Eric Bowman from the Northwest Cooperative Development Center gave a presentation on cooperative businesses and case studies. He discussed how cooperatives are member-owned and benefit and controlled. Case studies included Organic Valley, a large organic dairy cooperative, Country Natural Beef, a meat marketing cooperative, and Montana Bunkhouse Working Ranch Vacations, a cooperative that connects ranchers with tourists. The key points were that the case cooperatives were formed out of economic need, market their values and philosophy, and have innovated and reinvented themselves successfully.
