2. Our Story
As a flagship of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the Château
de Beaucastel has been writing the beautiful story of
Rhone Valley wines for almost 500 years. For over a
century, the Perrin family has been overseeing this
jewel that brings together all the diversity of grape
varieties and soils of the appellation, contributing to
the promotion of Châteauneuf's terroirs throughout the
world, and elevating them to the top of the hierarchy
of great wines.

4. The History of Beaucastel
The history of Beaucastel certainly dates back to the end of the 14th
century when Raymond des Baux, Prince of Orange, donated vineyards
located on the Coudoulet plot to the Council of Ville de Courthézon, with
officials from Courthézon required to give wines back to the prince
during important official visits. The property really took off from 1549
when Pierre de Beaucastel, from an old Protestant family in Courthézon,
purchased "a barn with a plot of land containing 52 saumées seated at
Coudoulet", where a master house was later built.

5. In the hands of the Perrin family
In 1909, after the vineyards had been destroyed by the phylloxera parasite,
Pierre Tramier acquired the property and set about restoring it. He later sold it
to his son-in-law, Pierre Perrin. The 20th century was the setting for a new
family saga at Beaucastel, in which the Perrin family raised the wines of the
estate to the pinnacle of international recognition, particularly through the
efforts of Jacques Perrin. In 1978, his sons Jean-Pierre and François took over
the reins. Today, alongside them, a fifth generation continues the adventure:
Marc, Pierre, Thomas, Cécile, Charles, Matthieu and César. Together, these
cousins, around their respective fathers, continue to grow and spread the
worldwide reputation of the Domaine de Beaucastel and to take care of its
magnificent terroirs.
6. The Terroir of Beaucastel
The terroir of Château de Beaucastel owes its character and richness to the
tumultuous history of the Rhône, dating back to ancient times when the river
transported rocks from the Alps to the plain. A geological construction
shaped over millions of years, the soil consists of a marine molasse bench
from the Miocene, covered with Alpine diluvium. The famous "galets
roulés"or rolled pebbles that are the hallmark of the great terroirs of
Châteauneuf-du-Pape are abundantly present here and, in this region of
France marked by low rainfall and large temperature differences between
day and night, act as regulators, storing heat during the day and releasing
it to the vines at night.

7. The vineyards of Château de Beaucastel spread over 130 hectares, with 100
in production and the other 30 under continuous renewal to maintain the
average age of the vineyard and the good health of the vines - with a
strategy of uprooting and replanting one to two hectares per year on soils
left fallow for several years. Of the 100 hectares in production, three-
quarters are in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation and are used to
produce the emblematic great wines of the Château de Beaucastel, both red
and white.

9. The Wines of Beaucastel
The philosophy of the Perrin family first and foremost aims to express the
personality of the Beaucastel terroir, its soil, its grape varieties, and its entire
ecosystem. On an environmental level, a commitment to organic farming
began in the 1950s, followed by biodynamics in the 1970s.

Hommage à
Jacques Perrin
The grand cuvée of Château de Beaucastel, named in tribute to the
father of Jean-Pierre and François Perrin, a visionary winemaker who
had the foresight to preserve very old Mourvèdre vines. These vines are
the DNA of this exceptional cuvée, sourced from a unique terroir of
“galets roulés” on clay-limestone and loamy soils.
10. Produced in both red and white, this Côtes-du-Rhône is the entry point for
enthusiasts into the Beaucastel style. A blend of Grenache, Syrah,
Mourvèdre, and a hint of Carignan (in red), as well as Bourboulenc,
Marsanne, Viognier, and Clairette (in white), it is a wine of pleasure and
enjoyment, suited for all occasions.

Also produced in red and white, this is the emblematic cuvée of the
Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation. The 13 grape varieties authorized
within the AOC, including white grapes, are used in the blend of the
red wine, resulting in a combination of intense fruit, spices, and
freshness, underscored by notes of scrubland.
