A SMALL EFFORT FOR A CHANGE
CONSTITUTION RULES THEN AND NOW
What constitution tells us??
• Governmental vehicles cannot be used
for campaining .
• No party should criticize other party or
people .
• The right of every individual for
peaceful and undisturbed home life
should be safeguarded.
• The passage of the procession must be
without hindrance to traffic.
• Loudspeakers whether static or
mounted on moving vehicles shall not
be used either before 6 a.m. or after
10a.m.
• No liquor should be distributed during
elections.
• No inducement, financial or otherwise,
shall be offered to the voter.
Present situation…
WHY THE PROBLEM IS ARISING?
• Lack of awareness
• Selling votes for money
• False affidavit
• Use of black money
• Muscle power
• There is no record of how much amount each political party receives every year
from the donors
• There is no correct method to implement
• Misuse of religion for electoral gain

Look how people’s money got wasted….
WHAT CAN WE DO AS A PART OF IT??
• Pre-Election Voter Awareness
Campaigns are aimed at making
people aware of: the importance of
their participation in electoral
processes either as voters or
candidates.
• Platform Mounting means creating a
platform for dialogue during the run-
up to the elections by bringing
together representatives of all the
electoral stakeholders such as the
Election Commission.
• Candidate debates are a key
component of a political campaign.
• Election Monitoring is intended to
strengthen the electoral process by
providing an independent
assessment of election preparations.
• Accountability for Electoral
Promises involves various means that
CSOs can deploy for effectively
demanding the fulfillment of
electoral promises - thus enhancing
the political credibility - of individual
politicians and the democratic system
more generally.
•
Crinis is a tool to measure the
transparency of political financing
activity. The purpose of Crinis is two-
fold. Firstly, it assesses the legal
framework and practices with regards
to transparency
IS THERE ANY WAY OUT?
• Janlokpal bill
– for an independent body to investigate corruption cases.
• Decriminalization of politics
– A person who has been imprisoned for more than 5 years is not entitled to
contest
• Punishment of electoral offences should be enhanced
• Government sponsored advertisements
– Atleast 6 months prior to campaining the govt should stop all the
advertisements in which their achievements are displayed
• Punishment for false affidavit by candidates
• Ban of transfer of election officers on the eve of elections
• The commission should be given an authority to make rules under the Act 1950
and 1951.
• The cabinet should comprise all categories of candidates
YOUTH POWER
“Courage to think different, Courage to invent, Courage to discover the impossible,
Courage to travel into an unexplored path, Courage to share knowledge Courage
to remove pain Courage to reach the unreached Courage to combat problems And
Succeed, Are the unique qualities of youth."
• Youth can take part in organizations like youth assemblies
where they get hands on experience in politics.
• Youth should be aware of government policies and the
constitution rules and bring their voice in public view.
• Youth can organize ‘voter registration drives’ in those areas
where people are deprived of voting.
• Youth can participate in demonstrations, rallies, skits etc..
to encourage people to know their rights and power of
voting.
MEDIA IN POLITICS
• Media can perform sting operations to bring out the real faces of
corrupt politicians.
• Social media can be used by higher authorities to reach every
person and their problems.
• Social media can be used to raise and unite the voice of India and
bring out revolution .
• Media can act as a bridge between pubic and the government for
better awareness of policies.
• Media should not be biased towards any party or person.
• Media can be a good platform for raising our views and opinions
regarding a particular issue.
