This document summarizes key points from an I4Ed presentation on building a personal learning network (PLN) and using technology in the classroom. It stresses the importance of contributing to and learning from others in a PLN by sharing knowledge through blogging or Twitter. Google Docs is highlighted as a useful collaborative tool. Additional topics covered include educating students on internet safety, the benefits of podcasts and infographics, and adapting teaching methods to incorporate students' personal devices in the classroom while also addressing issues like cyberbullying.
2. Confused but mostly unimpressed with the
fact that I knew nothing
3. Building your "PLN" or personal learning
network is key to being a 21st Century
Educator.
You're learning from others, so others can
learn from you
4. As you find and use resources from your PLN you
have to contribute something back to the world.
Give away your knowledge. Someone, somewhere
may learn from your ideas or your mistakes. As you
share your knowledge you are sure to learn great
things.
5. Blogging is a simple way of sharing things you have
learned or resources you have found. You can
express thoughts and ideas (in more than 140
characters) and others can read, learn and
comment. A simple task that can be used in any
class.
6. Twitter is a great start to my ever growing PLN
The power of the hashtag is great. And when you
figure out how to use it, the possibilities are
endless.
7.
8. google docs has changed the way I do collaborative
projects for the rest of my life. It saves the hassle
of trying to work around everyone's schedules to
meet and write up a piece of work or put together a
presentation.
9. the most important task as a "21st Century
Connected Teacher" is to educate our
students on all aspects of the internet
10. The internet has endless resources for teachers. As
I learned in this class, sometimes they seem a little
complicated and I would rather forget about them
then learn how to figure them out. But I’ll accept
the challenge non the less
11. I now love podcasts, Why did it take me so long to
figure this out
Videos are fun to watch, and a great activating
strategy
12. I love infographics so much,
and I was excited to learn how to make
my own. I will definitely use this idea in
the classroom.
13. With the BYOD policies being implemented in many schools,
students have plenty of information right at their fingers. As
teachers we have to see that our role has changed because of
technology and we can take this opportunity to learn with
them, and challenge them to find the correct and most useful
information
14. Cyber bullying is becoming a big issue, it is
not as prevalent as the media portrays it to
be. But with BYOD policies being
implemented in may start being a more real
issue. As teachers we must be cognisant of
the issues that are arising involving bullying
and technology
15. Connectivism is a “learning theory for the
digital age” Siemens
Learning is a matter of accessing and co-
constructing knowledge. Knowledge is
transmitted, and constantly under change
and review
16. “Communities of Practice” they are "groups of
people who share a concern or passion for
something they do and learn how to do it
better as they interact regularly“
I share the passion of teaching and I hope I
can learn with others on how to do this so I
can impact as many people as possible
18. feeling more comfortable with using
technology in a classroom setting and pretty
happy about it
