- Today’s presentation is for organisations who are already familiar with Moodle and have asked the question, “What are the key differences between the Moodlerooms platform compared to core Moodle?”. This deck does not cover who Moodlerooms are, our partner status nor does it refer to cloud hosting. It is a “versus” deck that highlights solutions to challenges that Moodlers face on a daily basis.
- Organisations across the world tell us that Moodle is ugly, uninspiring and clunky. Students tell us that Moodle doesn’t look nor feel relevant to modern websites our students use today. It’s dated, unnecessarily complicated, cluttered and boring.
- But Moodlerooms is different. We have built a platforms that both tutors and students actually want to use. Moodlerooms doesn’t look like Moodle and it doesn’t feel like Moodle.
- It behaves like a modern website should. And students instantly engage with it. Moodlerooms isn’t just a pretty theme, it’s a complete new user experience. Built from the ground up for students, tutors and organisations and addresses many of the challenges that Moodle users still face today.
- Students tell us they want a better Mobile experience. But it’s not just about phones and tablets. It’s about supporting all devices. Including games consoles, smart TV’s and the new plethora of wearable gadgets that are around the corner.
- We believe that the mobile experience should not be an after thought. And that making Moodle for mobile isn’t just about resizing content. It’s about creating a mobile friendly experience that is as intuitive and simple as it’s desktop counterpart. At Moodlerooms, we respond to the needs of our users. Moodlerooms has all the same features on your phone that is has on your desktop.
- Students and tutors tell us they need better ways to see courses, assignments, deadlines and feedback.
- So we built a dashboard. Something to finally replace the dull Moodle front-page or the under-developed MyMoodle page. Courses Providing quick access to courses and displaying them in a striking way is a step towards building a richer Moodle experience with deeper learner engagement. But it’s more than just visual links to courses, Moodlerooms provides course data, student progress and even course grades within the course thumbnails so students can see their journey from this innovative dashboard. Deadlines Students tell us that assignment deadlines are crucial and Moodle doesn’t display nor alert students particularly well about upcoming deadlines and due dates. So we added them to our dashboard. Feedback We believe that timely and easy to find assignment feedback is a right for all of our learners. So why does Moodle insist on hiding it deep down in the recesses of a course? We have included assignment feedback right from the dashboard so our learners can instantly see when feedback has become available to them. Messages Communication is a key component to ensuring retention. Being able to communicate with learners through Moodle is one thing, making that communication easy to use, read and reply is another. Communication needs to be simple if it’s to be embraced. So it’s become part of our dashboard.
- Take a look at what we have done within courses for assignment activities. Students complain that assignments buried deep within courses are easy to miss and that due dates are hard to find. Moodlerooms have made assignments a focus on all courses. By placing emphasis on due dates and the submission status direct within the content of the assignment on the course page. We have made assignments simple so that students are able to see them and that students don’t miss important deadlines. Our students love this.
- But why should students have all the fun? We’ve made some great changes for tutors too. From a tutor perspective, they can also see the assignment prominently displayed on the course page, complete with due dates and the submission count of all their learners. This reduces the number of clicks a tutor has to make to check on the progress of an assignment. The result? Happier tutors who feel in control of their course.
