Mary is a poor girl who lives with her mother. Her mother sends her to the store to buy milk and bread, but Mary trips and drops her money down a storm drain. Mary cries because she has no money to buy food. A kind woman sees Mary crying and learns what happened. The woman gives Mary money to buy food, explaining that when she was a girl, another kind woman helped her in the same way. The woman tells Mary that one day, when she can help others, she should continue the chain of kindness.

2. Mary lives with her mum in
a small town. They are very
poor. Mary always helps her
mother about the house.
Mother asks Mary to go
shopping to buy some milk
and bread. Mary takes her
bag and goes shopping.

3. The weather is fine. The sun
is shining brightly. It is hot.
The girl is happy. She is
jumping and dancing.
Suddenly Mary stumbles
over the stone and falls
down. She drops her money
into the hatch on the road.

4. Mary can’t help crying. She
has no money to buy food.
She is sitting near the hatch
and crying bitterly.
Mary sees a beautiful blue
car. A young woman comes
out of the car.

5. “Hello! Why are you crying? Can
I help you?” asks the woman.
Mary tells her sad story. The
woman gives Mary some
money. The girl doesn’t want to
take it.
“Take it, please. When I was a
little girl I lost money on the way
to the drugstore. A kind woman
helped me then and said:
“When you grow up, finish
school and begin earning
money, you will pay your debt.
You will help any boy or girl with
the same problem as you have.”
Now I am paying my debt. And
you will help somebody in
future and pay you debt.”

6. The wheel of kindness
turns and never stops.
People help each other.
This chain will never be
broken.
