Maths Around us – Maths in the Shops   Furugrund Iceland November 2008
Heavy and light at the green-department in the shop.
The girls outside the shop
Inside we go!
..and where is the green-department?
Here it is...
How heavy or light are these fruits?
We think these apples are even
This cabbage is very heavy
My melon is heavier than your lime
Woo! This one is heavy..
Yes.. The cabbage is heavier than cucumber
The broccoli is bigger, but lighter than melon
I think these onions are not at same sort, but they are even
What do you think?
Yes the lemon is heavier than lime, but not as heavy as swede
We can’t decide which one is the heaviest, but...
..we know the grape is the lightest
..so we ask the sales woman to weigh it for us The melon was 985 grams.
Then she weighs the swede The swede was 1015 grams.
Then it’s the cabbage The cabbage was heaviest, 2170 grams.
Our small grape is so light that she can’t even weigh it
Then we have to pay with Fjola’s creditcard
.. and the sales woman gives us a receipt
We put our cabbage into a plastic bag
...and also our small grape
We put both into our backpack
We walk to our school
..and put the cabbage and the grape into our fridge. We will have it at lunch tomorrow
The end
