El clima de los páramos ecuatorianos es en general frío y húmedo.
Altitud esta varía desde 30 ºC hasta temperaturas bajo 0 ºC.
Las precipitaciones varían mucho con la elevación.
Quito es un ejemplo del clima tropical de montaña.
En la zona norte y central del país el clima permanece húmedo .
La compleja distribución climática sobre cada una de las cumbres depende de las diferentes combinaciones de altitud y composición y produce una gran variedad de microclimas locales .
Fauna del Páramo; 70 especies de mamíferos: como el puma, el jaguar, el tigrillo, el zorro, la danta, la guagua y el oso de anteojos.
15 especies de reptiles: concretamente 11 especies de lagartos y 4 de serpientes.
90 especies de anfibios: existen 3 especies de salamandras y 87 especies de ranas y sapos.
154 especies de aves: el cóndor, el mirlo, colibríes o patos son algunas de las más representativas.
En este ecosistema hay 131 especies de mariposas.
También cabe mencionar la fauna acuática, aunque esta no es muy diversa, la cual incluye a las preñadillas.
