Positive Thinking and Perseverance: How Martial Arts Changed My Daughter's Life
1. Positive Thinking and Perseverance
Changing Lives Martial Arts stands apart from other extracurricular sports programs because it not only provides children with physical activity for a healthy lifestyle but also provides a well-rounded education applicable to all areas of a child’s life. CLMA not only acknowledges and rewards achievements in martial arts but also encourages achievement outside the studio in school and at home.
Since attending CLMA’s Karate for Kids program, my daughter, Jen, has become more focused on her schoolwork and harder working in all activities she participates in. She really takes pride in herself and her work. They have helped her set attainable goals that keep her on a constant uphill track, always striving to improve. CLMA’s reward system has helped her believe in herself, think positively and stay motivated and enthusiastic. She can easily see, by receiving tangible awards, what she is capable of if she has the willingness and perseverance to achieve her goals.
Changing Lives MA’s message is to believe in oneself and do what is necessary to succeed. Jen has learned with patience, self discipline, positive thinking and perseverance she can succeed in anything she puts her mind to. CLMA also teaches the importance of respectfulness toward others by doing the right thing even in the face of negative peer pressure as well as the importance of respecting oneself by eating well, exercising the body and mind, getting plenty of sleep and basically being happy with the person staring back at you in the mirror.
Jen has also built the self-confidence to not let negative thinking or a fear of failure stand in the way of her going for what she wants. This year she tried out for a spot on the softball team and a part in the school play. She has the confidence to get out there and do it because she now knows with hard work and practice she will improve. She also knows that becoming a star player does not happen overnight. To me, that is really something for an 8-year-old to understand and accept in a world filled with video gaming systems, iPhones and the instant gratification many kids her age have come to expect.
Jen received straight A’s for the first time on her last report card. During our last parent-teacher conference, I was told she is one of the most courteous, respectful and engaged students her teacher has had in years. I’m certain that has a lot to do with her experience in Karate for Kids.
Martial Arts has helped my daughter realize her potential. She has been given the support and confidence to aim high and not let negative thinking stand in her way. I am grateful to CLMA for the tools they have provided my daughter to succeed in school and in life.
Whether your child is at the top of her class, struggling in school, a sports enthusiast or a book worm, CLMA will bring out the best in your child.
