Evidence-based practice (EBP) is a problem-solving approach to clinical decision making that incorporates the best available research evidence, clinician expertise, and patient values and preferences. The five steps to EBP are: (1) Ask a clinical question, (2) Acquire the evidence, (3) Appraise the evidence, (4) Apply evidence to individual patients, and (5) Assess performance and outcomes. EBP aims to optimize patient care by integrating the best research evidence with clinical expertise.
