Animals in Medical Experiments Essay
Animal experimentation has been credited for the medicines made to assist diabetes, vaccines for
smallpox, deep brain stimulation for parkinson s disease, and many more along with millions of
dollars spent on failed experiments, millions of animal deaths a year, misleading data and an
overall bigger loss than gain. The main point of animal testingis to benefit the safety and overall
health of humans, but testing on non humans to learn about humans doesn t contribute to the cause.
Humans have the voice protective of their own lives and demand rights, though every living
creature deserves the right to life and to safety. The way these animals are being treated is heinous
and insulting to the humanrace, as it subsides our morals and some... Show more content on

Rats show us that they are of senses and are similar to humans, if they weren t we wouldn t be
testing on them, rats aren t less intelligence to other animals; So they deserve rights just as other
animals.
Animal testing models live generally deplorable and very restricted. These animals are deprived
of social interaction and proper living environments their entire lives. This often causes odd
behaviors that could very well interfere with every experiment. For example large Rhesus
monkeys are kept in two feet by three feet cages and they developed abnormal neurotic behavior,
such extreme conditions make the animal s text results very questionable. (Fox) Scientists ignore
the animal s stuffing and call it adaptive because it is due to their unfitting environments. Scientists
also put aside their mental, emotional, psychological and social suffering and it s significance on
their projects. There are laws against the cruelty against animals that live in our homes but an
animal bred to test on has almost no safety rights; rats and mice have none at all. These specimens
are burned, cut open, shocked, poisoned, socially isolated, starved, dehydrated, forcibly restrained,
addicted to drugs, brain damaged, given birth defects, and killed in various pointless
experiments(Chanda). Not many humans can even imagine having any of those things being done
to them, yet everyday we take the power over a

Shoe Line Named Violette By Terry Richardson
In 2008 Vashtie took a legendary step into the fashion by creating her own now well known
clothing line named Violette. With an official debut in Fall 2008, the clothing was said to be
inspired by a mix of opposite worlds: uptown and downtown, hip hop and rock, feminine and
masculine, casual and couture . Vibe listed the 31 Most Stylish People Under 31 with Vashtie
coming in at the 23rd spot among names like Kanye West, Rihanna and Justin Timberlake
(Monae 2015). She was also featured in Nylon Magazine as part of their lineup of It Girls . In this
same year Vashtie interviewed Sean Diddy Combs for Supreme Magazine, which was
photographed by Terry Richardson, and was included in the NikeDestroyer Campaign alongside
notables like Dee Ricky, a twin fashion icon duo, and Scott Campbell a New York based American
artist and tattoo artist whose clients include Sting, Robert Downey, Jr., Courtney Love, Orlando
Bloom, Josh Hartnett, and Marc Jacobs. Vashtie s approach incorporates a core sensibility that
marries the cosmopolitan to an unhinged street aesthetic, which is why Time Out New York once
named her Most Stylish New Yorker. She challenges the boundaries of gender, beauty, and
individuality embodied by the aesthetic of her brand Violette. Violette is carried in select
boutiques, including Colette in Paris. The distinctive flair found in her designs for Violette has
served as a platform for partnerships with brands. In 2010, Vashtie became the first woman to design

Charles Darrow Monopoly
Monopoly Monopoly has been around for 80 years and was created by a man names Charles
Darrow in 1933. Even though it became a success it took a while, Darrow tried to sell monopoly
to parker brothers, but it was rejected for 52 fundamental errors . Darrow decided to go ahead and
start selling the Game in local department stores. After his success Parker brothers reconsidered and
negotiated the rights to market the game. The game has become such a huge hit that is published
in 47 languages and sold in 114 countries, and fans gather every few years to compete in a world
championship tournament. In the next few paragraphs I am going to teach you how to play this
familyfavorite game since 1935. Games of monopoly have been played in peculiar... Show more

Place your token in the corner marked GO, then throw the dice, the number that you get is the
amount of spaces that you move. After the first player is done with their turn, the turn passes to
the person to the left of them. When you land on a property space you have the option to buy the
property, pay rent, or pay taxes. If you land on a chance or community chest space, you have to
draw a card. If you throw doubles you take your turn as you normally would and then you get
another turn, but if you throw doubles three times in a row you have to immediately go to jail.
When a player passes go they collect $200 from the bank, it doesn t matter if you roll the dice
and pass it or if you draw a chance or community chest card that tells you to pass it. You can only
collect $200 once each time around the board. The only exception to collect again after you pass
GO in one turn is if you land on a community chest or a chance and it tells you to pass go again,
then you collect for both times you have passed. Monopoly is such an in depth game that there is
not a time limit set for it, which is one of the reasons that it originally got rejected by Parker
Brothers. They wanted Darrow to meet the 45 minute game rule. Parker also thought that the game
should have a specific end, a goal to reach and in monopoly the players just keep going round and
round the board. The only object of the game is to bankrupt the other

The Importance Of Freedom Of Religion By Nicaragua
Nicaragua is a country full of colorful culture and ancient traditions blended in with modern beliefs.
However, religious practices of the community would not be the same without the democratizing of
the religion in Nicaragua. The revolution which overthrew the president at the time also caused a
conflict between the popular church at the time and the church hierarchy, but it was worth the
conflict. Religious freedom has been protected by their constitution since 1939, this is not an
unusual occurrence. There is a numerous amount of different religions such as Jewish, Muslim,
Mormon, Mennonites, Jehovah s Witness, Baha is, Evangelical, Moravian , and more. The most
prominent religionat this time is Christian; Roman Catholic still... Show more content on

No matter the number of religions, the Indigenous people on the coast are allowed their own
practices and beliefs.
Though the people are varied, the government does seem to favor the Roman Catholic religion. In
no way does it seem to interfere in government affairs, though it might be viewed that way. People
trust the Catholic bishops in coming to important state occasions. Whatever the bishops may say in
the matter of national issues they are closely followed. Saints are seen by Nicaraguans as
intercessors between god and humans, patron saints are even thrown festivals in which they are
paraded through the cities. The Catholic church in general has great historical presence in Nicaragua
and the government treats it as so. But sometimes there can be a fall out in religion and
government. At this time in fact, the Roman Catholics are attempting to make schools buy
religious textbooks. This was not viewed well by the Protestants. Public schools still pursue a
system without teaching religion. Private schools however take and teach all religions. Up until
the revolution, Nicaragua had the same family in their presidential reign for 43 years. The last
family member of this dynasty was Anastasio Somoza Debayle. During his presidency from 1974
1979, there was much uproar between religion and education. When he was removed from office
by the FSLN was when people started to put

Effects Of The Oil Spill On The Gulf Of Mexico
Many people wonder what actually happens to the animals when the oil spill happens. This oil
spill happened five years ago and nearly 5 barrels of oil was spilt into the Gulf of Mexico. The oil
spill was caused from an explosion through the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig about 40 miles off
the coast of Louisiana. The main effect from this oil spillwas the losses of the animals. Causing
many to almost go extinct. As a result from the oil spill the earth has had losses from pollution, the
cost, and the damage of people.
The first effect of the oil spill is many losses from pollution caused by the BP Oil Spill. Such as
all the animals that were endangered by the oil. Their environment was being intruded by the 4.9

A known species of birds brown pelican, white pelican, and laughing gulls were found to be
decreased by 800,000. A 2012 study determined that white pelicans that had migrated from the
gulf to Minnesota to breed were producing eggs that contained discernible amounts of
compounds that were traceable to the BP spill. Eggs containing traces of contaminants were
found in Iowa and Illinois as well ( Deepwater Horizon oil spill of 2010 ). Animals that were
found alive in the wake of the spill were transported to rehabilitation centres and, after being
cleaned and medically evaluated, were released into oil free areas. Concerns about the offspring
of sea turtles that nested on the gulf coasts of Alabama and Florida led wildlife officials to dig up
thousands of eggs and hatch them in a warehouse for later release on the Atlantic coast. By late 2012
some 1,700 turtles had been found dead. A long term satellite tracking study released in May
2013 showed that the endangered Kemp s ridley sea turtle was likely severely affected, as its
preferred foraging territory was within the area damaged by the spill. It was estimated that up to
65,000 imperiled turtles had died during 2010 alone, mostly as a result of oil contamination. It was
also estimated that some 300,000 turtles, some of which were originally from breeding populations
in other parts of the world, were in the region of the spill when it occurred, leading scientists to
point out the global impacts

Four Signs Of Groupthink
Groupthink is a theory of social interaction involved with methods of group decision making,
originally developed by Irving Janis, a social psychologist, in 1972 (Communication Theory).
Groupthink was initially described by Janis as the thought processes of people engaged in group
decision making with a deep desire to conform to in group members гѓјrequiring extreme loyalty to
group values and the exclusion of those deemed part of an out group . In situations when groupthink
occurs, the need for members of the group discussion to conform their ideas to those of the group
overpowers the individual s need to evaluate group choices critically, whether or not one fully
agrees or supports an alternative answer (Psychology Today). There inlies danger... Show more

The first of these signs of groupthink named Out , due to the nature of the phenomenon, arises
when people disagree with majority consensus receive accusations of doing so purposefully,
resulting in conflict from the argumentative nature of the situation (Janis). This ties into the Direct
Pressure on Dissenters trait, which details how group members will threaten/ put pressure on those
expressing opposition to majority opinion to persuade them not to contradict the expectations of the
group. This then leads into the next phenomenon of groupthink called Self Censorship . Self
Censorship, produced by pressures to conform, explains that, when a member believes they are the
only person who has a certain belief, they self censor for fear of being outcast from the group.
Instead of speaking out, they keep their thoughts hidden from othersгѓјnot wanting to be a dissenter
or seen as disagreeable. Because of Self Censorship, the next symptom of groupthink, Illusions of
Unanimity , emerges. Illusions of Unanimity describes when a member silences their own voice, so
the group infers that the person agrees, even if this is

involves the owners (principals) delegating decision making authority to managers (agents). A
conflict occurs when the agents pursue acceptable levels of shareholder wealth and profit rather
than a maximization of profit. They are pursuing their own self interests. One way that the agents
act in their own self interests would be by focusing on long term job security. This could cause the
agents to limit the amount of risk taken by the firm. The firm may have an opportunity that is
considered a riskier venture that could produce high profits if successful. If the venture proves to be

A company has to find a way to achieve a balance between rewarding managers to the point that it
is detrimental to the company and finding a way to maximize the wealth of the shareholders. 6.
The goal of shareholder wealth maximization model is to maximize the return to shareholders,
and it is measured by the value of the firm s common stock. It is also concerned with minimizing
the risk to the shareholders bonuses. The model looks at the present value of all expected future
cash flows (McGuigan, Moyer, Harris, 2011, p.8). a) New foreign competitors: This has the
potential to decrease the value of the firm and could impact the future cash flows of a company.
The introduction of competition in the marketplace can affect the profitability of a company. The
level of the decrease in value would depend on the involvement of the firm in global markets and
the level of competition. b) Strict pollution control: This has the potential to decrease the value of
the firm if the firm cannot adapt to the changes in requirements. If the firm allows the stricter
requirements to hamper production, then the value of the firm would decrease. However, if the
firm has planned for this threat by having flexibility when making business plans or creating new
technology to take advantage of the Go Green movement, then there is an opportunity to increase
the value

Tucked away in a corner of The Oaks mall sits a quiet bookstore. Its exterior is something that

Books new ones that remain to be sorted, you guess tower precariously on either side of the
counter, and above the register is the name of the bookstore in an olive green. Surrounding it are
small, framed chalkboards. They advertise things like story time on Sundays and a book club in
intricate handwriting. Everything has a nostalgic tinge to it. From wooden bookshelves to
chalkboard handwriting, the Open Book seems to be a space removed from the digital age of
Kindles and fancy computer search systems. Even the store dГ©cor is reminiscent of a simpler
time, with hand lettering painted on the walls and framed artwork from past art competitions
the bookstore has held. But of course, the first thing that will catch your eye if you enter is the
word Vintage painted black in a neat, serif font along what seems to be the back wall. Curiously,
you may approach this wall first, and without fault it is one of the bookstore s proudest walls.
The shelves here are lined with books that look like they fell out of a library scene in a
Hollywood movie. A little dusty, and a little worn, these books boast of their history. Many of
the texts are bound in a deep red or navy blue, labeled in gold lettering and arranged by color.
This wall alone may be the most picturesque in the entire store. Perhaps you ll open a book, just to
take a look.

Glory Of The Kings Summary
Examine the theme of diplomacy and the building of a state in Kebra Nast
The Kebra Negast was originated in Ethiopia and Eritrea during the early days. The 14th century
version was introduced by an ancient South Semitic language written in Ge ez. Furthermore, the
language of the Kebra Nagast and other sacred scripture are the same Ge ez language used in the

continuously from an ancestor. In fact, the reputation of this book through the king and people of

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Ict In The Philippines
Advances in technology have had a tremendous impact on society. The Philippines is one those
developing country in Asia that seeks to uplift the technology advancement of the nation since ICT
is considered a valuable tool that can be used for the economic development of the country. And in
a region where other countries are already ahead in using ICT to their benefit, we are still struggling

Sonia Sotomayor s book is about her life and her climb from the streets of New York to the place
that she is today. Her book explains the challenges that she faced growing up, losing her father at
such a young age and working hard to accomplish the great achievements that she has
accomplished today. She explains how her upbringing affected how she turned out in life. She
explains what it takes for a woman of a Latino origin to sit on the bench, and she explains her

applied these lessons to the new situations she faced in her life. The book is distributed all over
the United States and inspired more and more Latinos every day. In this way, she has helped them

Analysis Of The Book I Am
At the beginning of the novel, I am immediately implanted a general impression of McTeague, a
clumsily single minded giant, who operates his own dental practice and goes about his daily
routine with satisfaction: he would sit at the bay window (1) reading the paper (1) and
[gorging] with steam beer (1) and even play regularly on his concertina. Moving his immense
limbs (2) slowly and ponderously, McTeague looks like a draught horse, immensely strong,
stupid, docile, obedient (3). Worse than that, his mind was as his body, heavy, slow to act,
sluggish (2). But thanks to his barbaric mind, he is not saddened by his terrible appearance;
instead he feels that his life is quite a success with the dental practice guaranteeing him a stable
income, that he could hope for nothing better (3). He is never fed up with his repetitive days,
and the only enjoyment in his tedious life probably is to appreciate the panorama of the urban
street from his bay window, where the world goes past (6). No matter the various shops or people
from all walks of life, from seven o clock in the morning to eleven in the evening, never fail to
interest him. Besides that, the other way that could connect McTeague with the outside world is
Marcus. Unlike his friend, McTeague is introversive and indifferent to the society and
neighborhood, knowing nothing except for his routine. Therefore, he is frequently bewildered by
Marcus while listening to his political tirade with admiration; but he

When it comes to wellness issues, I have always struggled the most with stress. I have always
been more prone to become stressed, due to my anxiety. Therefore, stress is a big obstacle in my
life, and it is something that I need to find a way to deal with, especially now that I have begun
to attend college. Because I have dealt with anxiety before, I have a good idea of my stress
level. My stress levels can become very high, and as a result, I have several ways of dealing with
stress. As a result, I am familiar with some of the techniques mentioned in the textbook. For
example, exercising has always been an effective stress technique for me. As mentioned in the
textbook, performing exercises such as running and walking on a regular basis has been an
effective way for me to reduce stress. However, the textbook has also introduced me to new
techniques to helpmanage my stress, as well as ways to improve techniques I already use. One of
these new techniques is eatinghealthy. Prior to reading the text, I never considered that my eating
habits would affect my stress levels. However, after reading through the text, I can definitely see
how my eating habits and stress levels affect each other. After evaluating my eating habits, I
noticed that I do not eat healthy when I am stressed. When I become stressed or have an important
event coming up, such having a test or a paper due, I tend to skip meals like breakfast and lunch,
and instead eat smaller snacks of foods such as candy

Roles Of Women In Aeneus
Roles of Women in Virgil s Aeneid and in the Gospel of Luke The women in ancient Roman
patriarchal society as seen in Virgil s Aeneid were limited by societal gendered roles and were
undervalued by men. Contrastingly, Hebrew women as seen in the Gospel of Luke were viewed
as equal to men because both were made in the image and likeness of God. Women were not
important in the epic story of the founding of Rome whereas women were crucial in Jesusmission to
preach the word of God. This essay will look at the roles of Creusa, Dido, and Lavina in the Aeneid
and of Mary, Elizabeth, and Mary Magdalene in the Gospel of Luke. Roman society valued the
tradition of law in the hands of the paterfamilias in which the father held absolute power over his
wife, children, and slaves. The respect for fathers extended into the community and into politics
creating a male dominated society. Women were subordinate to either their father or their husband.
Despite their lower position in society, women were still expected to uphold Roman virtues such
as pietas, the duty to one s family and country. Pietas for women referred to their duty to their
family, especially to their husbands. Once a woman was married, she was expected to act
honorably and respectably by remaining chaste and doing nothing else except for her household
duties. Roman women were expected to stay out of public life and especially to stay out of politics.
Throughout the Aeneid, the hero, Aeneas, had relations with three

The Silent Pool, The Tell Tale Heart, And Things Fall Apart
With many of the texts that were assigned to us, each one dealt with the relationship between
insiders and outsiders differently. The insider and outsider relationship varies between both the idea
of inner conflict and outside conflict. I will be explaining these relationships from the texts of
Gooboora, The Silent Pool, The Tell Tale Heart, and Things Fall Apart. Gooboora, The Silent Pool
deals with the relationship of the Aboriginal people of Australia and colonialization, while The Tell
Tale Heart deals with an outsider s effect on the main character s subconscious. Things Fall Apart,
however, is a mixture of both conflicts that were mentioned. Each of the three texts show how the
outside negatively effects the inside.
In the poem, Gooboora, The Silent Pool by Oodgeroo Noonuccal, it shows some aspects of the
aftermath from colonialism in Australia and how it has affected the Aboriginal people. In
Amanda Woods s thesis, she explains that Noonuccal s poems are a means that speak for the
Aboriginal people. With Gooboora, The Silent Pool, it talks about the lost images of a pool that is
sacred to the Aboriginal people. The aftermath of colonialization has left only a memory for the
people. This story was set after dreamtime, or a time before colonialization. She further explains
(Woods)
Woods s gives a very interesting insight on the poem. She does state that Gooboora is an actual
pool in Australia that was sacred to the Aboriginals, but was renamed to Lake Karboora

Rhetorical Analysis Of Bowling For Columbine
In the 2002 documentary Bowling for Columbine, American political activist and filmmaker
Michael Moore sets out to explore the primary causes of the 1999 Columbine Highschool
massacre, as well as the roots of gun violence in the United States in his trademark provocative
yet satirical manner. Bowling for Columbine takes a deep and often disconcerting investigation
into the motives of two Colorado student shooters, responsible for the deaths of over 12 people
at Columbine High School on April 20, 1999, and examines other gun related issues as well.
From obtaining free guns at a bank, to reviewing America s violent history, and interviewing a
variety of people, Moore demonstrates that the conventional answers of violent national history
and entertainment, as well as poverty are inadequate of causing this violence, for other nations
share the same factors without the same levels of carnage. In order to arrive at a possible
explanation, Moore takes on a deeper inspection of America s culture of fear, and violence in a
nation with widespread gun ownership. Ultimately, the documentary implies that the high
incidence of gun deaths in America is caused by the deadly combination of cultural paranoia and
easy accessible firearms that is, to some extent, effectively established through rhetorical
techniques of ethos, logos, and pathos. To begin, Moore struggles to appeal to ethos
successfully due to his manipulative methods that raises the audience s skepticism in his
credibility, despite using many strong sources such as his reputation, experience, and the values
of other experts in a desperate attempt to gain the audience s trust. Throughout the documentary,
Moore is able to tactfully utilize his renowned reputation as a filmmaker to ensure that his
audience will believe everything that he presents. By dressing like an average Joe and showing
his own hometown of Flint, Michigan, a gun loving town , Moore is able to portray himself as
the average American citizen who just wants facts and answers from the people. This is
successfully used in the film as Moore seems more reliable to the audience, and makes his
interviewees feel equal to Moore. Moreover, Moore also interviews many credible people who are
able to back

Los Vendidos Sparknotes
A Clash of Social Classes
Los Vendidos, is a one action play written by Luis Valdez. It compares the Hispanic population
using stereotypical characters who are currently on sale at a Used Mexican Lot. It takes place in
California in 1967 in a dense Mexican population. Politics and culture collide together. The Hispanic
population comes to the United States to increase their wealth. This play demonstrates how
Mexican Americans have struggled to find their identity and equality in the United States. (CLC)
Stereotypes and Marxism plays a role in the play.
Miss. Jimenez is the protagonist in the play. She is the secretary that works for Governor Reagan s
office. She oversees finding a Mexican American for the administration. The Mexican American is
needed to help promote business and votes from the Hispanic population. The secretary is Hispanic
herself, but tries to hide her identity. This is shown when the salesman, Honest Sancho, pronounces
her name the correct way and she has a quick response, Don t you speak English? What s wrong
with you? (Vendidos) She doesn t want her name associated with the Mexican culture. Stereotype is
shown when the secretary only wants the Mexican American. She has difficulty with social identity
by rejecting her own culture.
The secretary and the other Hispanic figures have the same culture. Since Miss. Jimenez is
rejecting her own culture and appearing as an American, there is difference between social classes.
This falls under Marxism

How Does Hitchcock Create Suspense
Hitchcock s exploration of isolating behaviors extends beyond his guarded, prying protagonist.
The director emphasizes on the separation between the people by visually confining them to their
own spaces. The utilization of a Greenwich Village apartment is to represent the physical an
emotional distance between Jeff and his suspicious neighbors. This is seen in the scene when Jeff
changes from his binoculars to his long lens cameras, symbolizing the idea that Jeff will always be
this far from the community and ever any closer. A phallic symbol, t links this need for distance
and power to his sense of masculinity. Throughout the film, the auteur endorses the mundane

that the dog was friendly to everyone while the human beings in the courtyard are generally

Reflection About My Untold Story
My Untold Story was about Abby Stein, activist, blogger, educator, student and a woman living
trans experience who grew up in Brooklyn, NY from an Ultra Orthodox Jewish community. This
Yiddish speaking ultra orthodox religion has minimal contact with the non Jewish world and
very limited access to technology. Assigned male gender at birth and as a rabbi in this
community, Abby married at 18 years old with the marriage producing two children. Abby left
her community to explore alternative views and came out as transgendered a few years later.
Using her experiences and knowledge Abby blogs about social justice issues related to oppressive
practices with the hope of supporting others from orthodox religions to become themselves while
highlighting the need for systemic changes. The areas that furthered my learning through the posts
by others about my Untold Story and by my interaction on a classmate s Untold Story included
how different theories and perspectives that I learned about in SOWK 304 could be implemented
to assess Abby s story. My learning included how the Social Determinants of Health can influence
a person s environment and coping, both positively and negatively. As well as how marginalized
individuals may be supported through Ally education and be very effective advocators for social
justice issues. These teachings have both personal and professional implications that can be used on
a micro, mezzo and macro level. Theories and perspectives that were highlighted

Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats (SWOT) analysis is a useful technique for
understanding the organization s strengths and weaknesses and for identifying both the
opportunities open to the organization and the threats it faces (Manktelow, 2015). A human

human resources functions within your organization (Goodrich, 2015). The following is a SWOT
analysis of the human resources department of Texoma Medical Center in Denison, Texas. (See

1)THE NEMEAN LION
Heracles was commanded by Eurystheus to bring to him the hide of the Nemean Lion. The lion
had been terrorizing the valley of Nemea. The lion was a monstrous offspring of Echidna and one
of Orthus or Typhoeus, or had plunged from the moon (Selene) to the earth.
Heracles used his bow and arrows to shoot the lion, but he noticed the arrows could not penetrate
its pelt. Thereby, he attacked it with his clubs causing the lion to run into a cave that had two
entrances. Hercules blocked one entrance, he then wrestled with the lion and strangled it.
Following this, he proceeded to skin it and wrapped himself in its skin after offering a sacrifice to

After Heracles successfully chopping off the immortal head and blocking it he dipped his arrows
in its poisonous blood. Anyone wounded by these arrows would die. Furthermore, he buried the

Despite Heracles completing this labor, Eurystheus denied to give him credit due to the fact that he
was helped by Iolaus to accomplish the feat.
3)THE HIND OF CERYNEIA
On Heracles third labor he was ordered to capture the Cerynitian Hind alive. The nymph Taygette
had devoted the hind to the goddess Artemis, the hind lived in the Sanctuary of Artemis on mount
Cerynea.
The hind was a deer with golden antlers and brass hoofs roaming the hills of Cerynea between
Arcadia and Achaea in central Peloponnesus. Heracles had expected to capture it unharmed
because it was sacred. Heracles pursued the hind for almost a year, when he finally managed to
capture the animal on the river banks of Ladon after chasing it as far as the land of Hyperboreans.
Heracles was returning to Tiryns with the deer on his shoulders. He then met Artemis and Apollo.
Artemis rebuked him but let him pass upon insistence that the blame should be placed on
Eurystheus. 4)THE ERYMANTHEAN BOAR

The Bedouins, a pastoral society based people, dominated pre Islamic Arabia, and had a culture
centralized around clan life. One of the defining characteristics of this time in Arabia was the
respect and importance of women, due to the frequent absence of men. With the beginning of Islam
in 622 CE, women continued to receive that respect, along with more legal rights, such as the right
to divorce. However patriarchy still played a part throughout both time periods.
In 550 B.C.E, before Islam was developed in the Arabian Peninsula, it was under the Bedouins rule
which gave women who lived there little to no rights regarding marriage and inheritance. Towns

increase of other animal populations allowed the growth of NeolithicArt referred to as the New

similar techniques. For example, both regions had figurines, but they had a different aspect
pertaining to their culture of art. Also they both painted animals, but the style and type of animals
differed because of the region. However, most of the painting,

Violence, Religion, Or Past Experiences
Culture violence intersect in many different situations both through direct and indirect contact. The
two can be observed in multiple settings but I am going to focus on the violence that occurs within
Intimate Relationships, particularly between a man and woman, and how women assume the role
of the submissive partner. I will talk about how different cultural feelings, religions and exposure to
intimate partner violencecan be an example of culture and violence intersecting by observing the
threatening interactions in a violent relationship. This includes violence in societies such as New
Zealand which is heavily frowned upon, to other parts of the world where violence is encouraged.
Men Women with different cultures and upbringings will all have a different stances on what
forms of abuse is okay and not okay. When a woman is in a violent relationship, regarding physical
and domestic violence, there are a number of reasons as to why she may or may not stay in the
relationship. Reasons for staying may be fear, religion, or past experiences.
In different parts of the world it would be seen as a selfish for a woman or mother to go out and
pursue her desired career path. Because it is expected that she should be a homemaker and raise
the children as her job. These feelings can be fueled by what some societies think the correct
expectations are for the role of a Mother . For a long time now there has been the misconception in
many cultures that women should sacrifice

Karl Popper And The Scientific Method
Karl Popper is commonly regarded as one of the greatest philosophers of science in the 20th
Century. He is well known for his rejection of the inductivist viewpoint of the scientific method, in
which one uses observation to propose a law to generalize an observed pattern, and later confirm
that law through more observation. Popper states that induction cannot be logically justified
(Popper 14). Inductivism relies on the process of inductive reasoningwhich is a logical process in
which multiple premises, all thought to be true and found to be true most of the time, are
combined to obtain a conclusion and in many cases formulate a law or theory. Popper rejected the
inductivist viewpoint in favor of a theory called empirical falsification which holds that a theory
can never be proven, but it can be falsified, and therefore it can and needs to be scrutinized through
experimentation.
In his work Conjectures and Refutations, Popper discussed several aspects of induction including
the topics of conjectures (opinions or conclusions formed on the basis of incomplete information)
or tentative theories and refutations (ways to refute an argument, opinion, testimony, doctrine, or
theory, through contradicting evidence) or the acts of disproving arguments through
counterexamples (Oxford).
Popper opines that a significant problem with the scientific method is that scientists get so caught
up in evidence that supports a specific conjecture that they either 1) fail to consider

Men will identify with Stan, because as a hyper masculinized person, he represents how a
stereotypical male should be. This is also in line with narcissistic voyeurism, because as a man,
one might identify with the primary character, because one sees oneself in Stan s character. Stan
is portrayed as a competitive, goal oriented, authoritative and active male which matched
Mulvey s description of how masculinity is recognized. Since this is very evident in the show, it
also points to patriarchal norms which show Stan as the leader of the household while Francine
is always waiting around to serve him. In one example in this episode, the family is sitting down
to dinner. Since it is Wednesday, it was meant to be leftover night. However, Francine wanted to
switch it up and made lasagna instead. Stan gets very angry and declares that there will be no
dinner that evening because it was leftover night, not lasagna night. This drives Francine to have
to follow her husband s instructions instead of doing things for herself. It portrayed Stan as in
charge of the family, and showed that what the dominant male wanted was what the dominant
male, as well as everyone else, was going to get. These patriarchal norms are exactly what
Francine is trying to escape from when she tries to join the Ladybugs. However, the episode
resolves without ever talking about how Stan is always in control, and instead they go back to the

Restorative Justice In America
Introduction In the utilitarian justice system of America, the idea of restorative justice is far
fetched. American culture is tainted by the mentality of revenge, and this is the reason why most
crimes are met with severe punishment. Restorative justice tries to examine how formal criminal
justice processing effects the victimand the offender (Braswell et al., 2015). According to
broadcast and print journalist Molly Rowan Leach, most people feel that this type of justice tries to
force the victim to forgive the offender, but this is not its main premise (Leach, 2013). The purpose
of restorative justiceis to compensate for the suffering of the victim, and punish the offender in a

Prior to the Truth and Reconciliation hearing, the relationship between Alex Mpondo and James
Sizela was strained. But, as events proceeded throughout the hearing, Alex Mpondo helped the

Afterwards, Alex Mpondo wanted Mr. and Mrs. Sizela to forgive him. Since the Sizela s were
grateful that Alex Mpondo helped them to find their son, they forgave him and their relationship
was repaired. Restorative justice played a key role in this portion of the movie, because one of
the main elements of it is honesty. Telling the truth, is the first step for some offenders to begin
making improvements for themselves and the victim. Alex Mpondo lost so much after he

Mpondo also experienced trauma and guilt throughout the movie that would take an extended

Key Ideas In The Film The Killing Fields
What is the main idea of The Killing Fields ? In the film The Killing Fields , there are lots of key
ideas, which make the film watchable and likeable. One of the key ideas of The Killing Fields
is the development of the friendship between, Dith Pran and Sydney Shanberg. Another key idea,
in the film, is survival. Survival was an important factor for Pran as he was captured, and was

Shanberg is experiencing lots of horrific things, right beside Pran and no matter what happens,
they stick together, through it all. When Shanberg found out the American embassy was going to

how strong their friendship is, was when the American Embassy was evacuated, despite all the

together. Again showing how strong Shanberg and Pran s friendship is. Another major example to

Computerized Technology Influenced The Stage And Lighting...
Question: To what extent has the advancement of computerized technology influenced the stage
and lighting design of theatre Introduction: Theatre has come a long way from when it first
started with regard to the set designs of the plays and musicals. When the sets were first
designed the props would either stay on the stage as a permanent structure the whole time or you
needed to have the stage crew come out and move the props and scenery. Now with the
advancement of technology you can program a computer to move the objects and scenery on the
stage instead of having people move each of the objects. This helps to give the plays more of a
realist feeling because the play feels like it flows like life does without the interruption of people
coming out to change the stage or having to use ropes to move the set. Two men that have lived
through and worked as the times are changing are Bob Crowley and Tony Walton. These two
men are both current set designers and they have both lived through the transition from having
people move the set to now having it controlled by computers. Both of these men have designed
numerous shows and have won countless awards for their outstanding work at designing the set
for every play they do. Background information: Bob crowley was Born in Cork, Ireland. He
trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. He has designed over 20 productions for the
National Theatre. He has also designed numerous productions for the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Stereotypes In Stand And Deliver By Jaime Escalante
The movie Stand and Deliver (1988) begins with a character driving in an urban neighborhood as an
introduction to the setting of the film. The various shots of the setting that are presented between
cuts to the streets and to the intrigued face of the protagonist, Jaime Escalante, help provide the
viewer context to this neighborhood s economic and cultural background. This movie directed by
RamГіn MenГ©ndez dramatizes actual events into a movie with the idea of combating stereotypes
enforced upon low income Latinos and presenting a success story with the use of different Latino
characters with their own unique conflicts. Angel Guzman is a Chicano gang member that holds an
inner struggle between following the easy predetermined path ... Show more content on

Latinos are portrayed in media as having to fight a large variety of forces and this film attempts
to document a couple of these through their characters. Guadalupe Molina, struggles to take care
of her brothers and sisters while her parents work; Ana Delgado, is pressured to drop out of
school to begin working in her family business; Claudia Camejo; is discouraged to pursue
Calculus by her mother because boys don t like you if you re too smart ; and Pancho is
encouraged to drop out of school to work as a mechanic for what he believes is a reasonable
wage. The AP Calculus gives the students hope to enter college, evidenced by a scene in which
Angel brings his sick grandma to Mr. Escalante s house on Christmas to ask him for another
chance to be in the class. He tells Mr. Escalante, I need Calculus to get me to a good career
Johnny. The film uses a variety of examples of adversity in attempt to make this story seem more
inspirational but the characters in this film are not given more personal characteristics and simply
identifiable by their struggles. The audience does not know about their likes or dislikes, or a lot
about their personalities. They are a diverse Latino cast but their usage as people that just need to
be saved does not give these

Design An Auv At Record The Lives Of Deep Sea Organisms
To: Professor Martin, WTSN 104, Section 57 From: Ryan O Connell Date: February 7, 2015 Re:
Research Paper #1 Problem Statement: Design an AUV to record the lives of deep sea organisms.
Introduction: AUV s are improving and technologically advancing to allow scientists and deep sea
researchers to explore the vast unknown of the underwater world. AUV s are automated underwater
vehicles that can explore bodies of water without the influence of an external control source.
Although AUV s have made much progression in the engineering world our research shows that
they still need improving. The engineering element is not the only aspect that goes into making
AUV s, but also comes with a variety of other factors including the region in which... Show more

The large scale system of currents that carry large bodies of water globally throughout the world
is a major factor that has to be considered when the construction of an AUV is in effect. This
enormous system of currents is known as the global conveyor belt . Not only is the global
conveyor belt a huge importance to bear in mind, but also in which part of the global conveyor
belt will the AUV be exploring. The global conveyor belt is greatly affected by the thermocline
layer of the ocean. The thermocline layer of the ocean is between the deep water layer of the
ocean and the mixed water layer, which lies at the top of the sea near the surface. Based on which
layer of the ocean the water is in can induce many different properties such as temperature and
density and can influence different components of the global conveyor belt. Although the
thermocline layer of the ocean is a huge influence on the way the global conveyor belt flows, there
are many other factors that contribute to the natural movement of the large scale currents
(University of Illinois, 2010, n.p.). This widespread system of currents starts its cycle all the way
up in the North Atlantic near the North Pole. In the beginning of its cycle the water begins on the
surface of the ocean and is low in temperature due to the freezing conditions in the Northern

Compare Disabled And An Unknown Girl
How do Disabled and An Unknown Girl convey the sense of personal identity?
Our personal identity shapes who we are or shall become, it is how a person sees them self,
fitting into their surroundings. Both Owen and Alvi explore the unpredictable personal identity of
a person and how it changes their lives for the worse in their poems Disabled and An Unknown
Girl. The former poem, filled with pathos, demonstrates a soldier s joyful life prior to and after
WWI where he suffered a devastating tragedy, losing all his limbs, emphasizing his deformed
personal identity throughout the poem. The latter, however, depicts a cultural visitor experiencing
India in hopes of fulfilling her somewhat incomplete heritage (and thus, personal identity), in which

The persona illustrates his former personal identity in Disabled and the persona in An Unknown
Girl portrays the breathtaking views around her as she imaginatively experiences India. And
girls glanced lovelier as the air grew dim , the persona in Disabled describes; this use of
alliteration indicate that the majority of the persona s identity was made up of his appeal to
women. His face was younger than his youth reveals a young man s life with a bright future ahead
of him. The sense of a pleasant past is reinforced when soon, he was drafted out with drums and
cheers which emphasises the joyous idea of joining the war, although naГЇve and fallacious. He
thought of jeweled hilts, for daggers in plaid socks; of smart salutes; and care of arms; and
leave; and pay arrears; Espirit de corps; and hints for young recruits . This list of numerous
optimistic ambitions, irrelevant to the war itself suggests that the persona was deluded by the
glorified image of war. Rather than being aware of the tragic reality, he joined the war selfishly
and out of vanity for even Germans he scarcely thought of . The persona in An Unknown Girl
contributes to the same exciting mood as she exhibits the scenery of India as it becomes a part of
her personal identity. In the evening bazaar, studded with neon portrays the idea of the persona
discovering a new, colourful identity since this is

The Role Of Social Norms In Jerzy Kosinski s
Jerzy Kosinski s novella Being There depicts how social norms affect the socialization of
individuals and displays individuals ability to alter their presentation of self within particular
situations. Kosinski plays with symbolism and the power of names by presenting the character
Chance, who self identifies himself as the gardener, and who acquired his name by being born by
chance. Chance, renamed as Chauncey Gardiner by his peers, has limited social and
communication skills due to being bound to his home with the Old Man, who took him in from
birth. Chance now acting as Chauncey takes on the social role of an upper class, intelligent,
business man, prompting him to be thrown into the world of politics with the elite. Surprisingly,
Chance is able to successfully play the role of Chauncey as he is presented on the public... Show

This miscommunication was caused by Chance s attempt to follow social cues and mirror the
actions he saw depicted on television. Although he did not always understand social situations fully,
Chance s ability to adapt to the change in his social environment is due to the skills and norms he
learned from watching television at the Old Man s home. Despite a few moments of confusion,
Chance acting as Chauncey was able to convince those around him that he was a businessman with
insight on economics, not that he was just faking it. The character Chance takes on the public role
of Chauncey Gardiner in Jerzy Kosinski s novella Being There, showcasing Goffman s
dramaturgical analysis of the social production of the self identity through symbolic character
names, defined situational social roles, and a social and public script, thus resulting in Chance
having two separate identities, a personal and a

The Nature Of Elizabethan Acting
ARTICLE 1
Elizabethan Acting Author(s): Alfred Harbage Source: PMLA, Vol. 54, No. 3 (Sep. 1939), pp. 685
708
The debate over the nature of acting during Shakespeare s time has been there for a long time. As
early as the 1950s there were speculations already of what took place on Elizabethan stages. What
was the nature of Elizabethan acting? There was the controversial discussion that divided people
into two schools of thought; the formalist and the naturalist. The naturalists argue that those early
days were characterized by acting that was natural. Formalist has contrasting views that Elizabethan
acting was formal. A compromise is that Elizabethan acting was a mixture of both formal and
naturalism.
However, Alfred Harbage argues acting was either natural or formal. To determine which style to
look at, he defined and gave examples of the two different styles of acting. He argues that whether
acting is formal or natural, actors must create reality. Acting had to be perfected and their
presentation never changed even with time. Harbage argues that acting may be natural to one
audience but the same could be formal to another audience, that one was a logical alternative to the
other. Alfred Harbage wrote that there are no explicit differences in two styles of acting and the
two could have been present in the Elizabethan period.
He argues that Natural acting strives to create an illusion of reality by consistency on the part of the
actor who remains in character and tends

The Question For Modern Day Society
The first words in Bible are, In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth (Genesis 1:1,
English Standard Version). This statement leaves a question for modern day society. Does this
verse mean God created the universe in six literal days and rest on the seventh? Or could it
possibly mean this was a non literal text that leaves room for the possibility of evolution. Evolution
and Creationismhave been battling over this issue for many years. What must be realized before
examining these two theories is the fact that both require faith. Requiring faith means neither can be
proven right completely. These two theories bring to light the literal and non literal reading of
Genesis 1 and 2. Creationism believes in the literal interpretation of the text, and evolution,
specifically theistic evolution, believes in non literal interpretation. The literal interpretation states
God created everything in six days just as it states which leaves little wiggle room for the non literal
interpretation. However, there is some scientific reasoning and fact that can reinforce their system
of thinking. While a non literal theistic evolutionist approach is a plausible option of the account in
Genesis one, the Creationist s literal interpretation outweighs the non literal because the analysis of
the text agrees with the literal approach and the current scientific evidence, history, and authority of
scripture point to a young earth. The non literal interpretation of the Holy Scripture

Being A Loyalist Essay
As proved today, we should clearly stay under Britain s rule. Let s not forget that being a loyalist
was very risky and unsafe. Whenever someone was a loyalist they were put into danger because
patriots were known to overreact. For example, when Thomas Hutchinson revealed he was a
loyalist, patriots burnt down his house instead of being civilized. Also, you could be imprisoned
by the patriots just for being a loyalist. The patriots felt that being a loyalist was wrong and would
imprison you just for having that opinion. Along with being imprisoned, you had to pay a huge
amount of money to get out. This goes to show that many people were afraid to be loyalists
because of the consequences and how violent the patriots were. This also shows that... Show more

They protested for taxation without representation simply because they didn t want to pay taxes,
and the protests weren t peaceful. One example of their violence is the Boston Tea Partyand The
Boston Massacre. The Boston Massacre wasn t even a massacre despite the name. This was
when some patriots started throwing snowballs at soldiers and the soldiers had to defend
themselves from the patriots, so the patriots were shot. The Boston Tea Party was when a very
small tax was placed on tea and the patriots weren t happy about that. So instead of paying the
very small tax, they went onto the tea ships and dumped the tea into the ocean. The taxes would
overall help us in the end, because they also helped with protection and a better military. For their
protests on Taxation without representation , they were protesting something that wasn t
completely true. Actually, it was false because there was representation. Each colony had
someone that could go to Parliament and speak on the colony s behalf. As for the taxes, they
were placed on all of Britain, not just the colonies, yet the patriots were not satisfied and decided
not to pay the taxes even though they were cheaper than what Britain had to pay. May I remind
you that the taxes were being placed because of the land we have. The patriots want to go to war
again which would not only result in an estimated

As I Lay Dying Quotes
At first, the title seems to focus on Addie. Of the 59 sections, Addie only narrates one section,
and it is filled with stories from the past. She was alive for a quarter of the novel and when she
passed, the Bundrens began the journey to bury her as she wished; however, the farther away from
home they got, the more it seems as if the familywas dying as well. What seems to be rock bottom
from the beginning, quickly dives deeper into a worsened abyss. Addie physically dies, Darl goes
insane, Dewey Dell s innocence dies, Jewel loses both forms of a mother... Faulkner comes at the
reader at every angle with a new death, both literally and figuratively.

Vardaman deals with his mother s death unlike the others, especially compared to Darl s. The
way Darl handled Addie s death led to his insanity, as well as his ability to describe events he

going to die without words, and [Dewey Dell] knew he knew because if he had said he knew
with the words [Dewey Dell] would not have believed that he had been there and saw us (27).
When Dewey Dell talks about Darl s magical narrative capabilities it creates the first connection
to Darl s insanity, and the reality of the lack of attention Darl receives from the rest of his family.

  • 2. Animals in Medical Experiments Essay Animal experimentation has been credited for the medicines made to assist diabetes, vaccines for smallpox, deep brain stimulation for parkinson s disease, and many more along with millions of dollars spent on failed experiments, millions of animal deaths a year, misleading data and an overall bigger loss than gain. The main point of animal testingis to benefit the safety and overall health of humans, but testing on non humans to learn about humans doesn t contribute to the cause. Humans have the voice protective of their own lives and demand rights, though every living creature deserves the right to life and to safety. The way these animals are being treated is heinous and insulting to the humanrace, as it subsides our morals and some... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rats show us that they are of senses and are similar to humans, if they weren t we wouldn t be testing on them, rats aren t less intelligence to other animals; So they deserve rights just as other animals. Animal testing models live generally deplorable and very restricted. These animals are deprived of social interaction and proper living environments their entire lives. This often causes odd behaviors that could very well interfere with every experiment. For example large Rhesus monkeys are kept in two feet by three feet cages and they developed abnormal neurotic behavior, such extreme conditions make the animal s text results very questionable. (Fox) Scientists ignore the animal s stuffing and call it adaptive because it is due to their unfitting environments. Scientists also put aside their mental, emotional, psychological and social suffering and it s significance on their projects. There are laws against the cruelty against animals that live in our homes but an animal bred to test on has almost no safety rights; rats and mice have none at all. These specimens are burned, cut open, shocked, poisoned, socially isolated, starved, dehydrated, forcibly restrained, addicted to drugs, brain damaged, given birth defects, and killed in various pointless experiments(Chanda). • 3. Shoe Line Named Violette By Terry Richardson In 2008 Vashtie took a legendary step into the fashion by creating her own now well known clothing line named Violette. With an official debut in Fall 2008, the clothing was said to be inspired by a mix of opposite worlds: uptown and downtown, hip hop and rock, feminine and masculine, casual and couture . Vibe listed the 31 Most Stylish People Under 31 with Vashtie coming in at the 23rd spot among names like Kanye West, Rihanna and Justin Timberlake (Monae 2015). She was also featured in Nylon Magazine as part of their lineup of It Girls . In this same year Vashtie interviewed Sean Diddy Combs for Supreme Magazine, which was photographed by Terry Richardson, and was included in the NikeDestroyer Campaign alongside notables like Dee Ricky, a twin fashion icon duo, and Scott Campbell a New York based American artist and tattoo artist whose clients include Sting, Robert Downey, Jr., Courtney Love, Orlando Bloom, Josh Hartnett, and Marc Jacobs. Vashtie s approach incorporates a core sensibility that marries the cosmopolitan to an unhinged street aesthetic, which is why Time Out New York once named her Most Stylish New Yorker. She challenges the boundaries of gender, beauty, and individuality embodied by the aesthetic of her brand Violette. Violette is carried in select boutiques, including Colette in Paris. The distinctive flair found in her designs for Violette has served as a platform for partnerships with brands. In 2010, Vashtie became the first woman to design ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Charles Darrow Monopoly Monopoly Monopoly has been around for 80 years and was created by a man names Charles Darrow in 1933. Even though it became a success it took a while, Darrow tried to sell monopoly to parker brothers, but it was rejected for 52 fundamental errors . Darrow decided to go ahead and start selling the Game in local department stores. After his success Parker brothers reconsidered and negotiated the rights to market the game. The game has become such a huge hit that is published in 47 languages and sold in 114 countries, and fans gather every few years to compete in a world championship tournament. In the next few paragraphs I am going to teach you how to play this familyfavorite game since 1935. Games of monopoly have been played in peculiar... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Place your token in the corner marked GO, then throw the dice, the number that you get is the amount of spaces that you move. After the first player is done with their turn, the turn passes to the person to the left of them. When you land on a property space you have the option to buy the property, pay rent, or pay taxes. If you land on a chance or community chest space, you have to draw a card. If you throw doubles you take your turn as you normally would and then you get another turn, but if you throw doubles three times in a row you have to immediately go to jail. When a player passes go they collect $200 from the bank, it doesn t matter if you roll the dice and pass it or if you draw a chance or community chest card that tells you to pass it. You can only collect $200 once each time around the board. The only exception to collect again after you pass GO in one turn is if you land on a community chest or a chance and it tells you to pass go again, then you collect for both times you have passed. Monopoly is such an in depth game that there is not a time limit set for it, which is one of the reasons that it originally got rejected by Parker Brothers. They wanted Darrow to meet the 45 minute game rule. Parker also thought that the game should have a specific end, a goal to reach and in monopoly the players just keep going round and round the board. The only object of the game is to bankrupt the other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, religious practices of the community would not be the same without the democratizing of the religion in Nicaragua. The revolution which overthrew the president at the time also caused a conflict between the popular church at the time and the church hierarchy, but it was worth the conflict. Religious freedom has been protected by their constitution since 1939, this is not an unusual occurrence. There is a numerous amount of different religions such as Jewish, Muslim, Mormon, Mennonites, Jehovah s Witness, Baha is, Evangelical, Moravian , and more. No matter the number of religions, the Indigenous people on the coast are allowed their own practices and beliefs. Though the people are varied, the government does seem to favor the Roman Catholic religion. In no way does it seem to interfere in government affairs, though it might be viewed that way. People trust the Catholic bishops in coming to important state occasions. Whatever the bishops may say in the matter of national issues they are closely followed. Saints are seen by Nicaraguans as intercessors between god and humans, patron saints are even thrown festivals in which they are paraded through the cities. The Catholic church in general has great historical presence in Nicaragua and the government treats it as so. But sometimes there can be a fall out in religion and government. At this time in fact, the Roman Catholics are attempting to make schools buy religious textbooks. This was not viewed well by the Protestants. Public schools still pursue a system without teaching religion. Private schools however take and teach all religions. Up until the revolution, Nicaragua had the same family in their presidential reign for 43 years. The last family member of this dynasty was Anastasio Somoza Debayle. During his presidency from 1974 1979, there was much uproar between religion and education. When he was removed from office by the FSLN was when people started to put ... A known species of birds brown pelican, white pelican, and laughing gulls were found to be decreased by 800,000. A 2012 study determined that white pelicans that had migrated from the gulf to Minnesota to breed were producing eggs that contained discernible amounts of compounds that were traceable to the BP spill. Eggs containing traces of contaminants were found in Iowa and Illinois as well ( Deepwater Horizon oil spill of 2010 ). Animals that were found alive in the wake of the spill were transported to rehabilitation centres and, after being cleaned and medically evaluated, were released into oil free areas. Concerns about the offspring of sea turtles that nested on the gulf coasts of Alabama and Florida led wildlife officials to dig up thousands of eggs and hatch them in a warehouse for later release on the Atlantic coast. By late 2012 some 1,700 turtles had been found dead. A long term satellite tracking study released in May 2013 showed that the endangered Kemp s ridley sea turtle was likely severely affected, as its preferred foraging territory was within the area damaged by the spill. It was estimated that up to 65,000 imperiled turtles had died during 2010 alone, mostly as a result of oil contamination. It was also estimated that some 300,000 turtles, some of which were originally from breeding populations in other parts of the world, were in the region of the spill when it occurred, leading scientists to point out the global impacts ... • 9. Four Signs Of Groupthink Groupthink is a theory of social interaction involved with methods of group decision making, originally developed by Irving Janis, a social psychologist, in 1972 (Communication Theory). Groupthink was initially described by Janis as the thought processes of people engaged in group decision making with a deep desire to conform to in group members гѓјrequiring extreme loyalty to group values and the exclusion of those deemed part of an out group . In situations when groupthink occurs, the need for members of the group discussion to conform their ideas to those of the group overpowers the individual s need to evaluate group choices critically, whether or not one fully agrees or supports an alternative answer (Psychology Today). The first of these signs of groupthink named Out , due to the nature of the phenomenon, arises when people disagree with majority consensus receive accusations of doing so purposefully, resulting in conflict from the argumentative nature of the situation (Janis). This ties into the Direct Pressure on Dissenters trait, which details how group members will threaten/ put pressure on those expressing opposition to majority opinion to persuade them not to contradict the expectations of the group. This then leads into the next phenomenon of groupthink called Self Censorship . Self Censorship, produced by pressures to conform, explains that, when a member believes they are the only person who has a certain belief, they self censor for fear of being outcast from the group. Instead of speaking out, they keep their thoughts hidden from othersгѓјnot wanting to be a dissenter or seen as disagreeable. A conflict occurs when the agents pursue acceptable levels of shareholder wealth and profit rather than a maximization of profit. They are pursuing their own self interests. One way that the agents act in their own self interests would be by focusing on long term job security. This could cause the agents to limit the amount of risk taken by the firm. A company has to find a way to achieve a balance between rewarding managers to the point that it is detrimental to the company and finding a way to maximize the wealth of the shareholders. 6. The goal of shareholder wealth maximization model is to maximize the return to shareholders, and it is measured by the value of the firm s common stock. It is also concerned with minimizing the risk to the shareholders bonuses. The model looks at the present value of all expected future cash flows (McGuigan, Moyer, Harris, 2011, p.8). a) New foreign competitors: This has the potential to decrease the value of the firm and could impact the future cash flows of a company. The introduction of competition in the marketplace can affect the profitability of a company. The level of the decrease in value would depend on the involvement of the firm in global markets and the level of competition. b) Strict pollution control: This has the potential to decrease the value of the firm if the firm cannot adapt to the changes in requirements. If the firm allows the stricter requirements to hamper production, then the value of the firm would decrease. However, if the firm has planned for this threat by having flexibility when making business plans or creating new technology to take advantage of the Go Green movement, then there is an opportunity to increase the value ... • 17. Sonia Sotomayor s Book About Her Life And Her Climb From... Sonia Sotomayor s book is about her life and her climb from the streets of New York to the place that she is today. Her book explains the challenges that she faced growing up, losing her father at such a young age and working hard to accomplish the great achievements that she has accomplished today. She explains how her upbringing affected how she turned out in life. She explains what it takes for a woman of a Latino origin to sit on the bench, and she explains her reasoning. Sonia shows how she used what she has learnt from her past experiences and how she applied these lessons to the new situations she faced in her life. The book is distributed all over the United States and inspired more and more Latinos every day. In this way, she has helped them by giving them an inspirational story that will be told for years to come, and she will be remembered for much more than her book. When Sonia Sotomayor was 7 years old, she was hospitalized with diabetes and she had to learn how to give herself insulin shots by practicing on an orange. At home, her mother showed her how to light the stove with a match, and together they would fill a pot with water to disinfect the syringe and needle. Sonia was taught to wait for the water to boil and then to wait five minutes more. The daily shots became her way of avoiding conflict between her parents. • 18. Analysis Of The Book I Am At the beginning of the novel, I am immediately implanted a general impression of McTeague, a clumsily single minded giant, who operates his own dental practice and goes about his daily routine with satisfaction: he would sit at the bay window (1) reading the paper (1) and [gorging] with steam beer (1) and even play regularly on his concertina. Moving his immense limbs (2) slowly and ponderously, McTeague looks like a draught horse, immensely strong, stupid, docile, obedient (3). Worse than that, his mind was as his body, heavy, slow to act, sluggish (2). But thanks to his barbaric mind, he is not saddened by his terrible appearance; instead he feels that his life is quite a success with the dental practice guaranteeing him a stable income, that he could hope for nothing better (3). He is never fed up with his repetitive days, and the only enjoyment in his tedious life probably is to appreciate the panorama of the urban street from his bay window, where the world goes past (6). No matter the various shops or people from all walks of life, from seven o clock in the morning to eleven in the evening, never fail to interest him. Besides that, the other way that could connect McTeague with the outside world is Marcus. Unlike his friend, McTeague is introversive and indifferent to the society and neighborhood, knowing nothing except for his routine. Therefore, he is frequently bewildered by Marcus while listening to his political tirade with admiration; but he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Therefore, stress is a big obstacle in my life, and it is something that I need to find a way to deal with, especially now that I have begun to attend college. Because I have dealt with anxiety before, I have a good idea of my stress level. My stress levels can become very high, and as a result, I have several ways of dealing with stress. As a result, I am familiar with some of the techniques mentioned in the textbook. For example, exercising has always been an effective stress technique for me. As mentioned in the textbook, performing exercises such as running and walking on a regular basis has been an effective way for me to reduce stress. However, the textbook has also introduced me to new techniques to helpmanage my stress, as well as ways to improve techniques I already use. One of these new techniques is eatinghealthy. Prior to reading the text, I never considered that my eating habits would affect my stress levels. However, after reading through the text, I can definitely see how my eating habits and stress levels affect each other. After evaluating my eating habits, I noticed that I do not eat healthy when I am stressed. • 20. Roles Of Women In Aeneus Roles of Women in Virgil s Aeneid and in the Gospel of Luke The women in ancient Roman patriarchal society as seen in Virgil s Aeneid were limited by societal gendered roles and were undervalued by men. Contrastingly, Hebrew women as seen in the Gospel of Luke were viewed as equal to men because both were made in the image and likeness of God. Women were not important in the epic story of the founding of Rome whereas women were crucial in Jesusmission to preach the word of God. This essay will look at the roles of Creusa, Dido, and Lavina in the Aeneid and of Mary, Elizabeth, and Mary Magdalene in the Gospel of Luke. Roman society valued the tradition of law in the hands of the paterfamilias in which the father held absolute power over his wife, children, and slaves. The respect for fathers extended into the community and into politics creating a male dominated society. Women were subordinate to either their father or their husband. Despite their lower position in society, women were still expected to uphold Roman virtues such as pietas, the duty to one s family and country. Pietas for women referred to their duty to their family, especially to their husbands. Once a woman was married, she was expected to act honorably and respectably by remaining chaste and doing nothing else except for her household duties. Roman women were expected to stay out of public life and especially to stay out of politics. Throughout the Aeneid, the hero, Aeneas, had relations with three ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 21. The Silent Pool, The Tell Tale Heart, And Things Fall Apart With many of the texts that were assigned to us, each one dealt with the relationship between insiders and outsiders differently. The insider and outsider relationship varies between both the idea of inner conflict and outside conflict. I will be explaining these relationships from the texts of Gooboora, The Silent Pool, The Tell Tale Heart, and Things Fall Apart. Gooboora, The Silent Pool deals with the relationship of the Aboriginal people of Australia and colonialization, while The Tell Tale Heart deals with an outsider s effect on the main character s subconscious. Things Fall Apart, however, is a mixture of both conflicts that were mentioned. Each of the three texts show how the outside negatively effects the inside. In the poem, Gooboora, The Silent Pool by Oodgeroo Noonuccal, it shows some aspects of the aftermath from colonialism in Australia and how it has affected the Aboriginal people. In Amanda Woods s thesis, she explains that Noonuccal s poems are a means that speak for the Aboriginal people. With Gooboora, The Silent Pool, it talks about the lost images of a pool that is sacred to the Aboriginal people. The aftermath of colonialization has left only a memory for the people. This story was set after dreamtime, or a time before colonialization. She further explains (Woods) Woods s gives a very interesting insight on the poem. • 22. Rhetorical Analysis Of Bowling For Columbine In the 2002 documentary Bowling for Columbine, American political activist and filmmaker Michael Moore sets out to explore the primary causes of the 1999 Columbine Highschool massacre, as well as the roots of gun violence in the United States in his trademark provocative yet satirical manner. Bowling for Columbine takes a deep and often disconcerting investigation into the motives of two Colorado student shooters, responsible for the deaths of over 12 people at Columbine High School on April 20, 1999, and examines other gun related issues as well. From obtaining free guns at a bank, to reviewing America s violent history, and interviewing a variety of people, Moore demonstrates that the conventional answers of violent national history and entertainment, as well as poverty are inadequate of causing this violence, for other nations share the same factors without the same levels of carnage. In order to arrive at a possible explanation, Moore takes on a deeper inspection of America s culture of fear, and violence in a nation with widespread gun ownership. Ultimately, the documentary implies that the high incidence of gun deaths in America is caused by the deadly combination of cultural paranoia and easy accessible firearms that is, to some extent, effectively established through rhetorical techniques of ethos, logos, and pathos. To begin, Moore struggles to appeal to ethos successfully due to his manipulative methods that raises the audience s skepticism in his credibility, despite using many strong sources such as his reputation, experience, and the values of other experts in a desperate attempt to gain the audience s trust. Throughout the documentary, Moore is able to tactfully utilize his renowned reputation as a filmmaker to ensure that his audience will believe everything that he presents. By dressing like an average Joe and showing his own hometown of Flint, Michigan, a gun loving town , Moore is able to portray himself as the average American citizen who just wants facts and answers from the people. This is successfully used in the film as Moore seems more reliable to the audience, and makes his interviewees feel equal to Moore. Moreover, Moore also interviews many credible people who are able to back ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. Karl Popper And The Scientific Method Karl Popper is commonly regarded as one of the greatest philosophers of science in the 20th Century. He is well known for his rejection of the inductivist viewpoint of the scientific method, in which one uses observation to propose a law to generalize an observed pattern, and later confirm that law through more observation. Popper states that induction cannot be logically justified (Popper 14). Inductivism relies on the process of inductive reasoningwhich is a logical process in which multiple premises, all thought to be true and found to be true most of the time, are combined to obtain a conclusion and in many cases formulate a law or theory. Popper rejected the inductivist viewpoint in favor of a theory called empirical falsification which holds that a theory can never be proven, but it can be falsified, and therefore it can and needs to be scrutinized through experimentation. In his work Conjectures and Refutations, Popper discussed several aspects of induction including the topics of conjectures (opinions or conclusions formed on the basis of incomplete information) or tentative theories and refutations (ways to refute an argument, opinion, testimony, doctrine, or theory, through contradicting evidence) or the acts of disproving arguments through counterexamples (Oxford). Stan is portrayed as a competitive, goal oriented, authoritative and active male which matched Mulvey s description of how masculinity is recognized. Since this is very evident in the show, it also points to patriarchal norms which show Stan as the leader of the household while Francine is always waiting around to serve him. • 41. Computerized Technology Influenced The Stage And Lighting... Question: To what extent has the advancement of computerized technology influenced the stage and lighting design of theatre Introduction: Theatre has come a long way from when it first started with regard to the set designs of the plays and musicals. When the sets were first designed the props would either stay on the stage as a permanent structure the whole time or you needed to have the stage crew come out and move the props and scenery. Now with the advancement of technology you can program a computer to move the objects and scenery on the stage instead of having people move each of the objects. This helps to give the plays more of a realist feeling because the play feels like it flows like life does without the interruption of people coming out to change the stage or having to use ropes to move the set. Two men that have lived through and worked as the times are changing are Bob Crowley and Tony Walton. These two men are both current set designers and they have both lived through the transition from having people move the set to now having it controlled by computers. Both of these men have designed numerous shows and have won countless awards for their outstanding work at designing the set for every play they do. Background information: Bob crowley was Born in Cork, Ireland. He trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. He has designed over 20 productions for the National Theatre. • 42. Stereotypes In Stand And Deliver By Jaime Escalante The movie Stand and Deliver (1988) begins with a character driving in an urban neighborhood as an introduction to the setting of the film. The various shots of the setting that are presented between cuts to the streets and to the intrigued face of the protagonist, Jaime Escalante, help provide the viewer context to this neighborhood s economic and cultural background. This movie directed by RamГіn MenГ©ndez dramatizes actual events into a movie with the idea of combating stereotypes enforced upon low income Latinos and presenting a success story with the use of different Latino characters with their own unique conflicts. Guadalupe Molina, struggles to take care of her brothers and sisters while her parents work; Ana Delgado, is pressured to drop out of school to begin working in her family business; Claudia Camejo; is discouraged to pursue Calculus by her mother because boys don t like you if you re too smart ; and Pancho is encouraged to drop out of school to work as a mechanic for what he believes is a reasonable wage. The AP Calculus gives the students hope to enter college, evidenced by a scene in which Angel brings his sick grandma to Mr. Escalante s house on Christmas to ask him for another chance to be in the class. He tells Mr. Escalante, I need Calculus to get me to a good career Johnny. The film uses a variety of examples of adversity in attempt to make this story seem more inspirational but the characters in this film are not given more personal characteristics and simply identifiable by their struggles. • 43. Design An Auv At Record The Lives Of Deep Sea Organisms To: Professor Martin, WTSN 104, Section 57 From: Ryan O Connell Date: February 7, 2015 Re: Research Paper #1 Problem Statement: Design an AUV to record the lives of deep sea organisms. Introduction: AUV s are improving and technologically advancing to allow scientists and deep sea researchers to explore the vast unknown of the underwater world. AUV s are automated underwater vehicles that can explore bodies of water without the influence of an external control source. Although AUV s have made much progression in the engineering world our research shows that they still need improving. The engineering element is not the only aspect that goes into making AUV s, but also comes with a variety of other factors including the region in which... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The large scale system of currents that carry large bodies of water globally throughout the world is a major factor that has to be considered when the construction of an AUV is in effect. This enormous system of currents is known as the global conveyor belt . Not only is the global conveyor belt a huge importance to bear in mind, but also in which part of the global conveyor belt will the AUV be exploring. The global conveyor belt is greatly affected by the thermocline layer of the ocean. The thermocline layer of the ocean is between the deep water layer of the ocean and the mixed water layer, which lies at the top of the sea near the surface. Based on which layer of the ocean the water is in can induce many different properties such as temperature and density and can influence different components of the global conveyor belt. Although the thermocline layer of the ocean is a huge influence on the way the global conveyor belt flows, there are many other factors that contribute to the natural movement of the large scale currents (University of Illinois, 2010, n.p.). This widespread system of currents starts its cycle all the way up in the North Atlantic near the North Pole. In the beginning of its cycle the water begins on the surface of the ocean and is low in temperature due to the freezing conditions in the Northern ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Compare Disabled And An Unknown Girl How do Disabled and An Unknown Girl convey the sense of personal identity? Our personal identity shapes who we are or shall become, it is how a person sees them self, fitting into their surroundings. Both Owen and Alvi explore the unpredictable personal identity of a person and how it changes their lives for the worse in their poems Disabled and An Unknown Girl. The former poem, filled with pathos, demonstrates a soldier s joyful life prior to and after WWI where he suffered a devastating tragedy, losing all his limbs, emphasizing his deformed personal identity throughout the poem. The latter, however, depicts a cultural visitor experiencing India in hopes of fulfilling her somewhat incomplete heritage (and thus, personal identity), in which ... His face was younger than his youth reveals a young man s life with a bright future ahead of him. The sense of a pleasant past is reinforced when soon, he was drafted out with drums and cheers which emphasises the joyous idea of joining the war, although naГЇve and fallacious. He thought of jeweled hilts, for daggers in plaid socks; of smart salutes; and care of arms; and leave; and pay arrears; Espirit de corps; and hints for young recruits . This list of numerous optimistic ambitions, irrelevant to the war itself suggests that the persona was deluded by the glorified image of war. Rather than being aware of the tragic reality, he joined the war selfishly and out of vanity for even Germans he scarcely thought of . • 47. The Nature Of Elizabethan Acting ARTICLE 1 Elizabethan Acting Author(s): Alfred Harbage Source: PMLA, Vol. 54, No. 3 (Sep. 1939), pp. 685 708 The debate over the nature of acting during Shakespeare s time has been there for a long time. As early as the 1950s there were speculations already of what took place on Elizabethan stages. What was the nature of Elizabethan acting? There was the controversial discussion that divided people into two schools of thought; the formalist and the naturalist. The naturalists argue that those early days were characterized by acting that was natural. Formalist has contrasting views that Elizabethan acting was formal. A compromise is that Elizabethan acting was a mixture of both formal and naturalism. However, Alfred Harbage argues acting was either natural or formal. To determine which style to look at, he defined and gave examples of the two different styles of acting. He argues that whether acting is formal or natural, actors must create reality. Acting had to be perfected and their presentation never changed even with time. Harbage argues that acting may be natural to one audience but the same could be formal to another audience, that one was a logical alternative to the other. Alfred Harbage wrote that there are no explicit differences in two styles of acting and the two could have been present in the Elizabethan period. He argues that Natural acting strives to create an illusion of reality by consistency on the part of the actor who remains in character and tends ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. The Question For Modern Day Society The first words in Bible are, In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth (Genesis 1:1, English Standard Version). This statement leaves a question for modern day society. Does this verse mean God created the universe in six literal days and rest on the seventh? Or could it possibly mean this was a non literal text that leaves room for the possibility of evolution. Evolution and Creationismhave been battling over this issue for many years. What must be realized before examining these two theories is the fact that both require faith. Requiring faith means neither can be proven right completely. These two theories bring to light the literal and non literal reading of Genesis 1 and 2. Creationism believes in the literal interpretation of the text, and evolution, specifically theistic evolution, believes in non literal interpretation. The literal interpretation states God created everything in six days just as it states which leaves little wiggle room for the non literal interpretation. However, there is some scientific reasoning and fact that can reinforce their system of thinking. While a non literal theistic evolutionist approach is a plausible option of the account in Genesis one, the Creationist s literal interpretation outweighs the non literal because the analysis of the text agrees with the literal approach and the current scientific evidence, history, and authority of scripture point to a young earth. The non literal interpretation of the Holy Scripture ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Whenever someone was a loyalist they were put into danger because patriots were known to overreact. For example, when Thomas Hutchinson revealed he was a loyalist, patriots burnt down his house instead of being civilized. Also, you could be imprisoned by the patriots just for being a loyalist. The patriots felt that being a loyalist was wrong and would imprison you just for having that opinion. Along with being imprisoned, you had to pay a huge amount of money to get out. This goes to show that many people were afraid to be loyalists because of the consequences and how violent the patriots were. This also shows that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Boston Tea Party was when a very small tax was placed on tea and the patriots weren t happy about that. So instead of paying the very small tax, they went onto the tea ships and dumped the tea into the ocean. The taxes would overall help us in the end, because they also helped with protection and a better military. Each colony had someone that could go to Parliament and speak on the colony s behalf. As for the taxes, they were placed on all of Britain, not just the colonies, yet the patriots were not satisfied and decided not to pay the taxes even though they were cheaper than what Britain had to pay.
