INTRODUCTION
This morning, Friday, May 17, 2019, I was moved to think about my cousin Davie McLaughlin who passed away in December 2004. In recalling memories of Davie and I, I was filled with the happiness of what we had as kids doing things together and what we shared as adults.
Dave passed away as a result of a brain tumor. I was invited by his mother (my Aunt Vi) and his sisters (Kathi and Dori) to prepare the memorial service and speak at the service, along with their pastor. I did so. I visited and talked with the family about Dave and the service. I prepared the order of service and the bulletin. I prepared and gave a message titled, “Davie Took Me Places”. I chose topic because, mostly as kids and then into adulthood, that’s what Davie did. He took me places I would have never thought of or known to go to without him. Our experiences were fun and memorable.
In this writing, I want to share with you the happening that inspired me to write this document and many things that were included in the Memorial Service.

Grace McGeown, a high school senior from Bridgewater, New Jersey, began fundraising to help girls in Gulu, Uganda receive a secondary education. She was inspired after learning many Ugandan girls had been abducted and used as sex slaves. While secondary education is theoretically free in Uganda, fees for tuition, uniforms and supplies prevent many non-privileged girls from attending. McGeown raised $2,710 that will allow four Ugandan girls to attend Sacred Heart Secondary School for four years. Her efforts showed the importance of education and helped empower girls in Uganda.

The Personal Testimony of James Eugene Barbush, April 21, 2021JAMES EUGENE BARBUSH
James struggled for years trying to change through the Catholic Church but found no lasting change. He began reading the Bible on his own and attending a Methodist church where he heard the Gospel message. This led him to accept Jesus Christ as his savior, realizing his salvation was an event not a process. He was married in the Methodist church and has since pursued Bible study and serving God.
James struggled for years trying to change through the Catholic Church but kept sinning. He began reading the Bible on his own and attending a Methodist church, where he heard the Gospel message and began to understand salvation. Though he didn't have a clear moment of conversion, Marianna's testimony helped him realize it likely occurred in 1977-1978 at a Christian dinner. James now understands salvation is an event, not a process, and he has grown in his faith since that time.

Who Are We?
Where Have We Come From?
Why Are We Here?
Where Are We Going To?
A Generation!
A Heritage!
A Purpose!
A Destiny!
Do you ever think about why some people are leaders, whether in high offices such as governors of states, mayors of cities, or executives in large corporations? What about people that are leaders of organizations closer to your local community, like leaders in your church, coaches of sports teams, or leaders in your neighborhood. What about yourself? Are you in a particular position of leadership or have you felt that you should be in a certain position of leadership?
Maybe you haven’t asked these questions. Maybe you have just been living out your life, doing what you think you are supposed to be doing, and not really wondering why you are involved in what you are doing and where you are doing it.
Our 50th High School Reunion for Bishop McDevitt's Class of 1967 was a SMASH HIT. The accolades are OVER THE TOP. We received many great comments and congrats on the entire weekend. Facebook was lit up before and after the reunion weekend. Our gatherings after the reunion have a new energy and appreciation for one another.
Have you ever looked for that certain job, opportunity, house, or car that was going to be exactly what you wanted, that was going to be the place where you wanted to be, that was going to provide the money and the satisfaction that you were looking for? Sure you have! Don't be shy. Admit it. I have. As a matter of fact, today, I discovered a job that I have been searching for, searching for a long time. Let me tell you about it.
YOUnited States of America - Understanding The Bill of RightsJAMES EUGENE BARBUSH
This document contains a transcript of a message by Andy Stanley titled "YOUnited States of America" discussing the Bill of Rights. Stanley summarizes the first 10 amendments of the Bill of Rights and explains that the founding fathers assumed a level of moral responsibility among citizens that would govern the exercise of individual rights, as there is no explicit "Bill of Responsibility." He highlights three assumptions of the founders: a consensus of conscience on right and wrong, a consensus around divine accountability, and concern for other individuals when exercising individual rights.
"I'm going to be preaching on the subject Christianity and Socialism. I don't know in all these years that I preached a message quite like this one but today I'm delivering a message on one of the important conversations and confrontations really in our culture in that regard Socialism."
THE BATTLE THAT RAGES FOR YOUR MIND
WAKE UP WARNING 2019
Message by Pastor Carter Conlon,
Spoken on March 8, 2015
Spoken at Times Square Church, New York City
Publshed on YouTube January 2019
Transcribed by James E. Barbush
"I want to talk to you this morning about THE BATTLE THAT RAGES FOR YOUR MIND. And you have to be aware that Satan is coming against this generation in an unprecedented measure.
He is attacking this generation to take the thoughts of God out of the minds of an entire society.
He's doing it through the school system.
He's doing it in our colleges.
He's doing it in the marketplace.
He's doing it in the halls of government.
And he's even doing it in the house of God.
Trying to eradicate everything that comes from the mind of God, to blind an entire generation, to take captives, as many as he can, for the scripture says, he knows that his time is short.
In the Book of Matthew, Chapter 6, verses 5 to 16, Jesus provides us with His instructions on prayer. In those verses, Jesus says 3 times, “When you pray”. Thus, prayer is not an option. It is a requirement, a commandment. Jesus tells us what to do and what not to do when we pray. He starts and ends with what we are not to do, and between those, He tell us what to do. And after that, He tells us that our Father knows what we need.

Introduction: The Purpose of This Document
The mission has been placed before Christians by Jesus Christ, the Messiah, the head of the church, “Go and make disciples”. In doing that, the Christian witness is challenged in many ways. Most often, the challenges come with rebuke, name calling, and other non-sense, especially when trying to discuss political topics in the context of religion in the midst of the 2016 Presidential Election.
With less than one month to the election on November 8, 2016, social media, especially Facebook, is covered with information, some good information, but mostly bad information. Many of the posts are rude, meant to demean and ridicule, meant to say someone is stupid, bigoted, racist, or having a phobia of some kind. That often comes when discussing politics and carrying out The Great Commission. Often, there is no reasonable discussion or debate. It’s what I call, “A Hit and Run”, where someone forwards a picture with some rude words on it to attempt to make a point. When posting, the messenger has nothing to say in his own words. It’s just a shot at someone to say they disagree with a certain position or behavior.
In trying to present the Gospel, to witness The Good News to others, and with having seemingly little in positive results, I have wondered how Jesus would do it. I’ve considered that. At times, when Jesus was approached with a question that was intended to trap Him, He responded with a question that was intended to make a point without getting into the discussion. Sometimes, His question dissipated the ones asking the question. Sometimes, He explained the answer to the people or just His disciples.
I’ve often entered into discussions with people by putting out meaningful comments and basing them on truth. That approach may or may not result in good debate and discussion. Many times, I stay out of certain “attacks” because the messengers are not likely interested in meaningful discussion. They are only interested in jabbing someone with their point to disturb them. And they can do that in a post by hiding behind the social media platform without putting themselves in a face-to-face discussion.

To My Classmates,
Class of 1967 of Bishop McDevitt High School
In preparing for our 50th Class Reunion, we can go to our senior yearbook, Pridwen 1967, to look for what it said about our class; to see if there is something there that spoke to us from 1967. What is found turns out to be quite interesting and profound.
The purpose of a high school yearbook is to highlight all the students, all the faculty, all the special activities during the year, and special accomplishments of students, classes, and organizations. Pridwen 1967 does that.
As we page through Pridwen 1967, we can discover something else that can be understood to be quite unique and quite profound. In our search to discover something spoken by the Class of 1967, we found 18 statements distributed throughout the book.
In a review of those statements, we discover that the 18 statements seem to converge around one main theme of Pridwen 1967 – PEACE – PEACE on Earth and Peace in Individual Hearts. Here is how we can arrive at that conclusion.
1) God created the heavens and the earth over six days, forming the land and seas, plants and animals, and finally man and woman.
2) God placed the first man and woman in the Garden of Eden but warned them not to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
3) The serpent deceived the woman into eating the forbidden fruit, which she also gave to the man. As a result, God cursed the serpent and mankind, banishing them from the garden.

GOD’s MYSTERIOUS PLAN IS REVEALED
This message was kept secret for centuries and generations past, but now this message has been revealed to God’s people. For God wanted His people to know that
the riches and glory of Christ are for you Gentiles, too.
And this is the secret:
Christ lives in you. This gives you assurance of sharing His glory. God’s mysterious plan, which is Christ Himself. In Him lie hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
Do you remember the 1991 movie, “City Slickers”? Billy Crystal played a character named “Mitch”, and Jack Palance played an old guy named “Curly”. In a scene where both were on horseback, moving along, slowly herding cattle, the 2 had this conversation:

INTRODUCTION
This morning, Friday, May 17, 2019, I was moved to think about my cousin Davie
McLaughlin who passed away in December 2004. In recalling memories of Davie
and I, I was filled with the happiness of what we had as kids doing things together
and what we shared as adults.
Dave passed away as a result of a brain tumor. I was invited by his mother (my
Aunt Vi) and his sisters (Kathi and Dori) to prepare the memorial service and
speak at the service, along with their pastor. I did so. I visited and talked with the
family about Dave and the service. I prepared the order of service and the bulletin.
I prepared and gave a message titled, “Davie Took Me Places”. I chose topic
because, mostly as kids and then into adulthood, that’s what Davie did. He took
me places I would have never thought of or known to go to without him. Our
experiences were fun and memorable.
In this writing, I want to share with you the happening that inspired me to write
this document and many things that were included in the Memorial Service.

INSPIRATION RECEIVED
A POST ON FACEBOOK
On the morning of Friday, May 17, 2019, I saw a recent post by Dada McLaughlin, a daughter of Dave
McLaughlin. I don’t remember how I came to find it in my newsfeed that day since it was posted over a
month before on March 30, 2019. That post with all its comments is shown below and on the next page.
When I saw that post by a McLaughlin, my mind automatically went to my cousin, Davie McLaughlin
since he was an avid outdoorsman and he shared that with me when we were kids and beyond.
Dana posted her picture of her opening day trout catch on March 30th
. She wrote:
Finally got a trout on opening day!
Seeing that post, I commented:
Fishing is in the McLaughlin heritage. My cousin
Davy is my best memories of being a lover of all
creatures that live outside . . . salamanders, tadpoles,
fish, pigeons, crabs, snakes, even worms. Davy took
me places I would have never known. We trekked
through weeds and brush for a long time to get to a
small hidden pond in a woods that was full of tadpoles
like I've never seen. We got a bucket full and trekked
back home and put them in Uncle Charlie's cinder
block pool. Surely, they grew and hopped away.
Dana responded:
That makes sense as he was my dad. I learned so much
about nature from him. I hope to get out on the river this weekend in my kayak. Love of water is
another thing I got from him.
I responded:
After I wrote that and posted it, I remembered that you are his daughter. I asked Dory to be sure.
Those moments of remembering Davie just brought happy thoughts to me about him and me.
There were other comments from family and friends in addition to mine.
Seeing Dana’s post on Facebook and having that exchange with her, I felt a sudden uplift and joy
for the memories I have with Davie and his family. That inspired me to lookup on my computer the
files containing the documents about Dave’s Memorial Service, and then to put this document together
with everything I have about that service. I want to make this available to his family members and have
others share some of what we lived with Davie.
Dana’s Facebook post and its comments are shown on the next 2 pages.

A. DAVIE TOOK ME PLACES WHEN WE WERE KIDS
In The 1950s, Early 1960s, & Once In The 1970s
1. To His House For Dinners When We Were Kids
• In Hall Manor, where we ate a family dinner in the kitchen and there
was a large, gold can of sun fish in the kitchen closet waiting to be
cleaned.
• On Derry Street, where we ate a family dinner in the kitchen, and
Dave was acting up, squinting, and twisting his hair.
2. To The River Fishing
• Where Uncle Donny took us night fishing.
3. To Places Of Exploration, Looking For Creatures
• To the lot on Brookwood Street, around the corner from his house, where he found and
showed me salamanders from under the rocks. The lot was more like a sunken area in the
ground. We had to go down the slope into the lot that was full of bushes, trees, and things
living.
• To the gold fish pond and the grape arbor in his back yard.
• Looking for snakes.
• To the Quarry looking for baby pigeons – An active quarry no less
4. To The Active Quarry Between Paxton Street & I-83
• Where we climbed a long and high conveyor belt that hauled large, cut rocks to be ground up.
• Where we went into the buildings to get baby pigeons from their nests. We took them
home to Davie’s house on Derry Street.
When Davie had his surgery for a brain tumor last summer, I told Kathy to tell Davie
that it was just an old pigeon egg that got stuck in his ear when he was a kid.
• We were seen once by a workman at the quarry, but we got away. We still went there
several times.
• Who knew What we were up to?
Who knew Where we were?
5. To Crystal Beach With His Family When We Were Kids
• Others family members were there: Aunt Deloras and others.
• Where I caught the largest crab ever on the dock.
• Where we went fishing at night and caught eels.
• Where Uncle Donny took us crabbing in the ocean in some dinky little boat. We brought
them back to our cabin and cooked them. I remember the kitchen seen - the adults in the
kitchen - the crabs in the pot trying to get out. See Pics At Bottom Next Page

6. To The Hill Along Duke Street Behind What Is Now Holy Family
• Where there was an old “steam shovel”, that Davie wanted to start.
I can hear him saying, “Watch This.”
I watched as he climbed into the operator’s seat.
I heard the engine attempt to grind into motion.
I took off down over the hill towards home, not waiting to
see what was going to happen next.
7. To The Old Melrose Elementary School Playground
• Where we stayed out well past dark and no one knew where I was.
8. With My Brother Bud’s, Big Gaudy Looking Pinkish Nash Rambler, Maybe His 1st Car
• Where Davie and I looked under the hood and Davie laughed at what he called
“A Flat Head Six”.
9. To The Chesapeake Bay Fishing (We Were Older In Our 20s)
• I remember being at his house when we left. His wife and daughter Denise were there.
• On the bay, Davie had arranged a place to stay for us - a cold, damp, and drafty shack on a
cold rainy weekend. Pitiful accommodations. A fisherman’s dream apparently– cold & wet.
• Out on the Chesapeake Bay, in some dinky little boat.
(Note the patterns here – cold, wet, damp, fishing at night, small boats in big waters,
seemingly no regard for safety, time, or place.)
• We didn’t catch any fish, so Dave got us to crabbing.
We had no place to put all the crabs we caught, so we
just put them on the bottom of the small boat.
We covered the bottom.
I remember seeing Davie quickly lifting his feet off the
bottom of the boat because crabs were pinching at his
feet. One grabbed a hold of his finger, was hanging as
Davie lifted his hand, and it wouldn’t let go.
• We brought the crabs home, split them between us, & each went home.
I called Mom Barbush (my grandmother, we all called her Mom) and she came up to my
Mom and Dad’s house. We cooked and ate them.

PLACES THAT DAVIE NEVER TOOK ME
1. Davie never got me into any trouble
Other than what parents might consider trouble, like
Being out after dark when we were little kids
Not letting parents know where we were
Going to an active quarry
Starting an unattended steam shovel
Going out into oceans and bays in little boats
2. He never took me drinking, not that he did.
3. He never gave me a cigarette, which he did smoke.
4. There was never the bad sort of mischief that many kinds seem to get into.
5. There was something wholesome about Davie
something wholesome about what he did with you.
B. THEN LIFE TOOK IT’S COURSE FOR BOTH OF US
6. After our childhood, I guess we went different ways.
Dave went into the Marines and I went to college.
We saw each other at family functions, but not much more than that.
We would remember and laugh about those things we did as kids.
We never got into any deep discussions about anything.
7. I never heard a stern word from Davie. Never.
He always “seemed” peaceful.
8. In our adult years, there was not too much said between us, just small talk.
I never heard a word from him about the Marines and what he went through in Viet Nam.
Imagine what could have been there, in his mind, about that.
In our adult year, Davie was just Davie - kinda quiet and just there.
Observing
Being part of what was happening
Being part of family
Looking for something? Aren’t we all?
C. THEN DAVIE CAME TO ME ONCE
Sometime in the late 1980s, maybe 88 or 89, like 25 years ago,
Davie called me. I lived on Luce Street at the time.
He was going through a particularly tough time in his life.
He was distraught, up against something that he just felt was too much to bear.
We talked about it a while.
Having been through some very difficult times myself,
I was able to offer him some encouragement and strengthening.
Remember the Scripture that was read from 2 Corinthians.
I offered him some things about
How God can take us through
the valleys of our lives
and
bring us out on top.
Remember the Scripture that was read from Psalm 23.
We ended that time with a prayer about the situation.

D. MY LAST VISIT WITH DAVIE
9. My last visit with Davie was the afternoon of Monday, November 22, 4 weeks ago (from the
original writing of this memorial. I spent about an hour or so with him.
We had some chit-chat, as usual, about small talk kinda stuff.
I then asked him a few questions, because I wanted to know how he was dealing with things.
I asked him what the doctors had said.
He said, “Kathy would know more about that than me.” I didn't push it.
I also asked him how he was getting through his situation.
He said “faith, keeping faith”.
I didn't pursue what he meant by “faith”, but it seemed obvious.
I asked him if he ever gets tired.
He said, “No, I just have faith. I’m not one to preach, but I just keep faith.”
He talked about all the support that he had from many people –
o Childhood acquaintances
o People that helped around the house
o The guy that took him to the doctors
o People that sent numerous cards throughout the week
o His boss that called him
He knew that he had a good support system.
He appreciated the people that provided that support.
He said that people just showed up to fill the need and they were there throughout.
He mentioned those that could give certain shots he needed, like someone that's a visiting
nurse. She did it painlessly.
We had a good visit.
He asked me how I fared in the election.
We talked about his model car collection.
He told me that he is a grandfather.
13. Version Dated May 30, 2019
Remembering Davie – David F. McLaughlin Page 13 of 28
10. I wrote Kathy about our visit.
Because she wanted to know something about David.
What was he thinking?
How was he, not just physically, but spiritually as well.
Because she knew that his time could be short.
11. Before going to visit Dave, I realized that I have never heard Dave complain.
True to form, he did not complain that day, though some in his condition would.
12. BEFORE I LEFT, I SAID A PRAYER WITH DAVIE.
13. It All Kinda Left Me Speechless
Dave’s Situation
Aunt Vi’s illness
Aunt Toots’ Situation
Denny's Daughter, who was not at the time, but then was doing well
Denny's Son who passed away, at that time, 2 years ago
on and on
And since then Uncle Howard Keys passed away
Made me think about things.
But there are some times that are beyond just thinking
They are times not to be speechless nor actionless.
People in Davie’s support system were getting things done.
To give Dave what he needed.
People that were just there when they needed to be.
They were helping Dave get through.
I didn't know what I could do for Dave and I told him that.
But I said that if he thinks of anything, to let me know.
What? A prayer? A visit?
Didn’t seem like enough for me to do, but maybe it was.
14. Version Dated May 30, 2019
Remembering Davie – David F. McLaughlin Page 14 of 28
E. SO WHAT DOES THIS BRING ME TO?
IT BRINGS ME TO QUESTIONS:
In spite of some good times as kids,
14. What happens when we grow up and start to find our own way, and we drift apart?
15. Why is it?
Conversation can be so superficial?
Conversation often doesn’t go very deep into what is really happening in our lives,
things that trouble us deeply?
16. Why is it?
The things that many men talk about include sports, cars, business, and such?
That many men can’t or don’t share what is really important in their lives?
17. Why is it?
Discussions about religion are so divisive, rather than so uniting?
18. Why is it?
When someone even asks these questions in a public setting like this, that someone might
not think that these questions should even be asked here and now?
19. Why is it?
Many of us have not really accepted one another as we ought?
WHAT ARE THE ANSWERS?
Answers to those questions may lie in our disagreements, disagreements as to what we believe
individually.
We don’t believe the same things.
We don’t agree, then we don’t unite. Then we are apart.
Amongst us here are Catholics, Protestants, and Independents, maybe not connected to
denomination, maybe not even caring about religion and church.
15. Version Dated May 30, 2019
Remembering Davie – David F. McLaughlin Page 15 of 28
WHY THOSE QUESTIONS?
I have these questions that sometimes cause concern or trouble when they are asked, because
when it comes to these kinds of situations,
where there are family members and friends that are sick and possibly dying, or have died –
there is one thing that some people, whether family or friends, want to know for certain,
and that is this:
IS THE PERSON SAVED?
WAS DAVIE SAVED?
WHERE’S THE PERSON GOING AFTER THIS LIFE?
WHERE IS DAVIE, RIGHT NOW?
And that’s what Kathy wanted to be certain of because Davie was just not the kind
of guy that would talk about these things to her. So she asked me to go and find out
how Davie was with these things. So, I went.
Well, my answer to those 2 questions are this:
I know what Aunt Vi, and cousins Kathy and Dorie, believe about Jesus Christ, that He is
“The Way, The Truth, and The Life”, the one and only way to get to heaven. There is no
other way to get to heaven, except by believing that we must be “born again” by giving our
heart to Jesus Christ.
Believe in your heart and confess with your mouth
that Jesus Christ is Lord
and
though shall be saved.
Following that pattern in the McLaughlin family,
I can tie what Davie said to me about having
“faith, keeping faith” in his hour of need.
He said,
“I just have faith. I’m not one to preach, but I just keep faith.”
So that’s my assurance that I know where Davie is right now.
His Savior has him in heaven.
16. Version Dated May 30, 2019
Remembering Davie – David F. McLaughlin Page 16 of 28
F. GOING FURTHER
Davie was quiet in many respects. That’s ok. It’s ok to be quiet in many areas of our lives.
But when it comes to Jesus Christ, our belief in Him, our trust in Him that he is our Savior, the telling
of other people that one must be born again to enter into the Kingdom Of Heaven, a believer should
not be quiet. A believer should express in words and actions
That Jesus is the way to salvation.
That head knowledge of Jesus is not sufficient.
That a transaction in the heart is also necessary.
And when we get saved, then we must go tell people about Him and see if they want to come along.
But many times, the believer gets rejected, because people don’t understand, or they think they are ok
with God, or they think that their attendance at church is sufficient.
[---------and such---------]
Are You Saved?
What Is God Doing In Your Life?
How Are You Today? Really? Deep Down With What Matters?
G. GETTING OVER THAT
Maybe we’re getting over that as a family
Because we’re getting older.
Because family members have passed away,
several in the past couple of years
Because family members are sick.
Maybe we’re being drawn together like never before
Because OF TIMES like this.
Because AT TIMES like this
We delve into that person’s life
To see what his life was about
To see what we shared with him
To see that we had something with him
something good and precious
something that we did not recognize or acknowledge when he was alive
something that we were afraid to talk about or did not want to talk about
I delved into Davie’s life with me
I came to see what his life was about for me
I came to see what Davie shared with me
I came to see that we had something
something good and precious
something that we did not recognize or acknowledge when he was alive
something that we didn’t talk about
17. Version Dated May 30, 2019
Remembering Davie – David F. McLaughlin Page 17 of 28
I came to see that Davie took me places.
I came to see that I took Davie somewhere too.
I prayed with him. That’s all.
Just 2 prayers: 1 about 25 years ago and
1 on Nov. 22, the week of Thanksgiving
But you know,
that’s the greatest place I could have ever taken him.
Because when you take someone to prayer,
You take them to the Throne Room Of God.
You take them to the King, the King of kings.
You take them to the Father, His Son, and His Holy Spirit.
And now, Davie is there
In Heaven
With the King
With believers that have gone before him
He went there on December 17, 2004
He is there today on December 21, 2004
the week of Christmas.
He will be there forever.

WHEN ANSWERS AREN’T ENOUGH
THERE IS JESUS
By
Scott Wesley Brown and Greg Nelson
You have faced the mountains of desperation;
You have climbed, you have fought, you have won;
But this valley that lies coldly before you,
Casts a shadow you cannot overcome.
And just when you thought you had it all together,
You knew every verse to get you through;
But this time all the sorrow
Broke more than just your heart,
And reciting all those verses just won’t do.
Chorus:
When answers aren’t enough—There is Jesus!
He is more than just an answer to your prayer.
And your heart will find a safe and peaceful refuge.
When answers aren’t enough—He is there.
Instead of asking “Why did it happen?”
Think of where it can lead you from here,
And as your pain is slowly easing
You can find a greater reason
To live your life triumphant through the tears.
Chorus:
When answers aren’t enough—There is Jesus!
He is more than just an answer to your prayer.
And your heart will find a safe and peaceful refuge.
When answers aren’t enough—He is there.
When answers aren’t enough—There is Jesus!
He is more than just an answer to your prayer.
And your heart will find a safe and peaceful refuge.

The Marine’s Prayer
Almighty Father,
Whose command is over all,
Whose love never fails,
Make me aware of Thy presence,
Make me obedient to Thy will.
Keep me true to my best self,
Guarding me against dishonesty in purpose, in deed,
Helping me to live so that I can face my fellow Marines,
my loved ones, and Thee without shame or fear.
Protect my family.
Give me the will
To do the work of a Marine,
To accept my share of responsibilities
with vigor and enthusiasm.
Grant me the courage
To be proficient in my daily performance.
Keep me loyal and faithful
To my superiors,
To the duties my country,
To the duties the Marine Corps has entrusted to me.
Make me considerate of those committed to my leadership.
Help me to wear my uniform with dignity
Let it remind me daily of the traditions which I must uphold.
If I am inclined to doubt, .......... Steady my faith;
If I am tempted, Make me strong to resist;
If I should miss the mark, ......... Give me courage to try again.
Guide me with The Light Of Truth.
Grant me Wisdom
By which I may understand the answer to my prayer.
Amen.
WHEN ANSWERS AREN’T ENOUGH
THERE IS JESUS
By
Scott Wesley Brown and Greg Nelson
You have faced the mountains of desperation;
You have climbed, you have fought, you have won;
But this valley that lies coldly before you,
Casts a shadow you cannot overcome.
And just when you thought you had it all together,
You knew every verse to get you through;
But this time all the sorrow
When answers aren’t enough—He is there.
When answers aren’t enough—He is there.

Psalm 121
A Psalm of David
A Song For The Ascent To Jerusalem
1 I look up to the mountains—
does my help come from there? No.
2 My help comes from the LORD,
Who made the heavens and the earth!
3 He will not let you stumble and fall;
The One Who Watches over you will not sleep.
4 Indeed,...He Who Watches over Israel
Never tires and
Never sleeps.
5 The LORD Himself.....Watches over you!
The LORD Himself.....Stands beside you
as your protective shade.
6 The sun........ will not hurt you by day, and
The moon ..... will not hurt you at night.
7 The LORD .................Keeps you from all evil.
The LORD .................Preserves your life.
8 The LORD..................Watches over you
as you come and go,
both Now and Forever.
Psalm 23: 1-6
A Psalm of David
The Servant Of The LORD
1 The LORD is my shepherd;
I shall not lack any good thing.
2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters.
3 He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.
4 Yes, even if I walk
through the valley of the shadow of death,
I am not afraid;
Because You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff,
they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil;
My cup runs over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life;
And
I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

2 Corinthians 1:3-4
God Offers Comfort to All
3 All praise to the God and Father
of our Lord Jesus Christ.
He is the source of every mercy
and
He is the God who comforts us.
4 He comforts us in all our troubles
so that we can comfort others.
When others are troubled,
we will be able to give them
the same comfort God has given us.
2 Corinthians 5:1-10
We Will Be At Home With The Lord
1 For we know
When this earthly tent we live in is taken down—
When we die and leave these bodies—
We will have a home in heaven,
We will have an eternal body
A home and a body made for us
Not made by human hands
But made by God Himself.
2 We grow weary in our present bodies.
We long for the day
When we will put on our heavenly bodies
like new clothing.
3 We will not be spirits without bodies.
We will put on new heavenly bodies.
4 Our dying bodies make us groan and sigh.
Not that we want to die and have no bodies at all.
We just want to slip into our new bodies
So that
these dying bodies will be
swallowed up by everlasting life.
5 God Himself has prepared us for this.
And as a guarantee, He has given us His Holy Spirit.
6 So, we are always confident.
Even though we know that
As long as we live in these bodies
We are not at home with the Lord.
8 Yes, we are fully confident.
We would rather be away from these bodies,
For then We will be at home with the Lord.

Hi Jim!
Sorry it took me awhile to get back to you on the story about Dave.
Here it is. I would like to send a copy of it to Vi, Kathy, and Dory with a cd. Have you heard of
Jason Upton? There is this really neat song he wrote. I would love for them to hear it. I think it is
called My Beloved (or maybe Come Up Here)
I really hope the experience I was so honored to have brings closure and healing to your family!
It was so nice to meet you. I think of all of you often and pray! Be blessed!!!!!
In His Love, Jane
TESTIMONY
Sometime in October or November 2004, I was getting dressed and I started to think about Dave. I hadn't
seen Dave in years. The time that Dave was my stepfather I was a typical teenager. – We know how
teenagers can be with parents and step-parents. God put Dave on my heart to pray for him.
God asked me to ask forgiveness in the way I treated Dave. So I did. God wanted me to pray a blessing
over Dave. I did.
I went to Elvis's pizza shop later on that day. Tonya came in and told us that Dave was in the hospital,
he just had a tumor removed from his brain. I about flipped out. There really aren't words for how I felt.
I felt honored that God would place Dave on my heart so I could pray for him. I felt special that God
trusted me to pray! Tonya said he is doing well. I was ecstatic. Then not long after that, I got the news
that Dave was dying of cancer. I had no idea that Dave was sick. The first I heard of any illness was
when Tonya told me about the brain tumor. Well, I know God placed him on my heart for a reason...So I
made a commitment to God. God, I'm going to fast for 21 days for a strategic prayer.
26. Version Dated May 30, 2019
Remembering Davie – David F. McLaughlin Page 3 of 28
You see, I wanted to pray with Dave. At the beginning of the fast is when they sent Dave home with
Hospice. I asked a nurse friend of mine, when a patient is sent home with Hospice how long does that
mean until they die. She replied, 6 months. I was thought, I have time to pray. I started to fast on
November 18, 2004.
My mom wanted to go and make sure Dave knew Jesus. I wanted to lay my hands on him and ask for
him to be healed! I remember that day, my mom, and I decided to go and pray. Tonya was going to
watch the kids as mom and I were going to pray. I got a shower. Mom was trying to get Dave's phone
number to see if it's okay to come over. Well, my mom got a hold of Dave and he didn't want company
that day.
We tried to make another arrangement, but it didn't work out.......
I had no babysitter. About the middle of the fast, God gave me what I wanted....a strategic prayer.
God said…………… Jane, Dave has lost hope. Go give him hope.
God also gave me .... No one has ever fought for Dave. Are you willing to fight for him?
That's all God had to tell me. I love to war ... in prayer that is. At that same time, I was talking to a
friend/mentor of mine, he told me to go. Jane just go. He even said ....... just do it!
I knew I would be going. I just couldn't go then. I had a cheerleading comp to get ready for. The next
week I had another comp to get ready for and I got very tired and overwhelmed and sick. Then, it's
Christmas time....cards....letters....pictures....gifts cookies....wrapping....needless to say, I forgot. In my
head, I'm thinking I have time! Then I get that dreaded call. Dave died Dec 17, 2004. I never had a
chance to go to Dave and pray. I felt like I failed him and God.
Well, I will not beat myself up over this. I can't. And God doesn't want me to anyway.
The funeral was held on Tuesday Dec 21, 2004. Prior to that day, I had been praying. This day I felt
sad. I felt mad. I had let my fears take over and it cost a life. I was mad. I made a decision that I was
never going to let fear do that again. I was laying down talking to God, during the viewing part of the
ceremony. My conversation went a little like this:
God, I don't know if Dave accepted you as his Lord and Savior. Is he in heaven?
Immediately following the question, I get a picture of Dave....
He is running and leaping on streets of gold. Jumping up and down.
He is looking down, almost like he were looking at his family, the ones dearest to him, his
daughters, his mom, his sisters etc...saying,
LOOK AT ME....I'M FREE....I'M FREE....I'M FREE....LOOK AT ME. I'M FREE.
As he was saying those words, his hands were crisscrossed and then released.
It was like he wanted so badly for all of you to see him now. Immediately, I started to get flooded with
thoughts of doubt and unbelief. I had to tell myself, I have to have faith that what God showed me is
true!!!!!!
I know with all my heart Dave is in heaven with his father who loves him so much. David means
beloved and God held Dave dear to His heart. He would never let him go!
You know the story the pastor shared at the funeral about the women who had been privileged to go to
heaven. Well, if you had a heaven experience, you would be greeted by Jesus but also Dave.
The Wednesday after the funeral...around 4 or 5 AM, I awoke. That's very unusual for me. I love to
sleep in. I was wide awake. I started to pray for Vi, Denise, and Dana. I also prayed for the rest of the
family, but the three of those women mostly. I'm still praying for you all!!!!!!
Be blessed!!!!
Love, Jane Bryan, Sandee's daughter
