13. INTERPRETATIONS:
- There’s an increase in the percentage of tourists, from 2017 to 2018, coming for the purpose of
Tour, i.e. by 2.79% (78.10%- 80.89%)
- Decrease in the percentage of tourists visiting South Korea can be seen for the purpose of Business
, Official work and others by 0.18%(1.32%-1.14%), 0.02%(0.41%-0.39%), 2.59%(20.15%-17.56%)
respectively.
- We can see that the combined percentage of Official and Business visits for both the years 2017
and 2018 is less than the tourists visiting for other reasons that may be VFFs(visiting friends and
families), for a K-pop Concert, for attending fan sign events of K-pop idols/ K-drama stars, etc.
- There is an increase in growth of the tourists visiting from East Asia and The Pacific for the purpose
of Tour, Business, Official and others from 2017-2018.
- There is an increase in growth of the tourists visiting from America for the purpose of Tour, Official
and others whereas decrease in growth for the purpose of Business can be seen from 2017-2018.

• At the present day, the topmost reason for travelling to South Korea is due to ‘Hallyu’.
• Beyond Hallyu : How Korea plans to attract more tourists.
• People from all over the world visit South Korea especially from East Asia and The Pacific (China and
Japan being the top countries to visit).
• South Korea has hosted many international events, including the 1988 Summer Olympics, the 1993
Taejon Expo, the 2002 FIFA World Cup (jointly hosted with Japan), the 2005 APEC conference, the
2010 G-20 Seoul summit, the 2014 Asian Games, and the 2018 Winter Olympics which has resulted in
a massive increase in the FTA’s in South Korea for the past years.
• From this report we can conclude that in the future too, we’ll see more number of tourists from the
East Asia and The Pacific region. The other regions too will show a considerable growth in the tourist
visiting this country.
