2. WHAT DOES THE THEORIST STATE?
Chandler believes that genres are based on the idea that they must be
made up of set conventions. Meaning certain genres have to have
certain things in them to be recognised as that genre type.

3. EXAMPLE OF THE THEORY.
In Ariana Grande – Focus music video you
can see this is conforming with the “pop”
conventions as she is using different
types of bright and revealing costumes
throughout, when the camera is going to a
close up you can see she has a heavy
amount of make up on and this is also
conforming to the pop genre. You can also
see stars in her eyes which is showing
that she has got stars in her eyes which is
conforming to the pop genre.
Also in the video she has the setting which
conforming, with the different shapes
which she is inside and all the set is very
bright also conforming to the colours
which a pop genre has.

Within Nicki Minaj’s song super bass
she is showing that she is
conforming through the R&B genre
by having all the large speakers in
the background and also having the
muscly man she is also heavily
covered in make up whilst having a
bright pink wig on which is
conforming to chandlers theory.
Also with her being on the ice
sculpture of the motor bike which is
showing off the wealth which is
shown in a lot of R&B styled
videos.
