The Board of Directors’ Deep Dive was a day-long event where the TMA
board considered the following:
• Evaluation of current Museum practice
• Evaluation of TMA business model and plan for campus
• Conceptualization of “Museum in a Park” goal and Master Plan
5. February
The Libbey Dolls exhibition in Gallery 18 wrapped
up in February but became a permanent rotating
exhibition in the Works on Paper Gallery.
6. February
A plan for the TMA campus includes ideas to:
• Maximize spaces
• Activate Monroe Street
• Refurbish galleries and Education wing
• Activate Peristyle
7. February
TMA earned several awards in February, including:
• Gold local ADDY and Judge’s Choice in “Exhibition Design” for I Approve This Message
• Bronze local ADDY for a direct mail piece for I Approve This Message
• Gold district level ADDY for I Approve This Message (in March)
• Institution “We Are Most Proud of” in Toledo City Paper’s Best of Toledo contest

The Ohio Museums Association
recognized TMA by naming it “Institution
of the Year.”
Longtime Museum supporter Georgia
Wells received “Museum Advocate of the
Year” honors from the organization.
TMA also won Gold in the Architecture,
National category for The Glass Pavilion
in the 20th annual Independent Publisher
Book Awards.
12. May
For the second year in a row, TMA
won Judge’s Choice in the Museum
Dance Off video competition.

the 2017 Block Party. The
celebration included dancing,
performances, food, and more.

The Berlin Painter and His
World: Athenian Vase Painting
in the Early Fifth Century B.C.
opens in Canaday Gallery.
18. September
Fired Up: Contemporary Glass by
Women Artists opens and features
more than 50 objects from the
Museum’s collection by innovative
and celebrated women artists.
19. September
A campus-wide LED conversion began with over a mile of
fluorescent lights converted to LED. An estimated 65% of
energy savings is expected.
20. September
Renovations of the Levis and Asian
galleries (top left) as well as the
unfinished space in the West Wing
(bottom left) began, allowing for
14,000 square feet of refurbished
gallery space.
21. October
Environmental Health and Safety professionals from Cummins, US Gypsum, and United Rentals
participate in a two-day Visual Literacy Workshop. TMA is partnering with the Campbell
Institute, the research arm of the National Safety Council.
22. November
More than 200 Museum
supporters celebrated the
Polishing the Gem campaign
on Nov. 11 at a thank you
gala. The event gave thanks
to both those gathered and
those unable to attend for
giving to the campaign
which has raised over $43
million to date.
23. November
In honor of Veterans Day, TMA
offered free glassblowing classes to
veterans and active duty service
members at the Glass Pavilion.
24. November
Glorious Splendor: Treasures of Early
Christian Art opens. The exhibition features
some 30 masterpieces of Late Roman art,
most of which have never been exhibited
before in a museum.
25. December
In partnership with Ottawa Hills Travel and Monteverdi Tuscany, the
Museum kicks off a membership drive in which qualifying members
are entered into a raffle for a trip for four to Tuscany, Italy.
26. December
“The Great Art Escape” returns. This annual event
takes place between Christmas and New Year’s Day.
Over 70 family-friendly activities are scheduled
from Dec. 26 through Dec. 31, 2017
