In the era of the fourth industrial revolution, measuring and ensuring the reliability, efficiency and safety of the industrial systems and components are one of the uppermost key concern. In addition, predicting performance degradation or remaining useful life (RUL) of an equipment over time based on its historical sensor data enables companies to greatly reduce their maintenance cost. In this way, companies can prevent costly unexpected breakdown and become more profitable and competitive in the marketplace. This paper introduces a deep learning-based method by combining CNN(Convolutional Neural Networks) and LSTM (Long Short-Term Memory)neural networks to predict RUL for industrial equipment. The proposed method does not depend upon any degradation trend assumptions and it can learn complex temporal representative and distinguishing patterns in the sensor data. In order to evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of the proposed method, we evaluated it on two different experiment: RUL estimation and predicting the status of the IoT devices in 2-week period. Experiments are conducted on a publicly available NASA’s turbo fan-engine dataset. Based on the experiment results, the deep learning-based approach achieved high prediction accuracy. Moreover, the results show that the method outperforms standard well-accepted machine learning algorithms and accomplishes competitive performance when compared to the state-of-the art methods

Self-adaptation Approaches for Energy Efficiency
The increasing energy demands of software systems have set an
essential software quality requirement: energy efficiency. At the
same time, the many contextual changes faced by software systems
during execution can hamper their functionality and overall
quality. To address both problems, self-adaptation approaches can
empower software systems, at both design-time and runtime, to
adapt to dynamic conditions. In this way, software systems can
be more resilient to failure, hence more trustful to satisfy the demands
of modern digital society. In this paper, we perform a systematic
literature review to study the state-of-the-art on existing
self-adaptation approaches for energy efficiency. We analyze the
identified approaches from three different perspectives, namely
publication trends, application domains, and types of software systems.
Our findings can help solution providers to make guided
decisions to enable self-adaptability in designing and engineering
software systems.

Data center hosting is in higher demand to fulfill the computing and storage requirements of information technology (IT) and cloud services platforms which need more electricity to power on the IT devices and for data center cooling requirements. Because of the increased demand for data center facilities, optimizing power usage and ensuring that data center energy quality is not compromised has become a difficult task. As a result, various machine learning-based optimization approaches for enhancing overall power effectiveness have been outlined. This paper aims to identify and analyze the key ongoing research made between 2015 and 2021 to evaluate the types of approaches being used by researchers in data center energy consumption optimization using Machine Learning algorithms. It is discussed how machine learning can be used to optimize data center power. A potential future scope is proposed based on the findings of this review by combining a mixture of bioinspired optimization and neural network.
Using human-centred design to improve energy efficiency programs
Human-centred design is being used to make the NSW energy savings scheme more effective. We started with research that identified six key insights for improved scheme operation. It found that the scheme is complex and its fragmented tools and systems create unnecessary barriers to entry. We then used workshops to develop six corresponding opportunities for improved service delivery. To scale up we need streamlined manual processes, more collaboration and improved digital systems. This is especially relevant given recent announcements that the scheme is being extended to 2050.
This talk will present the research, and will place it in the context of changes announced as part of the NSW Energy Strategy. It will explore small, medium and long term changes to scheme delivery identified through the HCD process and our proposed next steps.
The NSW Energy Savings Scheme started in 2009. It has so far delivered projects that will save 27,000 gigawatt hours of energy and $5.6 billion in bill savings over their lifetimes.

Self-adaptation Approaches for Energy Efficiency
The increasing energy demands of software systems have set an
essential software quality requirement: energy efficiency. At the
same time, the many contextual changes faced by software systems
during execution can hamper their functionality and overall
quality. To address both problems, self-adaptation approaches can
empower software systems, at both design-time and runtime, to
adapt to dynamic conditions. In this way, software systems can
be more resilient to failure, hence more trustful to satisfy the demands
of modern digital society. In this paper, we perform a systematic
literature review to study the state-of-the-art on existing
self-adaptation approaches for energy efficiency. We analyze the
identified approaches from three different perspectives, namely
publication trends, application domains, and types of software systems.
Our findings can help solution providers to make guided
decisions to enable self-adaptability in designing and engineering
software systems.
Data-driven methodologies for ENERGY EFFICIENCY.pdf
The PhD thesis proposes several data-driven methodologies for evaluating and improving energy efficiency in buildings:
1. A novel daily measurement and verification approach is presented, based on extracting frequent consumption patterns and a technique to evaluate weather dependence. It accurately estimates energy savings at a daily scale.
2. A Bayesian linear regression methodology is developed to calculate hourly baseline predictions for non-residential buildings and characterize consumption patterns. It provides accurate baselines with explainable uncertainty estimates.
3. A concept methodology is outlined to recommend and prioritize energy efficiency projects. It compares similar buildings and maps savings from retrofits to building characteristics.

In this survey paper, we provide a comprehensive review of the existing literature on techniques and protocols for data aggregation to reduce communication cost and increase network lifetime in wireless sensor networks.

Data center hosting is in higher demand to fulfill the computing and storage requirements of information technology (IT) and cloud services platforms which need more electricity to power on the IT devices and for data center cooling requirements. Because of the increased demand for data center facilities, optimizing power usage and ensuring that data center energy quality is not compromised has become a difficult task. As a result, various machine learning-based optimization approaches for enhancing overall power effectiveness have been outlined. This paper aims to identify and analyze the key ongoing research made between 2015 and 2021 to evaluate the types of approaches being used by researchers in data center energy consumption optimization using Machine Learning algorithms. It is discussed how machine learning can be used to optimize data center power. A potential future scope is proposed based on the findings of this review by combining a mixture of bioinspired optimization and neural network.
Using human-centred design to improve energy efficiency programs
Human-centred design is being used to make the NSW energy savings scheme more effective. We started with research that identified six key insights for improved scheme operation. It found that the scheme is complex and its fragmented tools and systems create unnecessary barriers to entry. We then used workshops to develop six corresponding opportunities for improved service delivery. To scale up we need streamlined manual processes, more collaboration and improved digital systems. This is especially relevant given recent announcements that the scheme is being extended to 2050.
This talk will present the research, and will place it in the context of changes announced as part of the NSW Energy Strategy. It will explore small, medium and long term changes to scheme delivery identified through the HCD process and our proposed next steps.
The NSW Energy Savings Scheme started in 2009. It has so far delivered projects that will save 27,000 gigawatt hours of energy and $5.6 billion in bill savings over their lifetimes.

This study examines the profound emotional, psychological, and professional impacts on students engaged in pro-Palestine protests, focusing on Generation Z's (Gen-Z) activism dynamics. This paper explores the significant sacrifices made by these students and even the professors supporting the pro-Palestine movement, with a focus on recent global movements. Through an in-depth analysis of printed and electronic media, the study examines the impacts of these sacrifices on the academic and personal lives of those involved. The paper highlights examples from various universities, demonstrating student activism's long-term and short-term effects, including disciplinary actions, social backlash, and career implications. The researchers also explore the broader implications of student sacrifices. The findings reveal that these sacrifices are driven by a profound commitment to justice and human rights, and are influenced by the increasing availability of information, peer interactions, and personal convictions. The study also discusses the broader implications of this activism, comparing it to historical precedents and assessing its potential to influence policy and public opinion. The emotional and psychological toll on student activists is significant, but their sense of purpose and community support mitigates some of these challenges. However, the researchers call for acknowledging the broader Impact of these sacrifices on the future global movement of FreePalestine.
