Gender Differences in Trifles Essay
Trifles by Susan Glaspell is a play that is largely based on stereotypes. The most prevalent one is
the inferiority of women over men, though the play also explores the differences between
genders in general. First of all, Glaspell largely examines the repression of women in the 1900s.
Women were highly looked down upon by men, and were seen mostly as housekeepers and child
bearers, and were definitely not seen as intelligent people. The women in this play prove that the
stereotypes against them are completely wrong. The men in this story are sent out to discover the
details of a murder, while the women come along to gather some things for Mrs. Wright, who was
accused of killing her husband. Throughout the play, the men mock the... Show more content on

They don t realize that the little things do matter in solving a case like this. By worrying over
trifles (655), as Mr. Hale puts it, the women end up finding out a lot more about the murder than the
men do. The gender differences in the play are obvious and important to the story. The men in
this play exhibit some traditional stereotypes of men during the time period, such that they were
aggressive and self centered. The women seem to be more cautious, intuitive and sensitive.
These traits allow the women to come a lot closer to figuring out the murder than the men do. At
one point in the play the women find a quilt that Mrs. Wright had been working on. Mrs. Hale
asks Mrs. Peters, I wonder if she was goin to quilt it or just knot it? (658). Just then the sheriff
comes down the stairs and once again ridicules the women for worrying about such little things.
They wonder if she was going to quilt it or just knot it! (658), he exclaims. This is actually an
important piece of evidence in the story, as the ladies find out later. They realize that she was
extremely nervous about something while she was sewing, because she usually sews so nice and
even (658), but the piece she had been working on was all over the place (658). Then, while looking
around in the kitchen, and not even trying to find anything out about the murder, the

The Song Analysis Of The Song Hotel California
The song hotel California The song hotel California was released by an artist known as Eagles in
1976. The genre of the song is classic rock. It was written by Glenn Frey and Don Felder with help
of Don Henley. California is the setting of this song, even though it used to relate the entire
America. This song is all about the exaggeration of the American culture and some specific girls in
America. In addition, it touches the uneasy balance between commerce and art in America. Hotel
Californiais a metaphor for the LA high life and the cons and pros of living in the music industry.
Hotel Californiatells the story of a man driving along a super highway. On his way, the man gets
tired and decides to stop at a hotel which ends up being a pleasure palace with a sinister. While
listening, a casual listener would tend to think how lovely place California might be. The
listener might wish to crash California probably for a weekend, or order for a room service just
to enjoy the lovely place, Hoskyns, B. (2006). . But when someone listens this song keenly, he
or she might start wondering if the hotel is as good as Guantanamo or Palm Springs simply
because it says, you can check any time you like but you can never leave! As a matter of fact this
song has its dark side. The song Hotel California has got various lyrics. For instance, warm smell
of colitis which is direct reference to a plant known as colitis. Colitis is one the common desert
plants in America. In

Small Business Failure
According to Forbes.com, approximately 543,000 new businesses get started each month
(Nazar). That places the annual total of small businesses created at more than 6.5 million, in the
United States alone. A small business is defined as an enterprise that has less than five hundred
employees. There is a total of about 28 million small businesses in the U.S. These businesses are
responsible for the employment of roughly 50% of Americans. With an addition 6.5 million
businesses being created annually, you would assume that this number is climbing, however,
that is not the case. More employer businesses close per month than open up (Nazar). As
calculated by the Bureau of Labor Statistics in the United States, the failure rate is as follows;
after one year 21.2%, after two years 32.1%, after five years 51.2%, after ten years 66.6%, and
after twenty years 79.6% of all newly created small businesses fail ( Entrepreneurship ). What is
the reasoning being that? Why are so many small businesses struggling to keep their doors open?
There are three main reasons why businesses that are new and lesser in size struggle to survive and
often lead to the shutting down of these newfound entrepreneurships. These sources of failure
include poor decision making due to a lack of experience, financial issues, and competition from
other businesses. Lack of experience is something that every new businessman or businesswoman
has to deal with. No matter how much you have learned about how to run an

Single Shot Essay
A single shot. A single shot is all it takes to freeze time, and create a standstill that will last for
generations. A single shot can transport people to a point in time, to let them remember an occasion
that they may have otherwise forgotten; not because it is unimportant, but rather in the scheme of
life sometimes the small moments may go unnoticed. The brain continues to amaze people day by
day the fact that an object so easily created, and so easily destroyed. It can resurface every emotion
that was present in that moment: in the ice age of time. By looking at photographys emotional
impact, one can see the effect on people s perspective on life and the world; this is important
because it brings attention to the exclusivity of pictures, image use in news events, and the
personal memoirs that they create. A picture cannot be measured in words, money, or tangible
objects, it is a priceless piece of a person s history. Nothing in the world compares to a photograph,
an authentic view into the past that is only accessible through the lens of a camera. Drawings and
paintings are tweaked by an artist s bias on how they remember a moment, videos take away
interpretation, which can keep people from thinking, and cause them to only focus on watching.
Snapshots are the only representation that exist in the world that isolate a moment in time and let
the mind wander back to the time when it took place. Scott Momaday expresses that, Photography,
at its best, is authentic art, an

The Holocaust In The Shawl By Cynthia Ozick
The Shawl is a historical short story written by Cynthia Ozick and was published in 1989. Cynthia
Ozick set the story back in 1940 when Jews were oppressed politically and socially and eventually
confined throughout Eastern Europe. The author s intentions were to circulate the short story
around the horrific effects of the Holocaust. The main character in The Shawl is a Jewish woman
named Rosa, a victim of the Holocaust. Also, featured in the short storywere two Jewish girls
named Stella, Rosa s niece, and Magda, Rosa s daughter. In The Shawl , Ozick uses the characters
to show the harsh realities of the Holocaust. Cynthia Ozicks The Shawl exposes the traumas women

The camps would get full with women and children so the guards would kill them off either in
groups or one by one. They would starve the women and children to death by not giving them
any food or water until their bodies quit functioning. Just like when Rosa feared of losing Magda
due to lack of food. Disease also played a key factor in the toll number of deaths in the holocaust.
Women and children were brought to new places throughout eastern Europe and exposed to
many diseases that could kill a whole population. Also the unsanitary conditions of the camps
lead to many diseases such as: Typhoid, Dysentery, Pellagra, Marasmus, and lice. Cynthia Ozick
shares in the story about the lice exposure in the camp Rosa was in and how Magda was exposed
to it.(put quote about lice) .Of course in the camps they didn t get supplies to treat the diseases
therefore it would end up painfully killing them. By far the worst horrifying group killing s were
the gas chambers. Nazi guard s would pick out different Jews women or children and take them
into a dark chamber. They would make the Jews strip down and lock them in a room. At first
they would think they were getting a shower, but unfortunately it was toxic gases that would
suffocate them to death. Public executions brought fear into many Jews eyes of the thought of
being shot or hung. Surviving mothers that lost their children in the Holocaust will always keep
that traumatizing moment in their head. In Rosa s case she had to encounter the traumatizing
death of her daughter Magda. Rosa walked away for a short minute to retrieve Magda s blanket
and when she came back Magda was gone. When she found her she was being held by two
guards that threw her against an electrical fence. Rosa could not even go mourn over her baby s
dead body without the fear of being shot. Therefore the only thing she could do was shove the
shawl in her mouth to keep her from screaming.

The Democratic Party And The Republican Party
Every four years, the United States citizens elect a new president. The election is held in
November, but campaigning starts almost a whole year before the election month. Candidates
compete on a daily basis for the one position some people only dream of holding. With this
election on the horizon, voters need to take time to understand who the contenders are and what
their main objects will be once they arrive in office.
In politics today, two parties exist; the democrat party and the republican party. Out of the pair of
organizations, the democratic party remains as the world s oldest political party. It was first
founded in the year 1828 by Thomas Jefferson and James Madison. The Jeffersonian Republican or

They consisted of former Whig party supporters, abolitionists, and people who believed in the
modernizing of the country. Their basic belief followed the ways of conservatism. Conservatism
means that people believed in the rule of anti communism, and also believed that the American
traditions are the way the government should be ran along with Protestant values. Each party is
represented by an animal and also a color; red elephants for republicans and blue donkeys for
democrats.
When looking at the economy today, it is rather on a plateau. A few years ago, the economy was
heading in the wrong direction, but after current president Barack Obama was elected into
office, he managed to sign many bills into effect which in turn helped bring our economy back
up. Illegal immigration into the country has sky rocketed in the past ten years. The number of
illegal immigrants flowing into the country is approximately seven hundred thousand each year.
Personally, I believe that this number is entirely too high. The United States has a specific law
about illegal aliens and how they must have a piece of paper called a green card in order to live
in this country as an immigrant. These people of course are not considered citizens because they
were not born in America, which is primarily the reason behind the law. Along with these issues, I
also believe that the military and our veterans are treated with disrespect. Currently, we have been

Toussaint LOuverture Analysis
Toussaint L Ouverture essay
This eloquent by Wendell Phillips speech takes a journey back to Toussaint L Ouverture s time as
being the most powerful Haitian leader. The timing of this speech is impeccable because it is prior
to the Civil War, during which there was simmering debate over African Americanmilitary service.
The speech is primarily aimed at northerners but it can also be interpreted as a stern message or
rebuke to southerners. The key goal of the speech is to persuade northerners that African Americans
would make a valuable addition to the Union army. Phillips is a white abolitionist himself, which
establishes a sense of ethos. Throughout the speech Phillips asserts that despite history being
against Toussaint L Ouverture, he is a man of honor and is above all the rest. This is achieved by
outlining his little known accomplishments and humble beginnings.
Phillips argues that despite many odds, he routs the British, the French, and the Spaniards: from the
reluctant testimony of Britons, Frenchmen, Spaniards As a result of these numerous European
defeats, history is reluctantly written to acknowledge the losses suffered by Europe and the
triumph of the Haitians. This helps the audience understand that L Ouverture is not be
underestimated, which then enables a sense of reverence for L Ouverture. Phillips goes on to
argue that L Ouverture is self made and was victorious by virtue of his own skills: [Toussaint]

As years went by documents slowly started revealing Japan s true intentions for the island thus, the
Japanese Foreign Affairs Department has craftily tried to sanitize the Dokdo issue by claiming this
is a territorial land dispute (Dokdo Takeshima 13).
Though such events have occurred in the past. Today, one of Korea s and Japan s goals to claim
the Takeshima/Dokdo Island for their own is due to the abundant amount of natural resources that
can be found on and around the island. Though the island may not have enough fresh water for it
to be sustainable for a large nation to be residing on, the island does have a large amount of fish
living in the water around the island. It is already commonly known by many, that fishermen from
both nations are traveling towards the island in order to gain such marine resources. But because
of such large demand for fish located around the island, it caused conflicts between the two
countries. In 1999, a treaty was made that would help allow both countries to have fishing rights in
certain areas. Even though the two countries had the right to certain areas of water around the
island, the ownership of the seabed was not determined which led both Japan and Korea make
multiple attempts to claim the area for themselves in 2006 (Emmers 16), but no

Explain How To Promote Effective Communication
HOW TO COMMUNICATE EFFECTIVELY
Communicate is essential in health and social care settings because without a good communication
to patients, families, colleagues and management is very difficult to deliver good service of care.
A care worker needs to listen their patients needs and respond to them with professionalism.
Facial expression, eye contact, active listening, nonverbal communication, clarifying messages,
empathy, use of body language and appropriate language tone and pace are all results of effective
communication.

impairments, different language and patronising communication.
Jargon is when people express technical words throughout a conversation.
Physical barriers to communication is when people are trying to communicate and something are
stopping them to communicate well for example a place which there is a lot of noise could be a
barrier for them to have a conversation.
Some physical can be someone who have difficulties to understand because of limitation of vision,

long journey back to their homes after a desperate attempt to gain back land that had been stolen

knights, or American soldiers during the climax of WWII planning a full scale allied attack on the
German troops who had taken over nearly all of Europe in only three short years. These are the men
that the King of England and Lieutenant General George Patton were cursed with motivating.

This is exactly the feeling that the King is trying to provoke. Although Shakespeare does not
necessarily use worth in its traditional way of making people feel important, he sparks
competition within his men, which would likely be more effective at such a low point in their
war. Similarly, Lieutenant General George Patton needs to motivate his soldiers to fight an
equally if not more dangerous battle, but his men were already winning their war so he takes
the traditional route and makes them feel more important. He says to his men All real heroes are
not storybook combat fighters, either. Every single man in this Army plays a vital role. Don t
ever let up. Don t ever think that your job is unimportant. Every man has a job to do and he must
do it. Every man has a vital link in the great chain (Patton 38 40). There is one big difference in
the way Shakespeare and Patton used worth. The King s men were badly losing so their only
hope of survival was to compete against each other to stay alive, however since Patton s men were
winning all he had to do was reinforce what they were already worth and they would want to fight.
By making each job seem equally important Patton motivates each man to work just as hard as
everyone else. Not only does worth have this effect, but also status. Status, much like worth, makes
you feel good about yourself, by putting their soldiers above others LTG George Patton and the

Restrictive Food Intake Disorder And Anorexia Nervosa
Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder and Anorexia Nervosa are disorders classified as
eating and feeding disorders in the DSM V. An eating disorder is most commonly defined as any
of a range of psychological disorders characterized by abnormal or disturbed eating habits.
Unfortunately, eating and feeding disorders are seldom recognized as extremely prevalent or in
desperate need of help. According to the Association of Anorexia Nervosaand Associated Disorders,
eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of any mental illness. With that being said,
Anorexia Nervosa and Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder are two disorders that deserve
proper recognition and discussion. In order to properly recognize the prevalence and importance
of these disorders, it is vital to understand them. To understand these two disorders will require a
deeper look into the classifications, diagnosis, symptoms, and prevalence of each disorder. It will
also be important to discuss the differences in approaches to treating these two disorders.
Anorexia Nervosa and Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder, while similar, are two
completely different disorders; both deserving of proper understanding and recognition. Anorexia
Nervosa is perhaps one of, if not the most well known eating disorder. Anorexia Nervosa is the
condition of a lack or loss of appetiteand is also classified as an emotional disorder characterized by
an obsessive desire to lose weight by refusing to eat.

Malnutrition And Its Effects On Children
Introduction
In Nepal, malnutrition accounts for 60% of child deaths. More and more than 50,000 children die
each year from malnutrition. Side effects vary from child to adult. Malnutrition is most severe in
children, causing growth failure, irritability, muscle wasting, swelling of the abdomen and legs, and
skin becoming dry. There are two types of protein energy malnutrition (PEM) in children, Marasmus
and Kwashiorkor: .
Marasmus is linked to weight loss and muscle wasting. Fat beneath the skin disappears and the skin
appears pinched.
Kwashiorkor causes hair to change pigment, the face begins to swell and skin is dry and contains
stretch marks.

When proper nutritious foods are not available, the entire family suffers.
Key Risk Factors
There are many risk factors that are associated with malnutrition, but low income, social isolation
and a poor diet are among the top factors. When families do not have a high income or money is
not assessable, nutritious foods are unable to be obtained. Healthier foods might not necessarily be
more expensive, but with chronic diseases money gets cut from the food bill to afford medications.
Cost for housing or transportation also need to be taken into consideration. Social isolation in a
suburban area may play a key role in malnutrition. If nutritious foods are not consumed in an
everyday diet, a poor diet occurs. Proper nutrition is needed for growth and learning.
Economic and Social Consequences
The consequences are numerous when addressing malnutrition in children. Proper nutrition is key
in living an active and healthy life. When children are undernourished they have a weaker immune
system and are more susceptible to illnesses and infections. A long term lack of nutrition can cause
stunting, delayed development, cognitive and motor skills, pneumonia and diarrhea. According to
UNICEF, stunting in early life is linked to 0.7 grade loss in schooling, a 7 month delay in starting
school and between 22 45% reduction in lifetime earnings. When children are stunted,

Monopoly And Monopolistic Competitive Market
The study of Microeconomics tells us of the different market structures the economy is made of.
For the purpose of this paper, we will take an in depth look at three of these such market structures.
Monopoly and Monopolistic competitive market along with Oligopoly. We will look at how and
why these markets exist in conjunction with the advantages to the producer and the disadvantages
to the consumer. As we research Monopolyin detail, compare the monopolistic competitive market
and Oligopoly, we will also discuss the Gas market in relation to these types of markets. To begin
to understand monopolies, we have researched several things. Why do they exist? What do they
do, in response to the economy? Although, we don t see many monopolies now due to antitrust
laws to prevent monopolies from forming, there are natural monopolies. There are several reasons
why monopolies exist. These are known as barriers to entry. Scarce resources with one producer
can limit the number of other firms joining the market as competition. Increasing returns to scale
prevents smaller firms from entering an industry because as output rises average total cost falls.
This in turn enables these producers to grow and tolerate the monopoly. This is now where a
natural monopoly is formed. A single producer of an industry has a large cost advantage over other
smaller firms, if they existed in the industry. A natural monopoly includes local water, gas and
electricity providers. These

Thor as Portrayed in the Kenneth Branagh Movie
In this paper, I will talk about Thor as portrayed in the movie directed by Kenneth Branagh as he
may be depicted differently in other sources. Thor is the god of thunder and son of Odin, ruler of
Asgard in Norse mythology. A powerful God that was next in line for the throne of Asgard. Thor
had the power of thunder and was able to control its power with his hammer, which also allows him
to fly. Comparing Thorto Jesus, both are powerful beings. Asgard and Heaven are very similar as
it is where the Gods/God live. With great power both Thor and Jesus conquered things in their
own way. Jesus conquered sin, not by using his fists to fight Satan, but instead he was crucified

The Themes In Harrison Bergeron, By Kurt Vonnegut
Harrison Bergeron is a young adult short story by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr whose theme is a dystopian
story. It is told that in 2081, people are equal, to be prГ©cised must equal. People who are
beyond normal are forced to hide their ability in order to become equal. People who go against
the rules will be punished or even killed just like Harrison who declared himself as the Emperor
as he rebelled to the Handicapper General. In the story, it can be found that the General takes the
control of the society in order to make everything balance. Everything should be the same, no less,
no more and everyone should agree with that. The mainstream holds the voice. They are the one
who decide what is right and vice versa. This issue becomes a reason why Harrison... Show more

It has already stated that some people in Harrison Bergeron are ahead of normal. Harrison s father,
George, is punished by the General by putting a handicap radio in his ear so that the government
can easily distract him whenever he thinks about things too much. (...) the transmitter would
send out some sharp noise to keep people like George from taking unfair advantage of their
brains. (line 16 18, p.1). The beautiful ballerinas are wearing mask since they are not allowed to
show their attractive faces. Becoming different only leads people to the isolation. Moreover, in
an extreme context, they can be prisoned just like the General did to Harrison. Harrison is
described as an almost perfect child. He has a handsome face, athletic body, and has higher
intelligence than most people in the country. Realizing that Harrison will only become a threat to
the equality of society, the Handicapper General soon prisons him when he was only fourteen. In
addition to that, she also puts a lot of stuffs in Harrison s body in order to make him suffer a lot.
As it written in the short story, Harrison Bergeron ... is a genius and an athlete... should be regarded

steadiness. Therefore, they do, even worse, things and force the minority to make them as same as

Utilization Rates of Pedestrian Bridges in Kuala Lumpur
Introduction
Traffic congestion and air pollution are becoming growing problems in many cities in Malaysia. In
order to discourage automobile dependency, and increase pedestrian activities particularly for short
trips, the government has begun to promote non motorized travel options by improving pedestrian
facilities that promote an assured level of convenience, comfort, and security for potential users.
One of the facilities that have been provided by the government is the pedestrian bridge.
A pedestrian bridge or footbridge is a bridge constructed for pedestrians and sometimes for cyclists
and bikers as well. It reduces the conflicts of traffic flow between the pedestrians and the vehicles
by separating them. Hence, it helps in overcoming accidents and offers safety.
However, due to the added travel distance, most of the pedestrians normally avoid using these
bridges. This in turn, adds to traffic congestion and accidents that involve pedestrians.
For the purposes of this research evaluation, the site selections are around the city of Kuala
Lumpur.¬¬
Background to the Study
Pedestrian bridges may offer safety and protection to the users but pedestrians often avoid using
these facilities. According to the survey that has been conducted by H. Rizati, Siti Zaharah Ishak,
Intan Rohani Endut (2013), this is due to several factors. They are the added travel distance, the
location of the facility, and the vehicle volume. Pedestrians prefer to utilize pedestrian

What Was The Positive Impact Of The Industrial Revolution
The Industrial Revolution is seen as one of the most evolutionary and impactful turning points in
our globe s history. Countries such as Britain, France, Germany, and the United States all took part
in the revolution, and many more countries took part along the way. This lengthy event had both
positive and negative factors that varied from the invention of Ford s Model T, to the output of
pollution due to increased industry. Between 1700 and 1850, the population skyrocketed and many
rural workers migrated to the city due to the availability of jobs. The first industry to come
together were the textile factories. It produced clothing and is now looked back at as the beginning
of something new. The output of products went from being a domestic... Show more content on

One invention was the telegraph, invented by Samuel Morse in the 1830s. The telegraph used
electricity in order to send signals over long wires. Morse then developed a language named after
himself called Morse Code. Once the code was sent over the wires, the person receiving it could
then translate it into letters or words. This new equipment invented during the revolution was very
impactful towards future events. It allowed long ranged communications during World War One
and Two. It was used extensively during these events mainly because communication was key in
the battlefield. The telegraph created a completely new technique of communication that allowed
a great change in many societies worldwide. A second invention was the lightbulb, developed by
Thomas Edison in the late 1800s. This electric powered, glass container was useful then, is useful
now, and will be used in the future to come. Towards the end of the Industrial Revolution, when
the bulb was invented, factories began to use them as a replacement for the gas lamps. The
lightbulb is safer, brighter, and more energy efficient. It brought workers a safer environment
because it allowed for a more visible workspace, resulting in less casualties. The lightbulb was an
innovative invention that positively impacted many workers of the past and lit up the globe s

The World And Empires By Anthony Pagden
Peoples and Empires Throughout history there have been a multitude of different empires to rise
up and conquer land, along with the people inhabiting that land. More often than not, these empires
fell. Whether the empire was quickly abolished, or it maintained power for decades, most of them
were over thrown. Anthony Pagden, who at the time of publication was a history professor at John
Hopkins, wrote the book Peoples and Empires in 2003 to explain the history of the once Great
European Empires . These empires included, but are not limited to, the French, the Spanish, the
British, and the Roman Empire. One major idea of the content focuses on how these particular
empires justified their conquering, not only to themselves, but also to their followers and the
people who rebelled against them. Conquerors would travel to the ends of the earth in order to
obtain more land which in turn is more power. However, in order to do this they had to justify
their actions to the individuals occupying that land. In doing so, they fabricated what they
assumed were acceptable reasons as to why an empire was more luxurious, or in other words
better , than the systems they had in place before. The most common ideology between all of the
empires was the simple idea of being civilized versus being barbaric or savage . Pagden
thoroughly explains how the empires used this ideology and coupled it with small force to justify
their actions and the overall concept of an empire: They

Is Lady Macbeth To Blame
Have you ever been tempted to do something that you knew was morally wrong. This happens a
lot in life, but some cases are more serious than others. Sometimes, the people who a person loves
love and trust the most could tempt a person to do terrible things. Macbeth , written by William
Shakespeare, is a play that recognizes that this is possible, even to people who were a good
hearted person, in this case Macbeth. The character who is the most responsible for the downfall of
Macbeth is Lady Macbeth because she constantly taunted and tempted Macbeth to murder King
Duncan. Many people believe that Lady Macbeth was tricked by the Devil to tempt Macbeth to
murder Duncan, and they then accuse of the witches of being the cause but that is not the case.

When Macbeth was trying to stop things from going too far Lady Macbeth decides to taunt him.
But screw your courage to the sticking place [a]nd we ll not fail (1.7.70 71). During this
discussion Lady Macbeth basically calls Macbeth a coward and that if he follows her plan they
will succeed. That was a major reason for Macbeth actually deciding to murder action. Also Lady
Macbeth tries to make him seem like a traitor when he backs out of the plan, which is the starting
point for Macbeth s downfall. William Shakespeare tries to show readers that even though Macbeth
was evil as king, he is not entirely at fault for becoming filled with greed and anger. Even though
people control their own actions they can be tempted to do wrong things due to peer pressure.
Although some can just blame Macbeth, we need to remind ourselves that Macbeth wasn t going to
kill Duncan, until Lady Macbeth persuaded him to. Even if it was mostly Macbeth s fault for not
controlling his actions, Macbeth reminds us that when more than one person are involved with an
action of evil, there is never just one person to

The Civil War And The United States Essay
The civil war that continues to rage in Syria for the past five years has been one of both great
loss and great interest. Several key actors from around the world such as the United States,
Russia, Turkey, the Syrian government, Syrian rebels or National Coalition, Iran, and Saudi
Arabia all have a great amount at stake based on the outcome of the war. Thus, the difficulties of
negotiating peace are almost impossible to overcome, which causes great powers like that of
the U.S. and Russia to use their resources in order to obtain their desired outcome. In this essay, I
will be outlining the key actors, which side they are on, and what is at stake for each of them
within this civil war, as well as examining how this turmoil has [created] a haven for the Islamic
State to move in. Now let us identify the key actors who have a stake in this civil war. Initially,
one should look at the country of origin in which a civil war plays out, in this instance, Syria. Syria
was thrown into a state of turmoil after the government reportedly arrested and tortured teenagers
who had painted revolutionary slogans on their school s walls. This caused massive rallies to take
place, in which government soldiers fired upon protestors, killing several. As a result, the
protestors took up arms of their own and proceeded to fight back against the governmental forces
in an attempt to end President Assad s regime. This then drew up the battle lines; on one side was

Analysis Of The Movie Empire Falls By Richard Russo
Empire Falls, written by Richard Russo, encompasses several concepts of the American identity
and what it means to be an American. Russo focuses on the small town life in New England,
illustrating a compelling story while narrating the lives of several different characters. While
these characters seem to be different at the surface, they actually share several similarities. The
characters of Empire Falls share the same outlook of life. Despite the American freedom they
have, they will typically follow the path of life that they were born into and never question why.
Overall, Empire Falls is a town of acceptance, accepting ones place in society as it is. The
citizens of Empire Falls do not question their path of life and simply accept the basic truth of their
lives. This speaks volumes for our country. Are we a country that will simply accept our set path of
life? Or rather fight for what we believe in, despite the negative connotations it may bring. Through
extensive analysis of the protagonist Miles Roby and other important characters in the novel, we
will begin to what it means to be an American through a different perspective.
Miles Roby works at the restaurant, Empire Grill, spending his days flipping burgers and counting
change. He is the epitome of the Cognitive Dissonance Theory. Cognitive Dissonance is used to
describe people who are having a conflict between their personal beliefs and own reality. For
example, Miles is in a dead end job in a dying town. He knows

The Next Generation Analysis
This week we jumped into the Renaissance. The ground work for understanding the time period
was set with the initial discussion about the influences of humanism, the Reformation, and the
relative peace of the time. All of these aspects aided in allowing musicians and musical traditions
mingle. In the early 15th century there is a rise to prominence by the English, but also this mixing.
The English had a liking for using thirds and sixths in their music, something that came to be
called contenance angloise . This mixed in with the French preference for rhythmic complexity
and forms, and the Italian florid melodic writing, to create this new international style. The
composers associated with this time period are John Dunstable, Gilles Binchois, and Guillaume
Du Fay. In the next generation (1450 1490), there is a greater use of imitation, wider ranges,
more equality among the voices, minor prolations, and longer phrases. There was only one
composer who we studied, Antoine Busnoys. In the next, next generation (1490 ), there is a
breakaway from formes fixe , the structure of works being based on the text, and greater equality
of voices to the point where each phrase is composed with all the voices in mind. The composers
associated with this time period are Jacob Obrecht, Heinrich Isaac, and Josquin de Prez.... Show

Adam Smith And Andrew Carnegie And The Gospel Of Wealth
The continuous disparity of wealth and income can cause constant economic problems within a
society. Although it is not apparent all the time, there are few benefits of discrepancy itself such as
individual wealth, capital, and labor. Both Smith and Carnegie have distinct beliefs about wealth
that differentiate from one another, yet are similar in certain ways. Adam Smith confined all his
ideas about the common man in his Wealth of Nations . Whereas, in the Gospel of Wealth, Andrew
Carnegie had distinct beliefs about the effects of capitalism. All in all, economic conditions of the

Smith was very much concerned with the welfare of the community and created The Wealth of
Nations, to put forth most of his economic ideas, that are still considered today. The message
Adam Smith alleged was that since people satisfied their own self needs, then the economy
would work affectively. For example, When people look to their own self interests, they
contribute unintentionally, by means of an invisible hand , to the welfare of society (Smith 281).
Smith talks about the invisible hand as a guiding tool towards supply and demand within a
society and argued the division of labor generates wealth not just for that one person but for the
nation as a whole. By selling products that are in demand, for the purpose of earning money
people are engaging in within their enterprises. Additionally, the more demands, the more people
want to invest, the more people need to work, the harder it is to find a job when the economy is at
a low. Today, the invisible hand theory is often guides free markets and capitalism in the direction
of efficiency, through supply and demand and competition for scarce resources.
Another significant contribution to a government is Capitol because profit determines wealth
which can assist an economy to grow bigger and better. Andrew Carnegie acknowledged the
unequal effects of the laissez faire system of capitalism through The Gospel of Wealth. Carnegie

Cecilius Calvert in the Maryland colony and it has spread since then throughout the nation.
Research was done to learn how the Catholic religion in the Maryland colony first developed and
how it contributed into the making of the colony. This research will explain how the influence of

Maryland to give help and advice and celebrate the mass or any type of prayer.
The main goal of establishing this colony, was to expand the Catholic faith and increase the

Technology During The Twentieth Century
Technology had a great influence on literature in the early twentieth century. This was the era of
Women s Suffrage Movement and the Great War both of which had an impact on literature. The
Women s Movement challenged long held ideals that men were superior in both mind and body, but
more importantly, activists used technology to advance their cause. Five thousand women marched
on Washington in order to gain media attention and support, and this coverage eventually led to the
ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment (Belasco and Johnson 489). World War I saw the use of
modern warfare including chemical weapons and airplanes, tanks, and the machine gun. This
technology made war more horrible and more complex than previous wars. This was also the time
of jazz music, the flapper, and full length talking movies (498 499). Moreover, mass market
magazines and Book of the Month clubs along with the increase students pursuing higher education
meant a higher demand for novels (500, 502). All of these advances created the age of modernism.
The modernism movement embraced painting, music, literature, and challenged previous styles and
traditions. Influenced by changes brought on by the technology and the destruction of the Great
War, the modernist writer questioned authority and established ideas. They broke away from the
way things were normally done. They examined closely the inner self along with the greater whole

Creation is when the process of bringing something into existence using ideas and designs, it
involves the actual making of the product. If the production process had no actual creation there

Implementation is including new ideas and designs into projects and existing designs to help

implementation to try and achieve targets and goals when something is failing for example, a

A Brief Note On Guinea Worm Eradication ( Group 7 )
Postal 2: Guinea Worm Eradication (Group 7):
The condition for the commissioning setting was a supposed guinea worm outbreak that has
been reported in three Local Government Areas of Akoko town in Ondo State Nigeria by the
State s Ministry of Health among people aged 6 46 years. Their rationale was based on high
density of cases in Ise, Auga Okemole and Iboropa areas of Akoko local government areas, after
WHO had declared Nigeria free of the infection. Based on continuous surveillance and disease
notification, it seems guinea worm is a WHO s notifiable infectious disease, and Nigeria is a party
to it. According to WHO 2000), there is a need for immediate action whenever any WHO notifiable
diseases is spotted. Hence a stakeholders meeting was held with the locals, government officials and
community health workers for immediate Health Needs Assessment. The population profiling data
was from national surveys and hospital records.
Analysis of data was done, the case was prioritized, procurement done, and prompt intervention
followed with full participation of all necessary stakeholders. Effective Monitoring and Evaluation
would be carried out quarterly after implementation: this monitoring and evaluation will be done by
the commissioners themselves.
Strong Points:
Looking at the given scenario, a notifiable disease requires an immediate emergency response,
since there was a good rationale backing their action. The evidence was also strong as the report

Past Offender Often past offenders are neglected and deemed as vulnerable needless risk, leaving a
negative effect on employers willingness to hire (ALBRIGHT DENQ, 1996) when being compared
to law abiding citizens with no history of breaking the law. It s assumed, previous offenders who no
longer yearn the desire to participate in criminal behavior can be a great asset to troubled teens. Past
offenders offer the unique personal experience of offering mentoring skills which reach beyond one
s educational knowledge and experience. Past offenders will be relied upon to develop customized
plans of execution to teach mentees first hand how to avoid systematic hurdles when attempting to
transition from being a delinquent to working towards obtaining goals and taking advantage of
opportunities through effective planning and decision making. In juvenile justice, offenders may
have alternative desires outside of traditional schooling. Often ex offenders are interested in seeking

antagonists in the short stories get their fair end of being in control and in power. Corrupt power
is represented through a military captain and a Mayor of a town. On the other hand, a barber and a

stories.

first of these I gave the name of the favored Savior, on whose guide depending I had achieved this
and additionally alternate islands. Yet, the Indians call it Guanahany. I likewise called every one of
the others by another name. For I requested one island to be called Santa Maria of the Conception,
another Fernandina, another Isabella, another Juana, thus on with the rest.
When we had landed at that island which I have a few seconds ago said was called Juana, I
continued along its coast towards the west for some separation; I discovered it so expansive and
without discernible end, that I trusted it to be not an island, but rather the mainland nation of
Cathay; seeing, in any case, no towns or urban areas arranged on the ocean coast, however just a
few towns and inconsiderate ranches, with whose tenants I was not able chat, in light of the fact
that when they saw us they took off. I continued more distant, believing that I would find some city
or vast homes. Finally, seeing that we

Re: Cost of Capital for Telus Corporation.
Date: February 13, 2014
Executive Summary
Barb Williams and Rick Thomas, while attending an executive education course at a well known
business school, came across a case which involved calculating the cost of capital for Telus
Corporation (Telus). Basic data such as the Balance Sheet, Income Statement, Data on Telus
Common Stock, Market Index, and the Average Annual Returns in North American Capital
Markets were provided. In order to calculate Telus cost of capital we need to calculate the
company s Cost of Equity, Cost of Debt, and TaxRate along with their weighted cost and then apply
these to the Weighted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because we have not been notified of any substantial changes within the company s financing
agenda or asset acquisition goals, we find it safe to assume that Telus will continue to use the
same financing weights in the near future. Another thing that we believe Telus should consider is
avoiding the issuance of Preferred Stock in the future. Although this type of stock is less
restricted, it can considerably affect the company s overall cost of capital based on a higher after
tax cost and given that this type of stock is not tax

Improving The Best Of Existing State Standards
Structuring on the best of existing state standards, the Common Core State Standards provide a
clear and reliable learning goal to help prepare students for college, career, and life. The standards
clearly demonstrate what students are expected to learn at each grade level, so that every parent
and teacher can understand and support their learning. From Kindergarten through 8th grade, grade
by grade standards exist in English language arts/literacy and mathematics. From 9th through 12th
grade, the standards are grouped into grade sets of 9th through 10th grade standards and 11th
through 12th grade standards. Moreover, the CCSS stress the importance of using primary texts in
the classroom to build literacy, along with many other things. While the standards set grade
specific goals, they do not define how the standards should be taught or which materials should be
used to support students. States and districts know that there will need to be a range of supports in
place to guarantee that all students, including those with special needs and English language
learners, can master the standards. It is up to the states to outline the full range of supports
appropriate for these students. Since the release of the final standards in 2010, a two party mix of
organizations representing parents, teachers, business leaders, and other key voices have strongly
supported the Common Core State Standards. The National Governors Association Center for Best
Practices (NGA Center) and the

Memphis Tennessee Case Study
Memphis, Tennessee is listed in the top five most violent cities in America. Memphis homicide
rate is close to two hundred and we have one more month to go before the end of 2016.
Description of Interest
Something has to change. This is what I have been telling myself over and over again. In the
city of Memphis, we have mothers killing their children. We have youths beating adults with
crow bars while robbing them of their money. We have other youths being convicted of killing a
mother who was a pizza delivery worker who refused to give up her money. We have poverty areas
that need daycare resources as well as tools to help single mothers. We also have too many
students being expelled from school due to various reasons. I decided ... Show more content on

An educational journey consists of effective study habits which will require researching various
sources, managing personal/family life, and balancing work and school. Research is very
important. It will either hurt you or help you, depending on your research skills and time
management skills. Research helps link one s ideas to true and tested studies that can help prove a
stance on a particular subject matter. When one is able to provide information backed up by
empirical studies, one s information can begin to flourish. For example, think about the various
magazines that are sold nationwide. The National Enquirer is seen to be a false, untrue magazine
that provides information about subject matters that are not even true. Even though, the National
Enquirer is a great attention getter, there are surmountable people who know the stories printed
inside are not believable. In regards to research, students should seek out reputable sources that
can enhance their writing skills which in turn will help to write a better paper. Research provides
valuable knowledge for the student. The student may already know the information but the
research will give added seasoning to that knowledge. Just like cooking, one knows how to cook a
turkey but, it s the seasonings that will bring the turkey to life. Those seasoning ideas may come
from various individuals.

Persuasive Essay On Religion
You might as well cut off your entire personality under the roof of religious parents, or at least
learn to pretend you are someone else in front of them. There is no having your own beliefs,
being gay or being with someone of another race. You learn to find excuses on why you haven t
found yourself a white, Christian man like I don t know mom, I guess God hasn t provided him
for me yet, when really the only guyyou re looking for is in fact a woman. If you came out of the
closet, of course, you can bet God will strike you down with a bolt of lightning and your family
will shun you. You also have to be cautious of when you say you don t believe in God, because
really you do, you ve just turned away from him. You get to go to church a little more because
your family thinks that Satan has gotten a hold on you. What you need to do is wipe away any
free will you think you have and get on your knees and pray to God for redemption. Get use to
the white walls around you because when they find out you have a happy relationship with a
black boy you will never see another room beside your own. I like to call this one House Arrest.
That s where I m at now. No more phone, no more going outside, no more even walking to the bus
stop without my mom by my side. I d like to state for the record that I do not enjoy lying to my
parents. I wish that I could be open and honest with them, but their minds are set on two things; they
must be white and they must be Christian.
Things were

Elizabethan Er The Era Of Beauty And Fascination
Elizabethan Era Clothing
The Elizabethan era was an extraordinarily fashion era for both man and women, a time when
everything was changing from the fifteenth century simple dress to extravagant and dramatic styles
which we call Elizabethan fashion. At that time, new styles, modern yet unique fabrics, charm
colors, sharp design and glamor silhouette were evolving. Every layer and piece of Elizabethan
outfit was equally important, from the fancy dress to the smallest details. Definitely, the
Elizabethan era was the time of beauty and fascination. In fact, during the Elizabethan time clothing
reflects mood, values and the person s statue in the society. So fashion at that time was the primary
indicator of one s social statue and the differences in styling between upper class and lower class
were noticeable and very easy distinguished, in terms of fabric, colors, and design.
During the Elizabethan time period, in order to understand a person s life style including clothes,
we must first understand how the society at that time worked. The Elizabethan society was divided
into three classes, first upper class including nobles and royalty, second middle class or hard
working class, and finally lower class or peasants. The availability of fabrics, colors, and designs
were extremely limited for lower class compared to upper class who has unlimited access to a
variety of expansive fabrics and colors. These divisions in clothing were stated in the Sumptuary
Laws or also known as

Each individual has the right to elect their personal choice of representative. Democracy written
by Leonard Cohen convey democracy by narrating that the heart has to open in a fundamental
way: Democracy is coming to the U.S.A. (Source 3) This line from the poem reveals that you
have to let out what you feel is moral and because of this democracy is coming to the U.S.A.
This particularized that the use of what you feel is right leads you to democracy. The Magna

Medical Mistakes In Health Care
Imagine a situation when you have a health problem and need a specialist for medical help but
instead, they become the cause of the biggest health problem in your life. A question, will you ever
trust the health organization again? Probably no. Healthcare facilities should create a sense of
trustworthiness and safety. Patients trust their doctors to always make the right decisions instead of
them without a second thought. We must remember that doctors are humans and tend to make
mistakes. Usually, patients don t ask questions and everything that doctors will say they accept as
the only truth. But Medical mistakes are a really serious issue in the USA. Although not always life
threatening but can cause very serious healthconditions. Medical mistakes are the third largest killer
of Americans right after heart disease and cancer and these mistakes result in about 400,000 deaths
and cost $1 trillion annually in the United States (Zikhani, 2016).
According to the Institute of Medicine Report (IOM), a medical mistake is the failure of a planned
action to be completed as intended or the use of a wrong plan to achieve an aim. ... Show more

Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind By Michel Gondry
Imagine living in a world where erasing memories of the past was just a night s sleep and a click
of a button; would you take advantage of this opportunity? In the film, Eternal Sunshine of the
Spotless Mind, directed by Michel Gondry, Joel Barish and Clementine Kruczynski did. The two
ended their relationship on a bad note which lead Clem to impulsively arrange an operation to zap
that memory away. Joel did the same, but instead of letting go of Clem during his operation, he fell
back in love with her; with this realization, his character developed throughout the film which
reflects the colorand mood of each scene and point of his life; Joel in the beginning, Clementine,
Joel and Clementine together, and when Joel and Clementine broke up. Off the bat Joel s
bedroom set the mood to what kind of character he was. Much can be taken from the light that
shined into the bedroom, which felt cold and gloomy; it wasn t a bright, morning sunshine; it
was gray. This soft and dreary lighting was purposely muted to push the mood of depression and
loneliness by reflecting Joel s mood as he starts his day ( Technical Critique of Eternal... ).
Everything inside the room felt cold as well; most of the furniture in his room was shades of
neutral colors of blacks, browns, grays, whites and muted blues. Even Joel s choice of clothing
from his navy blue pajamas to his ebony, black coat reflected the colors of his room and mood.
Joel s depression is very transparent in the beginning scene.

  • 3. Gender Differences in Trifles Essay Trifles by Susan Glaspell is a play that is largely based on stereotypes. The most prevalent one is the inferiority of women over men, though the play also explores the differences between genders in general. First of all, Glaspell largely examines the repression of women in the 1900s. Women were highly looked down upon by men, and were seen mostly as housekeepers and child bearers, and were definitely not seen as intelligent people. The women in this play prove that the stereotypes against them are completely wrong. The men in this story are sent out to discover the details of a murder, while the women come along to gather some things for Mrs. Wright, who was accused of killing her husband. Throughout the play, the men mock the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They don t realize that the little things do matter in solving a case like this. By worrying over trifles (655), as Mr. Hale puts it, the women end up finding out a lot more about the murder than the men do. The gender differences in the play are obvious and important to the story. The men in this play exhibit some traditional stereotypes of men during the time period, such that they were aggressive and self centered. The women seem to be more cautious, intuitive and sensitive. These traits allow the women to come a lot closer to figuring out the murder than the men do. At one point in the play the women find a quilt that Mrs. Wright had been working on. Mrs. Hale asks Mrs. Peters, I wonder if she was goin to quilt it or just knot it? (658). Just then the sheriff comes down the stairs and once again ridicules the women for worrying about such little things. They wonder if she was going to quilt it or just knot it! (658), he exclaims. This is actually an important piece of evidence in the story, as the ladies find out later. They realize that she was extremely nervous about something while she was sewing, because she usually sews so nice and even (658), but the piece she had been working on was all over the place (658). Then, while looking around in the kitchen, and not even trying to find anything out about the murder, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Song Analysis Of The Song Hotel California The song hotel California The song hotel California was released by an artist known as Eagles in 1976. The genre of the song is classic rock. It was written by Glenn Frey and Don Felder with help of Don Henley. California is the setting of this song, even though it used to relate the entire America. This song is all about the exaggeration of the American culture and some specific girls in America. In addition, it touches the uneasy balance between commerce and art in America. Hotel Californiais a metaphor for the LA high life and the cons and pros of living in the music industry. Hotel Californiatells the story of a man driving along a super highway. On his way, the man gets tired and decides to stop at a hotel which ends up being a pleasure palace with a sinister. While listening, a casual listener would tend to think how lovely place California might be. The listener might wish to crash California probably for a weekend, or order for a room service just to enjoy the lovely place, Hoskyns, B. (2006). . But when someone listens this song keenly, he or she might start wondering if the hotel is as good as Guantanamo or Palm Springs simply because it says, you can check any time you like but you can never leave! That places the annual total of small businesses created at more than 6.5 million, in the United States alone. A small business is defined as an enterprise that has less than five hundred employees. There is a total of about 28 million small businesses in the U.S. These businesses are responsible for the employment of roughly 50% of Americans. With an addition 6.5 million businesses being created annually, you would assume that this number is climbing, however, that is not the case. More employer businesses close per month than open up (Nazar). As calculated by the Bureau of Labor Statistics in the United States, the failure rate is as follows; after one year 21.2%, after two years 32.1%, after five years 51.2%, after ten years 66.6%, and after twenty years 79.6% of all newly created small businesses fail ( Entrepreneurship ). What is the reasoning being that? Why are so many small businesses struggling to keep their doors open? There are three main reasons why businesses that are new and lesser in size struggle to survive and often lead to the shutting down of these newfound entrepreneurships. These sources of failure include poor decision making due to a lack of experience, financial issues, and competition from other businesses. A single shot can transport people to a point in time, to let them remember an occasion that they may have otherwise forgotten; not because it is unimportant, but rather in the scheme of life sometimes the small moments may go unnoticed. The brain continues to amaze people day by day the fact that an object so easily created, and so easily destroyed. It can resurface every emotion that was present in that moment: in the ice age of time. By looking at photographys emotional impact, one can see the effect on people s perspective on life and the world; this is important because it brings attention to the exclusivity of pictures, image use in news events, and the personal memoirs that they create. A picture cannot be measured in words, money, or tangible objects, it is a priceless piece of a person s history. Nothing in the world compares to a photograph, an authentic view into the past that is only accessible through the lens of a camera. Drawings and paintings are tweaked by an artist s bias on how they remember a moment, videos take away interpretation, which can keep people from thinking, and cause them to only focus on watching. Disease also played a key factor in the toll number of deaths in the holocaust. Women and children were brought to new places throughout eastern Europe and exposed to many diseases that could kill a whole population. Also the unsanitary conditions of the camps lead to many diseases such as: Typhoid, Dysentery, Pellagra, Marasmus, and lice. Cynthia Ozick shares in the story about the lice exposure in the camp Rosa was in and how Magda was exposed to it.(put quote about lice) .Of course in the camps they didn t get supplies to treat the diseases therefore it would end up painfully killing them. By far the worst horrifying group killing s were the gas chambers. Nazi guard s would pick out different Jews women or children and take them into a dark chamber. They would make the Jews strip down and lock them in a room. At first they would think they were getting a shower, but unfortunately it was toxic gases that would suffocate them to death. Public executions brought fear into many Jews eyes of the thought of being shot or hung. Surviving mothers that lost their children in the Holocaust will always keep that traumatizing moment in their head. In Rosa s case she had to encounter the traumatizing death of her daughter Magda. Rosa walked away for a short minute to retrieve Magda s blanket and when she came back Magda was gone. When she found her she was being held by two guards that threw her against an electrical fence. Rosa could not even go mourn over her baby s dead body without the fear of being shot. Therefore the only thing she could do was shove the shawl in her mouth to keep her from screaming. ... Illegal immigration into the country has sky rocketed in the past ten years. The number of illegal immigrants flowing into the country is approximately seven hundred thousand each year. The United States has a specific law about illegal aliens and how they must have a piece of paper called a green card in order to live in this country as an immigrant. • 11. Toussaint LOuverture Analysis Toussaint L Ouverture essay This eloquent by Wendell Phillips speech takes a journey back to Toussaint L Ouverture s time as being the most powerful Haitian leader. The timing of this speech is impeccable because it is prior to the Civil War, during which there was simmering debate over African Americanmilitary service. The speech is primarily aimed at northerners but it can also be interpreted as a stern message or rebuke to southerners. The key goal of the speech is to persuade northerners that African Americans would make a valuable addition to the Union army. Phillips is a white abolitionist himself, which establishes a sense of ethos. Throughout the speech Phillips asserts that despite history being against Toussaint L Ouverture, he is a man of honor and is above all the rest. This is achieved by outlining his little known accomplishments and humble beginnings. Phillips argues that despite many odds, he routs the British, the French, and the Spaniards: from the reluctant testimony of Britons, Frenchmen, Spaniards As a result of these numerous European defeats, history is reluctantly written to acknowledge the losses suffered by Europe and the triumph of the Haitians. This helps the audience understand that L Ouverture is not be underestimated, which then enables a sense of reverence for L Ouverture. Phillips goes on to argue that L Ouverture is self made and was victorious by virtue of his own skills: [Toussaint] forged a thunderbolt and hurled it This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is already commonly known by many, that fishermen from both nations are traveling towards the island in order to gain such marine resources. But because of such large demand for fish located around the island, it caused conflicts between the two countries. In 1999, a treaty was made that would help allow both countries to have fishing rights in certain areas. We will look at how and why these markets exist in conjunction with the advantages to the producer and the disadvantages to the consumer. As we research Monopolyin detail, compare the monopolistic competitive market and Oligopoly, we will also discuss the Gas market in relation to these types of markets. To begin to understand monopolies, we have researched several things. Why do they exist? What do they do, in response to the economy? Although, we don t see many monopolies now due to antitrust laws to prevent monopolies from forming, there are natural monopolies. There are several reasons why monopolies exist. These are known as barriers to entry. Scarce resources with one producer can limit the number of other firms joining the market as competition. Increasing returns to scale prevents smaller firms from entering an industry because as output rises average total cost falls. This in turn enables these producers to grow and tolerate the monopoly. This is now where a natural monopoly is formed. A single producer of an industry has a large cost advantage over other smaller firms, if they existed in the industry. • 22. Utilization Rates of Pedestrian Bridges in Kuala Lumpur Introduction Traffic congestion and air pollution are becoming growing problems in many cities in Malaysia. In order to discourage automobile dependency, and increase pedestrian activities particularly for short trips, the government has begun to promote non motorized travel options by improving pedestrian facilities that promote an assured level of convenience, comfort, and security for potential users. One of the facilities that have been provided by the government is the pedestrian bridge. A pedestrian bridge or footbridge is a bridge constructed for pedestrians and sometimes for cyclists and bikers as well. It reduces the conflicts of traffic flow between the pedestrians and the vehicles by separating them. Hence, it helps in overcoming accidents and offers safety. However, due to the added travel distance, most of the pedestrians normally avoid using these bridges. This in turn, adds to traffic congestion and accidents that involve pedestrians. For the purposes of this research evaluation, the site selections are around the city of Kuala Lumpur.¬¬ Background to the Study Pedestrian bridges may offer safety and protection to the users but pedestrians often avoid using these facilities. According to the survey that has been conducted by H. Rizati, Siti Zaharah Ishak, Intan Rohani Endut (2013), this is due to several factors. • 25. The World And Empires By Anthony Pagden Peoples and Empires Throughout history there have been a multitude of different empires to rise up and conquer land, along with the people inhabiting that land. More often than not, these empires fell. Whether the empire was quickly abolished, or it maintained power for decades, most of them were over thrown. Anthony Pagden, who at the time of publication was a history professor at John Hopkins, wrote the book Peoples and Empires in 2003 to explain the history of the once Great European Empires . These empires included, but are not limited to, the French, the Spanish, the British, and the Roman Empire. One major idea of the content focuses on how these particular empires justified their conquering, not only to themselves, but also to their followers and the people who rebelled against them. Conquerors would travel to the ends of the earth in order to obtain more land which in turn is more power. However, in order to do this they had to justify their actions to the individuals occupying that land. In doing so, they fabricated what they assumed were acceptable reasons as to why an empire was more luxurious, or in other words better , than the systems they had in place before. The most common ideology between all of the empires was the simple idea of being civilized versus being barbaric or savage . Pagden thoroughly explains how the empires used this ideology and coupled it with small force to justify their actions and the overall concept of an empire: They ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This caused massive rallies to take place, in which government soldiers fired upon protestors, killing several. Russo focuses on the small town life in New England, illustrating a compelling story while narrating the lives of several different characters. While these characters seem to be different at the surface, they actually share several similarities. The characters of Empire Falls share the same outlook of life. Despite the American freedom they have, they will typically follow the path of life that they were born into and never question why. Overall, Empire Falls is a town of acceptance, accepting ones place in society as it is. The citizens of Empire Falls do not question their path of life and simply accept the basic truth of their lives. This speaks volumes for our country. Are we a country that will simply accept our set path of life? Or rather fight for what we believe in, despite the negative connotations it may bring. Through extensive analysis of the protagonist Miles Roby and other important characters in the novel, we will begin to what it means to be an American through a different perspective. Miles Roby works at the restaurant, Empire Grill, spending his days flipping burgers and counting change. He is the epitome of the Cognitive Dissonance Theory. Smith was very much concerned with the welfare of the community and created The Wealth of Nations, to put forth most of his economic ideas, that are still considered today. For example, When people look to their own self interests, they contribute unintentionally, by means of an invisible hand , to the welfare of society (Smith 281). Smith talks about the invisible hand as a guiding tool towards supply and demand within a society and argued the division of labor generates wealth not just for that one person but for the nation as a whole. By selling products that are in demand, for the purpose of earning money people are engaging in within their enterprises. This was the era of Women s Suffrage Movement and the Great War both of which had an impact on literature. The Women s Movement challenged long held ideals that men were superior in both mind and body, but more importantly, activists used technology to advance their cause. Five thousand women marched on Washington in order to gain media attention and support, and this coverage eventually led to the ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment (Belasco and Johnson 489). World War I saw the use of modern warfare including chemical weapons and airplanes, tanks, and the machine gun. This technology made war more horrible and more complex than previous wars. This was also the time of jazz music, the flapper, and full length talking movies (498 499). Moreover, mass market magazines and Book of the Month clubs along with the increase students pursuing higher education meant a higher demand for novels (500, 502). All of these advances created the age of modernism. The modernism movement embraced painting, music, literature, and challenged previous styles and traditions. From 9th through 12th grade, the standards are grouped into grade sets of 9th through 10th grade standards and 11th through 12th grade standards. Moreover, the CCSS stress the importance of using primary texts in the classroom to build literacy, along with many other things. While the standards set grade specific goals, they do not define how the standards should be taught or which materials should be used to support students. States and districts know that there will need to be a range of supports in place to guarantee that all students, including those with special needs and English language learners, can master the standards. It is up to the states to outline the full range of supports appropriate for these students. Since the release of the final standards in 2010, a two party mix of organizations representing parents, teachers, business leaders, and other key voices have strongly supported the Common Core State Standards. In regards to research, students should seek out reputable sources that can enhance their writing skills which in turn will help to write a better paper. • 46. Persuasive Essay On Religion You might as well cut off your entire personality under the roof of religious parents, or at least learn to pretend you are someone else in front of them. There is no having your own beliefs, being gay or being with someone of another race. You learn to find excuses on why you haven t found yourself a white, Christian man like I don t know mom, I guess God hasn t provided him for me yet, when really the only guyyou re looking for is in fact a woman. If you came out of the closet, of course, you can bet God will strike you down with a bolt of lightning and your family will shun you. You also have to be cautious of when you say you don t believe in God, because really you do, you ve just turned away from him. You get to go to church a little more because your family thinks that Satan has gotten a hold on you. What you need to do is wipe away any free will you think you have and get on your knees and pray to God for redemption. Get use to the white walls around you because when they find out you have a happy relationship with a black boy you will never see another room beside your own. I like to call this one House Arrest. That s where I m at now. No more phone, no more going outside, no more even walking to the bus stop without my mom by my side. I d like to state for the record that I do not enjoy lying to my parents. I wish that I could be open and honest with them, but their minds are set on two things; they must be white and they must be Christian. Things were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
