The Thylacine, or Tasmanian Tiger, was the largest known carnivore native to Australia, Tasmania, and New Guinea. It resembled a large dog with stiff tail and distinctive dark stripes across its back and rump. The Thylacine had a wide jaw that could open 120 degrees and 46 teeth. It lived in forests, wetlands, and grasslands, preying on kangaroos, birds, and small animals. The Thylacine population declined due to hunting and is now extinct, last seen in 1936.
