Detail Design, Fabrication and Supply: HUB
Scope: Central Park is described by Frasers, the
developer, as “the missing piece of the puzzle that
completes Sydney’s colourful inner-city landscape”.
HUB Street Equipment was invited by Frasers
to contribute to this vision. Taking Ateliers Jean
Nouvel concept for a floating blade seat to echo
the thrill of the Sky Garden, cantilevered 20 stories
overhead. HUB refined the concept, detailed
designed, prototyped and fabricated the unique
stainless steel seat. Located in the central sunken
courtyard, the seats offer refuge and a place for
people to meet in a space that connects high end
retail and food outlets to the surrounding park
and open spaces. The seat design and material
choice also reflect the surrounding contemporary
architectural forms and materiality.

Catalogue
HUB offers 6 suites of furniture as ready solutions or
as starting points for semi bespoke solutions. Each
suite offers a unique expression of HUB’s signature
modern design aesthetic and incorporates
resolved detailing with quality materials and
finishes. The suites cover a range of price points to
suit different project budgets. Badging and colour
options for all suites allow for the customisation
of pieces to suit individual contexts. The S5 suite
employs a systems approach, utilising a kit-of-
parts, while the S6 suite employs modularity, both
resulting in significant flexibility.
Custom Design
HUB acknowledges that a unique suite of street
furniture can be sensitive to the local influences
while making a particular precinct unique and
recognisable. HUB can provide custom design
solutions for your project or, alternatively, HUB
can take your concepts and turn them into
reality. Further HUB can customize or expand
its existing Surface suites to ensure maximum
functional compatibility with your project.
Detail Design
HUB can adopt your design concept and
resolve “the nuts and bolts” details to realise
your sketch and deliver your vision – easy.
Feasibility
With our years of experience, HUB can quickly
provide valuable feedback on design, material,
manufacturing, cost and time frames in order
for you to make decisions on how to progress
your public domain project.
STREET FURNITURE
Supply
HUB is not limited by particular materials and
processes. Rather, HUB embraces the potential
of different production methods and continues
to explore new possibilities that will provide the
best solution for your project. HUBs extensive
network of suppliers provides the potential you
seek.
Install
HUB is capable of coordinating the installation
of the street equipment that we supply. Whether
it be 3 bollards or 250 HUB MFP’s, we have
the capacity to manage all activities relating to
supply and install.
Maintenance
HUB believes that it is critical to maintain public
domain equipment. The way street furniture is
maintained is a direct reflection of a public
authority’s priorities in relation to public amenity.
A regular maintenance regime maximises the
longevity of any product and therefore it’s cost
effectiveness.

The HUB.20/20Bin offers public authorities the
safest current option for garbage collection for
use within busy public spaces. The 20/20Bin has
been designed in collaboration with the University
of Technology, Sydney, RailCorp and the NSW
Police Force. The design includes a range of
special security features, some of which we can
tell you about, and some we can’t…
OVERVIEW
Within an environment characterised by a heightened
awareness on security conditions, the design of
trash receptacles used in the public domain must
respond to a brief defined by a broad scope of
stakeholder expectation. The HUB.20/20Bin has
successfully achieved compliance to this brief with a
focus on offering a solution that provides a high level
of visual access to ensure suspicious objects can
be detected without obstruction. The deceptively
robust design is elegant and simple and is made
from stainless steel, clear polycarbonate and cast
aluminium. The HUB.20/20Bin can be configured in
multiples to provide recycling options as required.

The HUB ITGS is a patented system that ensures
the establishment of a new tree and reduces the
damage to the ground plane caused by a rising root
ball.
The core feature is the creation of an air pocket below
the paving that allows significant air and moisture to
permeate. Further, the cavity allows the root ball to
grow without affecting the surface paving.
The ITGS can be used as a bio filter for road run-off,
reducing the pollution released as stormwater. An
irrigation manifold integrated into the pit allows for
additional watering as required.
The structural grate has been developed to allow
the trees to be set down below pavement level,
with a pocket of air between the soil surface and
the suspended pavement. This air gap maintains a
healthy soil high in oxygen and prevents the
soil from being compacted by foot and vehicle
traffic. It also provides a space for the tree’s trunk
to broaden as it grows without damaging the
pavement.
The surface of the ITGS can be treated with
a number of options including; tree grilles in
stock and custom designs, paving, and soft fall.
Uplights can be integrated into the surface of the
ITGS. Tree guards fixed to the structural grate
protect trees during establishment.

SmartPole
HISTORY
The SmartPole™ was conceived by the City of
Sydney in 1997 as part of the ambitious streetscape
upgrade program that was planned in preparation
fortheSydneyOlympics,2000.Thesimple intent was
to develop a pole system that would allow multiple
pole mounted accessories to be accommodated
on a single pole, thus reducing the clutter from
the public domain that typically accumulates in
any busy and growing city. The SmartPole™ is
the original Multi Functional Pole system and has
won an Australian Design Award in recognition
of its originality and novelty of this new product
category.
Since its inception, the SmartPole™ continues to
be successfully rolled out throughout the City of
Sydney and many other councils around Australia
and internationally. It continues to meet the evolving
needs demanded of a truly multi functional pole
system in contemporary urban environments.
HUB Street Equipment is currently the exclusive
provider of this successful, patented and proven
system, the SmartPole™.
OVERVIEW
The SmartPole™ launched a completely new product
category designed specifically for the public
domain. The SmartPole™ reduces streetscape
clutter by accommodating a range of pole mounted
accessories onto a single pole system. The
SmartPole™ achieves this multi-functionality
through a patented track detail integrally formed
into the pole. This track provides the fixing detail
into which a full range of accessories can be con-
nected. This range of accessories includes, but is
not limited to, street lighting, banners, pedestrian
lighting, CCTV, telecommunications technology,
feature lighting, traffic signals, VMS, signage,
pedestrian signals, etc.
SYSTEM
The SmartPole™ by HUB is a track based system
that relies on a unique aluminium extrusion to achieve
its functionality. Accessories fix to the pole by utilizing
this track which provides a discrete connection
detail. The SmartPole™ by HUB is available in two
sizes and is finished at ground level with a cladding
solution that provides additional benefit.
ACCESSORIES
The SmartPole™ by HUB is a truly multi functional
pole system that is designed to accommodate
a full range of pole mounted accessories that
are typically deployed within the public domain.
These accessories can be categorized under
one of the following headings: Lighting, Traffic,
and Signage & Telecommunications.
Lighting
The SmartPole™ by HUB can accommodate the
full range of lighting types that may be required
within the public domain. This includes street
lighting, pedestrian lighting, feature lighting,
safety lighting and spot lights.
Traffic
The SmartPole™ by HUB has achieved full
RMS compliance so can accommodate the
full suite of RMS accessories including traffic
and pedestrian signals, signage, cameras and
traffic signal outreaches to 10m.

TheSmartPole™byHUBcanalsoaccommodate
a broad range of signage types. This includes
street names, traffic control, RMS signage,
parking control, pedestrian signage, directional
signage in addition to real-time-display, banners
and electronic signage.
Telecommunications
A broad range of telecommunications tech-
nologies can also be accommodated on the
SmartPole™ by HUB. CCTV, traffic cameras,
micro-cells and real-time-display panels are
some of the more common accessories that fall
within this category.

Shelter
Systems
Shelters and canopy systems for the public domain
present many challenges.
Minimising the structure, providing beautiful details,
offeringeffectiveshelter,andminimisingunnecessary
maintenance are high priorities.
The HUB.Shelter system is designed to be used
within transport interchange locations where large
numbers of commuters move between intersecting
modes of public transport. The HUB.Shelter system
is a sophisticated, large scale, engineered structure
featuring drainage details, cabling solutions, signage
panels, steel, glass, fixings, polycarbonate, castings,
sealants, lighting.......our challenge revolves around
making sure you don’t notice all that stuff.

HUB.SHELTER
...a beautifully simple and elegant design solution
that is cost effective and infinitely adaptable.
The HUB.Stop is an elegantly simple shelter system
that can be arranged and finished in a wide variety of
configurations. The HUB.Stop utilises contemporary
manufacturing techniques and materials and can
incorporate lighting, VMS, solar panels, seating,
signage and a wide variety of roofing panels and is
simple to install and maintain.
HUB.Stops are very sophisticated, small scale,
engineered aluminium structures featuring built in
drainage and cabling solutions. Using custom
extrusions as the back bone of the manufacturing
process, the shelter is a cost effective solution
whilst providing maximum modularity, ease of
assembly and a greatly reduced parts count. The
shelter has been designed with humans in mind;
be it the users, clients or maintenance personnel.
Maintenance is minimal and easy.
Our challenge revolves around making sure
you don’t notice all the technicalities... But enjoy
the unique LED lighting features, clean functional
lines and ample space for advertising and signage
panels.
With a range of outreach lengths the HUB.Stop can
satisfy a broad range of requirements.
With choices available for anodising or powder-
coating, as well as options for custom trim inserts,
the system offers a huge potential for customisation
of finishes and colour options. The custom trim
inserts can include a different colour/texture or
even timber finish fittings.
For use in locations such as bus stops and taxi
stands, the HUB.Stop will meet all your functional
requirements while ensuring your project features

to provide a bold visionary statement and withstand
the rigours of the public environment.
OVERVIEW
HUB embraces the concept of going where no
others have been.
Typically Public Art will stretch the boundaries of
materials and their application in the public domain.
HUB, through design and research, can ensure
that the artistic vision is retained while delivering a
robust public solution.
MULTI FUNCTION CANOPY POLE (MFCP)
The Childers Street project is the cultural heart of
Canberra.
Working in collaboration with the Landscape
Architect AECOM (EDAW) and Public Art specialists
(Thylacine), HUB modified the HUB.Pole multi-
functional pole system to realise the strongest and
most colourful visual element on site.
Significant technical and engineering issues were
overcome in order to deliver this demanding yet
inspirational and unique project.

PANEL SYSTEM
The Brickpit Ring was a design & construct contract.
The contractor, CA&I, engaged HUB to design
and supply the modular aluminium panel system
that formed both the inner and outer walls of the
structure.
HUB worked closely with the architect, Durbach
Block and the team at SOPA to resolve this simple,
elegant and visually consistent solution.
Some would say that panel system is the most
beautiful part of the entire structure……!
SOURCE ARTWORK
Integral to the overall CBD Upgrade of Auckland
City is a vibrant and enriching public art program.
A central part of that program is the Civic Artwork
– “Source”.
The intent of Source is to reflect the primordial
landscape of Queen Street, Auckland when it was
the Horotiu stream.
HUB has worked closely with the artist Elizabeth
McClure, the architect Henry Crothers (Architectus)
and the team from Auckland City to design, evolve,
sample, prototype, test and produce Source.
AN EVENTFUL PATH
Situated outside the train terminal at Sydney Olympic
Park, An Eventful Path is an in-ground, illuminated
glass walkway designed by Aspect and supplied
and installed by the team at HUB. It commemorates
the significant sporting events that have occurred at
Sydney Olympic Park.

  • 29. The HUB ITGS is a patented system that ensures the establishment of a new tree and reduces the damage to the ground plane caused by a rising root ball. The core feature is the creation of an air pocket below the paving that allows significant air and moisture to permeate. Further, the cavity allows the root ball to grow without affecting the surface paving. The ITGS can be used as a bio filter for road run-off, reducing the pollution released as stormwater. An irrigation manifold integrated into the pit allows for additional watering as required. The structural grate has been developed to allow the trees to be set down below pavement level, with a pocket of air between the soil surface and the suspended pavement. This air gap maintains a healthy soil high in oxygen and prevents the soil from being compacted by foot and vehicle traffic. It also provides a space for the tree’s trunk to broaden as it grows without damaging the pavement. The surface of the ITGS can be treated with a number of options including; tree grilles in stock and custom designs, paving, and soft fall. Uplights can be integrated into the surface of the ITGS. The SmartPole™ is the original Multi Functional Pole system and has won an Australian Design Award in recognition of its originality and novelty of this new product category. Since its inception, the SmartPole™ continues to be successfully rolled out throughout the City of Sydney and many other councils around Australia and internationally. It continues to meet the evolving needs demanded of a truly multi functional pole system in contemporary urban environments. HUB Street Equipment is currently the exclusive provider of this successful, patented and proven system, the SmartPole™. OVERVIEW The SmartPole™ launched a completely new product category designed specifically for the public domain. The SmartPole™ reduces streetscape clutter by accommodating a range of pole mounted accessories onto a single pole system. The SmartPole™ achieves this multi-functionality through a patented track detail integrally formed into the pole. This track provides the fixing detail into which a full range of accessories can be con- nected. This range of accessories includes, but is not limited to, street lighting, banners, pedestrian lighting, CCTV, telecommunications technology, feature lighting, traffic signals, VMS, signage, pedestrian signals, etc. SYSTEM The SmartPole™ by HUB is a track based system that relies on a unique aluminium extrusion to achieve its functionality. Accessories fix to the pole by utilizing this track which provides a discrete connection detail. The SmartPole™ by HUB is available in two sizes and is finished at ground level with a cladding solution that provides additional benefit. ACCESSORIES The SmartPole™ by HUB is a truly multi functional pole system that is designed to accommodate a full range of pole mounted accessories that are typically deployed within the public domain. These accessories can be categorized under one of the following headings: Lighting, Traffic, and Signage & Telecommunications. Lighting The SmartPole™ by HUB can accommodate the full range of lighting types that may be required within the public domain. This includes street lighting, pedestrian lighting, feature lighting, safety lighting and spot lights. Traffic The SmartPole™ by HUB has achieved full RMS compliance so can accommodate the full suite of RMS accessories including traffic and pedestrian signals, signage, cameras and traffic signal outreaches to 10m.
