Global launch of the Healthy Ageing and Prevention Index 2nd wave – alongside...ILC- UK
The Healthy Ageing and Prevention Index is an online tool created by ILC that ranks countries on six metrics including, life span, health span, work span, income, environmental performance, and happiness. The Index helps us understand how well countries have adapted to longevity and inform decision makers on what must be done to maximise the economic benefits that comes with living well for longer.
Alongside the 77th World Health Assembly in Geneva on 28 May 2024, we launched the second version of our Index, allowing us to track progress and give new insights into what needs to be done to keep populations healthier for longer.

Tobacco was first grown by American Indians. Then by the 1600’s it was the
first crop that made money. They only smoke Tobacco for special occasions.
By the 1800’s more people started using tobacco. 1885 was when the first
commercials for tobacco came out. Then by 1881 a guy named james Bonsack
made a cigarette machine. This machine made Cigarettes grow. By the 1900’s
other companies started to make cigarettes. Cigarette smoking became more
popular during WW1 and WW2. In 1964 a surgeon said the nicotine and tar in
cigarettes can cause lung cancer. In 1965 they passed the Cigarette Labeling
and Advertising Act. In the 1980’s, cigarettes were being sold with less tar and
nicotine. By 1984 they made cigarette companies change the warning labels
every 3 months. This was called the Comprehensive Smoking Education Act.

● Tobacco can be smoked in cigars, cigarettes, pipes, and a hookah pen,

● You can also get tobacco in your body by snuff. This is when a powder

● Depressants- slow down the function of the brain and body
● Stimulants- speed up the body
● Hallucinogens- make you see things differently
● Narcotics- relieves pain
● Inhalants- alter effects and results.
● Cannabis- is a hallucinogen, depressant, and stimulant.
● Barbiturates- can slow down or stop breathing
● Antidepressants- Can help with depression but can also have bad side
effects.

7. Harmful effects
● Physical- It can put strain on your heart and you will have a lack of oxygen.
● Mental- Can cause mental addictions and nausea
● Social- People won't hang out with you if you smoke and you may not go to
places because they are non-smoking
● If you buy or sell tobacco and you are under 18 you will receive a
punishment. You will be fined and have to do community service
