Lecture 1: Fox and the crow, Goose with the golden Egg
Aesop Fables
Let us learn who Aesop was and what are Aesop
Fables before we go into the story.
Aesop's Fables is a collection of fables credited to Aesop, a
slave and storyteller believed to have lived in ancient Greece
between 620 and 564 BCE. Of diverse origins, the stories
associated with Aesop's name have descended to modern
times through a number of sources.
Let us now read the story…
A Fox once saw a Crow fly off with a piece of cheese in
its beak and settle on a branch of a tree.
"That's for me, as I am a Fox," said Master Reynard, and
he walked up to the foot of the tree.
"Good day, Mistress Crow," he cried. "How well you
are looking today: how glossy your feathers; how bright
your eye. I feel sure your voice must surpass that of
other birds, just as your figure does; let me hear but
one song from you that I may greet you as the Queen
of Birds."
The Crow lifted up her head and began to caw
her best, but the moment she opened her
mouth the piece of cheese fell to the ground,
only to be snapped up by Master Fox.
"That will do," said he. "That was all I wanted.
In exchange for your cheese I will give you a
piece of advice for the future: "Do not trust
flatterers."
And what did we came to know from the story?
Don’t fool other. Otherwise you will be fooled.

Q
Let us now read and listen to
this story….
A man and his wife owned a very special goose. Every day the
goose would lay a golden egg, which made the couple very rich.
"Just think," said the man's wife, "If we could have all the golden
eggs that are inside the goose, we could be richer much faster."
"You're right," said her husband, "We wouldn't have to wait for the
goose to lay her egg every day."
So, the couple killed the goose and cut her open, only to find that she
was just like every other goose. She had no golden eggs inside of her
at all, and they had no more golden eggs.
•
Moral of the story: Too much greed results in
nothing.
