OPEN DAYS, EXTERNAL VISITS AND
AESTHETICA FILM FESTIVAL
18TH APRIL 2018-
CARDIFF UNIVERSITY
• On the April 18th I travelled to Cardiff to look at a
potential university. The university campus was very
pretty and I could have seen myself living there. At
first, I went to the welcome talk which spoke a lot
about Cardiff itself and why you should pick Cardiff
to study. I then went on to go to the journalism talk
but the course was very theoretical and it didn’t have
the type of equipment that I was expecting. I thought
that there would be Apple Mac equipment but it all
seemed very old and not up to date. I want a
university that I can use the equipment with no
problem, but the computers they had there looked
old and slow. The other thing which put me off at
looking more into Cardiff University was the distance,
I think it was just over four hours for me to get there
and it just didn’t seem worth it when there are better
universities nearer. Also, when I was there, they stated
that you needed a grade 6 in English Language which
OPEN DAY AT UNIVERSITY
OF SHEFFIELD
After going to Cardiff University I wanted
to go look at a university closer to me.
This was my second option as I really liked
the course and the tutors. The Sheffield
campus was quite confusing to get to so
that put me off to start off with, but once
we got to the university I really enjoyed it.
The university was quite far away from the
centre of Sheffield but where the
accommodation was based it looked like it
was in the middle of nowhere. I really liked
the accommodation as it was very cosy
and reminded me of home. I went to look
at the Journalism talk and was very keen
to apply.
OPEN DAY AT
SALFORD UNIVERSITY
When I first went to Salford I had my eyes
set on going to Sheffield but I had already
booked to go and I had never been to
Manchester. I was very glad that I went on
this open day as this is the university that I
will go to this coming year. Salford
University has some buildings on Media
City where the middle of Journalism is. All
the lecturers have experience in the media,
some who are still working in the industry.
There equipment are up to top quality and
are a upcoming university.
AESTHETICA
FILM FESTIVAL
In my first year at college, we went to
see the Aesthetica Short Film Festival.
This was a festival that came to York
which showed thousands of short films
in different locations. When we went to
see this, I was studying video and film
so it helped when I was creating my
video. It made me think more about the
concept of my film and whether people
would go to watch it like they did with
these short films. I remember seeing
one short film about this woman being
a first time mum and how everyone was
loving it and her baby wouldn’t stop
crying. This really hit me as it was such
a real story and so emotional. This is
what made me think more into what I
am making and the emotion which it
would share with the audience.
