 Obvious problems, ignored geological research, completed 1959
 262 metres high, could hold 168,715,000 cubic meters of water
 Frequent landslides
 Even after filled with water

4. The disaster
 9 october 1963
 massive landslide of about 260,000,000 cubic metres (bigger than the
reservoir itself) of rocks, trees, soil, 3km long, filled the whole reservoir in 45
seconds
 Megatsunami high above 46 metres
 destroyed the villages of Langarone, Pirago, Rivalta, Villanova and Fae
 Killed more than 2000 people, no chance to escape
 The dam survived
