   In Georgia there were many disputes between the
    Indians and Georgian

   The Indians had been living on land for thousands
    of years

   Manifest Destiny

   Andrew Jacksons “Indian Removal Act”

   Cherokee resistance (Worchester vs. Georgia
    1832) Supreme court found it constitutional after.
Trail of tears

   In 1838 thousands of Indians were forced off land.

   Including Cherokee, Choctaw, Chickasaw, and
    Creek.

   President ignoring Worchester vs. Georgia and
    pushes Indian removal.

   Suffered cold, illness, and starvation

   Afterward they revived national intuitions in Indian
    territory and continued as an independent nation.
How did the American government
 get the Cherokee nation to move
 from their homeland
 They  herded 16000 Cherokees into holding camps to
  wait for removal.
 Indians who tried to flee were shot.
 Those who waited in the camps suffered from
  malnutrition.

    The  American government moved all the
     tribes to the west and when they did they
     called it the trail of tears and many tribes
     died.
    The American goal was to open up the
     lands east of the Mississippi river for the
     white settlers.
    The American's created many oppressive
     anti-Indian land.
