10 And he left there and went to the region of Judea and beyond the Jordan, and crowds gathered to him again. And again, as was his custom, he taught them.
2 And Pharisees came up and in order to test him asked, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?” 3 He answered them, “What did Moses command you?” 4 They said, “Moses allowed a man to write a certificate of divorce and to send her away.” 5 And Jesus said to them, “Because of your hardness of heart he wrote you this commandment. 6 But from the beginning of creation, ‘God made them male and female.’ 7 ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife,[a] 8 and the two shall become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two but one flesh. 9 What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.”
10 And in the house the disciples asked him again about this matter. 11 And he said to them, “Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her, 12 and if she divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery.”

Do you ever think about why some people are leaders, whether in high offices such as governors of states, mayors of cities, or executives in large corporations? What about people that are leaders of organizations closer to your local community, like leaders in your church, coaches of sports teams, or leaders in your neighborhood. What about yourself? Are you in a particular position of leadership or have you felt that you should be in a certain position of leadership?
Maybe you haven’t asked these questions. Maybe you have just been living out your life, doing what you think you are supposed to be doing, and not really wondering why you are involved in what you are doing and where you are doing it.
INTRODUCTION
This morning, Friday, May 17, 2019, I was moved to think about my cousin Davie McLaughlin who passed away in December 2004. In recalling memories of Davie and I, I was filled with the happiness of what we had as kids doing things together and what we shared as adults.
Dave passed away as a result of a brain tumor. I was invited by his mother (my Aunt Vi) and his sisters (Kathi and Dori) to prepare the memorial service and speak at the service, along with their pastor. I did so. I visited and talked with the family about Dave and the service. I prepared the order of service and the bulletin. I prepared and gave a message titled, “Davie Took Me Places”. I chose topic because, mostly as kids and then into adulthood, that’s what Davie did. He took me places I would have never thought of or known to go to without him. Our experiences were fun and memorable.
In this writing, I want to share with you the happening that inspired me to write this document and many things that were included in the Memorial Service.
Our 50th High School Reunion for Bishop McDevitt's Class of 1967 was a SMASH HIT. The accolades are OVER THE TOP. We received many great comments and congrats on the entire weekend. Sure you have! Don't be shy. Admit it. I have. As a matter of fact, today, I discovered a job that I have been searching for, searching for a long time. Let me tell you about it.

Our Freedom Gives Us Rights,
But With Rights Comes Responsibility.
So How Do We Use Our Freedom Well?
We need to relearn and/or learn the principles that support the Bill of Rights. We need to do this in light of today's politics so that we can influence and teach others what our founding documents mean.

THE BATTLE THAT RAGES FOR YOUR MIND
WAKE UP WARNING 2019

"I want to talk to you this morning about THE BATTLE THAT RAGES FOR YOUR MIND. And you have to be aware that Satan is coming against this generation in an unprecedented measure.
He is attacking this generation to take the thoughts of God out of the minds of an entire society.
He's doing it through the school system.
He's doing it in our colleges.
He's doing it in the marketplace.
He's doing it in the halls of government.
And he's even doing it in the house of God.
Trying to eradicate everything that comes from the mind of God, to blind an entire generation, to take captives, as many as he can, for the scripture says, he knows that his time is short.
In the Book of Matthew, Chapter 6, verses 5 to 16, Jesus provides us with His instructions on prayer. In those verses, Jesus says 3 times, “When you pray”. Thus, prayer is not an option. It is a requirement, a commandment. Jesus tells us what to do and what not to do when we pray. He starts and ends with what we are not to do, and between those, He tell us what to do. And after that, He tells us that our Father knows what we need.
Introduction: The Purpose of This Document
The mission has been placed before Christians by Jesus Christ, the Messiah, the head of the church, “Go and make disciples”. In doing that, the Christian witness is challenged in many ways. Most often, the challenges come with rebuke, name calling, and other non-sense, especially when trying to discuss political topics in the context of religion in the midst of the 2016 Presidential Election.
With less than one month to the election on November 8, 2016, social media, especially Facebook, is covered with information, some good information, but mostly bad information. Many of the posts are rude, meant to demean and ridicule, meant to say someone is stupid, bigoted, racist, or having a phobia of some kind. That often comes when discussing politics and carrying out The Great Commission. Often, there is no reasonable discussion or debate. It’s what I call, “A Hit and Run”, where someone forwards a picture with some rude words on it to attempt to make a point. When posting, the messenger has nothing to say in his own words. It’s just a shot at someone to say they disagree with a certain position or behavior.
In trying to present the Gospel, to witness The Good News to others, and with having seemingly little in positive results, I have wondered how Jesus would do it. I’ve considered that. At times, when Jesus was approached with a question that was intended to trap Him, He responded with a question that was intended to make a point without getting into the discussion. Sometimes, His question dissipated the ones asking the question. Sometimes, He explained the answer to the people or just His disciples.
I’ve often entered into discussions with people by putting out meaningful comments and basing them on truth. That approach may or may not result in good debate and discussion. Many times, I stay out of certain “attacks” because the messengers are not likely interested in meaningful discussion. They are only interested in jabbing someone with their point to disturb them. And they can do that in a post by hiding behind the social media platform without putting themselves in a face-to-face discussion.

“18 STATEMENTS” IN OUR YEARBOOK
To My Classmates,
Class of 1967 of Bishop McDevitt High School
In preparing for our 50th Class Reunion, we can go to our senior yearbook, Pridwen 1967, to look for what it said about our class; to see if there is something there that spoke to us from 1967. What is found turns out to be quite interesting and profound.
The purpose of a high school yearbook is to highlight all the students, all the faculty, all the special activities during the year, and special accomplishments of students, classes, and organizations. Pridwen 1967 does that.
As we page through Pridwen 1967, we can discover something else that can be understood to be quite unique and quite profound. In our search to discover something spoken by the Class of 1967, we found 18 statements distributed throughout the book.
In a review of those statements, we discover that the 18 statements seem to converge around one main theme of Pridwen 1967 – PEACE – PEACE on Earth and Peace in Individual Hearts. Here is how we can arrive at that conclusion.

It seems that current missionary work requires spending a lot of money, preparing a lot of materials, and traveling to far away places, so that it feels like missionary work. But what was the result they brought back? It's just a lot of photos of activities, fun eating, drinking and some playing games. And then we have to do the same thing next year, never ending. The church once mentioned that a certain missionary would go to the field where she used to work before the end of his life. It seemed that if she had not gone, no one would be willing to go. The reason why these missionary work is so difficult is that no one obeys God’s words, and the Bible is not the main content during missionary work, because in the eyes of those who do not obey God’s words, the Bible is just words and cannot be connected with life, so Reading out God's words is boring because it doesn't have any life experience, so it cannot be connected with human life. I will give a few examples in the hope that this situation can be changed. A375

A True Story

This presentation includes 2 items:
1. A True Story – By James Barbush
I believe that God orchestrates events in our lives to teach us a lesson, to show us
something, to emphasize something. This true story may have more meaning than I have
recognized to date.
I developed a first draft of this writing when the experience was only 24 hours ago.
I published that as soon as I could. Since then, I have further developed the telling of this
story and present that version here.
2. An Article Referenced - Timeline Of Jesus' Final Hours, By Mary Fairchild
As I was pondering what I was going to write concerning our unique experience on
Good Friday, April 3, 2014, I discovered a very good article that lays out the “timeline”
of events from the Last Supper to the Resurrection. Since the article and the true story
deal with specific hours of time, I find it appropriate to present our experience and the
article together. I provide the timeline as presented in the article in this document. You
can find the full article with scripture references here: Timeline Of Jesus' Final Hours.
I hope you find what I have presented here to have value for you.

JESUS DIED
AT THE RIGHT TIME FOR EVERYONE FOR ALL TIME
Good Friday, A Day To Remember, and A Day To Reflect
A True Story
By James Eugene Barbush
April 6, 2015
Every year during Holy Week, I reflect on what happened to Jesus during His Holy Week. This year,
2015, was no different . . . except for one very significant event that happened on this Good Friday,
April 3, 2015.
Our Holy Week in April of 2015 was occurring with the knowledge that after Holy Week, members of
my family and myself were scheduled to attend and testify at the trial of a man who had committed
atrocities over a period of time. In 2013, in the middle of a night in June, the man murdered a
grandmother in her bed in Hershey, PA. After committing that horrific act, the man came to our home in
Linglestown, PA and started a fire in our garage. These 2 horrific acts were the culmination of many
other destructive acts that were committed by this man against numerous victims over a period of years
until 2013. The man was arrested in June 2013, charged, and after a long process, was scheduled for trial
to commence on April 7, 2015. Given the severity of this man’s crimes, the District Attorney’s Office
was prepared to have this man convicted and sentenced to death. The victims who came forth in this
multi-count case, including members of my family, were prepared, not eagerly but dauntingly, to testify at
the trial. Though the trial was awaiting us after Holy Week, we were still walking though our reflections
of events that happened during His Holy Week, over 2,000 years ago.
The morning of Good Friday, April 3, 2015, except for the pending trial, was a reflective one as it has
been every year. I attended a Psalm Sunday Service that spoke of His triumphal entry into Jerusalem.
I watched the depictions of His Holy Week and His Crucifixion on televised movies. I read accounts of
events in the New Testament. I considered the conditions of the world as I reflected on His Holy Week.
Even though the events of His Holy Week were being remembered by many, the current events of our
world, horrific as they are, were still happening, as usual, and being reported constantly – wars, killings,
tragedies; nations rising against nations, wars and rumors of wars, corruption openly displayed, arrogance
greater than I have ever seen; our world in turmoil locally, nationally, and internationally.
Then suddenly, during Our Holy Week, on Our Good Friday, our reflections took a different turn
quite differently than ever before. At 11:10 am, we received a phone call from the District Attorney’s
Office that the man who was going to be tried within days had agreed to plead his case and take an agreed
to sentence, rather than put himself, his family, the victims, and the families of the victims through the
stresses of a trial. This was quite an unexpected turn in the case. The man agreed to plead “no contest”
and agreed to accept a life sentence with no parole, plus 2 consecutive sentences of 10 to 20 years each.
These sentences were to assure that the man would never leave prison until he died.
With this sudden and unexpected change from a trial to a plea, the DA’s Office said that we needed to
be in court on this same day, Our Good Friday, at 1:00 pm. That was less than 2 hours from receiving the
phone call, right in the middle of Our Good Friday. We went to the court house as instructed. After a
period of waiting in a private room in the court house, the hearing where the man’s case would be heard
was scheduled for 3:00 pm on this same day, Our Good Friday. Did you get that? – 3:00 pm on this same
day, Our Good Friday.
Now, consider this. It’s Holy Week, Our Holy Week. It’s Good Friday, Our Good Friday. Christians
are remembering the death of Jesus who was executed on Passover. Jesus was arrested, tried, and
sentenced on that day, His Good Friday. Jesus died a horrible death on that day in a horrific process that
lasted for hours. A process that started with His Arrest during the night after The Last Supper, in the
early morning hours of His Good Friday. A process where He faced Pontius Pilate at 6 am, then went
before Herod, and then was returned to Pontius Pilate around 8 am. A process where he was sentenced to
3. Version Dated April 13, 2015

death which led to His path of carrying a cross to His crucifixion starting around 9 am (the 3rd
hour). The
nailing to His cross, the raising of His cross for all to see, the agony on His cross that lasted for hours,
through the 6th
hour (noon) and to the 9th
hour (3 pm). All culminating in His death on His Good Friday
Now, consider this. We have Jesus, a sinless man, who was tried, sentenced, crucified, and died on His
Good Friday over 2,000 years ago. In contrast, we have one man, a sinner, to be tried, convicted, and
sentenced on Our Good Friday in 2015. That seems to be a unique parallel, does it not? Why? Why has
this happened? I know that alignments like this happen for a reason, a divine appointed reason. I know
that God has a message in this for me and for others. What is that message? Could it be . . . .
We are all sinners. No matter what we do wrong, no matter what the sin, we are all sinners. The
worldly courts judge the acts of criminals. Others judge the our offenses towards them. We judge
ourselves for the sins we commit, and we judge others for their offenses against us and others. Sins, sins
of every type. Sins, some more grievous than others. Sins, which often seem small. No matter “the
size”, they are all sins, offenses to God.
If we stand before the courts of earth, we are judged for the severity of our wrongdoing.
If we stand before the courts of Heaven, we could be judged for our sin.
If we stand before the courts of earth, the victims and their families want justice.
If we stand before the courts of Heaven, we have access to an Advocate who was judged for us.
This man who was in court on this Our Good Friday in April of 2015 received an earthly sentence
that the courts and the victims believed he deserved. Even the man who committed the acts accepted to
receive the sentence imposed upon him.
The Man who was in court on His Good Friday received an earthly sentence that the religious rulers
believed He deserved. The Man, though He did not deserve the sentence, fully accepted the sentence for
those whom He loves.
The Man died for that man who was sentenced to life without parole.
The Man died for all men and accepted the sentence that cost Him His life on this earth.
Everyone has access to The Man who accepted the diverted judgment that was deserved by each of us.
Our Good Friday on April 3, 2015 was an unusual Good Friday for us.
His Good Friday over 2,000 years ago was a most unusual day for Him and for all of us.
As horrific as his crimes are, is the man excused for his crimes against people and society? No. He
has received his sentence and begun his life in prison, and is expected to pay for those crimes until he
departs from this earth.
As horrific as his crimes are, is the man excused from the judgment of his sins against God?
Our prayer is that during his life in prison, he will find his salvation in Christ, such that Christ will be his
advocate before the Father in Heaven on his day of judgment. We pray that His Good Friday will become
his Good Friday. We pray that the 3 pm hearing conducted on Our Good Friday on which that the man
was sentenced will be a turning point in the man’s life, such that when his heart is repentant, he will
forever know the forgiveness of the Father.
