This document summarizes research on European funding for smart city projects. It analyzed 64 smart city projects across various Italian cities to understand participation in EU projects and influence on tourism. The research developed a methodology to collect data on smart city projects, funding amounts and recipients. It found that the studied Italian cities received over €3.6 million in EU funding for 16% of total project costs on average. Many projects addressed sustainability and mobility issues with potential benefits for tourism by enhancing city attractions, accessibility and amenities.
