2. Third Conditional If + Past Perfect Would + Present Perfect
Use it to describe a situation that didn’t happen, and
to imagine the results of this situation.
• If she had studied harder, she would have passed the
exam (but she didn’t study, and so she didn’t pass).
• If I hadn’t eaten so mucho, I wouldn’t have felt sick
(but I did eat a lot, and so I did feel sick).
• If I had seen him at the meeting, I might have asked
him (but I’m not sure. Perhaps if the opportunity had
arisen.)
