The Treaty of Versailles was signed on June 28, 1919 in Versailles, France by the Allied powers including the U.S., Britain, France, and Italy, and Germany to end World War I. It required Germany to accept responsibility for starting the war, pay heavy reparations, reduce its military, and surrender territories and colonies.
