This document discusses how digital memory and the widespread availability of information online may undermine the human ability to forget. It argues that forgetting is important for both personal and professional advancement, as it allows people to learn from mistakes and move on. However, digitization has made forgetting the exception rather than the default, as information can now be cheaply stored and easily retrieved online in a way that persists indefinitely. This demise of forgetting could have negative consequences by reducing people's ability to cope with past experiences and redeem themselves.
