Troop Leading Procedures


   1. Receive the Mission
      - METT-TC
          a. Mission- commanders intent, and purpose
          b. Enemy- what do you know about them, uniform, people, etc
          c. Terrain- will the terrain affect the mission, will it give you any advantages
                  OCOKA
          d. Troops- what do you have, number of soldiers
          e. Time- use your time wisely
          f. Civilians- consider the population, will they interfere or not
   2. Issue Warno
      - What do the troops need to start doing to prepare for the mission, use chain of
          command
      - Update that information as needed
      - Will receive the OPORD but you don’t need to give out all this information with the
          warno wait till the complete OPORD is given
      - Include at the minimum the 5 Ws.
   3. Make a tentative Plan
      - Use & problem solving steps
          a. Identify Problem
          b. Gather information
          c. Develop criteria
          d. Generate possible solutions
          e. Analyze probable solutions
          f. Compare probable solutions
          g. Make and implement the best solution(This is your tentative plan)
   4. Start movement
      - not necessary but troops can move closer to LD, or even begin to get into defensive
          positions
      - play into next role, you can send out leaders recon or sending recon party is also part
          of movement
   5. Recon
      - Use the map only to find routs, and terrain analysis, OCOKA
      - Or if time permits send out a RECON team
   6. Complete the plan
      - Make any final changes to the plan that may have developed through FRAGO’s or the
          recons
   7. Issue complete OPORD
      - Give the order to everyone, and then even get back briefs from soldiers to make sure
          everyone is on the same page
      - Ask for questions at the end to make sure everyone is ready to go and not confused
      - Give this when in sight of the objective or on the terrain you intend to defend, if not
          use terrain model kit to give a visual aid
8. Supervise
      - Give rehearsals and inspections
      - PCC and PCI
      - Special teams, etc.


One-Third Two-Thirds Rule
      - Use 1/3 of time to plan and issue your opord
      - Remaining 2/3 time will be used to prepare; practice, etc.
