Seeing Classmates Differently Than When In High School
New Energy When We Gather Together
Our 50th High School Reunion for Bishop McDevitt's Class of 1967 was a SMASH HIT.
The accolades are OVER THE TOP. We received many great comments and congrats on the entire
weekend. Facebook was lit up before and after the reunion weekend. Our gatherings after the reunion
have a new energy and appreciation for one another.
Believe it or not, whether sounding corny or not, one classmate, while
attending the Friday Night Football game, said that his experience
there was "Magical". Magical? Really? Yes, really! Surely, it had to
do with the colorful night sky, the nice temperatures, the sounds and
happenings of the game, and of course, being with and conversing
with classmates in the stands who did the same thing over 50 years
ago, and may have not seen each other in 10, 20, 30, 40, or even 50
years ago (or maybe even 2 days ago).
Since the big weekend on September 22-23-24, 2017, we gathered
pics and Facebook shares about the weekend. We collected as much
info as we could and put it into documents to publish for everyone to see.
It's been an enjoyable task, and it has grown beyond what
we "imagined". And now, we can present our reunion in this yearbook and other books showing the
great event that occurred and the great people who attended, and how we were all impacted.
Also since the big weekend, classmates have talked about that weekend and the effect it has had on
everyone. Something Has Happened. Something Old Has Changed. Something New Was Created,
Because of Our 50th
Year Class Reunion.
After 50 years since high school, classmates are seeing one another differently than when in
high school. New relationships have been developed and are growing. Previous
relationships have been renewed and are growing. Established relationships are being
maintained and are growing. New energy is in our midst as we continue to gather. All of
that is what we call AFTERGLOW. It is the glow that we are continuing to experience as
we gather since the big weekend. The Bishop McDevitt Class of 1967 is living in the
AFTERGLOW of their 50th Year High School Reunion.

The Reunion Committee began planning for the 50th
Year Class Reunion in
June and July of 2016. Committee meetings were done while also having
alternating and separate gatherings of classmates every few months. Our first 2
meetings were well attended with about 25 to 30 classmates each. The high energy
and interest were noticeable. As planning meetings and gatherings continued,
we progressed seemingly the way committees usually function with a committed
core of committee members doing the usual and necessary things. Looking back at
those meetings, we had no idea the level of success we were going to attain.
During initial meetings, we discussed the potential numbers for attendees.
It was stated that about 80 classmates attend such as event. Out of a class of 400,
that’s not a big number. It’s even a disappointing number. But, we broke through
that norm to register 171 classmates and guests (112 classmates and 59 guests),
greatly exceeding the norm and expectations. At the arrival of the event, only
4 registered classmates could not attend for reasons beyond their control.

I. INTRODUCTION Page 10 of 103
For the weekend of Friday, Saturday, & Sunday, September 22/23/24, 2017,
we had a full slate of events that were well attended and full of energy:
• Friday Morning Golf Outing
• Friday Night Football Game
• Friday Night Gathering After The Football Game
• Saturday Night Reunion Dinner (Susquehanna Club)
Including the Formal Dinner, Speech by Steve Reed (Class President),
Speech by Mr. John Brixius (one of our history teachers and later school
principal), a Display of Memorabilia, a Memorial Remembering Those No
Longer With Us, and Many Memorable Photographs by Classmates and a
Professional Photographer
• Sunday Mass At School & School Tour & Brunch
Prior to the weekend, there was a lot of Pre-Reunion Chatter on Facebook, in
emails, in some letters, all of which helped to capture and project the significance
and meaning of this threshold event for classmates.
In this book, titled PRIDWEN 1967 TO PRIDWEN 2017 - The Yearbook of
50th
Reunion Memories for Bishop McDevitt High School’s Class of 1967 in 2017,
we have captured the essence of the reunion by documenting much of what
happened with the List of Registrants, the Recognition of Classmates No Longer
With Us, Pre-Reunion Chatter, Photos by Our Professional Photographer, Photos
by Our Classmates, and other items, all organized under each event.
SOCIAL MEDIA. During planning for the reunion, we developed several sites
on Social Media which we are continuing since the reunion. These are places
where we engage the classmates and others to generate interest and keep all
informed of important information and significant happenings.

SUE & GARY
CELEBRATING 50 YEARS OF MARRIAGE
CELEBRATING 50 YEARS OF REUNIONS
MANY THANKS TO
Sue Camplese Herman and Her Strong Supporting Man, Gary Herman, Sr.
We give great thanks to you, Sue and Gary, for all you have done over the
50 years, 5 decades, 1/2 century, to keep our reunions going. Many others
have also contributed to this effort in planning and attending, but we had
many reunions, some at your home, and we have recently continued to gather
at local venues every few months. Very well done.
Till this year I did not know that every reunion was also a celebration of your
wedding anniversary. How extremely unique. Fantastic. Very well done.
You obviously have big hearts for drawing us together so many times.
Obviously, yours is a marriage ordained in Heaven.
Gary, you are apparently one amazing husband to have quietly been there
for 50 years for Sue and for our high school class. Where would our class be
without you supporting Sue as you have. There certainly is something inside you, which is surely a
heart of servanthood, that we all need to come to know much more than we do now.
The Class of 1967 has crossed the Great Threshold of 50 Years, and now is Day 1 of our new season
of knowing one another. It is a new day offering hope and longevity.
We look forward to many more times together as a class again and again and again . . . .
See you at the next Gathering of Bishop McDevitt High School Crusaders Class of 1967.

Dear Crusader Classmates of '67:
Sorry that I won't be able to attend the reunion this weekend, but will be there in spirit.
My wife (Patty) and I are living in Raleigh, NC close to one of our two daughters and her two
children. I spent most of my working career in the paper and packaging industry working in NY and
CT, with the last stops in Columbus, OH and finally in Raleigh, NC.
Since retiring in 2011, I have done some part time teaching in the management college at NC State. I
have been playing some golf and spending a lot of time with grandchildren at Wrightsville Beach
(near Wilmington).
I get to see Bob Creason every Fall on their annual golf trip to Myrtle Beach.
I hope you are all doing well! I have enjoyed the stories and pictures on the blog.
Congratulations to the committee for a great job in organizing the reunion!
Fred Renk

To my much beloved Class of ‘67
Thank you so much for the invitation to your 50th Class Reunion (thus
can’t be – it means I’m really old). I would love nothing more than to be
with you on September 23 but it just isn’t possible.
My years at McDevitt were the happiest of my teaching career: the
iconic Twin Towers, the excitement of successful sports teams, my
wonderful companions of the faculty, who became dear friends. Most of all
I treasure all of you. While I mat not remember all your names now, I do
recall how much I treasured all of you. You made me so proud of your
creativity; you made me laugh when I tried not to; you brought in that
wonderful music of the 60s, The Grateful Dead, Simon and Garfunkle, The
Eagles, etc. which I still love to this day. Among my dearest photos are two
of your classmates who met in a foxhole in Nam, a very handsome young
drill instructor, a newly-ordained priest, an engagement announcement, a
gifted entertainer who met my neighbor on a cruise ship (what are the
odds). I hated to think of all the issues you were facing and would continue
to face after graduation.
So, you have always mattered to me. You are McDevitt to me
With love to all
Loretta

A Great Story about Steve Prendergast, By Joe Behe
With the very recent passing of our classmate, Steve Prendergast, I asked classmates for some stories or
information about him. Because of that and because of a post in Steve's Guest Book in his obituary,
I made a great connection with Joe Behe in Ireland.
Joe posted a message on Steve's Guest Book. Through that message, I got in touch with Joe asking him
about Steve. Next thing I knew was I received a call from a "restricted" number. I almost did not answer,
but I did, and much to my surprise it was Joe calling from Ireland.
After some conversation about Joe in Ireland and Steve, he sent me some heartfelt words that I want to
share with everyone. You will find a post about the story on our blog. Use the below link:

Joe (Behe),
That was a GREAT tribute to Steve Prendergast.
I remembered him as a very quiet and respectful person.
Those experiences made us who we are today. Just to mention a few:….
1. In Father Murray’s religion class, another positive role model.
I remember Rocco C. being smashed between to closet doors in back of the classroom. Knowing
Rocco I am sure he didn’t deserve that : ))) Hopefully Rocco's PTSD (Post Traumatic Syndrome
Disorder) is resolved by now.
2. Sister Elizabeth Ann, the Physics teacher and home room person.
Sister “E” had to resolve an issue concerning her physics equipment that was damaged. She met me in
the hallway and imprinted her fingers on my face… thanks to Mr. “I” (Intrieri) the Algebra II
teacher, he harbored me until it was safe. Bill Stape, with his quick reflexes, stopped her hand in
time. Sister “E” then responded and shocked and impressed by his quick reaction said
“William I can tell your are crazy…by the size of your pupils.” Of course we were “innocent”.
It’s the experiences like these that made us who we are.
Bill Stape a competent CEO for AMP, and me a HealthCare Manager/Vocational Expert Consultant with
the Office of Disability Adjudication and Review. We were probably responsible for Sister Elizabeth Ann
being placed on Prozac… : )))
Lets Party!!!

MARCIA AND PEPPER
TWO OF A RARE KIND
SO HAPPY TOGETHER
Marcia Barbush married Pepper Yarnell and they are two of the most hilarious
people. They could be a modern day Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin, or Rowan and
Martin, or Smothers Brothers, or Laurel and Hardy.
Who do you think is the main character and who is the sidekick?
TWO OF A RARE KIND
SO HAPPY TOGETHER
These cousins lived next door to each other from when they were 6 years old till
after graduating high school and then some. And they spent 2 years at Holy Family
in the same class (5th
and 6th
grades). Then they were 4 years at McD in the same
homeroom. Marcia was key in getting dates for Jim. She always knew who was
secretly intersted.

Opening Remarks by
Stephen R. Reed
President of the Class of 1967
Fifty years and 3 months ago, we gathered for a
Communion Breakfast and Commencement Ceremonies.
It was our high school graduation. It was the end of a
critical chapter in our lives, a transformation from
adolescence to young adulthood. Now we gather to mark
the occasion. This is a weekend of Remembrance, of
Gratitude and of Celebration. It is a time of reflection on
our youth - with a yearning that we could experience it
once again, even if for these few days. This reunion
inspires a flood of memories.
Our thanks must go to the splendid Reunion
Committee - Susan Camplese Herman, Patty (Pavelik) Williams, Rose Ann (Salerno) Carr, and Jim
Barbush and ALL who spent many hours, efforts, and their own resources to plan and execute these 3
days.
(Reunion Committee Members please stand).
We thank our teachers and advisors. Many made a very real difference in our lives. They nurtured
us, they educated us, they guided us. Teaching in the Catholic schools requires a high degree of service
AND sacrifice. Many of their names we instantly recall from our life's experiences. We are in their
debt.
And we thank our Parents and Guardians. They made a conscious choice to send us to parochial
school and made the sacrifices to pay the extra tuition and other costs associated with doing so. They
did this for us - and in so doing, gave us opportunity and an education that helped define the rest of our
lives. We remember and thank them now.
We remember our classmates who have passed from this temporal life. Joyce (Donato) Zeiger and
Steve Prendergast, just in the past several weeks. Lt. Col. Gerald Nye and 44 others in earlier times.
They join us in spirit tonight. We pray that their souls shall, for eternity, be in the merciful and loving
arms of God.

VIII THE REUNION DINNER – MESSAGE FROM THE CLASS PRESIDENT Page 51 of 103
We celebrate our Class of 1967 . . . a class known for its high spirit and its school pride . . . a class
known for its accomplishments in the classrooms, in sports and in all manner of academic and extra-
curricular endeavor.
Bishop McDevitt accorded us many ways to learn and grow and hone our knowledge and skill. It
nurtured us and we thrived as a Class.
Our experience at McDevitt allowed us to go into the future with faith, high hope, and ideals, and with
confidence.
This is a Class that, over this past half century, became leaders and contributors in business and
industry, in military, civic and Church affairs, and in a litany of pursuits and endeavors - and a Class,
who as parents, spawned succeeding generations of children,
families, and of Life.
The Class of 1967 has significantly contributed to our Church and
our society across this nation and especially in the communities of
this region in Pennsylvania. Congratulations to each and all of you.
On this occasion, we recall so many things - both serious and
otherwise - from those high school years. The antics, the fun, the
sports events, the discipline of Mother Marie Francois, the classroom
toil and challenges - and so much more.
And we recall that as a Catholic institution, Bishop McDevitt
High School taught lifelong precepts and values – ideals to guide us
in the future – ideals that in in American society - with all its
divisiveness and cultural friction - we could use a lot more of in our
nation today.
Bishop McDevitt High School made us better persons.
From our high school days of high spirit, members of the Class
of 1967 have a unique Bond - a bond of shared experience in our
years of youth - a bond of shared affection. It is a Bond that allows
each of us to say with Pride and with Love . . . .
"I am a Member of the Class of 1967"
May God bless each of you and all of the Class of '67.
May God bless our Alma Mater, its teachers and staff - both past and present.
And may God bless the United States of America, the greatest nation on this Earth.

REMEMBERING THOSE NO LONGER WITH US
When we started planning for our 50th
Year Reunion in June/July 2016, we knew of 40 deceased
classmates. As we worked to find classmates with unknown contact information, we learned of 2 more
deceased classmates. It was sobering to learn of the names on the list of departed classmates. The first one
passed in April 1969, just after graduation. The last one passed in February 2016. So, in 49 years, 42 classed
passed.
Then, very sadly, as we continued our planning, 5 more classmates passed away in one year from July
2016 to July 2017. As this yearbook is being prepared, 2 more classmates passed in December 2017 and
February 2018. These most recent passings of classmates are a sure sign of an aging class. However, it must
be noted that, for our age group, our percentage of classmates is much lower than the norm. You can find that
percentage and other information in this article: “50th Year High School Reunion? Why Go?”.
To date, on February 20, 2018, we know of 49 deceased classmates. We very much hope that we have
accounted for all deceased classmates. However, we still have many more classmates for which we have no
contact information. Even as we discovered 2 deceased classmates for whom we did not know were
deceased, we are very much hoping we have not missed any more. We have done a diligent web search
attempting to find all classmates for whom we have no contact information.
To the families of deceased classmates, we sincerely express our deepest sympathies and sorrows at the
passing of the classmates with whom we grew up with in the Class of ’67 at Bishop McDevitt High
School.
A PERSONAL NOTE BY JIM BARBUSH
As a member of the Planning Committee, one of my duties was managing the Directory of Classmates,
a list of 400 classmates. As I learned and continued to learn about deceased classmates and the passing of
more classmates, I was deeply sobered. A most striking one was Harry Beech. Now, Harry was not a
graduating member of our class. However, he did attend Bishop McDevitt with us. Thus, I carried him in our
directory.
A most striking thing to me was that Harry passed on April 16, 1969, less than 2 years after graduation,
and it happened during combat in Viet Nam. After graduation, Harry was one who went to Viet Nam while
other classmates went to college, or got jobs, or got married, and continued life. You can read more about
Harry at these sites: The Vietnam Veterans Memorial, The Wall of Faces,
Facebook Page & Post: Bishop McDevitt Class of 1967, HARRY BEECH, JR.
As I continued with the Planning Committee, I became increasingly aware of the importance of connecting
with classmates in the here and now, because the next meeting might be your last meeting. This happened
with the passing of Joyce Donato. I saw Joyce and Keith recently at one of our informal class gatherings in
2016. It was the one at "JoJo's on 22" and it was purposed to announce to our local classmates that planning
had begun on the reunion. There were about 40 in attendance, one of our biggest informal gatherings that
have been occurring over the previous two years. It was the first time I had seen Keith and Joyce in decades
and it was a pleasant surprise to see them there. I vividly remember talking to them. We had just started our
planning for the reunion around that time and we were all looking forward to seeing each other at future
planning meetings and on September 23, 2017 at the 50th Reunion. But then, suddenly, only 2 weeks away
from the reunion, Joyce passed. We were and still are saddened. You can read more about Joyce in this
article, “Remembering Joyce M. (Donato) Zeiger, Suddenly, We Are Changed”.

Jeanine Wack Fortney Leil had his reunion last weekend, I didn't make it but his
cousin who went to school with him went in my place.
Linda Kohr We held the actual reunion the night before and we had about 102
classmates in attendance. It was great,
Linda Kohr Yes, it is Kathy's class. I sent Kathy a message that I went on a tour
of the new McDevitt building and in the glass display cases, there
were items from all the different years. A little picture of Kathy was
in the 60's display case. I told her that she is now in the McDevitt Hall
of Fame.
Linda Kohr Next year, we are having an All Year Reunion. It would be great if
Kathy would be able to attend. I think it might be September or after.
Gigi Luto Linda I hope you got some good shots...I hardly took any 😢
Linda Kohr I didn't take any.....I have dumb phone and it doesn't take good
pictures. I'm hoping other classmates who took pictures will post the
on FB.

Congratulations to the Reunion Committee and all who attended our 50th Class
Reunion in at Bishop McDevitt High School in Harrisburg PA this past weekend!
It was a magical three days,
from the Football Game and Pub on Friday,
to the Cocktails and Dinner on Saturday,
through the Mass and Tour of the new high school, on Sunday!
Thanks also to my classmates from Saint Catherine's for inviting me to their luncheon
on Sunday after the tour.
What a brilliant group of people. I can truly say our class made a positive impact on the
world.
It was very moving and somewhat bittersweet, but I was delighted to make so many
wonderful connections with my classmates.

“18 Statements” In Our Yearbook
The Theme of Peace
To The Classmates, Class of 1967 of Bishop McDevitt High School
In preparing for our 50th
Class Reunion, we can go to our senior yearbook, Pridwen 1967, to look for what it
said about our class; to see if there is something there that spoke to us from 1967. What is found turns out to be
quite interesting and profound.
The purpose of a high school yearbook is to highlight all the students, all the faculty, all the special activities
during the year, and special accomplishments of students, classes, and organizations. Pridwen 1967 does that.
As we page through Pridwen 1967, we can discover something else that can be understood to be quite unique
and quite profound.
In our search to discover something spoken by the Class of 1967, we found 18 statements distributed
throughout the book. In a review of those statements, we discover that the 18 statements seem to converge
around one main theme of Pridwen 1967 – PEACE – PEACE on Earth and Peace in Individual Hearts.
Here is how we can arrive at that conclusion.
• OPENING, CLOSING, AND DEDICATION TO PEACE
On the inside of the front cover is this opening statement for PEACE on Earth:
PEACE ON EARTH, which men of every era have eagerly yearned for, .........Inside Front Cover
can be firmly established only if the order laid down by God be dutifully observed.
On the inside of the back cover is this closing statement that is a Prayer for PEACE in the hearts of men
and women:
May He banish from the hearts of men whatever might endanger PEACE, ......Inside Back Cover
May He transform them into witnesses of truth, justice, and brotherly love.
Thus, we have Pridwen 1967 opening with PEACE and closing with PEACE.
Then, on Page 2, we find our dedication of Pridwen 1967 to PEACE by this statement:
Dedicated to Peace – among nations, among races, in the heart. ..........................................Page 2
From that, we see the beginnings of a framework for what is to being said by the Class of 1967.
• CENTRAL STATEMENTS ABOUT EVERY HUMAN BEING AND GOD
As we further study the 18 statements, we find 4 that can be considered to be central to the theme of PEACE.
Human beings have the right and duty to live in communion with one another....................Page 4
Every man has the right to life, to bodily integrity. ................................................................Page 6
Peace I leave with you; My Peace I give to you.................................................................... Page 7
Social Life in the modern world is varied, complex, and dynamic.......................................Page 11
We will delve into the meaning of these 4 statements later in this writing. What we should see now is
“the order of the statements”. We open Pridwen 1967 with a statement about PEACE on Earth that is
followed by our dedication to PEACE for Pridwen 1967, which is then followed by 4 central statements
about PEACE. Thus, we are being setup for what comes next – Curricullum.

• CURRICULUM – THE FOUNDATION FOR THE BISHOP McDEVITT STUDENT
After the opening statement, dedication, and central statements, the order of Pridwen 1967 now
brings us to 10 statements about the curriculums of study that were available to students and what they
could mean to the students. After assessing the 10 statements, one for each area of study, we can conclude
that the areas of study are the foundation for the Bishop McDevitt Student upon which to learn, and thus,
create a platform from which to launch their endeavors to pursue PEACE on Earth and Peace in Individual
Hearts. Though the studies in Secretarial Sciences and Home Economics may seem out moded by today’s
standards, what their statements say is still relevant to today and the future.
Thus, in the Curriculum section of Pridwen 1967, we have 10 topics of study, each with it’s own statement
of wisdom that can contribute to the pursuit of PEACE on Earth and Peace in Individual Hearts.

• WHAT’S OUR PURPOSE IN THIS ENDEAVOR?
At this time, our 50th
Class Reunion, we can explore the significance of what was stated in our yearbook.
The 18 statements hold the wisdom we want to extract.
So, let’s explore further what WE said in Pridwen 1967. We will start by giving a view of all 18 statements
as seen in Pridwen 1967 including a list of all 18 statements followed by a tabulation of the scanned pages
of Pridwen where the statements appear. Adjacent to each scanned pic is the statement found on that page.
You are invited to parouse all 18 statements and ponder them. You are invited to consider what was being
said by us in those statements and what were our concerns, wishes, goals, and desires.
