This vBrownBag TechTalk from VMworld EMEA discusses VMware's vNUMA architecture and how it matters to your large SQL Server and other business-critical applications. Performance and 'right-sizing' methodologies are discussed in this short tech talk.
This technical session shows how to configure the new SQL Server 2017 release on the Linux platform for production-ready architecture, including topics such as setting up additional drives and backing up over the network.
Comparing Dell Compellent network-attached storage to an industry-leading NAS...Principled Technologies
A flexible NAS solution addresses many organizational challenges from server backup to hosting production applications and databases. Advanced NAS solutions such as the Intel Xeon processor-based Dell Compellent FS8600 NAS provide flexibility and scalability, allowing various use options as well as drive options throughout its lifecycle. This scale and flexibility enables an organization to alleviate performance bottlenecks anywhere in the organization simply by reallocating or adding more disk resources.
We found that the Intel Xeon processor-based Dell Compellent FS8600 NAS solution backed up a small-file corpus up to 15.9 percent faster and a large-file corpus up to 17.1 percent faster than a similarly configured, industry-leading NAS solution. This means that selecting the Dell Compellent FS8600 NAS has the potential to help optimize an organization’s infrastructure.

Manage and support HP-UX, Linux, and VMware ESX servers in addition to SAN arrays and switches.
Technical lead for the SQL Server virtualization project, which resulted in the consolidation of 33 physical database servers to 8
ESX servers and significantly reduced licensing costs. Responsible for all aspects of design and implementation, including
storage architecture and provisioning more than 35 TB of disk capacity.
Supported the rollout of a multi-tiered, internally developed CRM application. Provided architecture options, procured and
installed hardware, provisioned HP-UX on Integrity blade servers from an Ignite golden image to ensure consistency between
environments, provisioned application and database storage, and managed certificate requirements on the Tomcat servers.
Prepare server and storage devices for the annual DIACAP audit. In addition to the requirement for monthly operating system
patching, this exhaustive security-focused process takes several months to complete and is required to maintain the Authority
to Operate accreditation from the U.S. Department of Defense.
Selected to remain with TriWest for nine months past the expiration of the DoD contract, in order to provide transitional and
shutdown support for the HP-UX, Linux, ESX, and storage environments.
Systems Engineer/Architect
Best Western International, Inc.
September 1999 – June 2007
Provided engineering level support for a mission-critical UNIX environment that included multiple HP Superdomes, MC/Service
Guard clustering, Sun Solaris, Red Hat Linux, RLX blade servers, two HP XP512 disk arrays, SAN directors and switches, and
distance data replication.
As a member of the Systems Architecture group, provided input for strategic direction and capacity planning. Provided
support for web based reservation systems, Oracle database administrators, and Development and Quality Assurance
departments. Participated in strategic design reviews, architecture specifications, and infrastructure upgrade planning.
Lead engineer for the migration of the core UNIX infrastructure components from Compaq Alphaservers and StorageWorks to
HP servers, storage, SAN devices, and tape backup. Coordinated resources and performed much of the hands-on work
required for the forklift platform refresh. Participated in the design of test plans and executed them. Worked closely with the
engineering staff and Hewlett-Packard to develop an optimized storage strategy for Oracle databases.
Implemented the first production Compaq fibre channel storage area network in the Phoenix area (Alphaservers, Brocade
switches, and HSG80 disk controllers).
UNIX System Administrator
Motorola / ON Semiconductor
