary: The research also suggested
that elderly visitors and patients may
have a harder time differentiating certain
objects if they are too similar in color or
contrast. Therefore, the areas are zoned
in accordance to contrasting materials on
the floor. Lastly, mechoshade rollers were
specified in order to give patients control of
natural lighting.

Scope: Create a restaurant space that
incorporates the feel of local Dallas
hotspots.
Programs: AutoCAD, SketchUP,
Photoshop
Summary: In order to bring in local area
aspects into the space, specific color and
material arrangements were selected
to give it the distinct profile. Lounge and
bar areas were outfitted in rustic color
schemes accompanied by a stage where
local performers could bring their talents
into the dining and bar spaces.

Programs: AutoCAD, SketchUP, Photoshop
Summary: The booths shown incorporate
copper dividers between seating
arrangements not only to provide a sense of
space, but to enhance the material scheme.
The restaurant is attached at the base of a hotel
Embassy Suite, and swans are a recurring part
of their standard. Therefore, one of our inspiration
images consists of two swans and gave life to our
copper light fixtures and booth dividers.

Programs: AutoCAD, SketchUP,

Summary: In brainstorming ideas. our
group decided that one of the most
effective and efficient ways to show the
Dallas culture was having a panoramic
accent wall of the city itself. Not only does
it bring in a quality aesthetic to the interior
space, but it portrays the aesthetic variety
in the Dallas architecture that also illustrates
the unique culture in itself.

Field: Hospitality
Scope: Create a restaurant space that
incorporates the feel of local Dallas

Programs: AutoCAD, SketchUP, Photoshop
Summary: The lounge area provided an
area of refuge for customers that also served
as a way to socially interact with others. In
addition, a side room was implemented for
business related transactions. Again, scenery
from local photography is implemented to
provide a sense of Dallas culture.
16. IDEC Student Competition - Immersive Healthcare Room

Field: Healthcare
Scope: Students were paired up
and given two weeks to complete
a futuristic (yet feasible) healthcare
environment.
Programs: AutoCAD, SketchUP
Summary: In the brainstorming process,
the first thing that came to our minds were
touch screens. They are everywhere;
to high end facilities to our pockets.
Furthermore, touch screens are easily
cleaned. With this trend in technology,
we decided to bring that element into our
futuristic room. The view shown illustrates
what could be an interface showing patient
vitals to a nurse or doctor.

Scenic Wall
Field: Healthcare
Scope: Students were paired up and given
two weeks to complete a futuristic (yet
feasible) healthcare environment.
Programs: AutoCAD, SketchUP
Summary: Another attribute to the room we
considered was the patient experience. The
patient has a viewport to nature through the
window as studies have shown that patients
require less pain medications when associated
with positive imagery. However, if this
viewport isn’t accessible for any given reason,
the curved smart wall in front of them gives an
option for viewing nature artificially. In addition,
this would give patients the ability to video chat
their loved ones or even surfing the web thus
giving patients more control.

Scope: To create a corporate space
that emphasized primary means of

into the break room.
Programs: AutoCAD, SketchUP, Visualizer
Summary: The space was designed in
order to have an efficient circulation
space that allows for the safe exit of
occupants. In addition, the color scheme
and signage inspired by the company
culture are integrated into the wayfinding of
circulation.

Scope: To create a corporate space that
emphasized primary means of egress and
implement A.D.A. standards into the break
room.
Programs: AutoCAD, SketchUP, Visualizer
Summary: The breakroom compensates for
wheel chair height toe kicks and seating.
The window allows for a viewport to a pond.
Lastly, the name “Cake Room” was also a
inspired from the game Portal which is an
underlying humurous theme throughout the
title.

Programs: AutoCAD, SketchUP
Summary: The objective in the game
Portal is to simply work your way through
the level solving puzzles with a futuristic
gun. The user shoots an entrance portal on
one surface and an exit portal on another
surface allowing one to move through as
if it’s a door. In the top right the user is
guided by signage inspired by this concept.

Perspective
Field: Furniture dealership
Scope: Analyze the what type of
adjacencies would be best suited for an
open office environment while incorporating
company culture.
Programs: AutoCAD, SketchUP, V-Ray
Summary: As WRG has many visitors,
it was important to maintain a positive
work environment for the employees while
also factoring noise considerations into
an open plan. As the furniture industry is
shifting towards open and collaborative
atmospheres, spaces often tend to lose
privacy and even create too much noise.
Therefore, certain departments were zoned
in relation to frequency of higher and lower
noise levels, along with main points of visitation
and architectural features. The render to the
left shows an example of a space that becomes
more cut off with an acoustical wall, yet still keeps
an open ambience.

Programs: AutoCAD, InDesign
Summary: The plan to the right illustrates
a simple diagram of loud areas zoned
away from quieter areas, with a middle
ground as they get closer together. In
addition, the furniture selections are also
placed depending on acoustical privacy.

Scope: To illustrate proper hand

Summary: Each student was given
freedom of choosing their type of
commercial space that had to be

commercial space chosen was an asian

outdoor patio with a music venue. The
space is inspired by a popular spot in
