The nominal group technique (NGT) is a small group process used to generate ideas. It allows equal participation and ensures everyone is heard. Participants silently write down ideas in response to a question, then take turns sharing one idea until all are exhausted. No discussion is allowed during idea generation. Afterward, ideas can be discussed, combined, or clarified, but not evaluated, to build consensus. The NGT is used to produce many creative ideas, especially when some may not otherwise contribute, or when there is controversy.
