the ZPD Officers are inside the office, talking away. Nick was sitting down, talking a little with

What Does The Green Light Symbolize In Chapter 1
In the novel The Great Gatsby, there is a lot of symbolism. There are huge, obvious and also
small, hard to see symbolic messages. One of the small and hard to see symbolic messages is the
green light at the end of Daisy s dock. Depending on the things going on in the book, depends on
the symbolism in my eyes. I believe that the greenlight in chapter 1 means that there is hope, when
mentioned in chapter 5 it means fascination, and in chapter 9, I believe that the green light
symbolizes sadness.
In chapter 1 Nick meets Gatsby and they are talking. Gatsby notices the green light and reaches
for it. Gatsby reaches for this green light because he is in love with Tom s wife, Daisy. He used
to be in love with her a long time ago when he was in the military. They could not stay together
because he wasn t rich and couldn t afford a wedding. Some say that Gatsby was in love with
Daisy s mansion and not Daisy. I believe that at this point the green light symbolizes hope. This
symbolizes the hope that one day he and Daisy will be together again and the hope that she is still
in love with him because he is still in love with her. I also believe that this light is a signal for help.

When it is mentioned again Gatsby is talking to Daisy. Gatsby at this point is having dinner with
Daisy and is talking about the green light. If it wasn t for the mist we could see your home
across the bay, said Gatsby. You always have a green light that burns all night at the end of your
dock. Daisy put her arm through his abruptly but he seemed absorbed in what he had just said.
Possibly it had occurred to him that the colossal significance of that light had now vanished. I
believe that this is the symbolism for fascination. I believe that it is fascinating to Gatsby. I also
believe that that this is why the light vanishes . The light vanishes because she is now with Gatsby
so she feels safe without

Jim Jones And Charles Manson Persuasion
Cults
Two of America s most famous cult leaders are Jim Jones and Charles Manson, they are powerful
leaders that drove their followers to commit insanely violent, and crazy acts. Today, many people
wonder what gave those men such power to influence their followers to commit crimes.
Jim Jones, for example, was a visionary and he used religion to influence his followers to join his
community . Jones persuasion was highly successful among the homeless, dispossessed, lonely,
and lower middle class. These individuals were drawn in large numbers to the Peoples Temple.
Using reams of personal documents and types of propaganda to recruit more people to
Jonestown. Jonestown gave them fellowship, a dream of social justice, social services clinics
for free health care, drug rehabs, legal aid, and a sense of purpose. Jones followers gave him all
their worldly possessions, money, and all the power he needed even though he was just as
average as his followers. Jones didn t start out as this powerful leader he came to be , he was
born into a bitterly unhappy home in Crete, Indiana. Jones himself was also a drug addict, a
sexual predator among both sexes, and somehow he accomplished to fake to a large amount of
people that he was against everything that he was still doing in secret (George Russell). Jim
eventually found his place as a member of a small Christian church in his home town. Jones said
he joined the religion because he never felt accepted, and he was drawn to fellow outcasts. He
soon acquired a gift for charismatic preaching and took it to neighborhoods that were populated
primarily by African American in the 1950s. It was in these neighborhoods where he preached
racial inclusion and gathered a mixed race congregation. This did not sit well with many people
in this era before the civil rights movement, and it added to his progressive reputation. He became
head of the Indianapolis Human Rights Commission, which is a large reason he would recruit
different ethnicities to join his temple. Jones also in order to get more members used informers in
his audiences to get information out of the unsuspecting faithful that he could reveal as evidence of
clairvoyant powers, and he hired fake invalids who would rise from

Some may find that collage is the most suited of paths to take, many problems may exist, many
questions in need of answering. With Fordham University and Full Sail University is a way to
reach opportunities that may motivate, excel, and improve the future as a student, and as a
working member of society. Fordham University can be a very impressive offer with its many
majors, goals, and challenges that can be explored and viewed. Restrictions of certain G.P.A
levels can be present and reviewed by the administration of both the schools, as well as the A.C.T.
and S.A.T scores. There are in schools of Fordham and Full Sail University ways to break the
walls of regulation by attending various scholarships the colleges offer, even the role that may have
been placed in the community oriented groups like F.C.C.L.A or even ILC can be very
beneficial. The location of both Fordham University and Full Sail University reside in heavy
populated urban cities which may pose a problem with for example prices as well as the
likelihood of being accepted may diminish. Each pro and con of the college s of Fordham and Full
Sail will always exist with the questions awaiting to be answered, by the goal students of the future
wish to find in each school, and to understand the task they wish to meet in there journey within.

Online Classroom Vs. Traditional Brick And Mortar Classroom
The first distinction between learning in an online classroom versus that of a traditional brick
and mortar classroom is that of time. Students log into their virtual classroom at times of their
choosing to learn and complete assignments. The virtual campus that we use has click functions
that are set up like a regular classroom. These functions mimic interactions between course
facilitators and students in traditional settings. V camp has an announcements section like a
bulletin board on a campus. We receive short notices from the facilitator such as reminders,
updates to schedules or other need to know information that doesn t require an email campaign
from the faculty. The attend section allows you watch your professor or facilitator deliver the
lesson in lecture format. This, in particular, will remind traditional learning students of sitting in
a classroom. One thing that is good about a recorded lecture is you can immediately replay a
section that you failed to understand and gain the knowledge that you require which may have
been missed in a regular classroom setting. The profiles section allows you meet your classmates
and see if any live near you to see if you can study together. The discuss section of the program
lets you carry on open dialogue with your classmates. Each student is required to answer the same
question regarding a section of the course in a certain format and reply to two other classmate s
posts. This requirement allows for a dialogue between

Analyse The Importance Of Being Earnest Satire Essay
The play, The Importance of Being Earnest, by Oscar Wilde was written during the Victorian Era,
characterized for its moral values. Throughout the play, Wilde used satire as comical relief to show
his deviance from the social order by making ridiculous the ideas of standards, morals and manners.
Oscar Wilde criticizes the superficiality of Victorian marriage and courtship through the character
Lady Bracknell and the name Earnest.
Lady Bracknell is presented by Wilde as the true definition of a satirical character. She uses
satirical comments to show her disinterest in Jack, the character that would like to marry her
daughter Gwendolen. Satire is expressed through the lines in which Lady Bracknell says, However,
I am quite ready to enter your name, should your answers be what a really affectionate ... Show

Do you smoke? (Wilde 20) In these lines, exaggeration is placed in a way that makes the reader
pause to question what was just said. As the reader, it is anticipated that Lady Bracknell will begin
asking a series of difficult questions, but instead she voices a more straightforward question. During
the Victorian Era, the mothers had a certain criteria that they wanted their daughter s courter to be
compliant with. Wilde created the element of satire by basically mocking interview questions
that could have possibly been asked during the Victorian Era. Along with having a specific
criteria, financial stability was extremely important to people during the Victorian Era. This
aspect of society is mocked by Wilde when Lady Bracknell states, A hundred and thirty thousand
pounds! And in the funds! Miss Cardew seems to me a most attractive young lady now that I
look at her. (Wilde 77) In the lines prior to this one, Lady Bracknell is showing her detest towards
Cecily until she asks about the money she has and her financial stability. It is then where she
decides that Cecily may not be that bad of a girl at all. This presents

The September 11, 2001 Attack On The United States
The September 11, 2001 attack on the United States will forever be remembered as one of the
darkest days we faced as a nation. Almost 3000 lives were taken that day by a terrorist group
using four commercial planes as weapons. Two of those planes were crashed into the World Trade
Center, the third into the Pentagon and the fourth falling short of the White House landing in a
field in Pennsylvania. The imagery of that heinous act still lingers among many including myself. I

The Knight And The Squire
In The Canterbury Tales, The Knight and the Squire are two characters that have many similarities
and differences. It is important to note the key traits that are the defining characteristics in each of
these two characteristics. They are very similar in the fact that they are family, they are both in the
Aristocrat class, and they are both respectful to others; but have many differences also. To start off,
the experiences of the Knightand the Squireare very different. On one hand, The Knight has fought
many battles. He makes sure to stay humble and not to brag about these wins. On the other hand,
the Squire has not been doing it long, so he has a significantly less amount of experience as his
father. In Canterbury Tales, The description

What Are The Similarities Between The Bank Of England Vs....
The Bank of England vs. the Altes Museum
European countries often used elements of the Greek architecture in their buildings. They became a
common part of official objects. The Bank of England (Great Britain) and the Altes Museum
(Germany) are good examples of this borrowing.
These buildings appeared in different countries and periods of time, but still have some similarities.
Both structures belong to the neoclassicism. The list of similarities includes pale frontispiece,
columns in front of the entrance, inner arches and an overall impression of a Greek building.
Rooms in both buildings have high ceilings, natural lighting and Greek style decorations. While
Bank and Museum have general similarities both are big old buildings with light colored outer
walls and elements of the Greek architecture in the exterior and interior, they have significant
differences.
THE BANK OF ENGLAND
The Bank of England was first built on the Threadneedle Street in 1734 by George Sampson. The
structure was rebuilt several times after that. This essay will focus on the period of time when the
Bank was overseen by Sir John Soane (1788 1833). The architect used elements of traditional Greek
architecture, but abandoned the conventional order of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

design. The term combines the chaos and order a union that can be seen in old British women,

Comparing Mulatto And A Raisin In The Sun
When looking at the origins of African American Dramas specifically in Mulatto, Native Son, A
Raisin in the Sun, Funnyhouse of a Negro, Great Goodness of Life, and Dutchman, the emotions of
all these characters created the sense that everyone in this time were still searching for their
identity. Each character in the plays had to overcome difficulties relating to their skin color, thus
causing either confusion or confidence in their search for what defines them as their self. It created
internal conflicts and they often blamed society for specific expectations and stereotypes. How the
characters decided to express their feelings in emotions demonstrates a sense of realism and how
they viewed themselves. In each play, we are able to see how the characters deal with the searching
of their identity through various emotions and internal conflicts through their life choices. In the

The Azusa Street revival of 1906 to 1909
The Azusa Street revival of 1906 to 1909 was an event that popularised the practice of charismatic
worship first in the United States and eventually throughout the Christian world. However,
representations of the revival in the early years of the 20th century were biased, and distorted the
events that occurred. Early believers portrayed the revival as an eschatological narrative in which
the power of God came down to earth and revolutionised the church, especially with the gift of
tongues. Pentecostal historians later mythologised Azusa Street representing the revival as the
birthplace of Pentecostalism. On the other hand, conservatives portrayed the events of the revival
as unbiblical and sinful, while secular critics depicted the revival... Show more content on

Furthermore such powerful claims were backed up with personal testimonies and letters which

According to Gaston Espinosa The Apostolic Faith paper was chock full of stories , which
described divine healings and spirit possession that became a driving force in attracting people to
the mission. Blumhofer adds that this periodical was also an effective representation as it was able
to resonate with widely scattered people . She continues that it also gave independent Charismatic s

hands of later writers who represented the movement in a negative light, especially after Seymour,
the founder of the mission, lost control of the paper. In Parham s hands the Apostolic faith journal
ridiculed the leader of Azusa Street, William Seymour, claiming bluntly he is not the leader of this
movement of Azusa mission . Parham later used the paper to condemn the Azusa street revival
altogether as a darky camp meeting However, After Parham disassociated himself from the mission;
the paper lost credibility and authority. Thus the early oral traditions and later Pentecostal writers
continued to shape the way that Pentecostals perceived themselves, silencing critics from within.

For children, the promise of health and successful personal development lies where they, and their
parents, can be meaningfully engaged with one another and with other families for mutual benefit.
A child who is not being stimulated by being played with, and who has very few opportunities to
explore things within their surroundings may fail to link up fully and this may lead to neural
connections and pathways which are required for lateral thinking (Sutton Smith, 1997).
Children are motivated to engage in active play because they perceived it to be enjoyable, to
prevent boredom, to have physical and mental health benefits and to provide freedom from adult
control, rules and structure. However, children s active play can be constrained by a number of
factors, including weather. Some features of the physical environment facilitated children s active
play, including the presence of green spaces and cul de sacs in the neighbourhoods (Brockman and
colleagues, 2011). Physically active play can make unique contributions to children s development
which cannot be obtained from more structured forms of physical activity.

Descriptive Essay About Sun Room
There are very few absolute truths in this world, truths that for thousands of years have been
consistent, and will be for thousands more. As for an example of these truths we should look no
further than our very own Sun. No matter the day, no matter the weather, the Sun will rise and fall
on its own time. Although this truthis not a hard one, infact it s a comforting and warming truth. The
truth that the night and the cold with it will always yield to a cold morning eventually. This
warmth has manifested itself in my own life in the form of a magnificient SunRoom in my new
house and if I could simply share the warmth of a sun room with every single person on this
planet I would and I have no doubt that the world would inevitable be a better place. Perhaps the
most amazing thing about our sun is its raw abdunence, on a sunny noon there s almost no
escaping the Suns bright, ubiquitous, rays. Life is long and can often be full of dark times,
however we have been fortunate enough to be blessed with our Sun, our warm, loyal Sun. One
thing i m not a very big fan of is change. That being said it s no surprise that I hate moving,
however my most recent move into my new house hasn t been bad for the sole reason of my newly
aquired Sun Room. When I first heard about the Sun Room I thought that it was tacky and a

Essay on Adolescent Substance Abuse
Running Header: Substance Abuse
Adolescent Substance Abuse
Dana Sweitzer
Liberty University
Abstract Adolescent substance abuse is a major problem in society. There are many risk factors that
can contribute to adolescent substance abuse. One of the main risk factors is peer pressure. When
adolescents start at a young age there is an increase in health problems, addiction, and over all poor
social outcomes. Parental influence has substantial effect on adolescents because the adolescent
sees their parents and they learn by their example. Media plays a role in the use of drug and alcohol
use among young people. Many school systems have implemented programs that teach adolescents
about the problems of substance abuse that is funded ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Among adolescents aged 12 to 17 years, 9.8 % are estimated to be current users of illicit drugs,
with 4.9 % using drugs other than marijuana. Nearly three quarters of students have started to
drink alcohol and nearly half (47%) have tried using an illicit drug (not including alcohol or
tobacco) by the senior year of high school. (Hassan, Harris, Sherritt, Van Hook, amp; Brooks, 2009)
Media has a lot to do with adolescent substance abuse. Many times in advertisement, adolescents
see people drinking alcohol and having a great time. Media spends over $25 billion dollars on
advertisement yearly. Many celebrities are seen smoking or drinking alcohol in movies, TV, and on
commercials. This makes adolescents think that drinking, smoking, and taking drugs are cool and
will make them popular. Over 5000 deaths yearly are caused by alcohol consumption. (Strasburger,
2010)
Parental and peer influence plays an important role in adolescent substance abuse. Peer pressure can
influence each adolescent either indirectly or directly. Peer pressure is the most frequently
discussed risk factor. Peer substance abuse is the leading cause of adolescent substance abuse.
Parental influence can be positive or negative. They can have a significant influence on adolescents.

La Movida MadrileГ±a
La Movida MadrileГ±a, meaning The Action of Madrid , was an unplanned countercultural
movement from 1977 to 1985 in Spain. It began when Dictator Francisco Franco died and Spain
erupted with pent up energy. It was a movement that valued style over substance. The cultural
revolution was evident in the music, subculture, fashion, alcohol, drugs, and sexual

Im Not Scared
In Niccolo Ammaniti s masterpiece, I m Not Scared, we explore the plight of human endeavour
against all odds. We learn of the climate and poverty that makes the inhabitants of Acqua Traverse
victims of circumstance, and ultimately drives them to persecute other people in the continuous
pursuit of money and exceptional livelihoods. Clearly, Michele is not the only victimin Ammaniti s

morality, and separates him from everyone else in the story.

Black Like Me, By John Howard Griffin
Over fifty years ago, a Texan named John Howard Griffin decided to start a revolutionary
experiment to change the color of his skin and experience racism in the South firsthand. While
considered extremely controversial at the time, the arguments and teachings of Griffin in his book,
Black Like Me, are still scrutinized and discussed today. The book has continued to enlighten
readers to the oppressive, violent racismin America, and aided them in realizing that racism, while
it may be hidden, is still prevalent today. It has encouraged a new generation to work towards
equality, while warning about the dangers of supremacy, to progressively improve society for all.

While it may be harmless, it still exists today. The idea that someone is different will
subconsciously make one act different, as Banaji experiences (Vedantam). Griffin too experiences
this, when he is hitchhiking and white males are offering him rides; he is astounded that they
would ask such provoking and private questions about his personal life. Griffin realizes that they
would not ask the same questions to a white man for the fear of being rude, but when talking to a
black man, they see them as subhuman (Griffin 86). Many would believe it is not a racist act, as
the white men are helping them and they are not harming them. However, by treating them so
rudely and cruelly, while it may be unconsciously, they are affecting them psychologically, which is
possible to do in many ways.
As society has progressed towards non violence, racism has changed into a different form, with
harsher psychological effects. A main cause of this psychological effect of racism is the
stereotyping that society has accepted as normal (Anderson). Although it may be unintentional, it
is easy to deny stereotyping exists, but difficult to prove that it does not exist. As Griffin
recounts, white society had everything sewed up. If you didn t...say yes, you were in deep
trouble. If you did, then you allowed [them] to go...on believing in the stereotype (Griffin 167). He

Drunkard s Walk By Mlodinow Summary
This is not a self help book for alcoholics as one may assume. This is a book about probability,
chance, randomness and the roles they play in our lives and how we misinterpret the
significance of life from a small conversation to a huge economic setback and draw improper
conclusions. Consequently, successes and defeats in life are frequently accredited to obvious
cases, when in reality they are prompted by chance. The term drunkard s walk is a mathematical
process that essentially is a process of random meanderings, in which one or more variables change
value in a series of random steps. This is a good metaphor for our process of life because even
though we may think we have a direction, make plans, and work hard to get to where we are in...

For instance, when a coin is tossed once, the anticipated result of it landing on heads or tails is
fifty percent. You could toss the coin five times and the coin could land on heads five times in a
row, but the anticipated result remains 50 percent. The more times you toss the coin, the closer
the anticipated result of landing on heads or tails will be to fifty percent, although the coin
might land on the same side numerous times in a row, as the number of tosses increases, the
percentage of times the coin will land on heads will congregate close to fifty percent. How many
trials we must complete to obtain a result that s close to the real value at a certain confidence.
When people see real random series of coin tosses it looks weird to them because that is not what
they are expecting. Mlodinow says, the key to understanding this, is Gerolamo Cardano s
method. To place the odds for any event, we must construct a sample space of all the possible
turn outs. If we were to use the example of a woman having two children the first being a girl,
the chance that the second child would also be a girl is 50 50, correct? This is not correct. Cardano
s method tells us that the possibilities are girl boy, boy girl, and girl girl. The chance that second
child is also a girl is

The Duality Within People By Christopher Nolan s The Dark...
The Duality Within People The eternal struggle between good and evil is seen within human
nature, as it is one of the most complex and controversial topics analyzed by many philosophers
since the Ancient Greeks. The confrontation and differences of good and evil are displayed in
Christopher Nolan s The Dark Knight, through the character of Harvey Dent, who becomes Two
Face. Two Face plays a crucial role for the understanding of human nature, as he is a manifestation
of the inner turmoil of good versus evilthat resides within people. Two Face s corrupted and evil
environment, Gotham City, contributes to the cultivation of his inner evil. The sad and negative
situations that Two Face experiences are also a cause to the development of his dark side.
Furthermore, the evil desires and feelings that Two Face has, add to his evil persona. In The Dark
Knight, Two Face portrays the close connection between good and evil, and how certain elements
that dominate in an individual s nature can make their evil outweigh their goodness. The
environment, and the people that have influence on one s life, have an impact upon whether one
is good or evil. In The Dark Knight, Harvey Dent, the attorney of Gotham, possesses the desire to
do good in the city, by fighting to make Gotham a better place. He is known as The White Knight,
thus people look up to him as he lives a life within the bounds of law, and only believes in what is
the right thing to do. Hence, during this time Dent s inner

Eating Traditional Portuguese Food In My Family
Eating traditional Portuguese food was a way of connecting with my living family members and
ancestors. Preparing, eating, sharing these foods, as well as sharing the stories associated with them
were vital in the maintenance of my Portuguese identity. The first few months of being vegan were
difficult because I struggled to fit in. Eatingat the dinner table with my aunts, uncles, and cousins
became an uncomfortable activity. I was constantly met with criticism, confusion, and
disappointment. I was also pressured, from several familymembers, to return to my past ways of
eating. I could no longer share in the experience of eating these traditional foods with my family.
They felt like I was rejecting them, which was definitely not the case. Although foodis a major part
of my culture, it is not the only thing that connects me to it. I can still engage with song,
language, and dance. Those things were important for me to remember when I first started out as
a vegan. My decision to stop eating meat and dairy wasn t about my family. It was about living in
a way that does the least harm to the planet and its sentient beings. Nowadays, I m experiencing
more understanding from my family. Some of them have been doing their own research and are
open to having conversations with me about eating ethically. Of course, there are a lot of
conversations that still need to happen.
I am fortunate enough to have an immediate family that enjoys eating fruits and vegetables. During

The Ethical Debate On Prostitution
The ethical debate regarding the numerous views on prostitution dates back numerous decades.
Prostitution is seen by many as the absolute embodiment of patriarchal male privilege, clearly
disallowing feminist support or participation (Kesler, 2002, p. 219). However, views vary widely
when assessing different studies such as those that measure the possible harm risks inflected on
women working in the field. There are two main opposing views on this subject matter, the liberal
and the feminist. Those who view prostitutionaccording to a liberal paradigm embrace the view
that prostitution, in its ideal form, must be viewed as a voluntary contract (Peterson Iyer, 1998, p.
25). On the other hand, as Alison Jaggar points out, a liberal... Show more content on

The overall moral of her article is to sustain the raising of awareness regarding probable physical,
emotional or psychological harm in which prostitutes continue to experience. Also, she attempts to
find a middle ground in which feminists may still speak up without neglecting the real needs of
modern day prostitutes. It is important, however, to acknowledge the existing social divide between
feminists and prostitutes. Rebecca Whisnant and Christine Stark (2004) challenge this perception
through identifying the divide in which we assume that whoever we are, the prostitute is not (p.
296). I will proceed by discussing the liberal views debated in this article.
Peterson Iyer claims that the most common approach taken by prostitutes organizations is to view
prostitution as a matter of individual free choice (p. 24). Furthermore, they emphasize the essential
autonomy of the prostitute and the client: they are two adult persons who agree to a mutually
beneficial arrangement (p. 26). However, these arrangements could deter in some unfortunate cases
such as dishonest police, intrusive laws, or customers who fail to hold up one end of the bargain
(p. 26). As well, it is common for prostitutes to experience physical and emotional abuse from their
clients, pimps and the police. These occurrences correlate to the experiences upheld by those who

School Cafeteria Food Essay
Have you ever tasted school cafeteria food? I don t think you would want to. In school story books,
do you have characters saying that the food tasted good at school cafeterias? Nope. Why is this?
Cafeteria food is often cheap, bought in bulk, high in calories, malnutritious, and microwaved.
Student polls and opinions prove this. Therefore, this leads to a suggestion: Healthier, tastier foods
and a better, advanced lunch system should be implemented. First of all, students aren t motivated
to eat unhealthy, not tasty food. If you observed students buying lunch in the cafeteria, you don t
often see them buying these kinds, but not limited to, foodstuffs: burritos (which are just beans
wrapped in tortillas), burgers (meat slapped on two... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A simple salad bar and healthier, tastier foods (such as soup, sandwiches, pasta, etc.) would be
the key to flourishing and happy or happier students. On the other hand, you may be thinking,
$3.75 $4.75 is cheap for a school lunch , Who would pay for it? , or If it s good enough for
school standards, then it MUST be healthy . $3.75 $4.75 is not cheap with the economy failing
and families having to stretch their dollars. About a year ago, the lunch was $2.50. If a student
bought a $4.75 lunch every day for a month, about thirty days, the total would be $142.50.
Multiply that by twelve months and it is $1,710 a YEAR. Compared to the $900 a year with the
$2.50 meal, lunch prices ARE pretty darn expensive. Secondly, if enhanced foods and lunch
system were implemented, some might say it would take a huge amount of money to actually
start the project. However, if tax dollars are enough to pay for billion dollar roads, then it s
enough to start a respectable lunch system. A portion of the tax dollars could be used instead of
it all going to highway and road construction. Finally, the food may fit school standards, but it
may not be such a good choice. Most people eat 2,000 to 2,500 calories a day, depending on their
needs. How healthy could a tortilla with beans, or a piece of meat slapped between two slices of
bread, be? Not to mention the amounts of saturated fat, trans fat, and salt! If you checked the

How Athletes Are Overpaid
How much of an importance on productivity do athletes have on today s society? Whether they
have little to none, their contracts and endorsements tend to say otherwise. For example, David
Beckham, a retired Los Angeles Galaxy soccer player, has received a forty eight million dollar
career total, while a GS 13 level astronaut makes roughly one hundred thousand dollars a year.
Some say that athletes earn their money just as we do, but that is not so apparent. Another
example is how Kobe Bryant is making twenty three million dollars this year. According to his
agent though, his on court abilities plus his talent justify his earnings, if this was the point in all
jobs, then doctors and lawyers would be making millions while athletes are put on the
backburner of society. This issue is so insanely horrible that bottom of the totem pole athletes are
still making hundreds of thousands more than most PhD graduates receive. Same goes for
injured players too. If an athlete is injured, then he is unable to play, yet he still receives his
money, because once the contract is signed, what is done is done. Athletes were not always paid
more than CEOs in today s market. In early stages of the American Football system, when it was
not corrupted, almost all of the players had to have a normal day job on top of playing, because
they played for fun, not for money. In today s economy, athletes and their pay checks are far too

avoid the confusion of reserving one vehicle for two clients which is a common problem when
using manual systems To the Client/customer
The customer will not have to travel to the company offices for Him to reserve of rent a vehicle. He
will do so at the comfort of his home or office.
1.4Problem Statement
Currently the system being used is a manual one where clients have to come physically into the
office in order for them to rent or reserve a vehicle. The system poses a number of challenges that
include:
1.Time consuming
In the current system, clients have to come to the company offices physically in order to rent or
reserve a vehicle which is a waste of time.
When there are many clients to be attended to it may take long for the company staff to serve all of
them.
2.Error Prone
The company staff are very likely to make errors when using the current manual system, for
example it is very easy to reserve one car for two clients, under charge or overcharge a client.
3.Cost
The operating cost of the current System is high but with the implementation of the Automated
System only a few no of staff will be able to run the System.
1.5 Proposed solution
The problems of the current System will be addressed by the development of an online vehicle
rental and reservation System so that customers do not need to walk in or call in

The Importance Of Popular Culture In The Classroom
Popular culture brings in other forms of literacy
Popular culture exists at home but not so much at school classrooms. Few of them incorporate these
popular cultural resources into the curriculum and they are underrepresented compared with the
school literacy (Marsh, 2013; Rets, 2016). Many teachers view the skills and knowledge gained
from home, including popular culture, as having little value in the classroom context (Shegar
Weninger, 2010, p.432). Reading and writing then becomes the dominated discourse in the
classrooms, which is mainly focused on books and print texts (Marsh, 2013; Shegar Weninger,
2010). These skills are used to as the only way to assess children s literacy skills, such as
standardized testing, which set limits to literacy learning and practices. Literacy learning is mostly
skill driven, and teacher centered. Thus, a gap exists between home literacy and school literacy
(Rets, 2016; Shegar Weninger, 2010). In addition, teachers also lack knowledge and awareness of
children s popular culture, so they avoid incorporating it into the classroom (Shegar Weninger,
2010).
However, as mentioned earlier, popular culture is an integral part of home literacy. It exists in
children s conversation, play, drawing, and writing (Dunn, Niens, McMillan, 2014). Children
experience a much more diverse literacy environment where they consume popular culture and
multimodal texts on a daily basis. Popular culture exists in many different ways such as TV, movies,

The Demand Theory And Theories Of Corruption
Theories of corruption generally fall under two classifications i.e. demand theories and supply
theories. Demand theory models of corruption include two approaches: resource allocation
models and the principal agent relationship models (Jain, 1998). Resource allocation models
evaluate the costs of the allocation of resources to bribe seeking activities. The model is based
on the principle that bribe seeking is one aspect of any economic activity and thus part of a firm s
resources are devoted to this pursuit (Krueger, 1974). In a competitive system, bribe seeking
chances are produced either by agents over government policy or by underlying societal features
(Mauro, 1995).
Principal agent models of corruption postulate that the misuse of power by individuals

Corruption is discussed in fields as diverse as economics, political science, anthropology, sociology,
history, organization studies, international business, business ethics, psychology, and philosophy.
According to Caiden (2001, 19), anthropologists found that public officials were distinguished from
the rest of the population for their unique role in providing services and goods to the rest of the
population. These public officials are expected to possess professional integrity, and consequently
uphold the public interest. Therefore, the public officials also contribute to good governance.
Corruption is barely a problem that is exclusive to developing countries (Klitgaard, 1998:3).
Additionally, according to various researches, (Transparency International, 2011 and Kligaard 1998)
corruption is mostly rampart in Africa.

Human Trafficking And Human Rights Violations
Human trafficking is one of today s egregious human rights violations. Traffickers focus on the
most vulnerable members of society, preying mostly on women, and children, yet men are also
trafficked in high numbers. Trafficking of a person refers to the, illegal trade of a human being for
sexual exploitation or forced labor through abduction, force, threat, or fraud (UNOC 2015). Human
traffickingcan come in many forms such as, sex exploitation, forced labour, as well as forced
donor ship. The truth about human trafficking is very much misunderstood in today s culture.
Many victims of human trafficking consent to leaving their home country to enter into a world
filled with hope and promise, only to find themselves in equally bad, if not worse living
conditions. Human trafficking has been increasing in countries all over the globe especially
Southeast Asian countries such as Thailand. There is a misunderstanding that this global issue
only happens in third world countries, but civilized countries are involved as well. In the United
States over the past several years, human trafficking has become a rapidly growing problem
specifically in three cities in California: Los Angeles, San Diego, and San Fransisco.
Sex Exploitation: Thailand Thailand is one of the major destinations, and transit countries for
trafficking in women and children for the purpose of sexual exploitation. The issue of sex
exploitation is partially the fault of geography. By land Thailand borders several

John Lennon Essay examples
John Lennon
John Lennon was a great song writer and musician. He played the rhythm guitar, the piano, and
sang. He was in the most popular group in the history of rock music. In 1959, John founded this
group, called The Beatles.
The original Beatles were John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Pete Best.
Brian Epstein became the manager of the Beatles in 1961. Epstein made many changes in the group.
John rebelled and did not want to quot;package quot; and

John s protests.

John was influenced by many things in 1965 1966 such as psychedelia, marijuana, and Bob Dylan.
Many felt that these years were the best song writing years of John Lennon s life.
1966 The Beatles had been touring for over four years, and they, especially John were tired of it.
John wanted to spend more time with his wife,
Cynthia, and his song, Julian. At one time, they had to do 32 concerts in 19 days. On their next
album, Beatles For Sale, the material reflected how unhappy
John and Paul were with life on the road. Songs like quot;I m a Loser quot; and quot;No
Reply quot; spoke of depression and the frenzy of life in the spotlight. John once said, quot;It s
like we re four freaks being wheeled out to be seen, shake our hair about, and get back into our cage
afterwards. quot;
The Beatles felt that they needed to work only in the studio now. So, on August 29, 1966, The
Beatles performed their last live performance ever at
Candlestick Park in San Francisco, California.
Almost a year later, Brian Epstein, the Beatles Manager was found dead in his apartment of a
suicidal overdose. This caused many problems for the group. John later admitted that quot; The

Use Of Sarty In William Faulkner s Barn Burning
In Barn Burning, William Faulkner uses a stylistic choice of limited third person point of view in
order to create dramatic irony of Sarty s limited understanding of the reality of the court case.
Unlike a first person point of view, limited third person provides the reader with details about the
supporting characters and the court case that Sarty does not fully comprehend. Limited third person
point of view is effective in showing dramatic irony because it shows how Sarty does not
understand what is going on around him. Although Sarty s father believes society to be cruel, he
comes to the realization that society is sympathetic. For example, Sarty was called up to the stand
to testify against his father. Although, he did not testify because

The Apostle Paul
3.1Describe Paul s gospel in regards to the elements he learned from the disciples in Jerusalem
and in regards to those elements he received by revelation. To whom did Paul talk when he went
to Jerusalem? How do we know? Show the similarities and differences between tradition and
revelation in Paul s gospel.
Three years after his conversion, Paul went to Jerusalem to meet with Cephas (Peter). He remained
in Jerusalem for fifteen days. After this time, he also met with James, the Lord s brother. It was
from Peter that Paul learned of the tradition, i.e., the details of Jesus teachings during His earthly
ministry. It was important for Paul to inquire about the teachings that the disciples had received
from the Lord during his time on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In discussing the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ, Paul uses almost the same words to convey
the fact that he was transmitting the original traditions. He says in I Corinthians, For I delivered to
you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins...
In the parable of the prodigal son , Jesus tells of a father s unconditional love and acceptance to his
repentant son to illustrate God the Father s unconditional love and grace to repentant sinners. Paul
follows accordingly in his teaching where he emphasizes that believers are no longer slaves but
legitimate sons and heirs of God.
In the parable of the laborers in the vineyard, Jesus teaches that His love and grace are unmerited
and do not depend on what one does or doesn t do. Grace is grace, and it is free for all at
whatever time of life it is accepted. Paul s teaching confirms this. In Galatians, Paul reproves the
Galatian believers for thinking that salvation could be changed from faith in God s grace to
dependence on the law. The merging of tradition and revelation in both of the gospel parables
mentioned above resonate with me. It is important for contemporary hearers of the Word of God to
know that the salvation from God is unconditional and unmerited. It is not dependent on what one
does or doesn t do, but on the love and grace of almighty God through His Son Jesus

Global climate change has been a concern for everyone since scientists first discovered that our
actions from polluting can have drastic effects on our environment. Many scientists began to note
the changes in the atmosphere and temperature, global warming, in the mid 1800 s. Many people
believe that the Earth s climate cycles and changes periodically over time. Many believe that the
changes occur as a result of human activity. The big questions is what effect is our activity having
on the environment.

The Kyoto Protocol has several provisions that allow for geographic flexibility. Reductions in costs
can also be done through international trade of emissions rights. This will also depend largely on
how many countries participate in this trade. The economic costs will also depend on the length of
time a country has to enact the changes needed to fit their requirements. The longer a country
procrastinates the more expensive it will be.
Recommend a policy for climate change
There are many ideas out there on how to reduce GHG through various policies, but, coming up
with an idea on short notice is not an easy task. The best thing to do is come up with some goals
that have worked over time and put those together as one idea.
The first though would be working as a whole. Done just make this a political objective, make it
a national objective. Get the people of our country involved. Ask them for ideas and what they can
do to help out. Find ways for smaller communities to get involved and set up models for cities to
help them with ideas to reduce emissions. Many cities like Tokyo, Japan have train systems that
reduce the number of cars used by the public.
The plans have to be more individualized by area because some may need more attention than
others. Some parts of the US might not need any adjustments while other places need more.
Southern California, for example has immense smog issues and is

Social Norms Essay
My mother has always told me that certain things should not be done in public. Social norms are
opinions and beliefs that are shared amongst a group. Throughout our lives our parents tell us
things that aren t socially acceptable, and that there are consequences for those actions. Those that
don t act in ways that are socially acceptable are isolated from society. Norms help to guide the
general public by reinforcing it with a punishment in waiting. For my experiment on breaking
norms, I choose to chew with my mouth open in the Clinton Dining Hall, and Subway s eating

chewing with my mouth open. I received many weird faces from females more than males. I
was more comfortable doing this experiment because I already did it in a more populous area in

This two part experiment leads me to realize that norms are very important in society. It keeps us

Diesel Fuel Vs. Diesel Engines
Who would like to drive a car that gets mediocre gas mileage, a car that has lower torque, and a car
that is all round mediocre? Now who would like to drive a car with improved gas mileage, superior
torque, and a great, reliable engine? The obvious choice is the latter, a car with a diesel engine.
Diesel and gasoline engines have been each other s competition since the 1930 s when the first
diesel run car was produced. There is one main mechanical difference between these two engines; a
gasoline engine ignites the gasoline with spark plugs, a lighter of sorts, and the diesel engine ignites
the diesel by compressing it so much that it spontaneously combusts. Although there are a few other
types of engines now, such as hybrid or electric, diesel is still superior to these.
I have spent numerous hours doing extensive research on the different aspects of diesel engines and
have come up with the conclusion that they are the superior motor.
Through the course of this speech I will show you why going diesel is the better choice, and
prompt you to make the switch to diesel if you have not done so already.
The three main reasons that diesel is better compared to all other engines are: they last longer, they
are more economical, and they are capable of running off of biodiesel.
First, diesel engines last longer and are structurally stronger than all other types of engines.
Diesel engines are much stronger than gasoline, hybrid, or electric engines, and they run for a

Frankenstein As The Master In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
In Mary Shelly`s book, Frankenstein, Frankenstein tells Walton this story to attempt to free him
from being a slave to his desire to be something greater than he was destined to be. Frankenstein
tells of how he turned from his human nature and created another human being, thus giving way to
how the story moved on. However there were many repeated themes such as those of heaven and
hell, God and Adam, as well as the ideal of a master and a slave. This, the master and slave,
comparison is brought up a few times within the book between the monster and Frankenstein.
Through the text, it would be implied that even though the Monster or Frankenstein could be
viewed as the masters , neither of them are truly free, but rather slaves to their own emotions....

They could also be led to this conclusion because of Frankenstein is able to create the monster a
companion, as the monsters asks him too. The monster directly asks Frankenstein to do this in
the book, You must create a Female for me with whom I can live in the interchange of those
sympathies necessary for my being. (Shelley 140). From that we can see how the monster feels
that he needs a companion, and demands that Frankenstein makes him one, and even demands it,
directly stating that, ...I demand it of you as a right that you cannot refuse to concede. (140).
From this, the idea could be pulled that the monster is not the master, demanding his slave to do
as he wishes, but instead a slave begging for his master to give him what is rightfully his.
Frankenstein would even have been able to hunt down the monster, and kill it before it caused any
trouble, however he was unwilling to because it would harm his reputation and possibly kill him.
The reader would also be able to pull out of the text that the monster may be the Master, seeing as
how it (the monster) causes Frankenstein pain by killing his friends, family and even having a
direct effect on Frankenstein `s emotions, but that leads my directly to my next

After reading The Epic of Gilgamesh, I have come to realize that Gilgamesh is not a hero, but a

Gilgamesh just kills Humbaba to look stronger even though Humbaba is not doing any harm to

Gilgamesh a hero is because they are not difficult for him. He is hardly struggling to complete
them and being constantly challenged is part of beings a hero. Gilgamesh s mentor is Inkidu.
The hero is supposed to respect the mentor while Gilgamesh indirectly kills his. When Inkidu
and Gilgamesh kill Humbaba the Gods kill Inkidu as a punishment. Not only did Gilgamesh hurt
the Gods, but he also let his mentor die for his mistakes. After undergoing the trails, the hero

Gilgamesh the abyss is when Inkidu dies. Gilgamesh is completely at fault for his own abyss.
He is upset when he is actually the one who caused the problem. After the abyss, the hero is
raised back up again and moves on to the return. In the return, the hero is praised for the good
that he, or she, has brought to the people. Gilgamesh is only praised because he is a king and the
people have to respect the king. They can t respect him for his journey because he doesn t bring

Comparison of the Works of Smith and Morales
A literary comparison of What It s Like to Be a Black Girl by Patricia Smith and Child of the
Americas by Aurora Levins Morales The beauty of any work of Art is the hidden meaning in it,
or to be more accurate the concept or the thought which is the driving force, the main inspiration
for the artist. It is this thought that becomes the back bone of the work of Art, let it be anything
from a Painting, Sculpture, Music, Food and Literature. And since Literature provides us in
some manner the concept or the details of the main subject within its text form, therefore the
interpretation and the recognition of the main theme becomes fairly obvious. For this paper, we
would be considering two works of Literature, one is What it s like to be a Black Girl by Patricia
Smith and the second one being the Child of the Americas by Aurora Levins Morales. Both of
these poems take up the topic of racism and how it is to belong to an American society labeled
as one race or the other. The paper would also see if and how the same subject of racism has been
approached by the two poets in different manner and what their personal feelings are of the
concerned subject. Born in 1955, Patricia Smith poetry is considered as a testament to the power
of words to change lives, (Blue Flower Arts, n.d.). She is a critically acclaimed author of six
poetry volumes and latest work Blood Dazzler which documents the tragedy of Hurricane Katrina

While they had there mouths moving, Judy s pen rolled over and fell. Hold on, let me get that. She got out of the chair and went under the table. With that, Nick got distracted, looking over at Alex. He was talking to some others, New to the force like him.. Alex looked over and waved. Nick waved back with a smile and looked awaw, so Alex didn t get suspicious. He sat his head up with his arm and Judy came back up. Alright, now whe and she noticed Nick slump over on his arm. Nick, is something bothering you? Nick jumped up and turned to Judy. No, nothing is wrong. You sure, you were laying there what a glum look on your face. Yea, I m fine. You don t have to worry. Judy was giving a suspicious look as she stared at him. • 4. What Does The Green Light Symbolize In Chapter 1 In the novel The Great Gatsby, there is a lot of symbolism. There are huge, obvious and also small, hard to see symbolic messages. One of the small and hard to see symbolic messages is the green light at the end of Daisy s dock. Depending on the things going on in the book, depends on the symbolism in my eyes. I believe that the greenlight in chapter 1 means that there is hope, when mentioned in chapter 5 it means fascination, and in chapter 9, I believe that the green light symbolizes sadness. In chapter 1 Nick meets Gatsby and they are talking. Gatsby notices the green light and reaches for it. Gatsby reaches for this green light because he is in love with Tom s wife, Daisy. He used to be in love with her a long time ago when he was in the military. They could not stay together because he wasn t rich and couldn t afford a wedding. Some say that Gatsby was in love with Daisy s mansion and not Daisy. I believe that at this point the green light symbolizes hope. This symbolizes the hope that one day he and Daisy will be together again and the hope that she is still in love with him because he is still in love with her. I also believe that this light is a signal for help. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When it is mentioned again Gatsby is talking to Daisy. You always have a green light that burns all night at the end of your dock. Daisy put her arm through his abruptly but he seemed absorbed in what he had just said. Possibly it had occurred to him that the colossal significance of that light had now vanished. I believe that this is the symbolism for fascination. I believe that it is fascinating to Gatsby. • 5. Jim Jones And Charles Manson Persuasion Cults Two of America s most famous cult leaders are Jim Jones and Charles Manson, they are powerful leaders that drove their followers to commit insanely violent, and crazy acts. Today, many people wonder what gave those men such power to influence their followers to commit crimes. Jim Jones, for example, was a visionary and he used religion to influence his followers to join his community . Jones persuasion was highly successful among the homeless, dispossessed, lonely, and lower middle class. These individuals were drawn in large numbers to the Peoples Temple. Using reams of personal documents and types of propaganda to recruit more people to Jonestown. Jonestown gave them fellowship, a dream of social justice, social services clinics for free health care, drug rehabs, legal aid, and a sense of purpose. Jones followers gave him all their worldly possessions, money, and all the power he needed even though he was just as average as his followers. Jones didn t start out as this powerful leader he came to be , he was born into a bitterly unhappy home in Crete, Indiana. Jones himself was also a drug addict, a sexual predator among both sexes, and somehow he accomplished to fake to a large amount of people that he was against everything that he was still doing in secret (George Russell). Jim eventually found his place as a member of a small Christian church in his home town. Jones said he joined the religion because he never felt accepted, and he was drawn to fellow outcasts. He soon acquired a gift for charismatic preaching and took it to neighborhoods that were populated primarily by African American in the 1950s. It was in these neighborhoods where he preached racial inclusion and gathered a mixed race congregation. This did not sit well with many people in this era before the civil rights movement, and it added to his progressive reputation. He became head of the Indianapolis Human Rights Commission, which is a large reason he would recruit different ethnicities to join his temple. Jones also in order to get more members used informers in his audiences to get information out of the unsuspecting faithful that he could reveal as evidence of clairvoyant powers, and he hired fake invalids who would rise from ... • 9. Online Classroom Vs. Traditional Brick And Mortar Classroom The first distinction between learning in an online classroom versus that of a traditional brick and mortar classroom is that of time. Students log into their virtual classroom at times of their choosing to learn and complete assignments. The virtual campus that we use has click functions that are set up like a regular classroom. These functions mimic interactions between course facilitators and students in traditional settings. V camp has an announcements section like a bulletin board on a campus. We receive short notices from the facilitator such as reminders, updates to schedules or other need to know information that doesn t require an email campaign from the faculty. The attend section allows you watch your professor or facilitator deliver the lesson in lecture format. This, in particular, will remind traditional learning students of sitting in a classroom. One thing that is good about a recorded lecture is you can immediately replay a section that you failed to understand and gain the knowledge that you require which may have been missed in a regular classroom setting. The profiles section allows you meet your classmates and see if any live near you to see if you can study together. The discuss section of the program lets you carry on open dialogue with your classmates. Each student is required to answer the same question regarding a section of the course in a certain format and reply to two other classmate s posts. This requirement allows for a dialogue between ... • 10. Analyse The Importance Of Being Earnest Satire Essay The play, The Importance of Being Earnest, by Oscar Wilde was written during the Victorian Era, characterized for its moral values. Throughout the play, Wilde used satire as comical relief to show his deviance from the social order by making ridiculous the ideas of standards, morals and manners. Oscar Wilde criticizes the superficiality of Victorian marriage and courtship through the character Lady Bracknell and the name Earnest. Lady Bracknell is presented by Wilde as the true definition of a satirical character. She uses satirical comments to show her disinterest in Jack, the character that would like to marry her daughter Gwendolen. Satire is expressed through the lines in which Lady Bracknell says, However, I am quite ready to enter your name, should your answers be what a really affectionate ... As the reader, it is anticipated that Lady Bracknell will begin asking a series of difficult questions, but instead she voices a more straightforward question. During the Victorian Era, the mothers had a certain criteria that they wanted their daughter s courter to be compliant with. Wilde created the element of satire by basically mocking interview questions that could have possibly been asked during the Victorian Era. Along with having a specific criteria, financial stability was extremely important to people during the Victorian Era. This aspect of society is mocked by Wilde when Lady Bracknell states, A hundred and thirty thousand pounds! And in the funds! Miss Cardew seems to me a most attractive young lady now that I look at her. (Wilde 77) In the lines prior to this one, Lady Bracknell is showing her detest towards Cecily until she asks about the money she has and her financial stability. It is then where she decides that Cecily may not be that bad of a girl at all. This presents ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. What Are The Similarities Between The Bank Of England Vs.... The Bank of England vs. the Altes Museum European countries often used elements of the Greek architecture in their buildings. They became a common part of official objects. The Bank of England (Great Britain) and the Altes Museum (Germany) are good examples of this borrowing. These buildings appeared in different countries and periods of time, but still have some similarities. Both structures belong to the neoclassicism. The list of similarities includes pale frontispiece, columns in front of the entrance, inner arches and an overall impression of a Greek building. Rooms in both buildings have high ceilings, natural lighting and Greek style decorations. While Bank and Museum have general similarities both are big old buildings with light colored outer walls and elements of the Greek architecture in the exterior and interior, they have significant differences. THE BANK OF ENGLAND The Bank of England was first built on the Threadneedle Street in 1734 by George Sampson. The structure was rebuilt several times after that. The Azusa Street revival of 1906 to 1909 The Azusa Street revival of 1906 to 1909 was an event that popularised the practice of charismatic worship first in the United States and eventually throughout the Christian world. However, representations of the revival in the early years of the 20th century were biased, and distorted the events that occurred. Early believers portrayed the revival as an eschatological narrative in which the power of God came down to earth and revolutionised the church, especially with the gift of tongues. Pentecostal historians later mythologised Azusa Street representing the revival as the birthplace of Pentecostalism. On the other hand, conservatives portrayed the events of the revival as unbiblical and sinful, while secular critics depicted the revival... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Griffin realizes that they would not ask the same questions to a white man for the fear of being rude, but when talking to a black man, they see them as subhuman (Griffin 86). Many would believe it is not a racist act, as the white men are helping them and they are not harming them. However, by treating them so rudely and cruelly, while it may be unconsciously, they are affecting them psychologically, which is possible to do in many ways. As society has progressed towards non violence, racism has changed into a different form, with harsher psychological effects. A main cause of this psychological effect of racism is the stereotyping that society has accepted as normal (Anderson). Consequently, successes and defeats in life are frequently accredited to obvious cases, when in reality they are prompted by chance. The term drunkard s walk is a mathematical process that essentially is a process of random meanderings, in which one or more variables change value in a series of random steps. The Duality Within People The eternal struggle between good and evil is seen within human nature, as it is one of the most complex and controversial topics analyzed by many philosophers since the Ancient Greeks. The confrontation and differences of good and evil are displayed in Christopher Nolan s The Dark Knight, through the character of Harvey Dent, who becomes Two Face. Two Face plays a crucial role for the understanding of human nature, as he is a manifestation of the inner turmoil of good versus evilthat resides within people. Two Face s corrupted and evil environment, Gotham City, contributes to the cultivation of his inner evil. The sad and negative situations that Two Face experiences are also a cause to the development of his dark side. Furthermore, the evil desires and feelings that Two Face has, add to his evil persona. In The Dark Knight, Two Face portrays the close connection between good and evil, and how certain elements that dominate in an individual s nature can make their evil outweigh their goodness. The environment, and the people that have influence on one s life, have an impact upon whether one is good or evil. About a year ago, the lunch was $2.50. If a student bought a $4.75 lunch every day for a month, about thirty days, the total would be $142.50. Multiply that by twelve months and it is $1,710 a YEAR. Compared to the $900 a year with the $2.50 meal, lunch prices ARE pretty darn expensive. Secondly, if enhanced foods and lunch system were implemented, some might say it would take a huge amount of money to actually start the project. However, if tax dollars are enough to pay for billion dollar roads, then it s enough to start a respectable lunch system. A portion of the tax dollars could be used instead of it all going to highway and road construction. Finally, the food may fit school standards, but it may not be such a good choice. • 36. How Athletes Are Overpaid How much of an importance on productivity do athletes have on today s society? Whether they have little to none, their contracts and endorsements tend to say otherwise. For example, David Beckham, a retired Los Angeles Galaxy soccer player, has received a forty eight million dollar career total, while a GS 13 level astronaut makes roughly one hundred thousand dollars a year. Some say that athletes earn their money just as we do, but that is not so apparent. Another example is how Kobe Bryant is making twenty three million dollars this year. According to his agent though, his on court abilities plus his talent justify his earnings, if this was the point in all jobs, then doctors and lawyers would be making millions while athletes are put on the backburner of society. This issue is so insanely horrible that bottom of the totem pole athletes are still making hundreds of thousands more than most PhD graduates receive. Same goes for injured players too. If an athlete is injured, then he is unable to play, yet he still receives his money, because once the contract is signed, what is done is done. Athletes were not always paid more than CEOs in today s market. In early stages of the American Football system, when it was not corrupted, almost all of the players had to have a normal day job on top of playing, because they played for fun, not for money. • 39. The Importance Of Popular Culture In The Classroom Popular culture brings in other forms of literacy Popular culture exists at home but not so much at school classrooms. Few of them incorporate these popular cultural resources into the curriculum and they are underrepresented compared with the school literacy (Marsh, 2013; Rets, 2016). Many teachers view the skills and knowledge gained from home, including popular culture, as having little value in the classroom context (Shegar Weninger, 2010, p.432). Reading and writing then becomes the dominated discourse in the classrooms, which is mainly focused on books and print texts (Marsh, 2013; Shegar Weninger, 2010). These skills are used to as the only way to assess children s literacy skills, such as standardized testing, which set limits to literacy learning and practices. Literacy learning is mostly skill driven, and teacher centered. Thus, a gap exists between home literacy and school literacy (Rets, 2016; Shegar Weninger, 2010). In addition, teachers also lack knowledge and awareness of children s popular culture, so they avoid incorporating it into the classroom (Shegar Weninger, 2010). However, as mentioned earlier, popular culture is an integral part of home literacy. It exists in children s conversation, play, drawing, and writing (Dunn, Niens, McMillan, 2014). Children experience a much more diverse literacy environment where they consume popular culture and multimodal texts on a daily basis. • 42. The Demand Theory And Theories Of Corruption Theories of corruption generally fall under two classifications i.e. demand theories and supply theories. Demand theory models of corruption include two approaches: resource allocation models and the principal agent relationship models (Jain, 1998). Resource allocation models evaluate the costs of the allocation of resources to bribe seeking activities. The model is based on the principle that bribe seeking is one aspect of any economic activity and thus part of a firm s resources are devoted to this pursuit (Krueger, 1974). In a competitive system, bribe seeking chances are produced either by agents over government policy or by underlying societal features (Mauro, 1995). Principal agent models of corruption postulate that the misuse of power by individuals /organisations, which is driven by self interest (Shleifer Vishniv, 1993). Now who would like to drive a car with improved gas mileage, superior torque, and a great, reliable engine? The obvious choice is the latter, a car with a diesel engine. Diesel and gasoline engines have been each other s competition since the 1930 s when the first diesel run car was produced. There is one main mechanical difference between these two engines; a gasoline engine ignites the gasoline with spark plugs, a lighter of sorts, and the diesel engine ignites the diesel by compressing it so much that it spontaneously combusts. Although there are a few other types of engines now, such as hybrid or electric, diesel is still superior to these. I have spent numerous hours doing extensive research on the different aspects of diesel engines and have come up with the conclusion that they are the superior motor. Through the course of this speech I will show you why going diesel is the better choice, and prompt you to make the switch to diesel if you have not done so already. The three main reasons that diesel is better compared to all other engines are: they last longer, they are more economical, and they are capable of running off of biodiesel.
