Since

a
lot

been
a

positive
influence.
Now
I
am
proud
to
say

I

Pioneer
Toastmasters’

for
2016-‐2017!
I
am
excited
to
give
back
to
the
club
and
people
who
have
helped
me
so
much
in
the
past
three
years.
I
am
not
alone
in
this
leadership
role.
I
have
six
amazing
people
working
with
me
to
lead
the
club
to
new
heights.
Each
brings
enthusiasm
and
new
ideas.
I
feel
blessed
and
grateful
to
have
them
working
with
me.

If we learn from our mistakes, why are we always

Inspiration from one of our 2016 members:
Before
I
joined
Toastmasters,
I
"quivered
like
a
scared
little
bird"
during
interviews
and
whispered
during
meetings
if
I
talked
at
all.
It
took
a
lot
of
self-‐work
to
walk
into
my
first
Toastmasters
meeting
in
2016.
I
knew
I
would
have
to
face
my
fears
head
on.
Not
only
does
Toastmasters
provide
a
structured
meeting
and
positive
peer
support
during
progressive
assignments
in
public
speaking,
leadership
skills
and
networking;
I
find
joy
during
each
meeting.
Why
did
I
wait
so
long?

Confession!
Twice
a
year,
Deborah
announced
the
dates
for
the
Toastmasters
Leadership
Institute
(TLI).
This
is
a
half-‐day
of
Club
Officer
Training.
With
enthusiasm,
Deborah
clearly
informed
us
that
this
is
a
great
experience
to
attend,
even
if
we
are
not
training
for
an
upcoming
officer
role.
I
always
believed
her
and
every
time
I
considered
going…
but
here
is
my
confession…
I
talked
myself
out
of
it,
because
I
visualized
people
recruiting
at
the
door.
I
wasn’t
ready
to
step
up
to
an
officer
role.
Therefore,
I
didn’t
want
to
attend
the
TLI
and
chance
getting
approached
by
smooth
recruiters…
To
clarify,
this
fear
was
not
based
on
the
actions
of
any
Toastmaster;
it’s
a
reflection
of
my
past
experiences
with
volunteering.
While
attending
the
TLI,
I
was
ecstatic
being
there!
At
our
Pioneer
meetings,
we
have
a
lot
of
fun
and
high
energy
every
Wednesday.
Sometimes
I
think
only
our
club
has
this
much
fun….
another
confession….
Well
the
TLI
also
has
ecstatic
energy!
The
agenda
consisted
of
a
keynote
speaker,
followed
by
two
breakout
sessions.
The
breakout
sessions
consist
not
only
of
the
officer
training
classes,
but
also
of
speakers
on
general
Toastmaster
topics.
Therefore,
you
can
attend
the
whole
event
receiving
motivating,
inspiring
speeches
and
dodge
the
officer
training
classes.
Side
note,
I
did
enjoy
the
VP
Public
Relations
training,
too.
The
classes
are
short
and
sweet.
They
got
to
the
point
while
leaving
time
for
Q&A
and
group
discussions.
I
left
the
conference
feeling
inspired
and
energized
while
still
having
most
of
Saturday
available
to
play.
So
the
question
is,
how
do
we
convince
you
to
take
half
of
your
Saturday
to
be
inspired?
Keep
an
ear
out
for
Valerie’s
announcement
of
the
next
TLI!
