On 26th March, Dr Bex Lewis will be running a Collaborative Enhancement and Teaching (CET) Lunch, 12.30 - 2pm
The topic will be 'The 21st Century Learner', with discussions on blended learning tools and the use of social networks.
CET lunches are an informal space to discuss and share learning and teaching experiences/practice across the university.
The session will include discussions as to what differences there may be with "The 21st Century Learner", a summary of Sir David Melville's CLEX report from March 2009, a consideration of what Blended Learning is, visual stats, and a look at some potential tools/their uses.
(The presentation was somewhat a 'work in progress', and there's a lot more depth I'd like to investigate, but it generated great discussion, and some thinking for me/others!)
The current literature suggest microblogging enables interactions between audiences around the world, creates a commonplace for discussion, as well as a platform to share resources. Microblogging in the elementary classroom can be successful when these applications are used correctly.

There is greater awareness of the use of data to make improvements in the world around us including learning and teaching. From improvements in business processes to recommendations to what to buy on Amazon all are driven by data. Data by itself does not make a better learner experience and only analytics, the process of making an actionable insight, can help identify gains. As an emerging area 'Learning Analytics' is abound with new opportunities but at the same time these opportunities also raise new ethical and operational concerns. In this presentation we introduce some basic learning analytics concepts, identifying tools and workflows staff may wish to consider. As part of this we also consider the dangers of analytics identifying areas which may lead to learner demotivation or misconception and the questions we should all be asking ourselves to make sure we are always gaining *good* actionable insight.

The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

What is a child theme?
A child theme is a theme that works with an original (parent) theme to add new functions and otherwise
customize the original theme. This is the recommended way of making modifications to a theme because
you will not need to track your changes and redo them each time the theme is updated. Additional

How do I create a child theme?
Step 1. Using your ftp client, create a new child theme folder/directory in the /wp-content/themes
directory. You may want to name the directory something like parentname-child.
Step 2. Using a text editor, create style.css with the code below. Upload the style.css file to the new
child theme directory.

Author: Your name
Template: Directory name of parent theme ß this is important and must
match exactly (case sensitive)

Now you have the base for your child theme. Files inside the child folder override original
theme files.
Step 3. Select and activate your new child theme from the WordPress administration panel (Appearance
à Themes).
Step 4. You must reapply customizations created within the parent theme. For example, if you are using
the “Briefed” theme, you must re-apply Settings à Permalinks à Save Changes.
