10. Components used in all Panels
Volt meter (VM)
Volt meter measures electrical potential (voltage)
between two points in electrical circuit.
Basically it measures voltage between phase to
phase and phase to neutral. Show in fig.
Ammeter (AM)
An ammeter is measuring instrument used to
measure the current in a circuit.
It measures current in Amperes. Show in fig.

11. Indication Light
Auto / Manual Selector Switch
Indication lights are used to indicates phase power
(R-Y-B), on-off-trip indication and many more
indications as per requirement.
It is basically worked on 230V AC, 110 AC.
A/M switch is used to operate panel from PLC
command that is auto by turning the knob of switch
toward AUTO and to operate panel from driven
push-button by turning the knob of switch towards
MANUAL.

12. Miniature Circuit Breaker
CT short link
It is a device used to make and break an electrical
circuit. Basically it provides protection against the
overload, short circuit and so on.
It comes with different ratings such as 2A, 4A, 6A,
10A, 16A, 32A.
It is used to create an intermediate contact point
between the meters and load where it is safe to
perform wiring alterations.
It also used to measure currents directly by
connecting two probes at their plugs.

13. APFC meter
It measures the reactive power (KVAR) phase wire
and KVAR that it needs to generate from its
capacitor banks to achieve the desired power factor.
The meter selects the most optimal combination of
capacitors present with each phase.
APFC Meter
14. Component used in Low Tension (L.T) Panel
LT Breaker
Generally in LT panel ACB (Air Circuit
Breaker) is used.
ACB is an automatically operated
electrical switch that uses air to protect an
electrical circuit from damage caused by
excess current from an overload or short
circuit.
ACB comes with ratings such as 800A,
1600A, 3200A and 4000A.
Fig. LT Breaker
15. Contactor
It is an electromechanical switch whose
function is to make or break the
connection between the power supply and
the load.
It will energize the core to move the
armature and close the contacts and make
the circuit on.
It also used in control circuit by mounting
required NO and NC contacts on
contactor.
Contactor
16. Molded Case Circuit Breaker
MCCB stands for Molded Case Circuit
Breaker.
It is used to provide protection against
overload, short circuit faults and is also
used for switching the circuits.
It comes with ratings such as 32A, 63A,
160A and many more.
Current Transformer
CT is used to measure the current passing
through a wire.
Generally, round type CT is used in panel
manufacturing. It will give the output
(Current) measured to an Ammeter and
Multifunctional Meter.

17. Products
Types of Panel
Company makes following types of electrical panels.
1) L.T Panels
1. Automatic power factor correction panel (APFC)
2. Power control center panel (PCC)
3. Motor control center panel (MCC)
18. Low Tension Panel
Automatic Power Factor Correction Panel (APFC)
APFC stands for Automatic Power Factor Control
Panel.
The Contactor Based & Thyristor based APFCR
Panel included with suitable Capacitor Banks,
Switchgears & Suitable APFC Relay to maintain
Power factor.
APFC panel is used between the power lines
coming out from a step down transformer of
11KV/440V that is output of 440V AC and PCC
panel.
APFC panel is used to maintain the power factor
of voltage.
Due to the low power factor machinery consumes
more reactive power which leads to higher power
consumption and increases the Bill Amount.
That’s why the APFC panel is used.

19. Components used in APFC Panel
1) MCB
2) MCCB
3) Contactor
4) Auto/Manual Selector switch
5) On/Off Selector Switch
6) Indication light
7) Fuse tb
8) Capacitor bank
20. Power Control Center Panel (PCC)
PCC stands for POWER CONTROL CENTER.
It is used in industry to control power supply to different MCC panel. It gets
the input from APFC panel (if used) or directly from transformer and gives it’s
output to input of MCC panel.
It is used to supervise and control the voltage and reactive power of the power
system.
PCC panel contains two inputs that is one from Transformer and second from
DG unit.
Whenever the main supply is interrupted the PCC panel takes supply from DG
unit that means in PCC panel the interlocking is used between Transformer
input supply and DG unit input supply.
22. Components used in PCC Panel
1) LT Breaker
2) CT Short Link
3) Contactor
4) Auto/Manual Selector switch

11) VMR ( Voltage Monitoring Relay)
23. Motor Control Center Panel (MCC)
MCC stands for Motor Control Center.
MCC panel takes input from the PCC panel and gives output to the different
plant motor to operate plant effectively.
It is used to control motor from one central location.
MCC panel have different starter such as DOL starter, Star-Delta starter, Soft
Starter, VFD starter and it also contains direct feeder such as 32A MCCB
feeder, 63A MCCB feeder, 160A MCCB feeder and many more.
Also the PLC command facility is provided in panel to operate the motor using
logical programs.
MCC panel also can be controlled from PCC panel.

25. Testing
Testing By Giving The 3-Phase Supply
In this testing, the 3-phase supply and 1-phase control supply is given to the
panel.
After that as per control wiring diagram below mentioned points are checked.
1) Check the main supply and their indication.
2) Check incomer ON-OFF-TRIP indication.
3) For all feeders check the ON-OFF-TRIP is working accurately and
also check their indications.
4) Check the output voltage of the feeder.
5) Set parameters of all meters used.
6) Take ON-OFF feedback as per control circuit diagram.
29. Conclusion
I can confidently state that my internship with VD AUTOMATION AND
ENGINEERING Company was one of the most enjoyable summers of my college
experience. Not only did I gain practical skills, but I also got to meet a lot of interesting
people.
The atmosphere at VD AUTOMATION AND ENGINEERING was always friendly and
welcoming, making me feel right at home. When I made mistakes during my training
period, I received criticism and advice from my mentor. However, those advices are
useful guidance for me to change myself and avoid myself making the same mistakes
again. Apart from that, I had also improved panel manufacturing ,operation and
maintenance and installation of panels skills by creating a series of themes.
I have been able to meet and network with so many people that I am sure will be able to
help me with opportunities in the future.
I learned lots of thing during the internship and I enjoyed a lot. The greatest experience I
earned.
