Explain the subject of the report:
Every day, a heavy traffic starts when the students travel from the north side of the campus to the south side of the campus by crossing University Boulevard. The traffic mostly happens between the ten-minute break when students move to other classes. At that specific time, heavy traffic begins, and cars can’t move due to the enormous number of pedestrians crossing the road, which causes traffic delays. The traffic affects everyone who is on the road, either students or cars, because they will be late for destinations they are trying to reach.
What makes the traffic worse is that some students cross the road without checking cars while they are riding their skateboards or bicycles. It is dangerous to cross the road without paying attention because pedestrians might get hit by a car. Even though cars must stop when pedestrians walk across the road on the zebra crossing lines, students should yield before they pass the road. This scenario tends to happen often on campus especially during the ten-minute break; students who ride skateboards and bicycles do not care about the drivers and can cause an accident and can end up with a permanent injury.

The purpose of the report is to gather all the information and data that was found in this project.
Provide background:
Every day, a traffic starts on University Boulevard, and it causes traffic delays. It starts on the ten-minute break when students transfer to other classes by crossing the road. What makes this traffic worse is that some pedestrians cross the road without looking for approaching cars. Several people that took the survey said that they saw people got hit by a car because they were not paying attention, so this problem must be taken seriously. The team thought of some solutions to end this problem. However, the group had a lack of knowledge of the school's budget, which is a big problem. Without knowing the school’s budget for this project, it is hard to think of a solution because it might be too expensive for Florida Tech to afford it. For that reason, a research must be done on the school's budget, and what ideas they would support most.
Describe sources of information:
There were several types of sources of information for the research, and they were: personal experiences, expert opinions, and web pages. In the very beginning of the research, Mashal made an appointment with Susan Meeler, the academic advisor of the Civil Engineering department, to discuss with her about the problem and if she has any solutions for the issue. Meleer provided Mashal with a good amount of information and sources that he refers to with the research, and she gave him some suggestions and recommendations for the solutions. Meleer was a good source of information as she had a good exper.

Everyday someone loses a love one from a distracted driver, me myself has been one of those people. So I know the pain that that person, my friend was posting a selfie on Facebook through their phone when they crashed and was killed. This is a growing danger amongst drivers in the US. According to the CDC’s website on districted drivers it reports that 1,161 people are either injured or killed in crashes. This should be an issues and a notational concern that law makers should take serious and make some chances to standardize the laws in every state. Is that selfie, text, or like really worth yours or even someone else’s life?
The First step is Awareness, the CDC reports that, “Each day in the United States, over 8 people are killed and 1,161 injured in crashes that are reported to involve a distracted driver” (2016, CDC.org) This number is to high especially for an everyday activity and I think that people should using their cell phone as a distraction while driving a life or death safely concern. With the growing number of technology usage, using an electronic devices, especially a cell phone, while driving is also growing. This is making the dangers on the road are also growing with this trend. Making the people aware of this everyday danger is extremely important.
Experienced drivers should lead by example to the teen and young drivers. That would be a great second step, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s “U Drive. U Text. U Pay. Campaign”, is very vocal about teens and young distracted drivers on the road. “10 percent of all drivers 15 to 19 years old involved in fatal crashes were reported as distracted at the time of the crashes. This age group has the largest proportion of drivers who were distracted at the time of the crash.” (2016, transportation.org) Knowing this should cause an outcry of everyday people like yourself to, try and reach out to someone you know that is guilty of texting while driving. Even if that someone is you.
“On September 30, 2009, President Obama issued an executive order prohibiting federal employees from texting while driving on government business or with government equipment.” Many other companies followed after that, such as the rail road lines and carrier companies. (2016, CDC.org) Making this a state wide law, for every state, is very important and making sure it is something that the people we elect in office share the same values, would be a third and final step to changing a huge issue that so effects every single one of our lives.

ROAD SAFETY AND SAFE DRIVE
Road safety involves methods to prevent injuries from traffic accidents. The main danger is the risk of collisions. Children are especially vulnerable because of lack of supervision. More than 1.2 million people die worldwide in road accidents each year. The main causes of accidents are distracted driving, speeding, drunk driving, rain, and running red lights. Solutions include better driver education, public safety campaigns, and improved road conditions.
Action Learning for Traffic Safety
To reduce the number of accidents, schools need to work with traffic safety and Safe Roads awareness. To create an understanding for what can be done, the schools can start this to work from children´s angle with “My Dream Road”.
The result of this handbook will end in arranging an event in your school showing what and how the students have worked with this issue, who got rewards. In the program
you will invite parents, the road administration and politicians. Don’t forget to share your ideas and results of Safe Road to the net.
SORSA 2015 PROFILE
The Society of Road Safety Ambassadors (SORSA) is a non-profit youth-led organization in Botswana that aims to reduce road accidents among young people through education and advocacy. SORSA comprises active youths who work to educate the community on road safety issues given that Botswana has high road accident rates. The organization's goals are to be a model for excellence in road safety awareness, lead national efforts to reduce youth road crashes, and groom a road-wise generation. SORSA partners with government and private organizations and has conducted various outreach, advocacy, and awareness campaigns.

The traffic affects everyone who is on the road, either students or cars, because they will be late for destinations they are trying to reach.
What makes the traffic worse is that some students cross the road without checking cars while they are riding their skateboards or bicycles. It is dangerous to cross the road without paying attention because pedestrians might get hit by a car. Even though cars must stop when pedestrians walk across the road on the zebra crossing lines, students should yield before they pass the road. This scenario tends to happen often on campus especially during the ten-minute break; students who ride skateboards and bicycles do not care about the drivers and can cause an accident and can end up with a permanent injury.

Provide background:
Every day, a traffic starts on University Boulevard, and it causes traffic delays. It starts on the ten-minute break when students transfer to other classes by crossing the road. What makes this traffic worse is that some pedestrians cross the road without looking for approaching cars. Several people that took the survey said that they saw people got hit by a car because they were not paying attention, so this problem must be taken seriously. The team thought of some solutions to end this problem. However, the group had a lack of knowledge of the school's budget, which is a big problem. Without knowing the school’s budget for this project, it is hard to think of a solution because it might be too expensive for Florida Tech to afford it. For that reason, a research must be done on the school's budget, and what ideas they would support most.
Describe sources of information:
There were several types of sources of information for the research, and they were: personal experiences, expert opinions, and web pages. In the very beginning of the research, Mashal made an appointment with Susan Meeler, the academic advisor of the Civil Engineering department, to discuss with her about the problem and if she has any solutions for the issue. Meleer provided Mashal with a good amount of information and sources that he refers to with the research, and she gave him some suggestions and recommendations for the solutions. Meleer was a good source of information as she had a good exper.

In our city there is only one traffic safety education park and a group of people from that office who goes to the schools in order to give information and workshops about this. Which makes it almost impossible to get an appointment with the park or even to get them to visit our school; for this reason and considering the school’s infrastructure and after a brainstorming session, the students in 9th grade from the Cañaverales International School proposed to fully adapt the car track in preschool (Pic. 2) into an educational traffic safety park for the children in preschool and elementary. Everyday someone loses a love one from a distracted driver, me myself has been one of those people. So I know the pain that that person, my friend was posting a selfie on Facebook through their phone when they crashed and was killed. This is a growing danger amongst drivers in the US. According to the CDC’s website on districted drivers it reports that 1,161 people are either injured or killed in crashes. This should be an issues and a notational concern that law makers should take serious and make some chances to standardize the laws in every state. Is that selfie, text, or like really worth yours or even someone else’s life?
The First step is Awareness, the CDC reports that, “Each day in the United States, over 8 people are killed and 1,161 injured in crashes that are reported to involve a distracted driver” (2016, CDC.org) This number is to high especially for an everyday activity and I think that people should using their cell phone as a distraction while driving a life or death safely concern. With the growing number of technology usage, using an electronic devices, especially a cell phone, while driving is also growing. This is making the dangers on the road are also growing with this trend. Making the people aware of this everyday danger is extremely important.
Experienced drivers should lead by example to the teen and young drivers. That would be a great second step, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s “U Drive. U Text. U Pay. Campaign”, is very vocal about teens and young distracted drivers on the road. “10 percent of all drivers 15 to 19 years old involved in fatal crashes were reported as distracted at the time of the crashes. This age group has the largest proportion of drivers who were distracted at the time of the crash.” (2016, transportation.org) Knowing this should cause an outcry of everyday people like yourself to, try and reach out to someone you know that is guilty of texting while driving. Even if that someone is you.
“On September 30, 2009, President Obama issued an executive order prohibiting federal employees from texting while driving on government business or with government equipment.” Many other companies followed after that, such as the rail road lines and carrier companies. (2016, CDC.org) Making this a state wide law, for every state, is very important and making sure it is something that the people we elect in office share the same values, would be a third and final step to changing a huge issue that so effects every single one of our lives.

ROAD SAFETY AND SAFE DRIVE
Road safety involves methods to prevent injuries from traffic accidents. The main danger is the risk of collisions. Children are especially vulnerable because of lack of supervision. More than 1.2 million people die worldwide in road accidents each year. The main causes of accidents are distracted driving, speeding, drunk driving, rain, and running red lights. Solutions include better driver education, public safety campaigns, and improved road conditions.
Action Learning for Traffic Safety
To reduce the number of accidents, schools need to work with traffic safety and Safe Roads awareness. To create an understanding for what can be done, the schools can start this to work from children´s angle with “My Dream Road”.
The result of this handbook will end in arranging an event in your school showing what and how the students have worked with this issue, who got rewards. In the program
you will invite parents, the road administration and politicians. Don’t forget to share your ideas and results of Safe Road to the net.
SORSA 2015 PROFILE
The Society of Road Safety Ambassadors (SORSA) is a non-profit youth-led organization in Botswana that aims to reduce road accidents among young people through education and advocacy. SORSA comprises active youths who work to educate the community on road safety issues given that Botswana has high road accident rates. The organization's goals are to be a model for excellence in road safety awareness, lead national efforts to reduce youth road crashes, and groom a road-wise generation. SORSA partners with government and private organizations and has conducted various outreach, advocacy, and awareness campaigns.

A Road Safety Culture
For the last 8 years since 2015, I have been conducting annual Road Safety Campaigns in a mission to lower the traffic accidents statistics. The campaign dubbed #AmbSteveMbuguaRoadSafetyCampaign takes place at different parts of the country.
We have so far lost lives through road accidents in Kenya more than Tripple the number we have lost through Covid-19. Kenya loses on average 4900 lives every year through road traffic accidents. The high rate of road accidents in the world at large is highly worrisome. Many people lost their loved ones on road accidents while many others are injured or disabled. Based on the statistics given by WHO, nearly 1.3 million people die in road accidents each year and on average, 3,287 die daily. More so, 20 to 50 million people are injured or disabled due to road traffic accidents. It is also important to note that road traffic accidents have no respect for anyone or class of people; in other words, rich and poor, young and old etc. are dying in road accidents nearly every day, around the world. Furthermore, it is also known that road traffic accidents constitute the leading cause of death among the youths. For instance, almost 400,000 people under age 25 die in road accidents every year in the world and on average over 1,000 people die per day. The major reason for the high rate of deaths on the road is simply because many road users around the world have not seen road safety as an individual key responsibility. This explains why good road safety culture is almost non-existent in many societies particularly in Africa. Road safety is of prime importance as road accidents are among the biggest causes of deaths in the country. With the number of vehicles on our roads increasing with every passing hour, it’s of vital importance for everyone to have traffic awareness and understand and respect all the road safety rules in Kenya.
Road traffic safety refers to the methods and measures used to prevent road users from being killed or seriously injured. Typical road users include pedestrians, cyclists, motorists, vehicle passengers, skaters, horse riders, and passengers of on-road public transport.
The regular road users include: pedestrians, cyclists, motorists and passengers in public transport. In a simple language, everybody is a road user. Hence, road safety can be described as the methods and measures put in place in order to prevent all road users from being killed or seriously injured.
Traffic Safety Culture includes the values, beliefs, and attitudes that influence road user behaviors and stakeholder actions.
2016 - YLP Presentation
The Young Leaders Programs have been running at Trinity College since 2001. The programs allow students aged 14 to 17 to experience college and university life by attending lectures and classes. The programs focus on leadership development, critical thinking, community engagement and helping students gain a broader outlook on learning and future directions. The programs run in July and cover various academic streams aligned with University of Melbourne degrees.

- 1. TRAFFIC SAFETY STARTS IN ANYANO M/A JHS AND PRIMARY SCHOOL ANYANO M/A JHS and PRIMARY SCHOOL are schools in Kumasi. Since participating in MKFC “SHARING AWARENESS Workshop” in February of 2010, they have adopted the lessons they learned from the workshop. One initiative was to enlighten children on Traffic Safety in their community. Above are the initiators of the traffic safety project: Mr. Frank Gyimah, Mrs. Dora Afua Pokua, Headmistress of Anyano M/A JHS School, and Mr. Kennedy Mintah. Thomas Atta Badioo, Erica Asare, and Rashid Behisea are students of Anyano M/A School who realize the importance of traffic safety. “Traffic accidents are the second leading cause of deaths globally among 5-29 year- olds and the third leading cause of deaths among 30-40 year-olds. Road crashes kill 1.2 million people every year and injure or disable as many as 50 million more.” http://safetytraffic.eu/ Since the beginning of the year (2010), 4 children have been killed through traffic accidents Anyano M/A is not the only school in the community; AL-HUDA ISLAMIC JHS, ST PAUL INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL, and BIBLE FAITH INTERNATIONAL are among the schools in the community. Over one thousand students in all attend these various schools. Discussions with community leaders and other members of the community painted a frightening picture of how unsafe the community is for pedestrians, especially school children, as they head back and forth to school every day.

A snack seller that has been located on the school park for over 3 years talked about how she has witnessed numerous fatal accidents involving children. “There are no speed limit posts, or any road signs, the drivers therefore drive haphazardly throughout the community. We need more of this to happen here, it’s just sad when children die like that,” she lamented. 10 years old children, walk to school without any adult supervision and cross the main road every day. With no zebra crossings for students to use, the area for crossing has become an “anywhere will do” situation.
- 3. The Solution The traffic safety project aims to provide a designated location for students and individuals to safely cross without endangering their lives. Drivers and others alike will be properly educated on safety signs and how to recognize the safety signs. Speed bumps will also be created to help control the speed in and around the school zones. The students, through pictures and personal experiences, talk with community members about the traffic project. They have all been involved in circumstances where they were involved or were almost involved in traffic accidents. The students have been sharing information with the community since the workshop. They want to save their lives, and realizing the need to educate the general public on how to avoid accidental deaths, the students will do just that.
