VMC Technologies represents the Toyoda machinery product line in the state of Michigan. Toyoda’s product line includes horizontal and vertical machining centers, bridge gantry boring mills, and automation systems. Toyoda’s machine tools were originally manufactured for the production lines of a major Japanese automotive company, Toyoda’s machines machines were built to be ruggedly tough in high production environments.

6. Toyoda machines were originally manufactured for the production lines
of a major Japanese car manufacturer. Today, Toyoda’s line of high
quality machining centers, vertical lathes & crankshaft grinding
machines are used to produce and finish parts for the following
industries:
tooling – stamping, forming, forging casting dies - injection, blow molds – jigs – fixtures – surgical implants /instruments – air craft engines – wind turbines - prototypes

Horizontal Machining Centers
Horizontal machining centers use a horizontal
spindle where the tool cuts on the side of the work
piece. Although horizontal machining centers are
more expensive than vertical machining centers,
they provide several advantages such as:
① increased productivity since parts can be
loaded on multi sided pallets
② chips do not collect in the work zone
③ accessibility to the next work piece while the
machine is running

A vertical machining center (VMC) is a
machine tool with its spindle in a
vertical position. As the tool rotates, it
removes material (chips) from the
work piece. In most VMCs the table
moves in the X , Y axis the the spindle
moves the Z axis.
VMCs are a staple in any machine
shop. They are used to produce finish
parts, bore holes and rough out
cavities. VMCs are also available with
automatic tool and pallet changers.

VMCs are used to machine dies / molds & production parts.
Vertical Machining Centers

5 Axis VMCs provide added flexibility
by moving / rotating the work piece
with a trunnion- style table. In
addition to the X,Y and Z axis, the
trunnion table’s A & B axis can tilt and
rotate the work piece.

vertical machining advantages
①complex machining that was previously
impossible
②eliminates multiple setups
③eliminates costly fixtures required to hold parts
④great solution for complex prototype parts
⑤uses shorter tools resulting in increased feed
rates, heavier cuts leading to improved
productivity

Bridge Mills
Toyoda Product Line
Toyoda’s bridge mill vertical
machining centers are designed
for large part and heavy duty
milling applications. The
columns that the spindle sits on
are fixed.
The spindle can move back and
forth between the columns, but
it can’t move in both X and Y
directions… to machine in the Y
direction, the table moves from
left to right.

Bridge mills are used to mill large parts for in the:
• oil/gas
• agriculture
• construction
• aerospace industries

VMC or Bridge Mill?
Since bridge mills support the spindle on two columns, as
opposed to the single support of a VMC, it provides more
rigidity than a standard VMC. In most cases, though, a customer
will be forced to buy a bridge mill over a standard mill because
the part it too big to fit in our VMCs. Toyoda’s smallest bridge is
still larger than our biggest VMC.

Adjustable Cross Rail Bridge
Adjustable cross rail bridge machines are used
for heavy cuts and large part machining made.
Moving cross rail machines offer fully automatic
five-face machining and tool changes in the
horizontal and vertical orientations. Parts
machined are often used for the aerospace,
heavy equipment, & energy, industries
Toyoda’s super rigid Adjustable Cross
Rail Bridge machining centers offers
5 face machining and tool & head
changes in the horizontal & vertical
positions.

Gantry Mills
Toyoda Product Line
Gantry mills are designed for
very large, & heavy part
machining. The milling head
rides over rails which are
positioned on the sides of the
machine. The spindle moves in
X & Y directions by riding on
the rails.
The work table is
stationary because of the
weight of the workpiece.

Gantry Mills
For large gantry mills, the customer will
often carve out a space for the machine in
their foundation, so the bed is level
with the floor.

Boring Mills
Boring mills are used to increase the size
of an existing hole in a work piece. The
boring machining process will increase
and improve the size, finish
and accuracy of the hole.
The work piece is mounted
vertically on a table. The
spindle attached to a vertically
adjustable head which is fed
horizontally and bores
the hole into the work piece.

19. Unlike holes into metalVertical Turning Lathes
Unlike horizontal lathes, vertical
lathes are designed to turn large
diameter heavy work pieces. The
work piece is mounted onto a
table that rotates the part. The
cutting tool is position in the
vertical spindle and removes
metal as the part rotates.
