EPOS has been designed with the vision of creating a pan-European infrastructure for solid Earth science to support a safe and sustainable society. In accordance with this scientific vision, the EPOS mission is to integrate the diverse and advanced European Research Infrastructures for solid Earth science relying on new e-science opportunities to monitor and unravel the dynamic and complex Earth System. EPOS will enable innovative multidisciplinary research for a better understanding of the Earth’s physical and chemical processes that control earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, ground instability and tsunami as well as the processes driving tectonics and Earth’s surface dynamics. To accomplish its mission, EPOS is engaging different stakeholders, not limited to scientists, to allow the Earth sciences to open new horizons in our understanding of the planet. Metadata provides information about spatial data and is a key component of spatial data infrastructures (SDIs). The INSPIRE Directive mandates metadata for specific spatial themes. It requires metadata to be created and kept up to date according to timelines. INSPIRE metadata must conform to technical guidelines based on ISO 19115 and 19119 standards but conformance to ISO does not guarantee conformance to INSPIRE. The Plan4All project aims to implement INSPIRE metadata requirements for specific themes and define an overall spatial planning metadata profile.

Multivariate correspondence analysis is then applied to the clustered metadata table to produce groups of articles focusing on different IR content themes. Combining document clustering with multivariate analysis provides a more efficient reflection of themes in the journal articles.

Enabling Data-Intensive Science Through Data Infrastructures
These slides are from a talk given at LIBER's 42nd annual conference by Carlos Morais Pires of the European Commission.
In light of the current data deluge, and plans by the European Commission to harness this deluge through the implementation of e-infrastructures for data driven science under Horizon 2020, Pires issued a call to action to libraries to engage in the data infrastructure and bring their own unique, and now much needed competencies, to bear in bringing meaning to, and spreading the word about, data-driven science.

This document discusses using multiple techniques to cluster a set of international affairs journal articles based on metadata and term frequencies. It examines nearly 125 articles from a Turkish journal over 5 years. The articles are grouped using hierarchical clustering on frequent IR terms identified via text mining. Metadata includes author origin, orientation, topic, and theoretical perspective. Multivariate correspondence analysis is then applied to the clustered metadata table to produce groups of articles focusing on different IR content themes. Combining document clustering with multivariate analysis provides a more efficient reflection of themes in the journal articles.

The meet-up will be hosted by Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), a research university specializing in engineering science & technology.
Power Grid Model
The global energy transition is placing new and unprecedented demands on Distribution System Operators (DSOs). Alongside upgrades to grid capacity, processes such as digitization, capacity optimization, and congestion management are becoming vital for delivering reliable services.
Power Grid Model is an open source project from Linux Foundation Energy and provides a calculation engine that is increasingly essential for DSOs. It offers a standards-based foundation enabling real-time power systems analysis, simulations of electrical power grids, and sophisticated what-if analysis. In addition, it enables in-depth studies and analysis of the electrical power grid’s behavior and performance. This comprehensive model incorporates essential factors such as power generation capacity, electrical losses, voltage levels, power flows, and system stability.
Power Grid Model is currently being applied in a wide variety of use cases, including grid planning, expansion, reliability, and congestion studies. It can also help in analyzing the impact of renewable energy integration, assessing the effects of disturbances or faults, and developing strategies for grid control and optimization.
