This document provides analysis of shots from the opening of the TV show True Detective. In three sentences: The shots show figures of men in suits representing characters of power and success over a city, as well as shots of churches and fires representing possible motives for destruction. One shot shows a man kneeling by a fire near a church. Another shot shows a house exploding, possibly suggesting the character is looking for who caused this. The shots set up mysteries around fires, destruction and different character types who will be working together to solve cases.

2. In this shot here we see a city but with a figure
of a mans face of a close up. What I believe is
that this a person that looks over that city.

3. In this shot we see a man in a suit and a city on the over
half of the man. What this is suggesting is that this
character is suit that is part of the system and has a lot
of power over it. Also the suit he is where is very neat so
this could be suggesting that he is a very organised
character.

4. In this shot here we see a man but the face of him is a
city. I believe this is portraying that he only looks about
city and h0w he can get money. Also you can see that
his suit isn't done up orderly so therefore he my not be
that organised.

5. In this shot here you can see a church. This
could be linked in with religion, this could be a
motive of some sort for a crime.

6. In this shot we get another shot of a man in suit but
this time we see building in the background. This
could be his business that he owns. This links in with
his dress code so it could suggest that the character
is very successful.

7. In this shot we see that I believe to be the church
in the background, also we see a man on his
knees with fire around him. The fire suggests
destruction, the church could be is motive.

8. In this shot we see a man with fire in his face. This
could suggest that he has a destructive personality.
Also you can tell where this man is in society by the
way he is dressed.

9. In this shot here you can see a man and his house
getting exploded. This character maybe looking for
who did this, all of the characters that have fire by
them could be a suspect.

10. In this shot here we see the name of the show, the
colours are very important, the black is suggesting
mystery and the orange colour is meant to be fire
so therefore destruction.

11. In this shot we are introduced to the main characters
and we can tell that they are both very different
characters. One is in a suit and the other isn’t. This is
suggesting the class each one is in and also the
personality of them. But they both have one thing in
common and that is they both want to find out who is
responsible for the fires.
