This document discusses how millennials use social media for social activism. It finds that most millennials frequently use Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter for socializing online. Popular hashtags from the past 5 years that were used for social causes are identified. The document presents results from analyzing the Facebook profiles and content shared by 861 users, finding that 17% changed their profile pictures in support of issues like the troops, religion, politics, and gay rights. It also surveys 111 millennials, finding that 50% have participated in social awareness events, with sharing links and donating money being common forms of participation. The conclusion is that Facebook is the primary platform millennials use to participate in social activism and that social media positively influences social activism
