The Potential Benefits Of Cloning
Cloning
Cloning has been one of the most widely discussed and controversial scientific topics in the past
decade. Cloning has been applied in many fields including the creation of new breeds of plants
and animals. However, the cloning of plants has been practiced for hundreds of years. Cloning can
be done on a larger level in animals and has potential benefits. The general process of cloning is to
take one cell from the parent making the offspring and parent genetically identical (Tsunoda and
Kato, 158 161). In addition by making completely identical cells, we can apply different
treatments to different clones to see if they react in different ways. The potential benefits of
cloning out way the consequences of cloning. In this paper I will first elaborate on
microorganisms. Then I will talk about plants, animal and human cloning, and the controversies in
cloning. Introductory work in Microorganisms Bacteria and yeast produce clones of themselves
naturally through the process of binary fission, which results in two identical daughter cells
(Boundless). Since their simple reproductive system and life cycle, they are natural hosts in
development of different more advanced methods of cloning. Bacteria and yeasts can be cloned in
a matter of hours, which make them ideal for studying because of their rapid reproduction abilities.
Bacteria and yeast were originally studied as models for cloning and still are. Plant Cloning

Analysis Of Soltice And Ransom By Tracy K. Smith
In her collection of poetry Life on Mars, Tracy K. Smith brings real world problems into focus
with Solstice and Ransom . The main idea in Solstice is the geese that forced the Hudson River
plane crash in New York, while Smith writes of the Somalian pirates and sea pollution in
Ransom . However, these are just the literal meanings behind the two poems that have deeper
meanings relating to the state of the world and how humans are playing a role in it, politically
and physically. There is a constant struggle in the poems Solstice and Ransom that where there
is always an underdog, whether it be protesters attempting to make a change or Somalian pirates
fighting back because their fishing waters have been corrupted. A main connection between
these poems include their connection to the time period that Tracy K. Smith s father passed
away towards the end of 2008. Because of how emotional and tragic this time period was to
Smith, she holds onto the shreds of hope she had during that time, including two major events
portrayed in the poems. The literal meaning behind the poem Solstice is the geese that caused
flights to be disrupted at the JFK airport. These geese also flew into pilot Chesley Sully
Sullenberger and killed all engine power, making him perform a miracle crash landing into the
Hudson river. Ransom captures the story of Somalian pirates and why they have naturally been
forced into hijacking ships to make a living. The Maersk Alabama hijacking in early

The Separation Process Of Naphthalene And Benzoic Acid
Naphthalene and benzoic acid are two compounds studied in this experiment. Sodium benzoate is
also an important substance involved in the separation process. The separation technique used to
extract the different compounds of a heterogeneous mixture is based on solubility and density.
Regarding naphthalene and benzoic acid, their chemical properties differ from one another
(Separation 1). The detailed separation process of naphthalene and benzoic acid, found in a mixture,
follows. First of, when mixed together, benzoic acid and sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) react and
produce sodium benzoate, water and carbon dioxide (Separation 2).
Water has a particular density and naphthalene, as well as benzoic acid, are insoluble in water.
Regarding naphthalene, it does not react with sodium bicarbonate, but it dissolves in ether ()
(Separation 2). Thus, by adding sodium bicarbonate and ether to the benzoic acid naphthalene
mixture, one is left with immiscible aqueous sodium benzoate and naphthalene in ether solutions.
Furthermore, ether is less dense than water and so, an ether layer floats on water as the two
solvents are mixed (U of Missouri). Next, Pasteur pipettes are used to mix thoroughly the resulting
solution, so that the two distinct layers form into a centrifuge tube. As ether floats on water, it is
found at the top layer, whereas sodium benzoate, which contains the converted amount of benzoic
acid, is found in the water bottom layer of the centrifuge container ( Separation

Relationships In The House Of The Spirits
Isabel Allende s The House of the Spirits
In many novels, relationships shape a character. Throughout Isabel Allende s The House of the
Spirits dissimilar individuals constantly come together to form relationships that change or develop
their disposition. While Allende uses relationships to build upon a character, she also depicts a
character s living environment in order to confirm their true soul and lifestyle. Due to the
observation of both relationships and environments, a character s true qualities are expressed to a
reader. The relationship between two individuals, Ferula and Clara, proves itself a positive product
of the union of differing people. Through analysis of Ferula s home and close observation of her
bond with Clara, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ferula grew up always caring for others before herself. She assumed the role of her brother?s
(Esteban) mother due to the fact that her mother fell ill. She ?slept with him, bathed him, took
him for strolls, and did other people?s sewing from dawn till dusk to pay for his schooling?(42).
Ferula felt an obligation to raise her younger brother, and in doing so, sacrificed her life for his
benefit. Instead of giving to herself, Ferula felt compelled to give of herself in hopes to provide
Esteban with everything she could.
After Esteban
reached manhood, Ferula?s life became geared to helping another member of her family, her
mother. She felt constrained to giving up her own happiness and her own adult life in order to
?accept the role of her mother?s nurse?(42). By the time Ferula could realize what happened, her
life became ?painted in drab colors?. Just as the houses in Ferula?s neighborhood became ?drab?,
everyday of Ferula?s life became a monotonous routine. A routine where Ferula ?was ready at any
moment to run in and administer her mother?s potions, hold her bedpan, or straighten her

Due to her constant compulsions to aid her family, Ferula lost many great parts of her life. She
turned down two suitors, ?two windows? which would have allowed her to escape from her

Food Inc Research Paper
Semester Paper: Food, Inc.
The way we eat has changed more in the last 50 years, than in the previous 10,000. Michael
Pollan, Food inc. This single statement paints a vivid picture in ones mind. Not only is the way
we grow our food changing, but we are also changing our bodies. According to the documentary
Food, Inc , in the 1950 s, it would take farmers about 68 days to fully grow a chicken. Now? It
takes about 47 days to fully grow a chicken, and it is twice as big due to the fact that these
chickens are injected with hormones. While this literally brings more food to the table, it might not
be worth it in the long run.
There are many advantages as well as disadvantages that come with the industrialization of food.

cost. They were about $8.00. I bought them anyway and then i went back to see how much the

born into an upper middle class family, but what about those who aren t? I know families in
homeless shelters (i volunteer every year, Bergen County s Point In Time in the homeless shelter
in hackensack) who wish they could feed their children that was good for them but they cannot,
simply because they cannot afford it. I might become a locavore in the future, when I m able to
live on my own and have my loans paid off.
In all, i feel that we, as americans should change something about what we eat. I feel that if we
stop buying genetically modified food, then maybe someone will listen. Maybe, just maybe,
farmers will hear our calls and answer them. I understand that this takes a lot of guts to do so and
it may affect our pockets, but it may be worth it in the long run. Organic food is always healthier for

1.What is competition like in the value added seafood industry? What competitive forces seem to
have the greatest effect on industry attractiveness from the standpoint of packaged seafood
producers?
The competitive environment in the value added seafood industry, while not significantly
threatening, does still have its challenges. Addison and Rathle acknowledge that there is not a large
competitive market for their specific area, although there are four or five that market gumbo. They
acknowledgee that their largest competitors are all the other food items in the store that can be
purchased. This also relates to marketing competition as Azalea used a food broker and

Also, this increased competition among grocers resulted in some going out of business resulting
in loss of sales for those vendors. Also, these large grocery chains demands exceeded the ability
for small food companies to provide products in such large volume. This forced these small
businesses to focus more on smaller markets and also to identify niches in the market that could be
exploited. Small restaurants and food chains now became major purchasers of these products. Also,
the frequency of the average American eating out increased further adding to the attractiveness of
vendor sales to restaurateurs. Also, certain businesses expanded to meet these large demand
markets in the grocery and restaurant market. These state of the art production facilities threatened
smaller companies without a competitive product or established market. All of these changes
resulted in certain drivers coming to the forefront. The first would be the need to reduce volatility.
Competitors in the market would need to select markets wisely to reduce the risk of not being
competitive or the uncertainty of the marketability of their product. They also would need to
increase their ability to diversify into different products. Large food companies may monopolize a
certain product making it necessary for other companies to become creative in developing other
products or marketing strategies. On the plus side, the ability of a company

How New Technologies Impacted The Purchasing Habits Of The...
The rapid growth in technological capability, accessibility and usability during recent memory is
undeniable: in January 2015, almost 42% of the world s population had access to the internet,
there were 2.08 billion active social media accounts worldwide, mobile cellular internet
penetration was on an all time high with approximately 3 billion unique mobile users, including
more than 70% penetration in many emerging markets and developing nations worldwide. This
widespread prevalence comes with the ability to manifest market power and influence buying
decisions on a new, much larger scale. This essay will analyse in what ways new technologies
have impacted the purchasing habits of the public, their effects on the consumer decision making
process and how, if at all, marketers can utilise these new technologies in their favour and
influence consumers preferences. Purchasing behaviour varies depending on factors such as time
available for deliberation and decision making, the involvement in the purchase and the number of
options and alternatives. Despite the exact process adopted being unknown, there is a standard
known as the consumer decision making process, or CDP that many purchases follow. The first
step is need recognition, or becoming aware of a problem that can be solved by purchasing a
certain product. These can be functional needs, serving as a solution to a physical problem (such as
refuelling a vehicle), or alternatively fulfil emotional needs, including

Dr. Bronner s Magic Soaps
Executive Summary Dr. Bronner s Magic Soaps has the capability to expand into Tanzania based
on its key resources and strengths in the company. Tanzania is the right country to enter because of
recent economic and urban development with a need for the product. Dr. Bronner s will have to be
aware of the competitive rivalry and threat of substitutes in the industry to be successful. Also, the
political, economical and social factors must be taken seriously before entering.
Introduction
Dr. Bronner s Magic Soap, the number one selling organic soap in North America has expanded into
twenty nine different countries. However, an expansion into Tanzaniawould be the first movement
into a country in Africa for the family owned business. There is great complexity in expanding into
a new country, but certainly when it is a new continent. After analyzing the company and the
product in the first installment, I will be now evaluating the country and the industry using a Porter
s five forces analysis and PESTLE analysis.
Country Analysis Tanzania is a developing nation located in East Africa in the African Great Lakes
region. Despite its low per capita income, Tanzania has established a significant growth rate in the
last several years. There are several reasons Dr. Bronner s Magic Soap should invest in the country
due to projected economic development, future urbanization, intriguing cities to invest, and a
serious need for the product.

The decriminalization of marijuana is an incredibly controversial topic in the United States.

Studies have even shown THC to have anti tumoral properties. And even if you have not, there is an

marijuana to help ease their suffering. There are still others that aren t able to get help though
because their state forbids it, or they are too afraid of being caught by the federal government.
Although I admit that there are a lot of loop holes in this argument, I feel that I need to tell
everyone how far less dangerous marijuana is than already legal substances such as alcohol or
tobacco. Around 50,000 people die each year from alcohol poisoning. Similarly, more than 400,000
deaths each year are attributed to tobacco smoking. Someone would have to smoke over 1400
pounds of marijuana in less than 15 minutes to kill themselves which, needless to say, is impossible.
Everyone knows the detrimental effects smoking tobacco can have on the human body. And,
although fun, the consumption of alcohol doesn t really have any benefits either. Tobacco use leads
most commonly to diseases affecting the heart and lungs. A person that smokes puts themselves at
major risks for about a zillion deadly diseases including cancer and emphysema.

Social Movement Research Paper
To begin, the footage of the police s actions towards people like Michael Brown, Kajieme Powell,
and many other cases reveal the need for the six factors to help develop and support a social
movement. First, if they want to have a successful social movement they must obtain structural
plausibility. Meaning, if they want to produce and sustain a social movement, then they should have
a base or rights and equal freedoms obtained from our Founding Fathers. The structural plausibility
is in The Bill of Rights as it gives Americans freedoms and rights equally.Second, the structural
strain in this movement is the policestereotyping people of color by placing them into demeaning
categories such as suspicious, dangerous, and violent. Consequently, this... Show more content on

Forth, the precipitating event that prompted people to begin this movement is in videos showing
police abusing people of color without a legitimate reason. Furthermore, the increase of innocent
shootings of black people brought attention to Americans, the police, and even the President.
These shootings brought awareness and convinced others to put this serious issue to an end.
Fifth, the mobilization for action began from the community s desire for justice for what the
policemen did to many innocent black people. They started to intercede by creating protests and
bringing awareness to social media by using items such as hashtags. This showed in Michael
Brown s case when people began to organize protests called, No justice, no peace and hashtags, if
they gun me down as seen on Twitter (Complex News, 2014). People started to use social media
as their source of movement by revealing videos of the shootings and posts of the location of the
protests. Lastly, the President could not stop or silence the protesters and their voices other this

The Rise Of The Railroad System
At the start of every great advancement in society it is society itself that fails to realize the negative
repercussions the advancement might bring. While the rise of the railroad system through Texas
gave plenty of beneficial attributes, from faster transportation of goods and services to expansion of
Texan towns, which helped boom our population, it would seem that a number of things would be
drawbacks leading to the termination of many Texan ideologies. The railroad system stemmed
throughout Texasallowed many walks of life a deeper view of the Great Lone Star state. While
people from different ends of the country came seeking new life others came seeking new fortune
which lead to the demise of cowboys, instillation of cattle drives, and the Postbellum cattle boom.
In order to understand the negative attributes that the railroad brought we must go back and bring
our attention to the beginning which includes the original cowboys.
Despite the many riveting TV dramas that paint cowboys as fast men who love faster women
we now know in order to be historically accurate, we would have to trade these Clint Eastwood
fairy tales for less exciting ones of cowboys who were smelly lonely men who had no serious
work skills. These men would consist of workers who were generally under the age of twenty that
made 30 40$ a month. During this time period they would walk with and behind cattle for up to six

A public good is a good that individuals can consume without reducing its availability to other
individuals. These goods are typically referred to as nonrivalrous and nonexcludable. A
common resource or open access resource is a resource that provides users with tangible
benefits. A concern that common resources have is overuse. When talking about overuse it is
very natural to mention the free rider problem that many countries are facing and especially
Australia. The theory behind a free rider is a person who benefits from a good that possibly
have been made or paid for by others without contributing to the good themselves. In the Africa
Progress Panel s 2015 report, it was stated that Australia has gone from a leadership to a free
rider status when talking about climate diplomacy. It is believed that developed countries such
as Australia are causing the majority of the problem through for example gas emissions. A
research shows that many of the countries who are the ones creating the most gas emitting are
also the ones who are least vulnerable to climate change and are essentially the free riders. It is
here important to remember that a modern example of a common resource is climate stability.
The problem with Australia essentially being a free rider is that Australia is a country with a lot
of wildlife and nature. Many people travel to Australia to experience the nature and wildlife but if
they continue being free riders it can result in lower GDP and lower income per capita because the
wildlife and beautiful nature with high possibility would be ruined thus fewer people would want
to visit the country. An example of this would be the Great Barrier Reef who recently was

Corresponding Themes in Frankenstein and Blade Runner
Ridley Scott s film Blade Runner reflects some of the key themes seen in Mary Shelley s classic
novel Frankenstein. For one, both the sources touch on the necessity of creators taking
responsibility for their creations. Another key theme established in both works is the idea that
emotional complexity and knowledge, over memory and appearance, allow people to be defined as
human beings.
Throughout the novel Frankenstein, author Mary Shelley builds upon the theme that one must take
responsibility for the actions and well being of their creations. Protagonist Victor Frankenstein
consistently toils with the degree of responsibility he owes to the monster he created. Initially,
Frankenstein completely abandons his creation, as the creature notes when he says, Yet you, my
creator, detest and spurn me, thy creature... (Shelley 83). When the monster pleads for a female
counterpart, Victor says, I refused, and I did right in refusing, to create a companion... He showed
unparalleled malignity and selfishness in evil; he destroyed my friends... (Shelley 200). Victor
fails to sympathize with his creation and fails to understand that all creatures desire something
from their creator. A parallel theme of the disasters that occur when a creator doesn t take
responsibility for its creations can be found in the 1982 film Blade Runner. In this film, Eldon
Tyrell, the creator of the rogue Replicants, takes absolutely no responsibility for the danger he has
created when he relegates the job of

Most Appropriate Measure Of Center Of Statistical Data
The most appropriate measure of center of this data set would be the median, or the arithmetic
average. The median would be more suitable because the mean is more heavily influenced by
outliers. In a skewed distribution, the mean would be pulled more towards the tail of the data
where outliers exist, and the average value would be greater than that of the median. In this case,
using the 1.5 x IQR rule, any departure time less than 19.5 or greater than 16.5 is an outlier. Hence,
with multiple outliers present in the data, the median would not be influenced as heavily as the
mean by outliers, and would give a more accurate representation of the average value of the set.

If a point value is indicated by an equal or positive sign, this shows that the flight departed on
time or late. The chosen random variable would be discrete. Although the data set is a large
sample size of 500 values, it is still possible to list out all the outcomes of the data as a fixed set
and assign probabilities to them. The values for departure delay times are also inputted as whole
positive and negative integers with no decimal values. Decimal values are characteristic of a
continuous random variable for an infinite sample space. Therefore, this another indicator that a
discrete random variable would be ideal for a finite sample space. The binomial distribution
would be suitable for the underlying distribution of X because a data point must either lie within
or outside of the interval of a delayed departure. Hypothetically, if a value lies outside the range
of 10 and 130, then this would mean that the flight will cancelled. A flight cannot depart to its
destination too early or too late, as it would be considered an unreliable flight. Therefore, any
time of departure that exceeds 10 or 130 cannot exist. The probability that a flight will depart
early or on time is 71.0%. The probability that a flight will arrive late is 36.0%. The probability
that a flight departs late or arrives early is 83.4%. Compared to each individual events probabilities

Comparing Pisan s and Plato s Views on the Roles of Women...
Comparing Pisan s and Plato s Views on the Roles of Women
It is hardly fair to make a true judgement on whose view of women was more sensible. For one
reason Pisan was a women and Plato was a man. It has taken thousand of years for women to
accomplish equality towards men now so Pisan s view could be seen as before her time.
Although, Pisan s view seems more sensible I can see how Plato s view could also be sensible
for his time and place. In Christine De Pisan s The book of the city of ladies, in the beginning she
began to examine her own character as a natural women. She looked at women who surround her

After this was told to her she realized that those feeling that she felt in the beginning about how
they talked about women so badly. At the end her view was that women are capable of being
educated. Her idea is based upon smarts alone and not on physical nature. Her view of women
seems to be more sensible to me growing in the 20th century. We have learned over the years
that because you are a women does not mean that you are incapable of being equal to a man.
Although in physical strength men have gotten us by far mentally women are able to compete
with men. As for Plato s believes that men and women are not equal. He believes that men were
born and educated like citizens. He also believes that the only way of arriving at a right
conclusion about the possession and use of women and children is to follow the path on which we
originally started, when we said that the men were to be the guardians and watchdogs of the herd.
Plato also stated that the birth and education of women to be subject to similar or nearly similar
regulations. Then you shall see whether the result is in accordance with the male design. Plato then
states the question are dogs divided into hes and shes, or do they both share equally in hunting and
in keeping watch and in the other duties of dogs? Or do we entrust to the males the entire and
exclusive care of the flocks, while we leave the females at home, under the idea that the bearing and

Branding And Why Is Branding
WHAT IS BRANDING?
Branding is the process of using a word or an image to identify a company or its products. It is
what separates competitors and helps consumers remember a product. The purpose of a brand is to
increase sales by making the product or service the most visible and desired by the consumer.
Branding is becoming more than a logo or a product. It is becoming a promise of quality and
reputation! It encompasses everything about a company, sometimes good and sometimes bad,
depending on the public s perception.
WHY IS BRANDING IMPORTANT?
So what is branding and why is it so important for your business?
Branding separates competitors and makes consumers remember a product.
In today s fast paced world, it is more important than ever to promote recognition of a product or
service. If you re remembered as a quality provider, then you will be encouraging repeat business.
Branding is a great way to promote this recognition because people are busy and tend to adhere to
familiarity. If consumers recognize a brand that they have previously used and they remember being
satisfied with it, then they are more likely to choose that product or service again. This is especially
true in the tremendous amount of advertising going on today. ... Show more content on

Branding is intended to identify goods or services and deliver the message that a particular
organization, business, or product is the only one that can suit customers needs.
Branding goes way beyond just a logo or graphic element. When you think about your brand, you
really want to think about your entire customer experience. Everything from your logo, your
website, your social media experiences, the way you answer the phone, to the way your customers
experience your staff. When you look at this broad definition of branding, it can be a bit
overwhelming to think about what is involved in your brand.

Globally, numerous urban cities such as New York City and London have the issue of traffic

pollution in an area, most times, traffic congestion does communicate the approximate degree air
pollution lies at. Atlanta does have an honorable or rather, notorious mention of daily traffic

Theme Of Death In Hamlet
In Hamlet, playwright William Shakespeare intertwines the primary motifs of death, disease, and
decay into each scene of the play to create a distinct depiction of the corrupt state of Denmark
and Hamlet s all consuming pessimism by using the literary device of imagery. The word image
englobes any kind of simile; by using it, a poet or prose writer illustrates, illuminates and
embellishes his thought. Shakespeare is able to utilise this technique through various descriptions
or ideas which arouse emotions and associations in the mind of the reader. The images he uses are
incredibly rich and vivid that in they have the ability to form a different world for the audience.
Shakespeare s choice of metaphors and similes at any given moment in the play is determined by
the dramatic issues arising out of that moment. In the play, Shakespeare is able to accurately
illustrate the corrupt state of Denmark, as well as Hamlets profound pessimism which corrupts his
mind and soul. This is accomplished through the technique of imagery, particularly pertaining to the
motifs of death, disease and decay.
In this play, the image of death is introduced from the very beginning, in Act I, once the Ghostof
the old king Hamlet appears. In the plot, once the ghost is introduced, its role is to inform Hamlet
about a secret murder. As Hamlet did not witness the murder, there was no need to feign madness.
Shakespeare s use of images related to both ghosts and madness intensify the central motif of

Rayleigh BпїЅnard Fargination Problem
Rayleigh BГ©nard convection problem involves an unstable temperature gradient driving the pertur
bations to grow for a single fluid or even a mixture of fluids without phase transformation. However,
when the mixture of fluids involve phase transformation, apart from the cooling experienced by the
parcel as it relaxes to the temperature of its surrounding, it also experiences the latent heatrelease or
absorption associated with the phase transformation. Troposphere, the convectiondominated regime
of the atmosphere, has a temperature gradient of 70 K from 288 K at the surface to 222
K at the tropopause and the pressure also decreases exponentially with an e folding height of 7.64
km the combined effect of both pressure and temperature implies the phase transformation of the
water vapor. A rising parcel of air can have phase transformation of water vapor to liquid droplets
and ice particles, and further, the liquid droplets and ice particles can also transform back to the
vapor form. One would expect the effect of phase transformation can be captured as a source/sink
term in the energy equation, but the intricacy of the system is furthered by the momentum driving
characteristic of the moisture present in the atmosphere.
**Buckingham Pi analysis of a moist system reveals two additional dimensionless numbers, Ra v
and Le apart from Ra T , P r and Re, appearing in a single phase natural convection problem. The
dimensionless parameters are Lewis number (Le), Prandtl number(P r), moisture driven Rayleigh
number (Ra v ), analogous to thermally driven Rayleigh number(Ra T ) and Reynolds number(Re).
Of these 5 dimensionless numbers, Le and P r capture the properties of the fluid, Ra T and Ra v
represents the surrounding conditions and Re represents the nature of resulting flow.**
In atmosphere owing to the wide variety of processes and further limited by our measurement
capabilities, phenomena at fine ranges are not always captured. And MTU О chamber facilitates to
the investigation of this complex problem by a well controlled environment. A relevant example for
our is the isolation entrainment associated with the turbulence, thus ensuring the isomorphic nature
of dry and moist convection. To investigate the

Sexual Assaults On Campus Campuses
Most college campuses have no reports of sexual assaults on campus. This statistic is very
inaccurate. The current statistics are that 9% of campuses report that rapes have happened on
campus and the other 91% state that there has never been a rape on or around campus. Those
estimated numbers seem hard to believe. Especially with cases such as the victim of the Stanford
Rapist Brock Turner .
After a year of practically living in hell. Turner s victim had to face him in court on trial. Turner
and his defendant team tried to minimize the seriousness of the situation by stating that the accused
and the victim were under the influence of alcohol. Turner alleged could not be responsibility for
his actions because of the accused state of confusion to whether it was content or not. A year after
his original testimony Turner went on to say that it was indeed consensual and that the victim
enjoyed it.
The victim asked to give a statement directionally to her accuser. In this statement she described the
events that lead up to the assault. The victim s sister was home from school for the weekend and
they were having dinner with their parents. The sister had plans to attend a frat party with her
friends, however , the woman originally was going to stay home and watch tv. The plans changed
when she had decided to go along seeing her sister was home and she wanted to enjoy time with
her. On the way to the party the victim made jokes about being the oldest person at the party, once

Tim Burton’s Edward Scissorhands Essay
Tim Burton s Edward Scissorhands
Tim Burton s only accomplishment in Edward Scissorhands was creating a hackneyed version if
Beauty and the Beast set in middle suburbia. Major innovations were made in entertaining the
eyes for about two hours with contrasting scenery and 1950 s style home dГ©cor. Burton in
collaboration with Caroline Thompson, created a tale about an alluring, and uncooperative beauty
and a beast who falls in love with her. Predictably, the beast Edward (Depp), possesses innocence,
peace, and all those qualities that normally aren t expected for such a creature to have.
Additionally, the beauty Kim (Ryder) is the one of the few who can see through Edward s disguise.
Set in the 50 s in a seemingly nice suburban ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Edward has the face as they say only a mother could love and so both Peg and her husband (Arkin)
treat him as a normal adolescent while assuming his hands were a birth defect. He is soon
discovered when wonderful shrub work appear on the front lawns and gardens. Soon, Edward gains
fame around the community and his disability becomes a tool.
Burton s characters reflect the typical stereotypes about middle suburbia. Kim s parents are the
typical idealistic parents that believe anything can be fixed with a few dabs of facial cream and a
good helping of meatloaf. There is the curious little brother that becomes a nuisance as the beautiful
sister approaches her teens. The parents just hang back and see everything as just part of another
phase like ballerina lessons, and cowboys and Indians. Kim s boyfriend in the muscle head jock
set for Harvard with a rich dad going through a mid life crisis with a neo futuristic bachelor pad.
The neighbors are the typical nosey neighbors who fall into the Edward hair cut fad.
Much of the relationship between Kim and Edward revolves around the penetration of Edwards
psyche. As the creation of a mad scientist with the heart of gold, Edward in turn must have the
innocence of the child he meant to create. Much like Frankenstein, the true beauty of the monster is
hidden beneath the layer of physical horror and misunderstanding by the beholder. Burton explores
the debts of Edwards mind through his art because it

when launching new products into domestic markets as well as international markets. Establishing
a strategic communication plan will help the success rate of the launched product.

Evaluation: Technology Trends
There are a number of different avenues for marketing products, and choosing the right one to fit
the population is essential. One new marketing option that has become popular is online marketing;
because it is a new method the effectiveness in the market needs to be examined. Kudler Fine
Foods is launching fine wine sales in Brazil and China. The Miniwatts Marketing Group (2011)
website tracks Internet access of citizens of different countries, and in the United States 77.3% of
the population has Internet access. Brazil has 36.2%, and China that has 31.6% of the population
with Internet access. Online interactive marketing would reach a large market share within the
United States, but would reach only a small portion of the population in China and Brazil. The
recommendation would be to look at other marketing options for those countries.
To reach customers in China and Brazil the best option would be direct marketing. Television
marketing is a form of direct marketing and although many may consider it an established form of
marketing, it still has potential to be used in new ways. One way to use television is to create
advertisements that make people start talking and thinking about the product. Another form of
direct marketing is direct mail marketing. Kudler can obtain a list of potential customers and send
them flyers promoting the product and explaining why the customer should try it. Kudler can also
work with banks providing new

fought for equality, but he also fought for the right to vote and for the victims of unfairness all
through peaceful protesting. He had a splendid speaking ability, which allowed him to reveal the
demands of African Americans for social justice. King s fluent appeal won the support of billons

Childhood Onset Schizophrenia And Its Effects
One of the most debilitating, devastating, and incurable mental disorders is one that is plagued by
severely abnormal functions, disturbed behaviors and the likelihood to seriously diminish nearly
all functionality of life this disorder is known as schizophrenia. While extremely rare,
schizophrenia can develop in childhood, sometimes as young as two to four years. This is referred
to as childhood onset schizophrenia(COS). Childhood onset schizophrenia is a severe form of
psychotic disorder that occurs at age 12 years or younger and is often chronic and persistently
debilitating (DSM 5). By a vast number of psychologists and other medical professionals, it is
believed to be just as virulent and malicious as adolescent and adult schizophrenia. The DSM 5
criteria for child onset schizophrenia requires at least two of the following five symptoms to be
present for no less than a month, and at least one of these must be (1), (2), or (3): (1) delusions,
(2) hallucinations, (3) disorganized speech, (4) grossly disorganized or catatonic behavior, and (5)
negative symptoms. Other criteria must include: a significantly lower level of functioning in other
areas, such as work, interpersonal relations or self care; the persistence of signs of disturbance for
at least 6 months, including at least 1 month of symptoms that meet one of the five symptoms; the
ruling out of schizoaffective disorder and depressive or bipolar disorder; and the exclusion of

Luan: Haha I know, right!? It seemed like the perfect timing for it.
Maddy: So tell me about this project of yours; what is it exactly?
Luan: Well one of my courses required students to pick a topic that really interested them to write
about during the semester. It s going to be a pretty long project, so the topic was really important. I
wanted to write and explore about something that was intriguing yet feasible and phobias really hit
the sweet spot. Not to mention that I always have been fascinated by them...
Maddy: Yeah, it really is a great topic. Now I know that people link phobias with fear. Is that really
what a phobia is? Just fear?
Luan: A lot of people think that Maddy. But according to the American Psychology Association, all
phobias are anxiety disorders, lumped in the same class as post traumatic stress disorder and panic
disorder, among others. And anxiety disorders are, fundamentally, based on fear. But this does not
mean that phobias equal fear.

The Essential Preparation For Life And Career
Ancient and medieval authors believed that the seven liberal arts were propaedeutic to the study of
all topics and matters. Their belief remains evident in our school systems, as many universities and
colleges focus on providing a liberal arts education. In fact, the Dedman College at Southern
Methodist University mentions the importance of a liberal artseducation in their mission statement,
as it is the essential preparation for life and career . The understanding of the seven liberal arts
inspires a broader and more focused study of materials often discussed in classes. Five of the
seven liberal arts can be directly applied to the study of Rural Matters. An understanding of
geometry, arithmetic, and astronomy is essential in gaining a deeper capacity for Rural Matters.
Through Isidore of Seville s Etymologies, we gain the understanding that without logic and
grammar we would not be able to appropriately discuss rural matters.
Isidore of Seville begins book seventeen of Etymologies, as he normally does, with the author and
creator of the topic at hand. Isidore of Seville acknowledges the uncertainty of the creator by
listing the different possibilities. According to the Greeks, Hesiod of Boeotia was the first to make
skill in writing on rural matters a part of the liberal education. According to the Romans, Cato was
the first to treat agriculture, Marcus Terence was the first to refine its study and Vergil exalted it
with the skill of his poetry (PAGE). Isidore explains

This first article by Shirley Rosenwasser and Norma Dean shows the underrepresentation of women,
it is shown by two studies made to college students. In Study 1, the masculinity/femininity of
governmental office held positions were analyzed and rated as how feminine or masculine they
were. One hundred thirty three college students were recruited from introductory psychology
classes at Southwest Texas State University (Rosenwasser Dean, 1989). Participants were asked to
describe how distinguished they thought each office was, as well as the rate of importance of each
holding office. In Study 2, thirty nine men and eighty three women were recruited again from the
same class (Rosenwasser Dean, 1989). However, now they were asked to read one of the four
descriptions of a hypothetical candidate, and they had to base their answers on the hypothetical
example. After, they needed to evaluate the candidates to show their level of efficacy. Estimating
the chances of someone winning the election was the next step. And finally, participants rated the
importance of each presidential task. There was a discussion following the studies, Study 1 showed
that masculine descriptors were far more important than feminine descriptors. And Study 2

Science And Science In John Wesson s The Science Of Soccer
Science is everywhere. John Wesson has proved that to many through his famous book, The
Science of Soccer. This book links both soccer and science together. Throughout this story the
simple idea of soccer will turn into a more complex version of science. Wesson teaches the
readers about how something so simple, like a ball bouncing, can relate to the more in depth laws
of physics. While reading this book one can learn what soccer really is, how scienceis described,
and how science and soccer are related. A common question in many young minds is, What is
soccer? . In the words of Wesson, Soccer s superiority derives from two sources, variety and
continuity. At each point in the game the players are faced with a wide range of options take the
ball past the opponent on this side or that, to pass short or long, low or high, to shoot or to lay
the ball off and to whom (Wesson 85). Soccer is a physical and mental sport. It is played with
your feet, however, it is the mind that does most of the hard work. It is also a team sport. It
consists of dribbling, passing, kicking, and much more. Sometimes there will be a bounce that
must be trapped, and others there will be moves needed to blow by a defender. The game varies.
For instance, the book also reads, The ball is kicked in a variety of ways according to the
circumstances. For a slow accurate pass the ball is pushed with the flat inside face of the foot. For
a hard shot the toes are dipped and the ball is struck

Pros And Cons Of Native American Mascots
Is it okay to have Native American images as mascots? Some of the mascots names are Red Skins,
Braves and Cleveland Indians. They chose these mascots because they thought that they would be
intimidating to the other team. Imagine having a pink bunny for a mascot; other teams are not
going to think that that is intimidating. Using Native American images and names in
professional, collegiate and high school sports does not reinforce and perpetuate stereotypes
because it is not harmful and it only it representing school pride. Mascots are not harmful to
Native Americans. The AP reports, At Florida State, Wetherell said the NCAA was trying to

Secondly, the method of choice is currently lethal injection. In response to those who fondly quote
the eighth amendment, the Constitution actually makes reference to the death penalty not one, but
twice. The first occurrence is in the fifth amendment of the Bill of Rights, which says that, no
person shall be held to answer for a capital...crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand

Constitution is specifying that the death penalty may be used, but warns that there are certain

says states shall not, deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process (Stewart

the constitution is permitting the death penalty, but stating that there must be a due process in

Hope By Emily Dickinson Rhetorical Devices
Hope is the thing with feathers
Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul
And sings the tune without the words
And never stops at all
And sweetest in the Gale is heard
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little Bird
That kept so many warm
I ve heard it in the chillest land
And on the strangest Sea
Yet never in Extremity,
It asked a crumb of me.
Hope
Hope abides; therefore I abide.
Countless frustrations have not cowed me.
I am still alive, vibrant with life.
The black cloud will disappear,
The morning sun will appear once again
In all its supernal glory. Sri Chinmoy

The poem opens with the line Hope is the thing with feather. In this line, persona associated hope
and bird and made a metaphor. Then it follows like this, That perches in the soul/ And sings the
tune without words/ And never stops at all. In these lines, persona thinks that hope is like a
singing bird, even though sometimes it doesn t speak to us, eternally it will stay permanent in
us. Also by mentioning, hope as a permanent thing in inside of us, allows us to acquire most of
what life gives to us. The second stanza creates some kind of opposition for the hope, and in this
stanza persona metaphorically describe a person, who destroys his/her hope. By saying, And sore
must be the storm/That could abash the little bird/ That kept so many warm, persona used an
impressive metaphor by associating storm with anger and negativity. The storm abash the bird
(hope) and cause pain and discomfort hurts it. In the fourth stanza, with the following line which
is I ve heard it in the chilliest lands, persona tried to make her reader to believe in hope, she tried
to convince that hope is everywhere. In the last two lines, Yet never in extremity/ It asked a crumb
of me , persona mentioned that hope is a gift that doesn t exist for

Jackie Robinson And The Baseball
Jackie Robinson did not only help initiate the integration of the game of baseball, but he also
helped initiate integration throughout America. The film Soul of the Game does not go into all of
the details regarding his career on the Brooklyn Dodgers, but rather it depicts his life and choices
leading up to his career in the Major Leagues. This film portrays important themes such as
segregation, perseverance, and doubt, and it applies to history in the beginning of the story of
Jackie Robinsonand how America has gotten to where it is now. Although the court case of
Plessy v. Ferguson declared segregation to be legal as long as things were equal in 1896,
baseball had already done this about ten years prior. There was a creation of the Negro League in
the 1920s through the 1940s so that African Americans could have the same opportunities and
white players even though they were not allowed on any of the major league teams. Jackie
Robinson was a rookie player on the Kansas City Monarchs, a Negro League team, and being along
side Satchel Paige, no one even noticed who he was. According to the reading in Jackie Robinson
and Race in America by Thomas Zeiler, Satchel Paige was the first negro player to be inducted
into the Hall of Fame and he possibly believed to be one of the best pitchers of all time. Another
comrade of Robinson s during his time in the Negro League would be Josh Gibson, one of the
greatest catchers and hitters of all time. The owner of the Brooklyn Dodgers,

Essay about Billy Budd
BILLY BUDD
There are many ways you can argue if the novel Billy Budd was a good novel or a bad one. You
can determine this by looking at such things as plot, character, and the use of language. The book
is about a sailor that has been impressed (the act of forcibly taking sailors and making them serve
in the navy) by the British navy. It is set in the late 1700 s during the French Revolution which
overthrew the anarchy, addressed peoples concerns, and it was mainly a focus on human rights. The
Revolution also influenced the way sailors thought because of the mutinies at Spit head and Nor.
And due to Billy s notable qualities he became the handsome sailor(the natural leader of the crew).
Also since the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also it can make it more exciting because you know where they would be on the boat and you
know if a person can be maybe close to falling off the boat. The plot was also interesting because
you know that the people on the boat are far away from land so if anything happens such as a
low supply of food then you know they most likely will not be able to get back to land to
replenish their food supply. It is just mainly interesting because you know that they, for the most
part; are cut off from society, because they have no way of contacting them. They did not have
things like cell phones or anything then so they had to rely on each other.
The novel was not so great due to some of the characters. Mr. Claggart to be more specific. The
role he played was the ships master at arms. But the cruel nature of the man was taken a little to
far. Making you more wonder why he was yelling at some one and at some times making the book
a little more confusing than it should had been. If you have no clue why a character is yelling at
another character you are more confused then anything. And when you did know what he was
yelling at someone for you where still confused because the reason he was yelling at some one was
probably ridiculous, instead of just.
Another reason why the novel was not so

Moral Blindness In Anna By Tolstoy
Tolstoy repeats the subject, Anna, for elven times in the reduced space of a paragraph. He spoils
her as a father does with his only daughter, condescends further her whims, endorses her downfall,
forces some fifty characters to move all around her intention. Everything is about her, no wonder
somewhere along the line her selfishness amounts to cruelty. The awareness of her husband
unhappiness doesn t spoil her happiness as long as she believes being it her salvation, nor does the
memory of her son. She strives to compensate for her absence by showing up for his ninth birthday
though forgetting to give him the toys she had bought, she tries to suffer by refusing the divorce,
consequently making her position socially unacceptable, but... Show more content on

He is a product of his age, an apology of positivism alien to people s feelings and thoughts. The
abyss he is facing, the illogical process of love, is made even more horrible by the shattering of
the rules of propriety, he, so necessarily, adhered. Anna sees in him emotionless conventionality
and she points in him the same faults Emma addresses to Charles, he understands nothing, he
feels nothing, a ministerial machine lacking of imagination and passion. And indeed the
distance between him and Charles is never great, Tolstoy, through Anna s hatred, tries to make
of him a caricature of a man as Flaubert did with Charles. The cartilage of his ears, his weary
eyes, slow voice, flat feet, the way he swings his pelvis, the blue veins on his white hands, the
cracking of his knuckles, all these details recall very closely the stamp Emma abhors in Charles.
All the same, Tolstoy s characters are never wholly evil or wholly good. They are real. Karenin
is an hypocrite who mirrors the morality Anna has offended: when on the carriage back home she
first confesses to love someone else, Tolstoy has her conceding: No, you are not mistaken, she said
slowly, looking desperately at his cold face and between her desperation and his indifference passes
all the difference between the epic she represents and the etiquette he embodies. And yet, there is
something missing in almost everything Karenin does in the novel: he has no poetic sentiments but

Kyoto Protocol And The Protocol
As a basic description the Kyoto Protocol is a document, which legally binds all member
countries that are classified as developed to meet specific emission reduction targets. The
protocol brings with it several Commitment periods , which as the name suggests are periods of
time by which member states are bound to the protocol. The initial commitment period began in
2008 and ceased in 2012. The next began in 2013 and will end in 2020. Currently there are 192
member states to the protocol. It has been determined that developed countries are primarily
responsible for the current elevated levels of Greenhouse gases (GHG). The Kyoto Protocolputs
heavier goals on the developed countries based on the idea of differentiated but common
responsibilities. The Protocol dictates that there are six primary Greenhouse gases identified as
contributing the most harm to the natural environment, these being: Methane, Carbon Dioxide,
Nitrous Oxide, Hydro fluorocarbons, Per fluorocarbons and Sulfur Hexafluoride (U.S. EPA, N.D.)
Each nation has their own individual targets. The average target was a cut of roughly 5%, in
comparison to the levels in the atmosphere in 1990 and 2012 (The Guardian, 2012). Some
countries have a different approach to the protocol than others. An example of this is the United
States, which is yet to ratify the protocol and also happens to be the second largest total emitter
(second to China) and largest emitter per capita of greenhouse gases in the world (M.

Select five sources. Explain how useful these sources have been in informing you in your
enquiry into the main features of trench warfare on the Western Front in the First World War.
Introduction The five sources that I have selected to help with my enquiry are photographs, an
extract from a newspaper article and a soldier s diary. The reasons why I chose these five
particular sources is because I believe that they are a wide variety of selections, dating back to
many years, all ranging from the start of the war to the end of the war. However, one of my
sources, the newspaper article, was published in 2008 so it is more of a recent source but still, very

They could fire up to six hundred rounds per minute and was able to cut down the lines of
attackers causing huge casualties. Machinery guns was used on the Western Front to bring
down/cut down the lines of attackers very easily. There were many more weapons used.
However, this source does not show any of these weapons or how it is being used at the Western
Front. It also does not tell us or show us how many people were injured or died in the first battle
of the Somme, but from my own knowledge I know that there were sixty thousand casualties on
the first day of the battle of the Somme. Casualties includes both dead and wounded. The normal
proportion was about four wounded for every man killed, so approximately twelve thousand died
and fourty eight thousand were wounded. Because this photograph is quite a close up one you
begin to question whether or not this image was actually staged. The soldiers are actually looking
at the camera and smiling which makes you question the reliability of the source. I also happen to
know that it would have been pretty hard for a person to have taken a photograph of the trenches
close up. There were shells everywhere; it would have been really dangerous

Creation Myths And Its Impact On Society
As human beings, we have our own general understanding of how our world came to be. Whether
we are in church, the synagogue, or the temple humans have established ideologies. Humans use
the creation myths to bring about some understanding as to how humans magically or purposely
inhabited the earth. However, even though myths satisfy this yearning for how and why, the
scientific world revolted with the idea that creation myths are no longer satisfactory. In unison
paleoanthropologists and archeologists along with many other historians said that we as humans
need a scientific, concrete, and factual basis for our existence. As a result of many years of
research and discovery the scientific world came to two conclusions. Either Homo erectus
evolved into Homo sapiens in each region of migration (Spodek 16) most notably known as
Candelabra. Or the Homo erectus evolved into Homo sapiens only once in Africa (Spodek 16)
most notably known as the Noah s Ark model. Through my journey of understanding both schools
of thought I began to rethink the basic sugar coated origins of humanity that teachers spoon feed in
high school. Spodek along with the associate authors shined a little light on the fact that Homo
sapiens most likely stemmed directly from Africa and migrated to other places in the world. Which
leads me to my thesis: Homo erectus evolved into Homo sapiens only once in Africa, and then
emigrated to the rest of the world. Even though my thesis aligns with the Noah s Ark

They are a kind of norm. What is considered mannerly is highly susceptible to change with time,

Essay On Assessing Competency
Assessing Competency In order for a defendant to plead guilty, he or she must understand the
circumstances and consequences of their plea. They must understand that if they put in a guilty
plea, they are agreeing with the fact that they did the crime. Depending on how gruesome the
crime is that was committed the attorney and judge can send the defendant out for a psych
evaluation. Once at the psych evaluation the psychologist will ask the accused a series of
questions. The doctor will look at the accused past and current situation to help understand more
about the patient. The psychiatrist will help the court understand if a person is fit to stand trial.
Everyone wants to know if the accused is capable of making decisions on his behalf.
Every person being accused is considered competent unless it can be proven otherwise. Until that
is proven, the case will be treated as a normal case. If the defendant is found incompetent to stand
trial there will be further testing done; and the trial or court proceedings may be put on hold. If
found incompetent the patient will not be able to understand what s being discussed. He or she

  • 2. The Potential Benefits Of Cloning Cloning Cloning has been one of the most widely discussed and controversial scientific topics in the past decade. Cloning has been applied in many fields including the creation of new breeds of plants and animals. However, the cloning of plants has been practiced for hundreds of years. Cloning can be done on a larger level in animals and has potential benefits. The general process of cloning is to take one cell from the parent making the offspring and parent genetically identical (Tsunoda and Kato, 158 161). In addition by making completely identical cells, we can apply different treatments to different clones to see if they react in different ways. The potential benefits of cloning out way the consequences of cloning. In this paper I will first elaborate on microorganisms. Then I will talk about plants, animal and human cloning, and the controversies in cloning. Introductory work in Microorganisms Bacteria and yeast produce clones of themselves naturally through the process of binary fission, which results in two identical daughter cells (Boundless). Since their simple reproductive system and life cycle, they are natural hosts in development of different more advanced methods of cloning. Bacteria and yeasts can be cloned in a matter of hours, which make them ideal for studying because of their rapid reproduction abilities. Bacteria and yeast were originally studied as models for cloning and still are. Plant Cloning Cloning has different levels of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Analysis Of Soltice And Ransom By Tracy K. Smith In her collection of poetry Life on Mars, Tracy K. Smith brings real world problems into focus with Solstice and Ransom . The main idea in Solstice is the geese that forced the Hudson River plane crash in New York, while Smith writes of the Somalian pirates and sea pollution in Ransom . However, these are just the literal meanings behind the two poems that have deeper meanings relating to the state of the world and how humans are playing a role in it, politically and physically. There is a constant struggle in the poems Solstice and Ransom that where there is always an underdog, whether it be protesters attempting to make a change or Somalian pirates fighting back because their fishing waters have been corrupted. A main connection between these poems include their connection to the time period that Tracy K. Smith s father passed away towards the end of 2008. Because of how emotional and tragic this time period was to Smith, she holds onto the shreds of hope she had during that time, including two major events portrayed in the poems. The literal meaning behind the poem Solstice is the geese that caused flights to be disrupted at the JFK airport. These geese also flew into pilot Chesley Sully Sullenberger and killed all engine power, making him perform a miracle crash landing into the Hudson river. Ransom captures the story of Somalian pirates and why they have naturally been forced into hijacking ships to make a living. The Maersk Alabama hijacking in early ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Separation Process Of Naphthalene And Benzoic Acid Naphthalene and benzoic acid are two compounds studied in this experiment. Sodium benzoate is also an important substance involved in the separation process. The separation technique used to extract the different compounds of a heterogeneous mixture is based on solubility and density. Regarding naphthalene and benzoic acid, their chemical properties differ from one another (Separation 1). The detailed separation process of naphthalene and benzoic acid, found in a mixture, follows. First of, when mixed together, benzoic acid and sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) react and produce sodium benzoate, water and carbon dioxide (Separation 2). Water has a particular density and naphthalene, as well as benzoic acid, are insoluble in water. Regarding naphthalene, it does not react with sodium bicarbonate, but it dissolves in ether () (Separation 2). Thus, by adding sodium bicarbonate and ether to the benzoic acid naphthalene mixture, one is left with immiscible aqueous sodium benzoate and naphthalene in ether solutions. Furthermore, ether is less dense than water and so, an ether layer floats on water as the two solvents are mixed (U of Missouri). Next, Pasteur pipettes are used to mix thoroughly the resulting solution, so that the two distinct layers form into a centrifuge tube. As ether floats on water, it is found at the top layer, whereas sodium benzoate, which contains the converted amount of benzoic acid, is found in the water bottom layer of the centrifuge container ( Separation ... • 5. Relationships In The House Of The Spirits Isabel Allende s The House of the Spirits In many novels, relationships shape a character. Throughout Isabel Allende s The House of the Spirits dissimilar individuals constantly come together to form relationships that change or develop their disposition. While Allende uses relationships to build upon a character, she also depicts a character s living environment in order to confirm their true soul and lifestyle. Due to the observation of both relationships and environments, a character s true qualities are expressed to a reader. The relationship between two individuals, Ferula and Clara, proves itself a positive product of the union of differing people. Through analysis of Ferula s home and close observation of her bond with Clara, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ferula grew up always caring for others before herself. She assumed the role of her brother?s (Esteban) mother due to the fact that her mother fell ill. She ?slept with him, bathed him, took him for strolls, and did other people?s sewing from dawn till dusk to pay for his schooling?(42). Ferula felt an obligation to raise her younger brother, and in doing so, sacrificed her life for his benefit. Instead of giving to herself, Ferula felt compelled to give of herself in hopes to provide Esteban with everything she could. After Esteban reached manhood, Ferula?s life became geared to helping another member of her family, her mother. She felt constrained to giving up her own happiness and her own adult life in order to ?accept the role of her mother?s nurse?(42). By the time Ferula could realize what happened, her life became ?painted in drab colors?. Just as the houses in Ferula?s neighborhood became ?drab?, everyday of Ferula?s life became a monotonous routine. A routine where Ferula ?was ready at any moment to run in and administer her mother?s potions, hold her bedpan, or straighten her pillows?(42). Due to her constant compulsions to aid her family, Ferula lost many great parts of her life. She turned down two suitors, ?two windows? which would have allowed her to escape from her desolation. The feeling that she needed to remain by her mother?s side became greater than that of her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Food Inc Research Paper Semester Paper: Food, Inc. The way we eat has changed more in the last 50 years, than in the previous 10,000. Michael Pollan, Food inc. This single statement paints a vivid picture in ones mind. Not only is the way we grow our food changing, but we are also changing our bodies. According to the documentary Food, Inc , in the 1950 s, it would take farmers about 68 days to fully grow a chicken. Now? It takes about 47 days to fully grow a chicken, and it is twice as big due to the fact that these chickens are injected with hormones. I am fortunate enough to be born into an upper middle class family, but what about those who aren t? I feel that if we stop buying genetically modified food, then maybe someone will listen. Maybe, just maybe, farmers will hear our calls and answer them. What competitive forces seem to have the greatest effect on industry attractiveness from the standpoint of packaged seafood producers? The competitive environment in the value added seafood industry, while not significantly threatening, does still have its challenges. Addison and Rathle acknowledge that there is not a large competitive market for their specific area, although there are four or five that market gumbo. Also, this increased competition among grocers resulted in some going out of business resulting in loss of sales for those vendors. Also, these large grocery chains demands exceeded the ability for small food companies to provide products in such large volume. This forced these small businesses to focus more on smaller markets and also to identify niches in the market that could be exploited. Small restaurants and food chains now became major purchasers of these products. Also, the frequency of the average American eating out increased further adding to the attractiveness of vendor sales to restaurateurs. Also, certain businesses expanded to meet these large demand markets in the grocery and restaurant market. These state of the art production facilities threatened smaller companies without a competitive product or established market. All of these changes resulted in certain drivers coming to the forefront. The first would be the need to reduce volatility. Competitors in the market would need to select markets wisely to reduce the risk of not being competitive or the uncertainty of the marketability of their product. They also would need to increase their ability to diversify into different products. Large food companies may monopolize a certain product making it necessary for other companies to become creative in developing other products or marketing strategies. • 8. How New Technologies Impacted The Purchasing Habits Of The... The rapid growth in technological capability, accessibility and usability during recent memory is undeniable: in January 2015, almost 42% of the world s population had access to the internet, there were 2.08 billion active social media accounts worldwide, mobile cellular internet penetration was on an all time high with approximately 3 billion unique mobile users, including more than 70% penetration in many emerging markets and developing nations worldwide. This widespread prevalence comes with the ability to manifest market power and influence buying decisions on a new, much larger scale. This essay will analyse in what ways new technologies have impacted the purchasing habits of the public, their effects on the consumer decision making process and how, if at all, marketers can utilise these new technologies in their favour and influence consumers preferences. Purchasing behaviour varies depending on factors such as time available for deliberation and decision making, the involvement in the purchase and the number of options and alternatives. Despite the exact process adopted being unknown, there is a standard known as the consumer decision making process, or CDP that many purchases follow. The first step is need recognition, or becoming aware of a problem that can be solved by purchasing a certain product. Around 50,000 people die each year from alcohol poisoning. Similarly, more than 400,000 deaths each year are attributed to tobacco smoking. Someone would have to smoke over 1400 pounds of marijuana in less than 15 minutes to kill themselves which, needless to say, is impossible. Everyone knows the detrimental effects smoking tobacco can have on the human body. And, although fun, the consumption of alcohol doesn t really have any benefits either. Social Movement Research Paper To begin, the footage of the police s actions towards people like Michael Brown, Kajieme Powell, and many other cases reveal the need for the six factors to help develop and support a social movement. First, if they want to have a successful social movement they must obtain structural plausibility. Meaning, if they want to produce and sustain a social movement, then they should have a base or rights and equal freedoms obtained from our Founding Fathers. The structural plausibility is in The Bill of Rights as it gives Americans freedoms and rights equally.Second, the structural strain in this movement is the policestereotyping people of color by placing them into demeaning categories such as suspicious, dangerous, and violent. Furthermore, the increase of innocent shootings of black people brought attention to Americans, the police, and even the President. Fifth, the mobilization for action began from the community s desire for justice for what the policemen did to many innocent black people. They started to intercede by creating protests and bringing awareness to social media by using items such as hashtags. This showed in Michael Brown s case when people began to organize protests called, No justice, no peace and hashtags, if they gun me down as seen on Twitter (Complex News, 2014). While the rise of the railroad system through Texas gave plenty of beneficial attributes, from faster transportation of goods and services to expansion of Texan towns, which helped boom our population, it would seem that a number of things would be drawbacks leading to the termination of many Texan ideologies. The railroad system stemmed throughout Texasallowed many walks of life a deeper view of the Great Lone Star state. While people from different ends of the country came seeking new life others came seeking new fortune which lead to the demise of cowboys, instillation of cattle drives, and the Postbellum cattle boom. In order to understand the negative attributes that the railroad brought we must go back and bring our attention to the beginning which includes the original cowboys. Despite the many riveting TV dramas that paint cowboys as fast men who love faster women we now know in order to be historically accurate, we would have to trade these Clint Eastwood fairy tales for less exciting ones of cowboys who were smelly lonely men who had no serious work skills. These men would consist of workers who were generally under the age of twenty that made 30 40$ a month. During this time period they would walk with and behind cattle for up to six weeks ensuring safe passage to these insanely stupid creatures. When the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A public good is a good that individuals can consume without reducing its availability to other individuals. These goods are typically referred to as nonrivalrous and nonexcludable. A common resource or open access resource is a resource that provides users with tangible benefits. A concern that common resources have is overuse. When talking about overuse it is very natural to mention the free rider problem that many countries are facing and especially Australia. The theory behind a free rider is a person who benefits from a good that possibly have been made or paid for by others without contributing to the good themselves. In the Africa Progress Panel s 2015 report, it was stated that Australia has gone from a leadership to a free rider status when talking about climate diplomacy. It is believed that developed countries such as Australia are causing the majority of the problem through for example gas emissions. A research shows that many of the countries who are the ones creating the most gas emitting are also the ones who are least vulnerable to climate change and are essentially the free riders. It is here important to remember that a modern example of a common resource is climate stability. The problem with Australia essentially being a free rider is that Australia is a country with a lot of wildlife and nature. Many people travel to Australia to experience the nature and wildlife but if they continue being free riders it can result in lower GDP and lower income per capita because the wildlife and beautiful nature with high possibility would be ruined thus fewer people would want to visit the country. An example of this would be the Great Barrier Reef who recently was pronounced ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. Corresponding Themes in Frankenstein and Blade Runner Ridley Scott s film Blade Runner reflects some of the key themes seen in Mary Shelley s classic novel Frankenstein. For one, both the sources touch on the necessity of creators taking responsibility for their creations. Another key theme established in both works is the idea that emotional complexity and knowledge, over memory and appearance, allow people to be defined as human beings. Throughout the novel Frankenstein, author Mary Shelley builds upon the theme that one must take responsibility for the actions and well being of their creations. Protagonist Victor Frankenstein consistently toils with the degree of responsibility he owes to the monster he created. Initially, Frankenstein completely abandons his creation, as the creature notes when he says, Yet you, my creator, detest and spurn me, thy creature... (Shelley 83). When the monster pleads for a female counterpart, Victor says, I refused, and I did right in refusing, to create a companion... He showed unparalleled malignity and selfishness in evil; he destroyed my friends... (Shelley 200). Victor fails to sympathize with his creation and fails to understand that all creatures desire something from their creator. A parallel theme of the disasters that occur when a creator doesn t take responsibility for its creations can be found in the 1982 film Blade Runner. In this film, Eldon Tyrell, the creator of the rogue Replicants, takes absolutely no responsibility for the danger he has created when he relegates the job of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The median would be more suitable because the mean is more heavily influenced by outliers. In a skewed distribution, the mean would be pulled more towards the tail of the data where outliers exist, and the average value would be greater than that of the median. In this case, using the 1.5 x IQR rule, any departure time less than 19.5 or greater than 16.5 is an outlier. Hence, with multiple outliers present in the data, the median would not be influenced as heavily as the mean by outliers, and would give a more accurate representation of the average value of the set. If a point value is indicated by an equal or positive sign, this shows that the flight departed on time or late. The chosen random variable would be discrete. Although the data set is a large sample size of 500 values, it is still possible to list out all the outcomes of the data as a fixed set and assign probabilities to them. The values for departure delay times are also inputted as whole positive and negative integers with no decimal values. Decimal values are characteristic of a continuous random variable for an infinite sample space. Therefore, this another indicator that a discrete random variable would be ideal for a finite sample space. The binomial distribution would be suitable for the underlying distribution of X because a data point must either lie within or outside of the interval of a delayed departure. Hypothetically, if a value lies outside the range of 10 and 130, then this would mean that the flight will cancelled. A flight cannot depart to its destination too early or too late, as it would be considered an unreliable flight. Therefore, any time of departure that exceeds 10 or 130 cannot exist. The probability that a flight will depart early or on time is 71.0%. The probability that a flight will arrive late is 36.0%. The probability that a flight departs late or arrives early is 83.4%. Comparing Pisan s and Plato s Views on the Roles of Women It is hardly fair to make a true judgement on whose view of women was more sensible. For one reason Pisan was a women and Plato was a man. It has taken thousand of years for women to accomplish equality towards men now so Pisan s view could be seen as before her time. We have learned over the years that because you are a women does not mean that you are incapable of being equal to a man. Although in physical strength men have gotten us by far mentally women are able to compete with men. As for Plato s believes that men and women are not equal. He believes that men were born and educated like citizens. He also believes that the only way of arriving at a right conclusion about the possession and use of women and children is to follow the path on which we originally started, when we said that the men were to be the guardians and watchdogs of the herd. Plato also stated that the birth and education of women to be subject to similar or nearly similar regulations. Then you shall see whether the result is in accordance with the male design. Plato then states the question are dogs divided into hes and shes, or do they both share equally in hunting and in keeping watch and in the other duties of dogs? • 21. Theme Of Death In Hamlet In Hamlet, playwright William Shakespeare intertwines the primary motifs of death, disease, and decay into each scene of the play to create a distinct depiction of the corrupt state of Denmark and Hamlet s all consuming pessimism by using the literary device of imagery. The word image englobes any kind of simile; by using it, a poet or prose writer illustrates, illuminates and embellishes his thought. Shakespeare is able to utilise this technique through various descriptions or ideas which arouse emotions and associations in the mind of the reader. The images he uses are incredibly rich and vivid that in they have the ability to form a different world for the audience. Shakespeare s choice of metaphors and similes at any given moment in the play is determined by the dramatic issues arising out of that moment. In the play, Shakespeare is able to accurately illustrate the corrupt state of Denmark, as well as Hamlets profound pessimism which corrupts his mind and soul. This is accomplished through the technique of imagery, particularly pertaining to the motifs of death, disease and decay. In this play, the image of death is introduced from the very beginning, in Act I, once the Ghostof the old king Hamlet appears. In the plot, once the ghost is introduced, its role is to inform Hamlet about a secret murder. As Hamlet did not witness the murder, there was no need to feign madness. Rayleigh BпїЅnard Fargination Problem Rayleigh BГ©nard convection problem involves an unstable temperature gradient driving the pertur bations to grow for a single fluid or even a mixture of fluids without phase transformation. However, when the mixture of fluids involve phase transformation, apart from the cooling experienced by the parcel as it relaxes to the temperature of its surrounding, it also experiences the latent heatrelease or absorption associated with the phase transformation. Troposphere, the convectiondominated regime of the atmosphere, has a temperature gradient of 70 K from 288 K at the surface to 222 K at the tropopause and the pressure also decreases exponentially with an e folding height of 7.64 km the combined effect of both pressure and temperature implies the phase transformation of the water vapor. A rising parcel of air can have phase transformation of water vapor to liquid droplets and ice particles, and further, the liquid droplets and ice particles can also transform back to the vapor form. One would expect the effect of phase transformation can be captured as a source/sink term in the energy equation, but the intricacy of the system is furthered by the momentum driving characteristic of the moisture present in the atmosphere. **Buckingham Pi analysis of a moist system reveals two additional dimensionless numbers, Ra v and Le apart from Ra T , P r and Re, appearing in a single phase natural convection problem. The dimensionless parameters are Lewis number (Le), Prandtl number(P r), moisture driven Rayleigh number (Ra v ), analogous to thermally driven Rayleigh number(Ra T ) and Reynolds number(Re). Of these 5 dimensionless numbers, Le and P r capture the properties of the fluid, Ra T and Ra v represents the surrounding conditions and Re represents the nature of resulting flow.** In atmosphere owing to the wide variety of processes and further limited by our measurement capabilities, phenomena at fine ranges are not always captured. Therefore if there is an opposite argument, you are going to able to see why and at the end, we found ideas as to why they do not agree with us. And even when there is not an official response of gender being a problem, we can speculate that it s true, gender roles are a big part in government. Literature Review This first article by Shirley Rosenwasser and Norma Dean shows the underrepresentation of women, it is shown by two studies made to college students. In Study 1, the masculinity/femininity of governmental office held positions were analyzed and rated as how feminine or masculine they were. One hundred thirty three college students were recruited from introductory psychology classes at Southwest Texas State University (Rosenwasser Dean, 1989). Participants were asked to describe how distinguished they thought each office was, as well as the rate of importance of each holding office. In Study 2, thirty nine men and eighty three women were recruited again from the same class (Rosenwasser Dean, 1989). However, now they were asked to read one of the four descriptions of a hypothetical candidate, and they had to base their answers on the hypothetical example. After, they needed to evaluate the candidates to show their level of efficacy. Estimating the chances of someone winning the election was the next step. And finally, participants rated the importance of each presidential task. There was a discussion following the studies, Study 1 showed that masculine descriptors were far more important than feminine descriptors. And Study 2 showing, that although, women and feminine candidates were rated more competent in feminine tasks as well as men with masculine tasks, students still rated masculine tasks more ... • 34. Science And Science In John Wesson s The Science Of Soccer Science is everywhere. John Wesson has proved that to many through his famous book, The Science of Soccer. This book links both soccer and science together. Throughout this story the simple idea of soccer will turn into a more complex version of science. Wesson teaches the readers about how something so simple, like a ball bouncing, can relate to the more in depth laws of physics. While reading this book one can learn what soccer really is, how scienceis described, and how science and soccer are related. A common question in many young minds is, What is soccer? . In the words of Wesson, Soccer s superiority derives from two sources, variety and continuity. At each point in the game the players are faced with a wide range of options take the ball past the opponent on this side or that, to pass short or long, low or high, to shoot or to lay the ball off and to whom (Wesson 85). Soccer is a physical and mental sport. It is played with your feet, however, it is the mind that does most of the hard work. It is also a team sport. It consists of dribbling, passing, kicking, and much more. Sometimes there will be a bounce that must be trapped, and others there will be moves needed to blow by a defender. The game varies. For instance, the book also reads, The ball is kicked in a variety of ways according to the circumstances. For a slow accurate pass the ball is pushed with the flat inside face of the foot. For a hard shot the toes are dipped and the ball is struck ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The first occurrence is in the fifth amendment of the Bill of Rights, which says that, no person shall be held to answer for a capital...crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury... nor be deprived of life... without due process of law (Stewart 21). In other words, the Constitution is specifying that the death penalty may be used, but warns that there are certain stipulations that must first be met. The second mentioning is in the Fourteenth Amendment which says states shall not, deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process (Stewart 22). Once again, the same law regarding the death penalty is passed on to the states. In either case, the constitution is permitting the death penalty, but stating that there must be a due process in which the verdict is made. The death penalty was legalized in Texas in 1923. The poem opens with the line Hope is the thing with feather. In this line, persona associated hope and bird and made a metaphor. Then it follows like this, That perches in the soul/ And sings the tune without words/ And never stops at all. In these lines, persona thinks that hope is like a singing bird, even though sometimes it doesn t speak to us, eternally it will stay permanent in us. Also by mentioning, hope as a permanent thing in inside of us, allows us to acquire most of what life gives to us. The second stanza creates some kind of opposition for the hope, and in this stanza persona metaphorically describe a person, who destroys his/her hope. By saying, And sore must be the storm/That could abash the little bird/ That kept so many warm, persona used an impressive metaphor by associating storm with anger and negativity. The storm abash the bird (hope) and cause pain and discomfort hurts it. In the fourth stanza, with the following line which is I ve heard it in the chilliest lands, persona tried to make her reader to believe in hope, she tried to convince that hope is everywhere. The film Soul of the Game does not go into all of the details regarding his career on the Brooklyn Dodgers, but rather it depicts his life and choices leading up to his career in the Major Leagues. This film portrays important themes such as segregation, perseverance, and doubt, and it applies to history in the beginning of the story of Jackie Robinsonand how America has gotten to where it is now. Although the court case of Plessy v. Ferguson declared segregation to be legal as long as things were equal in 1896, baseball had already done this about ten years prior. There was a creation of the Negro League in the 1920s through the 1940s so that African Americans could have the same opportunities and white players even though they were not allowed on any of the major league teams. Jackie Robinson was a rookie player on the Kansas City Monarchs, a Negro League team, and being along side Satchel Paige, no one even noticed who he was. It is set in the late 1700 s during the French Revolution which overthrew the anarchy, addressed peoples concerns, and it was mainly a focus on human rights. The plot was also interesting because you know that the people on the boat are far away from land so if anything happens such as a low supply of food then you know they most likely will not be able to get back to land to replenish their food supply. It is just mainly interesting because you know that they, for the most part; are cut off from society, because they have no way of contacting them. They did not have things like cell phones or anything then so they had to rely on each other. The novel was not so great due to some of the characters. Mr. Claggart to be more specific. The role he played was the ships master at arms. But the cruel nature of the man was taken a little to far. Anna sees in him emotionless conventionality and she points in him the same faults Emma addresses to Charles, he understands nothing, he feels nothing, a ministerial machine lacking of imagination and passion. And indeed the distance between him and Charles is never great, Tolstoy, through Anna s hatred, tries to make of him a caricature of a man as Flaubert did with Charles. The cartilage of his ears, his weary eyes, slow voice, flat feet, the way he swings his pelvis, the blue veins on his white hands, the cracking of his knuckles, all these details recall very closely the stamp Emma abhors in Charles. Kyoto Protocol And The Protocol As a basic description the Kyoto Protocol is a document, which legally binds all member countries that are classified as developed to meet specific emission reduction targets. The protocol brings with it several Commitment periods , which as the name suggests are periods of time by which member states are bound to the protocol. The initial commitment period began in 2008 and ceased in 2012. The next began in 2013 and will end in 2020. Currently there are 192 member states to the protocol. It has been determined that developed countries are primarily responsible for the current elevated levels of Greenhouse gases (GHG). The Kyoto Protocolputs heavier goals on the developed countries based on the idea of differentiated but common responsibilities. The Protocol dictates that there are six primary Greenhouse gases identified as contributing the most harm to the natural environment, these being: Methane, Carbon Dioxide, Nitrous Oxide, Hydro fluorocarbons, Per fluorocarbons and Sulfur Hexafluoride (U.S. EPA, N.D.) Each nation has their own individual targets. The average target was a cut of roughly 5%, in comparison to the levels in the atmosphere in 1990 and 2012 (The Guardian, 2012). However, even though myths satisfy this yearning for how and why, the scientific world revolted with the idea that creation myths are no longer satisfactory. In unison paleoanthropologists and archeologists along with many other historians said that we as humans need a scientific, concrete, and factual basis for our existence. As a result of many years of research and discovery the scientific world came to two conclusions.
